- 516StephenN0 contributionsZiplining in KauaiA progressive experience of four different ziplines culminating in a 4k foot zipline as a finale. Relaxed but very professionally run with a strong emphasis on safety, both tour guides knew a lot about the origins and history of the area. An exhilarating experience in the shadow of a sacred Kauai mountain. Dress casually and one is able to use one's cell phone camera while ziplining. We went off season which speeded the process of cycling through every person on each zipline by a considerable margin.Written 15 December 2024

- U5667FHkarent0 contributionsAwesome!!This zip line was awesome! Our guides, Layla, Tanner and Tim were super cool, knowledgeable, safe, and a lot of fun. It was our first time zip lining and we had a blast! The mosquitoes were bad at the check-in location, but once we sprayed ourselves with bugs spray, we were fine the rest of the trip. I would recommend bringing a towel with you from the beginning if you think you are going to swim in the natural pool. On a hot day, it was very refreshing. Would definitely recommend and do this again.Written 11 October 2024

- StevenH6810 contributionsThe best Zip line experience on Kauai hands down!We had a great experience all around. From ease of using their website to book our adventure, to arriving on their property and checking in and ultimately the time with our amazing guides for our visit, Patti and Ryker. I’m a bit of a customer service snob, and I admit it openly. The truth is, the experience of customer service I expect is becoming harder and harder to come across anymore. I don’t mean subservient or doting behavior, I mean authentic, knowledgeable people who personalize how they communicate and deal with people that leave others feeling great about their experience. Patti and Ryker did just this. They not only take the time to learn about everyone in the group, they remember your name. They deal with you in all circumstances in a way that shows they understand you and enjoy being in your company. The Adrenaline zip line package with the watering hole was one of our highlights of our entire 2-weeks on Kauai. The property is breathtaking and Ryker did a great job giving a funny historical background of the area and notable areas we drove through to get to the start of our lines and journey. The zip lines were great, but the stop for 15 minutes to plunge into the hidden swimming hole was the best part for me. You could jump in from a 15 foot platform, a lower platform or on a mini zip line that you jump off and into a cool hidden pool in the mountain. The equipment and facilities all were very well maintained and leading edge for zip lines in my opinion. I have done courses all around the world and this was by far the best. There are no money-making filming or mandatory cameras set up that try to get you to buy their pictures, just two incredible young people who love what they do and openly share their love of their island with their guests. Patti gave us some great local spots and tips to check out that I will keep secret…. I can keep going but I will wrap up by saying if you are deciding where to go on Kauai to zip line. Don’t look anywhere else and do the adrenaline one! Ask for Patti and Ryker. Thank you for a great experience for our family! We will be back.Written 19 July 2024

Needless to say, don't wear any valuable and meaningful jewelry! My very first time doing anything like this since it was our honeymoon, so I didn't expect my ring to slip off so suddenly in the last watering hole we went to. What a great time we had with our guide, Tim. He was a master at his job, passionately explaining plants of interest with detailed information. Tim made time to paddle beside all the six kayaks in our group, making sure everyone felt included. The kayak experience was lovely and calm, stopping along the way to hear one of Tim’s stories, such as the ancient fish pond, and other folk stories from past history. The hike through the bush was easy, and the rope swing into the swimming hole was wonderful. Thanks again, Tim, you made our excursion a highlight of our holiday. Great experience and value for money. Highly recommend!

The trip started with a pretty easy kayak upstream. I wasn't expecting to use tandem kayaks, but it was fine. With half a dozen or so kayaks in our group, it was easy for there to be a good amount of distance between us, but the guide ensured she spent time at the front, the back and inbetween to keep us all engaged. During the kayak trip, we went passed a historic fish pond which had a fun legend associated with it. There was an easy hike through lush forest to a very nice waterfall that we looked at for maybe 10 minutes before turning back and hiking to a swimming hole with a rope swing. We spent about 15 minutes there before returning to the kayaks and boarding a powerboat back to the dock. This boat ride back to the dock included snacks and more local legends that were interesting. Overall, it was a nice way to spend a few hours outside without being too strenuous.

Our family, two parents and kids ages 20 and 18, just did this tour. It was beautiful! Our guide was Megan and she was very knowledgeable about the local legends and folklore as well as all the plants, native and invasive. The kayak portion and the hike was not really difficult.

The kayak-hike was not what we expected and not worth $135.00 a person. Why? We were told by the resort where we were staying that it would be a 5-6 hour outing. Our total trip was about 4 hours. We were told to check in at the Outfitters Office so we did. When we got there, we were told that we could go with Lolo in the van, but that if we drove to Smith's Tropical Paradise ourselves we could leave directly after the tour from there (saving time having to go back to the Outfitters Office and more time on the road backtracking to our resort). So we then drove to Smith's, but that wasted a lot of time. Why not tell customers to report directly to Smith's? The hike: I understand with the narrow trails why we were single file on the hike. However, we were at the end, and by the time we got to the rest of the group, Lolo had already started to talk about the flora, history, etc., of the area. We missed a lot because of that and because we could not hear what he was saying. When we got to the falls, we expected people but not as many as there were. It was like a tropical Disney World, not the peaceful place we had hoped. Also, we barely had enough time there to take a dip in the water and eat a turkey sandwich. There was not enough time to appreciate the area although that would have been hard with so many people there. Lolo explained that there are seven tour companies. Why not stagger the days or times of arrival/departure so customers can truly appreciate the beauty of the area? Or give people maps, explain the dangers, charge a moderate fee for information and fee for kayak rental, and they can go on their own (as obviously locals or other people did). We booked the tour because obviously we were unfamiliar with the area, being from Pennsylvania, and expected it to be a more serene and informative hike. We also expected to learn a lot, as was advertised, about the area, which we didn't. The tour was not worth the $135 a person. No complaints about Lolo, a Kauai-born resident. I'm sure he knew a lot. It's just a shame we never got to learn more from him. We wouldn't recommend this tour. Any refund would be appreciated.

Aloha Debbie G,
We are very sorry to hear you were disappointed with your Wailua River tour to Uluwehi falls. (aka Secret falls) We strive to make every experience a 5 star tour. The 5-6 hour tour is timed from check in to return which includes transit time. You booked through your hotel concierge so I cannot say what transpired with your booking. However, I do know that the staff at the Koa Kea is excellent and the agent who booked you is very familiar with the Wailua River tour. We like to offer people a choice of riding or driving from our check in. The tour companies do stagger their tour times in hopes of not being too crowded. It is a state park so there can be quite a few people at the falls that rent kayaks and adventure up on their own. They rent at random times and have no schedule. We have no control over that. We ALWAYS recommend going up the river with a guide. Conditions can change quickly with the rain on the Wailua river and we care about safety above all else. Lono is an amazing guide. Thank you for noticing. We do offer a great and casual tour up the Hule'ia river. It's the Hidden Valley Falls Kayak Adventure. It will take you up into private property with a guide. Although there is no 120 foot water fall, there is a very scenic area where the water rolls over the rocks creating beautiful scenery and photo opportunities. The only people you will see are the people on tour with you. This tour also offers a boat ride back. Please consider the Hidden Valley falls tour next time. You won't be disappointed!!!

My cousin and I traveled from New York and California for the first time to Kauai. We had our hotel book this vendor for a kayaking adventure. In all honesty it was not my first time on a kayak but it was definitely my cousin‘s first time. Also the type of kayak that we were given is not something that I had used before. Our so-called tour guide (Sabre) didn’t spend even 60 seconds to explain anything to anyone in our group. It felt like he was forced to be there and when I say zero guidance think less than that. Again the two of us were complete amateurs because we came with two big backpacks (which I could tell annoyed him very much) thinking we needed to have a change of outfit and water sandals with us (which was suggested by our hotel). I’ve been on many tours in many different countries… from what I understand a tour guides job is to help guide and make the experience a memorable one for the client. Maybe Sabre was having a bad day - I don’t know what happened to him but if you’re going to call yourself a tour guide you might want to practice before you come to work. Outside of trying to make it a fun event it’s important for safety purposes to try and explain what people are supposed to do on a kayak before they get on. We did see other tour guides nearby that were not only explaining everything to their group but also laughing and having a wonderful time. Again not sure if he had an off day but if you can pick someone else as your “tour guide”.

We did the kayak upriver and hike to the “falls”. Our group of 6 people had 1 guide, Elvis, who was knowledgeable and helpful.
It seemed odd to easily paddle upstream but we had the tailwinds helping to push us! We were essentially the only people on the river since this outfitter does not do the Wailua river and falls like most tour groups offer.
The hike was muddy and no one did the rope swing since the water was pretty murky. The falls were uneventful if you were expecting Wailua. Elvis spread out a basic lunch that attracted a number of chickens. We had no bugs during our visit.
We hiked back to the kayaks and found a small boat waiting for us to to us (and out kayaks) back downstream. It sure beat paddling against the wind!
Our only concern was that we were lead to believe we were getting (and paying for) a 5 hour tour that only took 3-3.5 hours. Seemed a bit pricey based on that timeline.

Aloha davisfamily,
Thank you for sharing your vacation with us. We do offer tours on the Wailua River to Secret Falls. It's much more of a workout than the Hidden Falls Kayak tour you chose. There is no motor boat ride back against the afternoon headwind. For your convenience we offer check in at our Kayak Shack at the Nawiliwili small boat harbor. This saves you the extra driving time and does make the tour a bit shorter than the check in at our Poipu office. We have something for almost everybody. Please come back again and try our trip on the Wailua River. It's definitely a day to remember.

We did the 6 hour tour with kayaking, swimming, zip lining, and a boat. I've never done something like this so I didn't know what to expect but it was amazing! They thought of every small detail, water was ready for us anytime I started to get thirsty, the lunch was good, the views were unmatched, and the guides were very knowledgeable and enjoyable!
The only scary part for me was the suspension bridge but we were perfectly safe.
Patti and Kannan were our guides and I would ask for them both in the future.

This was the perfect combination of river kayak and forest hike that I was looking for in order to appreciate the diverse landscape of Kauai. You start out by kayaking down Huleia Stream, which provides a picturesque setting for a relaxing paddle. As you are going with the wind and the current it is not difficult to make progress. Experience kayaking before helps, but we traveled with two inexperienced couples who were moving just as easily as everyone else after a few minutes. Likewise, the forest hike requires a bit of physical exertion but there is not a large elevation change and it is not a challenging hike by any means. For those who are able, I highly recommend taking advantage of the rope swing and of the short climb up one waterfall to get to another. Our guides Dusty and Mel did a great job of sharing many interesting stories and anecdotes about the history of the property, as well as facts about the local ecology and biodiversity while we observed examples right there in the wild. They also happily answered all of our random questions. The return trip upriver is on a motorized canoe, so you get to relax and have a snack while enjoying the view one more time. We stayed quite warm throughout the tour and only used one layer of clothing, but we did appreciate wearing quick drying clothes and shoes with a good grip as the trail can be a bit muddy and you’ll probably get wet in the kayak. I would take this tour again in a heartbeat!

Yes its buggy but they tell you to bring bug spray. We've done a few of these on different islands as well and this is one of the better ones. Great interactive guides but you're gonna get sweaty and messy. You are outdoors hiking, swimming, zip lining, kayaking for four or so hours.
