Charles is awesome! We headed out knowing there might not be waves, just ready to have a good time—and then, out of nowhere, the waves came crashing in! Charles gave us the prep we needed to feel confident and stand up on the board. He was an absolute delight to hang with—fun, encouraging, and full of good vibes. His positive feedback made the experience even better. I highly recommend surfing with Kona Town Surf Adventures and would 100% surf with Charles again!

My teenage daughter wanted to go surfing for her graduation from high school gift. Charles did a great job with both of us. We had a great day in the water. Surfing with my daughter in Hawaii was her dream come true.

We had a fantastic class with Charles. He first had us practice on land before paddling out. Gave us specific, clear, and logical guidance. Once on the water, he watched us, cheered us on, and helped us progress on our boards. So much fun, we will be back!!!

Never surfed before and today I rode my very first wave. Charles is a great instructor. Clear communication skills....verbally and physically. Patient and encouraging. Gave valuable feedback. Very attentative to safety. Great sense of humor.

We booked a semi-private lesson for the four of us. The parking lot was full but was able to find close street parking. We met our two instructors (Toby and Julian). Toby gave us the safety information regarding the current, the flow of surf traffic, the important ‘how-tos’, and a lesson on what to physically do. The booties that they have for you are solid (I’m now looking for them everywhere locally). We had our own rash guards. They helped us into the water. After that, it was magical! The temperature of the water, the blue sky and sun could not have been better! Toby and Julian, would push the board and instruct to paddle then pop-up. The kids were both successful popping up! There is a photographer there capturing all the photos of those that make it up to standing. We’ve already downloaded those purchases. Thank you! It was a really great experience and fantastic memories were made!

We are a family of six, four kids ages 8 to 15. We had a semi private option with three instructors. Everyone got up multiple times and had a blast. Tiring!

Hanz was a great instructor. He took our group of four out for our first surfing lesson and had a great time! My son got up pretty quickly and had a number of good rides. His fiancé kept at it and with encouragement from Hanz, she was able to ‘pop up’ and experience surfing for a bit. My daughter, the athlete of the family was able to get comfortable on the board and had some good looking rides. Me, the old man, not so much. I gave it the ‘college try’ but couldn’t do better than half a pop! Didn’t matter, we all had a blast on a beautiful day in Kona in the water. I highly recommend Hanz for his supportive approach and overall effort to make sure we all had fun.

We had a great time surfing with the instructor. He was very patient and supportive. We will gladly come back and the yelp reviews were right on.

I have always been somewhat intimidated by surfing but wanted to try it on the last day of my trip to Kona. I was thrilled to actually ride a wave on my second wave! Hans is an amazing instructor with excellent people skills. I enjoyed every minute of my time in the water. It made me want to move to Kona and buy a surfboard!

Ali gave great explanation and feedback. I was able to get up and surfing pretty quickly and had a great time. I’ve wanted to try surfing for a long time and I’m glad I did it!
