You will see exotic African fruits and vegetables, typical African fabrics, traditional stoves and the local butchers. You will experience how women peal the cassava leaves, and you will have the opportunity to buy food products you might want to taste. Your hosts will take you to the hair saloon in order to show you the art of braiding and to offer you the experience of receiving one or two braids yourself. You will visit a a local tailor several of whom are from West Africa. You will learn more about tailoring and you will enjoy an introduction to fabrics, styles and the art of tailoring. If you are interested, you can even order your own shirt or dress. Nyamirambo being not-only multi-cultural but also multi-religious, you will learn more about Muslim's customs and traditions while walking through the Muslim quarter and taking a closer look at the colorful mosques. The highlight of your excursion is going to be the visit to the small house of local family for lunch. You will join the family around the outside cooking area and, while helping to stir some cassava mush, you will enter into discussions about their joys, their problems and the important events taking place in the area. Once the food is ready, you will have the chance to taste a variety of traditional dishes arranged as a buffet, including cassava, matoke, ugali, different vegetables and delicious sauces that are rather unique to the region.
Lunch is the perfect time for cross-cultural experiences and you will have the chance to discover more about your hosts and their lives. At the same time, the women are certainly eager to also learn more about you and your background as well!
