About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- O1786CQashleyr0 contributionsHana and Beyond is the right pick! Our road to Hana tour was so much fun, Brice was knowledgeable and stopped at all the hidden gems. He had great stories, was on time, and the lunch provided was filling. I shopped a lot of companies for our Road to Hana tour and was completely satisfied with our day!Written 12 February 2025
- marciatZ9337IX0 contributionsExcellent ServiceExcellent Service! We used Hana and Beyond for our shuttle service to the airport for a day trip to Oahu. Picked us up right on time and got us to the airport. We ending up catching an earlier flight back to Maui and they were so easy to work with to get us picked up early. Our driver was great@Written 3 February 2025
- timbP2882JG0 contributionsFun times with Hana and BeyondGreat adventure. Dave C was a knowledgeable host and a good driver. Would highly recommend. Caution if you get carsick as it’s a long winding road.Written 25 January 2025
- cherir2890 contributionsGreat trip!So much to see- can’t miss this tour! I would never have driven myself up to Hana- our guide Lee was fabulous, she gave us so much local information. The roads are curvy, but the scenery is beautiful.Written 25 August 2024
- 305varshinir0 contributionsRoad to hana with local boyCovered most of the main places. Can do lot better on the lunch provided. But overall it was a good experience and tour guide is a local boy provided plethora of information about Hawaii and it’s origin.Written 30 June 2024
- Wonderland330 contributionsFunFun, beautiful drive and area. 617(?) curves and 55 bridges on the drive makes it exciting. We saw cows, waterfalls and wonderful scenery.Written 15 May 2024
- Daniel N0 contributionsAn excellent way to spend the day!The driver of our tour vehicle was very informative. He was very helpful with any questions we had. Safe and reliable driver! Eli was the best! We made several stops along the way and he made sure our group was told about the local history.Written 8 February 2024
- JennieO6960 contributionsLet a skilled driver take you to Hana and you will be a happy passenger!Excellent tour! We got to see a beautiful part of the island getting an insiders scoop. Courtney was so fun and friendly. We really saw a whole lot in a day.Written 19 January 2024
- Venice201710 contributionsGreat tour! Our guide Frido(?) did everything he could to make sure we enjoyed our tour! Wear your swimsuit so that you are ready to swim in the waterfall and the beach. Then change out of it at Black Sand Beach for the ride home. Warning - it's difficult to get into the waterfall, the rocks are slippery. Keeping your feet in the water is probably the best. Shoes- we wore Tevas and they worked well. Black Sand Beach is rocky. We saw a seal beached there for his nap! Be sure to ask to stop at the Chocolate Plantation Store -GREAT chocolate and very nice family run business!Written 7 August 2023
- W8134QRscotth0 contributionsNot what we expectedThe tour guide was very friendly and drove safely along the road. We were disappointed that we only drove by many waterfalls. We only stopped at one waterfall which was busy with people. We didn’t even stop at the 7 sacred pools. The tour stopped at a few fruit stands so if you want fruit or banana bread, or just simply go for a 10 hour drive, this is a great choice. The back side of Haleakala has beautiful ocean views! I would not do this tour again because there was no exploration.Written 5 May 2023
- Exploration7639790 contributionsScary, Exciting and beautiful!I have motion sickness, but I was saved when we stopped for banana bread. They sold a ginger drink that allowed me to enjoy the whole trip! Our driver was amazing, very funny, very authentically concerned about the future of this beautiful place. Some pretty scary portions of the road, but he was completely calm and confident. What an experience.Written 26 April 2023
- anthonysX8984TE0 contributionsGreat and lots of fun.Kaili was a great tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and made the tour very fun. Nancy the driver that picked me up from the resort was also knowledgeable and polite. Overall this was a very pleasant tour and I would definitely recommend others to take it with Kaili.Written 26 March 2023
- badick19780 contributionsA must do adventure in MauiThe tour provides a delightful trip to part of the island that almost takes you back in time. Provides a feeling a sacred land and sights that are priceless. Our guide Kaili was fabulous. He was knowledgeable, extremely kind, and a master of the hairpin turns and roads in which he grew up. Would highly recommend.Written 20 March 2023
- Jazmyn28080 contributionsWaste of $$I did the hana and beyond tour a few years ago and it was horrible. If you want to spend hours on end in a van with about 5-10 mins to be let outside on certain stops then this is the tour for you. I was expecting to get to experience nature but being locked in a van all day with only mins to get some fresh air and pee was just NOT worth a single dime. Total tourist trap. If you want to experience Hana I highly suggest doing this tour yourself. It is not worth the $$ at all! Trust me. You will be much better off in your own car where you can roll down the windows & enjoy! Just be careful of the roads & if you have someone who is local that can take the trip and guide you even better. But if you’re young & love nature and being outdoors you won’t enjoy this trip. Its for people who enjoy being in a hot van all day.Written 19 March 2023
- Karen H0 contributionsSo very enjoyable! Was my favorite thing on the the island so far!!!Our driver, Kairi, was fantastic! He told us ahead of time when something was coming up that we would probably like to get a photo op, and what side of the vehicle it would be on. He was a fantastic story teller and gave us history of things we were going by. Very interesting. Liked how he had an ice breaker so everyone could learn something about the other passengers, such as we found out there were 4 of us from Minnesota. I found someone from the same profession as I. She was at the beginning of her career and I am retired from it.Written 11 March 2023

The road to Hana was absolutely gorgeous! Our tour guide, Lei, was a sweetheart who made the trip so much fun! She shared historical information, told jokes, kept us entertain the whole time, and we listened to awesome island music! We stopped at a banana bread shop and enjoyed fresh bananas from her aunt's garden - so delicious!
Lei also provided helpful tips for avoiding motion sickness on the winding roads, which I found useful, especially since I live in Colorado and am familiar with similar curves.
Hana was stunning, with rainforest, beautiful waterfalls, black sand beaches, turtles, rainbow trees, and even the mountain from the opening scene of Jurassic park. It was truly a trip of a lifetime, and I'm so glad Lei was our guide! She is spunky, fun, down to earth, and has a fantastic Island vibe!
If you can handle the mountain curves, I would definitely recommend booking a tour to Hana and ask for Lei as your tour guide! You will not be disappointed!

We had a fantastic experience on the Road to Hāna tour with “Hāna and Beyond.” Our guide, Lei, was absolutely wonderful. She brought the journey to life by sharing fascinating stories and personal insights about Hāna from her childhood, making the day truly memorable. It’s a long day, so be prepared for that, but it’s well worth it. Highly recommend this tour!

This tour was so worth going on. I had heard from family to go, but I have a fear of heights so wasn't real thrilled. But am so glad we went! Our driver was amazing, felt totally comfortable during the winding, twisty turns and she was so fun! She was knowledgeable about the area having grown up there, knew history, current events and just a really nice happy person. It rained on the way up, so we had the full rain forest experience and stopped with the sun coming out for our beach stop.
A perfect fun day!

I would say don’t waste your money. The driver was too busy chatting to the person in front when he could be bothered to speak and neglected the rest of the bus of paying customers despite several of us shouting out that we couldn’t hear him. We didn’t learn anything on this tour apart from where Oprah has a property. In fact at times on the few occasions that he did speak, he came across a bit disrespectful of the Hawaiian culture. Not what I would expect when being taken on a cultural tour. Instead of leading the tour at times he would ask what we wanted to do first, isn’t that your job as the expert guide to set a dynamic itinerary? Rainforest tour? Debatable. We drove into a rainforest car park to look at the ocean views and a quick comfort break of 10 minutes. We stopped at a lay-by to look at some rainbow eucalyptus for 10 minutes whilst watching out for passing cars. We stopped for 10 minutes at a waterfall whilst raining for another 10 minute break. We pulled over at a shack selling refreshments approximately 1.5 hours into the journey- not sure if this was the breakfast stop? We were not briefed when we had to stop due to roadworks for an extended period and left to sit in silence with the radio for company. The provided food was poor. We were picked up at 06:30 hours asked if we wanted to stop at a coffee shop but because one person saying no we carried on until midday for lunch and were provided with unhealthy snacks to sustain us along the way. Apparently, all vegetarians like to eat is a wrap full of lettuce and a few pieces of avocado. This was not a sustainable meal. In addition to this the driver thought he was a formula 1 driver at times, doesn’t understand that speed humps are there for a purpose and not to jar the passengers backs and clearly doesn’t know the size of the vehicle upon reversing into a sign post. It actually ruined our trip to Maui. Should have stayed on the lanai whale watching instead.

It's disappointing to hear about your experience on the tour. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the driver's lack of attention to all passengers and any perceived disrespect towards Hawaiian culture. We aim to provide enriching experiences that showcase the beauty and culture of Maui, and it's regrettable that this was not met during your tour. Your feedback regarding the itinerary and food options is duly noted, and we will use it to improve our services in the future. We appreciate your honest review and will take steps to ensure that similar issues are addressed to prevent future occurrences.

My family and I participated in this tour in 2012 and it was one of my most amazing experiences of my life. When returning to Maui on this trip, we decided to go on this adventure a second time (a first for my husband). We booked this through the Hyatt concierge. Unfortunately, the tour experience has significant room for improvement. Summary of pros and cons:
Pros:
1. Glen our tour guide, was absolutely wonderful! I cannot say enough about what a kind, thoughtful and engaging guide he was. He was also a wonderful driver and no one in our van got car sick.
2. The other guests (we were 12 in total) were all very friendly, kind and fun to engage with.
3. We each received a card with the map and itinerary of the day (including stops) at the beginning of the trip, which was helpful.
Cons:
1. The car: they told me when booking that we may get a Mercedes van but instead got a cramped van that was quite difficult to get 12 people in and out of. Everyone had to crawl in and out on top of each other at every single stop. The prior van (in 2012) was quite different (almost like a bus) and allowed for easy boarding and unboarding of passengers.
2. False advertising of the trip/route itself: they should have advertised or updated the passengers when this trip is called "full circle rainforest" that it is actually only to Hana and back. They said flooding was causing part of the route to not be accessible, which happens, but should have let people know that when booking. Part of the magic of this trip is seeing the stunning upcountry and the beautiful lavender farm, which did not occur on this trip. We basically paid $1,104. 56 for 4 people to get a half tour.
3. Breakfast stop: we had 15 minutes to get coffee from a Starbucks in Safeway. The line was at least 10 people deep when we arrived, with one worker who was in no hurry. She said this happens every morning when all the tours come through. Some thought into a better stop or process would have been appreciated and was a bad way to start the tour.
4. Bathroom stops: Zero of the bathroom stops had any soap, any paper towels and some of the advertised bathroom stops were just porta potties. All of them stank.
5. Lunch stop: stopping at a location with one small picnic table (already occupied by others) and another stinky and poorly supplied bathroom quite far away was not a good idea for a lunch stop. In our prior trip, we stopped at a great location with enough tables for everyone. Also, paying over $1000 for this excursion and getting sandwiches from Safeway as your lunch could have been improved upon.
This could have been one of the most amazing adventures of a lifetime and with some more thought and care, could again be - but this was a major disappointment and I will definitely not be recommending this to anyone.

It's one of those things, where you look at booking it online and it seems kind of expensive for something many people think they can do themselves.... everybody drives, right? Uhhh, no! First of all, the road is challenging for hours! Don't get me wrong, I have a commercial drivers license and can have driven buses for many years. Plus, the driver (or at least our driver) is a local that's extremely knowledgeable which is worth the price by itself! On top of that, taking the tour allows you to look instead of driving AND "trying" to look!

The tour took us to beautiful places, the waterfall, black sand beach, turtle beach and Road to Hana itself were stunning. However, the tour guide provided minimal commentary and only at the beginning of the tour. He did not use a microphone so I could barely hear anything from the back of the van. After the waterfall (2nd stop) he stopped providing commentary and I did not know anything about where we were driving through or the stops we were making. This was not worth the $220 USD (nearly $300 Canadian) paid, as I would expect the guide to be educated and informative. It was a lot of money to spend for basically someone to drive you around. Also, lunch was a simple sandwich with chips.. nothing special.

We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed the breathtaking beauty of the places visited on the tour. However, we apologize for any disappointment caused by the minimal commentary provided by the tour guide. Your feedback regarding the need for more informative commentary throughout the tour is duly noted, as well as the issue with the sound quality in the van. We understand the importance of having a knowledgeable and engaging guide to enhance the overall experience. Regarding the lunch provided, we'll certainly take your feedback into consideration as we aim to continually improve the quality of our offerings. We appreciate your honest review and will work to address the areas for improvement.

Our tour operator “Local Boy” Alias Damien was awesome. He spent the entire day providing the history of Maui as he drove us all around the island. We started the day with a pickup at our facility in Lahaina. First stop was at a Starbucks for coffee. After that we started on the road to Hana. For the next 10 1/2 hours we were given personalized information about Maui from our tour operator who was born and raised right in Maui. He was able to provide 1st hand inside information and history about so many things we missed on a previous trip to Maui. He made this trip fantastic. If you want local information about everything on Maui, this is the person you need book a tour with.
