- 785jankak0 contributionsVisit the mosque in CasablancaA building that you can check from outside. It's not bad or ugly, but I would recommend to visit the mosque in Casablanca more. Next to the mosque, there is a small cemetery that is styled into a monument, and also 2 parks. Those parks are nice for walking around. Prepare to be chased around by various sellers.Written 12 January 2025
- KatielouAustralia0 contributionsMagnifent MosqueThis mosque was built in 1162 and is a masterpiece of Islamic architecture. The spacious courtyard can accommodate up to 20,000 worshippers. Its name means Mosque of the Booksellers because of the numerous book stands that surrounded the Mosque when it was first built. The highlight is the magnificent minaret that is nearly 70m high. Non-Muslims cannot enter the mosque.Written 21 December 2024
- Aisha A0 contributionsBeautiful architect, culture and very safeAbsolutely stunning architecture, beautiful call to prayer 5 times a day, situated opposite the jamaa el fnaa Market where theres lots of restaurants overlooking the mosque. There's also a lovely seating area and garden around the koutoubia mosque where you can relax and enjoy the views. We stayed quiet close to this area so we went past daily and witnessed people praying outside the mosque too. Definitely worth a visit if you live architecture like me!Written 24 November 2024
- DanielK5850 contributionsInfo about MarrakechI wasn't in the mosque but let me write few important things about Marrakech here. When we land we and other passengers wait more than 3h for passport control.they ask you stupid things like where you work and in which hotel you will stay.Thats why it takes so long time .And you have to come individual to passport check and not with your family.Lots of poverty on the street .Peopke selling tissue wipes etc..Lots of taxis ( I think more taxis than flats in the city) some drivers sleeping in their taxis because I guess they don't have accomodation.Single bus ticket cost 40 morrocan dhirmas(about 30 pence).buses are crowded often.Very dirty city.Plastic everywhere .Lack of sustainability and safety.Even when you have green zebra crossing lights it's danger to cross the streets. I can't imagine this city doing big events like FIFA world cup.Written 11 November 2024
- Wombling_Free_75480 contributionsIconic towerWorth a stroll round the outside. There are some good spots for a photo. The gardens are not worth bothering with, little shade and not very attractive.Written 9 November 2024
- Zackmouhy0 contributionsLovely mosqueThis mosque is visible from the surrounding areas including Jamaa Al Fna. It’s a great sport for taking pictures, especially at nightWritten 23 August 2024
- stevesanjackgwyneth0 contributionsSaddened, shocked and disappointed.I am very disappointed to be turned away. Both my wife and I had our heads covered, my wife's shoulders and legs were covered, but we were categorically told that non-muslims are not allowed. I must say that in the current world climate, I was saddened and shocked to have been told this. If we are to all live as one, we need to be open with each other. Even the Muslim family in front of us said it was wrong. How did they know we were not Muslims?Written 10 August 2024
- NoahSmithh0 contributionsA Symbol of Marrakech's Spiritual HeritageThe Koutoubia Mosque stands as a majestic beacon in the heart of Marrakech, commanding attention with its soaring minaret and exquisite Moorish architecture. As you approach, the intricate details of the mosque's facade, adorned with geometric patterns and ornate archways, captivate the eye. The serene courtyard offers a peaceful retreat from the city's hustle and bustle, surrounded by palm trees and lush gardens. Inside, the grand prayer hall impresses with its spaciousness and the soft glow of intricate stained glass windows filtering the sunlight. Whether admiring the mosque's exterior from afar or exploring its tranquil interior, the Koutoubia Mosque is not just a religious landmark but a testament to Marrakech's rich cultural and spiritual heritage, making it a must-visit for travelers seeking to immerse themselves in the city's history.Written 10 July 2024
- FTMDave0 contributionsHuge minaretThe minaret is 77 metres high and as well as being part of an attractive building serves as a geographical landmark as you make your way around the centre of the city!Written 27 June 2024
- Raintree_Thailand0 contributionsIconic mosque of Marrakesh! This is the largest and most important mosque in Marrakesh. Built in the 12th century. The minaret is 77 meters tall and likely providing the inspiration for similar ones in built in Seville and Rabat about the same time. Visitors can get some great photos of the exterior, but unfortunately non-Muslims are not allowed inside.Written 19 June 2024
- Coryy200 contributionsThe most prominent structure in MarakeshIt's very hard not to see this structure as soon as you drive into the Medina in marrakech. This mosque is on the main square downtown Marrakesh. During prayers only Muslims are allowed to enter, so I did not enter. However, I admired from the outside because the surrounding it is lots of activities to do and see. There are restaurants, souks Medina and on the other side a very lively area where locals and tourist hang out. There is also a very nice garden and park nearby. So besides visiting the mosque and taking pictures there's a there's lots of other activities that one can do there. Its a definite must visit.Written 18 June 2024
- Petter-Andre0 contributionsMore than worth a visit. The Koutoubia Mosque is the most iconic building in Marrakech. All other buildings must remain lower (77 meters). The history is very interesting and the religious importance is great. More than worth a visit. Be aware of the fact that the mosque cannot be visited by non-Muslims.Written 10 May 2024
- Leonhkny0 contributionsNot open to touristsThis large mosque is a major landmark of Marrakesh. While the tall, encompassing minaret is the most recognizable structure in the city, the mosque itself is not open to tourists. Visitors will have little understanding of the place as information is very limited.Written 5 May 2024
- sezind20140 contributionsLandmark of MedinaMonumental Mosque. Landmark of the Medina of Marrkesh. Only Muslims can visit inside of the Mosque during prayer time.Written 2 May 2024
- solmK2569HW0 contributionsExtraordinary!!You can't come to Marrakech without visiting this place. The Koutoubia Mosque is the monument of Marrakech not to be missed, it is the tallest building in the city at 77m. This 12th century mosque has a magnificent minaret. The mosque is located to the south of the medina, near Jemaa El Fna square.Written 25 April 2024
