- 874karlr0 contributionsFun and Interesting TourWe try to book Secret Food Tours whenever we visit a new city. We were in Washington DC visiting so why not. Ariana, our guide was delightful. Very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about her city and its food possibilities. We met and walked through Georgetown stopping at various restaurants and bars. We had a pastrami bagel sandwich, cheesesteak egg roll, vegan veggie wrap, crab sushi roll and an incredible cupcake. We washed it down with beer, vodka soda concoction and macchiato. The whole time we were strolling with Ariana getting to know each other and seeing that beautiful section of DC. The joy of the Secret Food Tours is that you take the time to stroll, eat, drink and talk. Thank you Ari!Written 14 December 2023

While the food tour was fun, it was way overpriced I payed 45$ for the drink package and I was aloud to have a 8$ beer and a 15$ cocktail. The tour guide was just ok and barely spoke about any history. He also showed up 10 minutes late and did not apologize for it. One of the stops was closed that day so instead we just skipped, not even replacing it. The food wasn’t all that great either the best being a chicken shawarma wrap that we shared with whole group and did have not utensils to serve it with or plates to eat it on. All in all the tour took maybe two hours despite it saying it would be three and a half hours overall it was a waste of time and money, do not recommend.

Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding your recent food tour experience.
We are happy to know that overhauling the tour was fun. We appreciate your honest assessment and apologise for any disappointment or inconvenience you experienced during the tour.
We understand your concern about the pricing of the drink package and the value you perceived. We aim to provide a comprehensive and enjoyable experience that includes a variety of drinks, and we regret if you felt it did not meet your expectations.
We apologise for the tour guide's late arrival and the lack of an apology for the delay. Punctuality is an essential aspect of our service, and we regret any inconvenience caused by the late start. We will address this issue with our team to ensure this doesn't happen in the future. We don't tolerate tardiness in our local teams.
About one of the stops being closed, we apologise for that. It's a situation beyond our reach; we call every morning to our venues to book a table for our guests. That venue said everything was ok, but they had a situation in their kitchen and had to close down.
We are already revising this experience to ensure we deliver an excellent service in the future. Please do email us at info@secrettours.com so we can discuss this situation. We would love to have you back in one of our 60+ Secret Food Tours worldwide.

One of our favorite things to do when we visit a new city or country is to book a local food tour. Unfortunately, we found this particular tour to be the first one that was disappointing. We still had fun thanks to the other lovely guests, but the food was so so (except the "Call Your Mother" bagel which was unbelievably good), and the guide did not come across as much of a foodie or passionate about food in general. He was new at this gig, so that may explain part of it, and he certainly tried hard to please, but we did not get the sense that being a tour guide came naturally. Frankly, and as others have said in earlier reviews, this particular tour is way over priced for the items offered. We have participated in other Secret Food tours in different cities that were amazing, so we had high expectations. Unfortunately, this tour did not deliver like the others. Keep looking.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We're saddened that your experience on our Washington DC Walking Food Tour fell short of expectations.
Firstly, we appreciate your kind words about the other guests on your group; it's always wonderful when our tours bring people together to enjoy good food and company. However, we're disappointed to learn that our selections and our guide didn't meet your expectations. We strive to offer a memorable culinary experience that showcases the best of Georgetown, and it's disheartening to hear when we miss the mark. We understand your concern and assure you that we regularly evaluate our offerings to ensure they provide good value for the experience provided and really highlight authentic selections that are well-loved in the city.
Additionally, regarding your comments about our guide, please know that we take training and selecting our guides very seriously. While we're glad to hear he made efforts to accommodate your group, we regret that his passion for food didn't shine through as expected. Your feedback will be used constructively to ensure our guides are equipped not only with knowledge, but also with genuine enthusiasm for the local cuisine.
We sincerely appreciate your loyalty as a returning guest and regret that we did not meet the high standards you experienced in other cities. We hope that you will consider giving us another chance to exceed your expectations on a future tour. If you’d like to discuss this further, don’t hesitate to reach out to us at info@secrettours.com.

I recently had the pleasure of going on the Secret Food Tours Washington D.C. and it was an absolute blast. Our tour guide, Jeremiah, is a knowledgeable and friendly guide who really made the experience special. He was passionate about the city's food scene and shared interesting facts and stories about each stop on the tour.

This was a fantastic (and delicious!) tour. Our guide Omar's pride for a city that normally gets so much negative press, was so refreshing and inspiring! We went to fun locations and got to sample unique foods. Omar felt like a friend in our group, not like someone beholden to a timetable (although we were in a rush to get to our cupcakes before they closed, but we were all in agreement on that!). Move over Muriel! I vote Omar for mayor!

Thank you for taking the time to share your delightful experience with us, Kelly! It warms our hearts to hear your feedback about our tour guided by Omar. We're pleased to know that his passion for Washington shone through and left you feeling inspired.
It's also wonderful that you enjoyed the diverse culinary offerings and felt like you were in the company of a friend, rather than just a guide. We understand the importance of flexibility and ensuring you have enough time to savor every moment, especially when there are cupcakes involved!

Connor was a great guide. He was knowledgeable, spent 1x1 time with all the guests and answered all our questions. We had bites at local favorites that were all delicious. Loved the stops and his stories about all the sites along the way. He went out of his way to make sure all were accommodated, providing water at each stop and even gathering all our trash if we were not seated at a table. We started with a delicious breakfast bagel, then on to the Cheese steak egg roll. From there we had a tasty vegetarian taco in a homemade corn tortilla, then a great sushi seafood bite. Finished with a beautiful cupcake. We were all stuffed at the end of the 3 hour tour. Highly recommend this tour and Connor as a guide.

Disappointing and Embarrassing Experience
As someone who has been on many food tours, this one was a major letdown. Aside from a decent bagel, the portion sizes were incredibly small, often just a single bite. While we were offered the chance to purchase additional items at our own expense on several occasions, it felt like a blatant upsell attempt rather than a genuine food tasting experience.
What made it worse was our guide's appearance. He looked completely disheveled, as if he had just rolled out of bed and thrown on yesterday's clothes. It was embarrassing to walk around and enter establishments with him. Not to mention he was the one who handled our food after he would take his hat off and wipe his forehead and run his hands through his hair.
I cannot recommend this food tour to anyone. There are far better options out there that offer a more enjoyable and professional experience.

Thank you for taking the time to share your comments, Angela. We're saddened that your experience on our Washington DC Walking Food Tour did not meet your expectations. We always aim to provide an enjoyable and memorable experience, and it’s disappointing to learn that we fell short during your visit.
Our team curates our tours to ensure that our guests can sample a range of local flavors in adequately spaced-out tastings, allowing for a variety of experiences without feeling overly full midway through the journey. We strive to offer a balanced tasting experience, but we understand that this didn’t align with what you were looking for. Many guests appreciate the variety of these tastings, but your feedback is valuable, and we will certainly take it into consideration as we review our tour offerings.
We also recognize that our guides are an integral part of the experience, and we remind them regularly to present themselves in a professional manner. We're disappointed that this was not reflected in your tour, and we want to assure you that we take these matters seriously. Your assigned guide will be undergoing additional training and coaching, led by our Local Manager, to reinforce the high standards we expect and ensure our guests have the best experience possible. This feedback will also be addressed with the rest of the team to ensure our standards are consistently met.
Your comment about the upselling is also noted. Our intention is always to enhance the experience, not detract from it. We’ll review how we present additional purchasing opportunities to make sure they feel appropriate and optional, rather than intrusive.
While we understand that this experience was not what you had hoped for, we hope you’ll consider giving us another chance in the future - where we're confident you'll discover more culinary delights and fascinating stories.

Andrew was nice but made up historical point. Good was bad. 1st stop was a breakfast place Telford pastrami and egg bagel covered in, honey. I asked for no hunney don’t like sweets. But they wanna accommodate I’d be more than happy to buy my own didn’t have that option either I had to stand in line for 30 minutes and we delayed the tour
. I can’t stop was supposed to be cheesesteak sandwiches. It was actually half of a cheesesteak deep-fried egg roll, which tasted worse than a sandwich. It was pretty disgusting and gross. The third stop was Lebanese ice cream. I don’t like sweets so I passed on it, but the son loved it.. The next stop was supposed to be tacos, but it turned out to be vegetarian tacos. Me and my son skipped it. My wife tried it, but after two small bites, she could not eat anymore. yeah, the last stop was cupcakes. My son got some my wife got one to go. Of course I skipped because I don’t like sweets. When I booked us, it said epicurean delight this was I don’t know trailer trash food. And Andrew probably just miss train gave wrong information about the college about history of food. The rat pack was Disney Moore and Rob blow. He was talking about where we met at was in Saint Elmo’s fire when he went over he didn’t know any history or anything about it so I’m overall I would skip this. This is a pretty bad trip. I will be requesting a refund or disputing on credit card.

Our tour guide Vernée was really great! It was raining the whole day, but she showed up and was friendly and good spirited the whole day - she even gave her umbrella to one of the people on the tour with us. The tour was straight forward and the path was easy to walk. There was a lot of food and it was quite filling - we had eaten a light breakfast beforehand, so when the tour started at 1pm and ended at 4pm, it felt like we had both lunch and dinner! At the second to last stop, I ordered a cocktail and was not happy with it. Vernée was really good at advocating for me in getting the drink remade. She noticed I was upset and she helped fix the wrong, and that meant a lot to me she cared so much. It was also clear she was friends with all the servers who worked at all the stops, so it was nice to see.

We had an excellent time on our Georgetown walking food tour with Gokce as our guide! Her friendliness and enthusiasm made for a great tour that we highly recommend. The food was tasty and the 'menu' was diverse. We appreciated that the tour highlighted sustainable, locally produced, and independent cafes/restaurants.

Jeramiah was our guide and he was just awesome. He was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about great food, that’s what we want. Food tours are my favorite part of traveling, and I really enjoyed the food on this one. I’d say this was one of the very best food tours I’ve ever been on. It was really hard to decide on my favorite item.
1. The Sun City - best seller from Call Your Mother Deli: Pastrami, egg, American & Cheddar Cheeses, Spicy Honey on an Everything bagel
2. My favorite stop! The most popular appetizer at The Tombs - Philly Cheesesteak Egg Roll: Chopped Ribeye steak, fried onions, melted American cheese dipping sauce
3. Creamy Kale & Potato taco with pepper jack, salsa verde @ pickled red onion from Chaia Tacos.
4. Old Bay Crab Pressed Sushi from Farmers Fishers Bakers.
5. Cherry Blossom cupcake from Baked & Wired. I’m really glad I was here during Cherry Blossom season to be able to enjoy this very special flavor! To die for.
