- jamesaA9687ZI0 contributionsGreat Way to See Honolulu & the Sunset! We loved this cruise! The food was decent — but the highlights were the spectacular views of Honolulu, the sunset & Diamond Head, the show, & the friendly staff! “Cousin Phillip” was so personable and friendly! He took great care of us! And the entertainment was a perfect accompaniment to the already great cruise!Written 4 January 2025
- Jepasion0 contributionsYou’ll have a better time watching the fireworks pulled over on the freewayThis review is for the New Year Fireworks Cruise. My wife and I purchased the 3rd deck steak and lobster cruise. We even paid extra for a private table to make sure we had a view for the fireworks show at midnight. Originally they had us seated in the back corner with no view of the stage. My guess is because we paid the discounted kamaaina price which really shouldn’t matter imo. We asked to move which worked out for us because someone left a GoPro on a tripod recording next to our heads. Deck was crammed with tables which were no bigger than a night stand. SLOW service. Again, probably because of the cramming. Right before midnight, people gathered right behind us obstructing our view of the fireworks. So no, we can’t recommend the extra cost of the private night stand, I mean “table”. One of the other passengers, while trying to get an unrecognizable zoomed out video of Waikiki, knocked over and shattered a glass of champagne all over our table and on my pants then ran off as though this was normal where they’re from. The staff did clean up the shards of glass but didn’t do anything about the champagne soaked table cloth. They offered to give us a complimentary bottle of champagne and we said sure. They ended up settling for an opened bottle that another table ended up not drinking. Great start to 2025!Written 1 January 2025
- ChrisGlasgow290 contributionsNew Year 2025What a fun night we had! New Year's Eve cruise, with transportation, dinner, a show and fireworks off the coast of Honolulu. We felt spoilt by the staff. Admittedly my lobster was overcooked but it didn't matter. The chefs would of been under pressure with so many patrons to cater for. When the fireworks began, we all tried to find a viewing space. There was additional space upstairs, if you find you're unable to see on your allocated deck. Everyone was smiling and happy. We were entertained and had an opportunity to meet the performers. Thanks to everyone at STAR OF HONOLULU for a memorable evening to welcome in the New Year ✨️Written 1 January 2025
- Grace Annette C0 contributionsAmazing sunset views and fun dinner showWe went to that event twice, when our kid was a toddler and then when she become a teenager. We liked it a lot both times. The services, the food and beverages as well as dinner dance show were all good. It was fun to dance with a lot of people. The sunset views were fantastic.Written 30 December 2024

- rebeccawD3597CO0 contributionsDO NOT do this cruise. Seriously...I never write bad reviews but... *sigh*... this dinner cruise was honestly one of the worst experiences I've ever had. I really can't fathom how this is even considered a business and borders on suspicious activity. I want to be very clear that none of this is directed to any one individual or worker. So many elements were just bad. The whole experience felt very cheap, outdated, and, frankly, gross. To begin, the infrastructure and furniture looked to have been built in the 70s, with zero updates (including the carpet and silverware). The room, immediately upon arrival, had a strong and apparent smell of body odor (regardless of the giant windows being open). Second, the food was borderline inedible. I am genuinely curious as to when the last time the health inspector was there and if this is actually up to code (and if so... what code?). It's just so far off of any service I have ever had in my life. The "Sweet Butter Breadsticks" served as an appetizer are literally hot dog buns from any grocery store. The "Imported & Domestic Cheeses", crackers, and fruit was self serve which felt unsanitary. Not to mention, they were, also, straight from the grocery store. The lobster smelled and looked to be straight out of PetSmart (which then added a fish food smell to the already potent scent of BO). The tenderloin was blue and, at that point, we didn't even try dessert. I normally don't care about the alcohol content of my drink but I know many of you do so, there was absolutely no alcohol in either of my two drinks. Lastly, I am going to generalize but, the staff and crew of the whole boat was hard to buy into. I surmise they are very young, inexperienced, and underpaid. I can't articulate exactly what was off but, it just felt sketchy. I don't know who they're paying to write these reviews but, the stark contrast of our expectations vs. this reality was jarring.Written 19 December 2024

- rhonettac0 contributionsLeft wanting more, expected moreThe views were so wonderful and the staff was very welcoming and pleasant. However, would have enjoyed more if dancers were Hawaiian and it was more authentic. We saw a luau the night before so it made these performances seem lackluster. Sorry. I loved the Luau! I was not too fond of the food either. Steak was cooked good and food presentation nice but sauces made it hard to enjoy. This was my least favorite attraction of the many we had in Hawaii.Written 17 December 2024

Good comfortable cruise & beautiful sunset. Staff was very good & attentive. I do think it’s a little over priced for the food/drink quality, the buffet style which is the lowest option starts at $100PP however I would recommend this trip & the dessert was lovely.

This was an amazing dinner and sunset cruise. I highly recommend it. We felt welcomed from the minute we walked up to the ship. The buffet was delicious, all the staff and the performance show were excellent. Captain Stephen Young was so very kind and made his way around greeting all the guests and made you feel so welcomed. I highly recommend this cruise. Thank you to all the staff in front and behind the scenes to ensure our dinner cruise was the best.

During our recent visit back to Hawaii, we decided to indulge in the best sunset buffet and show cruise on Oahu, and it felt like coming home in the most spectacular way. The hospitality was unparalleled, with the staff warmly welcoming us aboard and making us feel like ohana. Ricky, Ryan, and the rest of the team were great. Very genuine experience overall.
The buffet was a feast for the senses, offering a wonderful mix of local favorites and international dishes, all beautifully prepared and bursting with flavor. As we sailed along the coast, the views were simply breathtaking. Watching the sun set over the Pacific, casting vibrant hues across the sky and ocean, brought back fond memories of our time living on the islands.
The live show was a captivating celebration of Hawaiian culture, with talented performers who reminded us of the rich traditions and spirit of aloha we cherish so much. This cruise was a perfect blend of nostalgia and new experiences, making our return to Hawaii truly special. It's an absolute must for anyone visiting Oahu, offering a memorable evening of great food, stunning scenery, and heartfelt hospitality.

They overbooked the cruise, so they tried to move us downstairs to a small claustrophobic room. They walked us all the way down there with my mom in a wheelchair, but it the room had a smell, plus she would not see the fireworks from there. So I said no, we want our original seating area. They moved us back up, but it was really full by then, so they gave us seats that other people were complaining about because the view was obstructed by a wall (our table neighbors confirmed that was indeed what happened). They dragged my mom around that ship a lot to end up with a crappy table anyway. Food was just average, dessert was good. Entertainment was just ok, except the dancers were good. It was nice they had wheelchairs and staff to push them, and our server was lovely. So if you are paying for buffet dining, you should be on deck 2, don't let them move you to deck 1, that means they overbooked and are taking advantage of you.

Decided to take an impromptu sunset dinner cruise to celebrate my husband's birthday. The cruise was awesome they entertained us the whole time with music, shows & optional crowd participation. Had great sunset views and food our servers Ricky & Addison were awesome and made sure we wanted for nothing during our celebration. Glad we decided to do it.

I had high expectations for this sunset dinner cruise but I guess they were too high. I was somewhat disappointed. I feel like it’s definitely overpriced for the quality of food & entertainment you get. The buffet line had options for sure but unfortunately they weren’t that great. The noodles & chicken were good but not anything amazing especially for the price we paid. The roast beef was under cooked & lacking in flavor. The service was good. Our waiter was so kind. The entertainment was average. What’s interesting is that a couple people from my party happened to look at another dining room & oh what a difference! The other dining room had white tablecloths & even the entertainment looked better….I guess you get what you pay for. Again, I personally think they are overpriced. It was nice being out on the water for a bit. Overall, being on the water was nice, food & entertainment was ok, staff was great but I probably wouldn’t do this cruise again.

It is an amazing adventure, awesome food and staff. I really enjoyed it and had lots of fun. The customer service was amazing and I was able to get the things i needed from all the workers. The view of the fireworks was very beautiful and I got to experience a boat cruise for the first time. The manager (Ricky) and the waiter (niveah) were amazing with their conversations, always making jokes and making us laugh.

The foods was ok but too few of choices for a buffet. Didn’t see much of the entertainment as the way the seating was set up is a bit odd and shouldn’t be at sunset time when people want to take sunset picture. For the price we pay was ok (got a discount from a friend LJ) one time experience… Pros tho every staffs are so welcoming even the captain walked around greeted everybody.

Due to recent events have you cancelled all up and coming cruises. I have reserved but not paid will I still be charged?
Written 28 March 2020
After you book, the people putting the cruise on will tell you where to meet your bus. To get to our bus was over a 20 minute walk, and part of that walk was through a less than desirable neighborhood.

"Church" clothes. Some were very casually dressed. Didn't see what people were wearing on the top 2 levels of the ship where we were told the buffet and the show were "really spectacular." There were two levels of service on the first level, we(unknowingly) had the lowest level of service.

I'd like to know if this is special enough for our 40th Wedding Anniversary?
Written 23 April 2019
Not in my opinion. This would hardly qualify as special enough for even a regular annual anniversary. Perhaps if you booked the upper levels of the ship, but I didn't know about those level and I didn't see what was offered. Our lowest level came to $250 for two people. We were disappointed.
