About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- K8342FFjeanneb0 contributionsDan Kariuki and Ian Njoroge are thieves and liars. Stay away from this scam! Our family of 6 booked an 11 day safari to Kenya for Dec 2022, costing $21,400 US dollars. 10 days before leaving our trip was cancelled as we were told they were bankrupt but would refund every "coin" if we were patient. Over 22 months we were refunded $1380 and have lost over $20,000. Dan Kariuki (CEO and owner) has stopped responding to emails, and also pumped and dumped another family as per a recent Google review. STAY AWAY from this company.Written 22 October 2024
- T8161ABmarkb0 contributionsDenhum Holidays scammed our family!Several years ago we booked an extensive Kenyan safari with Denhum Holidays. It was delayed with COVID-19 restrictions and elections. We paid a total of $21,400 (US) for our family. In December 2022, ten days before the trip we were informed that Denhum canceled our bookings because of financial problems. Dan Kariuki, CEO and owner of Denhum, promised that refunds would be imminent and various employees assured that we would not lose “a single coin”. To date we have been reimbursed $1,380 (US) over 22 months. Dan Kariuki is a liar and scammed us out of $20,000 dollars. He has not returned emails, and sadly perpetrated a fraud with another client (see Google reviews). Please book with a reputable travel company and avoid losing your money. Tripadvisor forced a date of our trip. It didn't happen in November 2023 because Denhum Holidays scammed us with no trip!Written 22 October 2024
- I6490RBmariep0 contributionsDenhum Holidays took thousands of $$ in advance payment for a safari & didn't show upWe booked a 9 day 8 night safari with Denhum, and per the terms of their contract paid 50% in advance at booking and the remaining 50% two months prior to the trip. The week prior to travel, Denhum Owner, Dan Karikui, informed us that a Denhum representative would meet us at the Nairobi airport upon arrival to provide details of our safari, which was due to commence 2.5 days later. No one from Denhum met us as at the airport so we attempted to call Denhum's phone number with no success; so at 1:00 am we found ourselves to fend for ourselves in a foreign country. For the next 2 days we tried every means possible to reach a Denhum representative: phone calls, text messages, WhatsApp calls and messages, e-mail, and FB messenger. Their phone numbers seemed to be turned off and our e-mail and text messages were not responded to. We waited in the hotel lobby from 7:00 AM to Noon on the morning of the scheduled pickup by the safari driver at our hotel, and nobody from Denhum showed up. This confirmed our fear that we had been defrauded by Denhum Holidays. We have been scammed out of several thousand dollars for what was to be the trip of a lifetime for my husband and I to celebrate 20 years of marriage. I hope this review helps others from becoming their next victim.Written 15 October 2024
- Quest092066809240 contributionsAmazing SafariWe did a two days in the Tsavo park, we got the chance so see 3 of the Big five lioness, elephant and buffalo. Denhum was really friendly and the tour was amazing, he know and gave us a lot of info about the animals. Defo will do it again soonWritten 6 April 2024
- 32mariyav0 contributionsLife changingThis company is truly brilliant! We booked with Denham Holidays, they were super helpful throughout the process and organised to be collected from hotels to visit Tsavo East for one night. You drive through the park to your hotel so we saw plenty of animals on this journey including elephant, giraffe, buffalo and Impala. We then went on an evening safari from 4pm where the light was stunning and we saw many animals again! The morning safari we left at 6am and we're very lucky to see a leopard cub and a lioness with three cubs too! Our guide was brilliant, his knowledge of the park and all the animals in it demonstrates why a guided safari makes all the difference instead of self drive!! Thank you for the highlight of my trip to Kenya 🙌Written 20 March 2024
- Cruiser226912007050 contributionsGreat wildlife, excellent lodges, warm people! We went on a 8 days 7 nights trip to Kenya, organized by 365 Tours, Chennai, India and Catalyst Travels, Nairobi. The trip was a wonderful experience, covering Kibo Safari Camp, Amboseli, Sopa Mara, Lake Nakuru and Sarova Mara, Masai Mara Reserve. The quality of the lodges were really good, particularly Sarova Mara. Sopa Mara was 29 kms from the entrance to the reserve and that made it a bit fatiguing to reach. Kibo Safari Camp was right at the entrance. Catalyst Tours was very responsive, literally available on call all the night and each detail was planned meticulously. We told the agency in advance and so we had no problem of vegetarian food at all. Every meal had a wide vegetarian choice! If you tell the chef in advance he would even make something specially for you. So we had Chaas in Kibo Safari Camp and some special Sim Sim Sweets in Sarova Mara, made based on our request. Please opt for a LandCruiser and not a Van, The terrain needs a LandCruiser because of high ground clearance and two spare tyres and two fuel tanks. Punctures are. not uncommon and you don't want to be stranded in the reserve with a puncture. Also ride comfort is much better with a LandCruiser. Please avoid buying stuff in the Curio Shops which are set up in the roadside, with attached restaurants etc. They charge very high prices. The Maasai flea market in Nairobi offers the same stuff at a fraction of the price and. you can bargain down to 50% of what they quote. We learn quite a few Swahili words, beyond Hakuna Matata , and the Kenyans like the effort you make to learn their language. Have a great time!Written 16 December 2023
- Alaskabagelgirl0 contributions5-day sightseeing safari Tsavo East, Tsavo West and Amboseli National ParksWe booked with Denhum Holidays to do a 5-day safari and we had an amazing time! We visited Tsavo East, Tsavo West and Amboseli National Parks. Our private driver, Salim, was the best. He made sure we saw all the beauty these parks have to offer and he provided us with a wealth of information on all the animals and history. The accommodations were excellent. We stayed at Ashnil Aruba Lodge (book a luxury tent if you can), Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge (the view from our room was absolutely beautiful) and Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge. The food and staff at all of these lodges were excellent. Everything exceeded my expectations. There are many companies you can book with and the reason I chose Denhum Holidays is because they were prompt in answering my questions and put together a detailed safari package that met our budget and timeline. Every step of the way, from initial booking to the conclusion of our trip, we felt taken care of and I am forever grateful for an incredible trip of a lifetime. Ps, book a sunrise hot air balloon ride while in Amboseli. It was really cool.Written 23 September 2023
- LilaLakhana0 contributionsMaasai MaraThis was best Safari, we literally saw Lions, Cheetahs, Hyenas and the Mara Crossing from the day we checked in until the day we checked out. Ben has been such an amazing driver and very professional and good at what he does. I would recommend him to anyone anyday. He knew what he was doing and we hardly struggled looking for animals. He made sure our drives were comfortable and successful. Thank you so much for everything and for sure in future we'll recommend friends and family to Denhum Holidays and Ben as the driver for the Safari. And definitely bring more friends and family to experience more Safaris. Thank you again.Written 29 August 2023
- HokieDJF20 contributionsKalama Safaris will make your trip to Africa perfect and make you want to go back soon. The most incredible trip ever. We saw the big 5 in the first days. The key to a great Safari is the leader/Guide. David Kalama, a professional photographer and our guide made this trip even better. His stories and knowledge are incredible. The passion he shows for the parks, the animals and the community makes you never want to leave. This is a very special place and if you are fortunate enough to go to Africa I would recommend David and his team to anyone. The lodging and meals he planned were amazing. That is another reason to book with a professional and have the trip catered to what your group likes.Written 14 December 2022
- johnkH4190RH0 contributionsUnforgettable Maasai Mara tripDenhum Holidays made my Maasai Mara tour one to remember forever! First, the guide was very knowledgeable about the national park, the animals and the routes. He answered all the questions that we asked satisfactorily. Secondly, the value for money. The 3 days package was a bargain. The itinerary was well planned and executed. We managed to see all the animals we were hoping to see making it a wonderful safari for us. The experience, care and professionalism of the guides and the company staff made us more than friends. Their services exceeded our expectations. Thank you Denhum for making our safari tour a memorable one. I recommend Denhum Holidays any timeWritten 21 February 2022
- bda_dave0 contributionsGreat option for Kenya SafariFrom beginning to end, Dan at Denhum Holidays was a very integral part of the process in ensuring that my questions were answered. Having access to him via whatsapp was key. He gave assurances that everything would go accordingly, and even when it didn’t seem or feel like things would work out, they did. Dan understood that I was planning a surprise and did everything possible to help me execute. Musa (our driver/guide) was spot on. Right from picking us up at the airport he was attentive and a wealth of knowledge throughout. He was engaging, but also recognized the times that we were tired and gave us time to rest. It seemed like he knew everyone wherever we went and was always able to point us in the right direction. He was truly a great resource to have on hand. One of my favourite interactions on our trip was when he called ahead to set up a traditional Kenyan meal that we ate together, sans cutlery in true Kenyan fashion. Musa was the man. I had high expectations for planning a trip that was so far from home, and after considering other safari companies I’m ultimately very glad that I decided to go with Denhum. I would recommend that anyone interested in doing a safari to get in touch with this team and allow them to help you plan it all out. The value was unparalleled; I never once felt like we were getting a budget version of a safari. Thanks again to Dan/Musa and the rest of the Denhum team.Written 2 November 2021

- Josephine B0 contributionsCultural tour KeynaThis holiday with Denhum was organised via Responsible travel UK. We spent a week journeying from Nairobi (2 nights) to Samburu National Park (2 nights) Lake Navaisha (I night) Masai Mara National Park (2 nights) and Lake Nakuru (I night) before returning to Nairobi. It was a private tour, just two of us. We had understand from Denhum that journeys between locations were 4 hours max but this was not as descibed, most were 5 to 7 hours so we spend a long time travelling and sometimes it was rushed at the destinations, especially those where we spend 1night only and safari time had to be cut down. The route was not circular so we doubled back on ourselves after Masai Mara so appeared to waste a lot of time by not taking the most direct route. Roads are very rough often for 20 or 30 miles non stop so be prepared to be shaken about and bumped around big time! Arrangements prior to Safari were excellent and we did follow advertised route, but there was no "cultural " input at all as such- we did not learn anything much about the people/tribes etc as had been advertised. There was one extra trip to meet Masai people but this was 60 dollars each so we passed on that. Our guide was friendly and nice but more of a (very fast) driver than a guide, and did not impart much information about our journey, landmarks etc or anything to do with Kenya - so do a take a good guidebook and read up for yourself. Also there was no advantage in terms of being able to make "choices" as a private tour, we appeared to follow a set routine and were not ever given any options to choose from. We were disappointed not to see anything of the migration as Denhum had led us to believe we would be able to see something at that time of year but it was not to be. Lodges were of good standard, comfortable and pleasant. We saw quite a lot of animals, big five and others including leopard cheetahs, wild dogs and baby rhino. , maybe little disappointed that Masai was not more populated and full of animals as guide book seemed to indicate is should be! This is our third safari but first in Keyna. It is a lovely country and we would have liked more time to find out more and explore - maybe cut down the enormously long route and spend more quality time in fewer places and have more informative guide.. Do make sure you are clear about how long it will take to get from place to place as this was quite a shock for us as we had it in writing that max journey was 4 hours, and that was not the case!Written 23 October 2019
- lauramtorino0 contributionsAlmost perfectI did a Kenya/uganda tour of 11 days, including Nakuru lake, Masai Mara in Kenya and Murchison Falls and Gorilla tracking in Uganda. The program wasn't perfect because some transfer were too long and not feasible. But the driver in Kenya, Moussa, was bright, he told me it was impossible to see the hot springs that were in the program but we could add Naivasha lake that was on the way and it was really lovely (boat tour with many birds, hippos and elephants); and the office chief in Uganda (who was so kind as to accompany me on a walking tour in Kampala showing me all the sights) cancelled one night in Murchison Falls and booked a hotel on the way to Bwindi to divide the transfer. Even in that way the two transfer lasted 12 hours!... Apart from those organizational faults (that I suggest the company to improve) the travel was really great. The two drivers, Moussa and Ivan, were very good and helpful. I could see a lot of animals and the gorilla tracking was a success. I added the optional fly on the hot-air balloon, expensive but worth every penny, and the visit to the rhino sanctuary that I strongly suggest- It's on the way to Murchison Falls and we walk with an armed ranger to come close and personal to rhinos. The lodges were in general good, some of them exceptional. I would strongly Reccomend this company.Written 23 October 2019
- ptrimpey0 contributions3-4 Day Masi Mara SafariThe Safari was lots of fun and the lodges were clean and accommodating. The food was excellent. Our guide Musa could have told us more about the animals, but was more focused in just getting us to sites to see them. We did get to see the big 5.Written 18 September 2019
