- Lightlover530 contributionsNICE LITTLE CRUISE ON THE HUDSON RIVERNice cruise up the Hudson River from Kingston. Crew was very nice. Ship was clean and had plenty of seating. 2 issues however prevented this from being 5 stars. #1...lets put some decent speakers on the top level near the front of the ship. The whole cruise, we could not hear anything the Captain was telling people over the engine of the ship. I am sure I not the only one who would say this is badly needed. # 2 - All correspondence and literature on the cruise said credit cards and debit cards would be accepted for drinks and snacks. Well, when I went down paper signs around the cash register said no debit and no credit cards...and no change given, need exact amount cash payment. Well, my beer and my wife's glass of wine cost me $30.00 because the cashier could not give change. Left me with a feeling of a money grab. No reason you cannot have sufficient change on board. Your know well in advance how many people will be on board. Then once docked, the Captain politely said tips are not required but they are appreciated. Well, you got my $8.00 tip when you could give me change at the snack bar. Left a bad taste in my mouth. Overall a nice experience and it was cool to see a couple of lighthouses.Written 22 February 2024

- prillamo0 contributionsEnjoyable look at the HudsonWe took the trip and got a different perspective of the Hudson River Valley. Our guide had interesting information about the area, history, and the lighthouse and "cottages" along our way. The ship had a spot for everyone - a heated area on the lowest deck, less breeze on the middle deck, and the upper deck was pretty breezy. If I had anything to criticize, it would be that it was hard to hear our guide over the speaker system unless you were standing right by it.Written 28 October 2023
- 444444444444444ccc0 contributionsAudioguidePerhaps should be particularized to a specific deck. Or maybe be rendered silently as part of a concise foldable brochure. How tranquil the river cruise would otherwise be. Also, the historical passages pertaining to Indian peoples being utterly annihilated is inaccurate and misleading as many tribes have proliferated unto the present day. The presentation resonates as a white hand closing the book on a melanined minority.Written 24 October 2023

- j0gger30 contributionsCruise was okayThe leaves did not all change yet. Maybe because of the rain, it is later this year. There were not that many sights to see. The weather was fine so we stayed upstairs. Seats are very uncomfortable. I think it's time to upgrade the chairs.Written 20 October 2023
- Kerry S0 contributionsSomething different, simple and funMy fiancé and I went on the boat to see the fall foliage. Unfortunately the weather was cloudy and cold, and the trees had only begun to change so there wasn’t a lot of foliage, but that’s nothing the cruise can change! The guided tour takes you around the river and points out historical landmarks, castles, lighthouses, and tells you about things in the area. There were 3 levels you could roam, the top being exposed to the elements and the bottom being temperature controlled. There were clean bathrooms on board. There is a fully stocked bar with a good amount of options but we paid $28 for 1 beer and 1 mixed drink with tip. I guess it’s not bad but the mixed drink came in a small cup. We didn’t try the pretzels, pop corn or hot dogs they were selling. Luckily there were only about 50 people on board so we had plenty of room to sit and move around. Overall this was a different and fun experience and we are thinking of going again during the warmer months!Written 16 October 2023
- 462lylej0 contributionsFall rideWe took an early fall ride during the rain on the Rip Van Winkle. We were a little early to see the peak colors, but it was a very nice smooth ride. The crew and the drinks were great (although the drinks were a little pricey). We had a great time.Written 16 October 2023
- 98mayk0 contributionsGreat Boat TourHusband and I are both interested in the trading and industrial development, and maritime history of the country, and therefore of the vital Hudson River area. The history we wanted was included in the friendly narration provided, plus so much more! Also the stories of the lighthouses and their keepers, backgrounds of families still plying their trades, and the tales of successful and failed business ventures into the present. Brids seen while on board and at the dock: two adult swans with their cygnet between them, lots of cormorants and fun-to-watch seagulls, blue jays, sparrows. We lucked out on the weather, with cool breezes and bright warm sunshine. Even took off our outer jackets and jwere happy in our vests and long sleeves. Friendly passing boaters waved, fellow passengers were polite when taking their photos. Both charis and benches available, and open and covered seating areas. Popcorn was hot, candies and drinks (both sofr and "adult") available for purchase. So everyone was happy. The river was smooth and winds light so this seasick-prone sailor had zero issues. Some trees had begun to put on their fall show; lovely reflections of color in the water. The surrounding cliffs and hillsides must be gorgeous when the colors are at their height. Very good restaurants right at the dock, one has a patio with water view and open-air bar. Parking is free and convenient if you show up early. Some handicapped spots available, or just get dorpped off and the dirver can then find parking. Excellent cover from the weather provided by an overpass. Can't be happier with our experience.Written 14 October 2023
- Carol Z0 contributionsPleasant cruiseThe cruise was relaxing, the boat was clean, and the speaker was interesting. It was a leaf peeping cruise but, unfortunately we saw no fall colors, which, of course, had nothing to do with the cruise company! We are both glad we took the river cruise as a relaxing break from our busy sightseeing schedule.Written 12 October 2023
- Laurel D0 contributionsLovely outing and nice staff.Pretty cruise. Saw a Great Blue Heron and a sail boat race. Make sure you dress warmly. The staff were friendly and we enjoyed a glass of wine while sight seeing.Written 10 October 2023

As a year round resident , I’ve been taking this cruise for over 45 years. Experiencing the Mighty Hudson this way, accompanied by a narration of the area’s history and waited on by a caring crew , never disappoints. Last week, I took two friends visiting me from Florida , who were experiencing the Hudson Valley for the first time. They loved being in the river, along with the interesting talk and congenial treatment by every single crew member. I enjoyed the trip as well. The trip ended about 45 min short of what is advertised. We noticed that . When experiencing something as great as this cruise , one tends to want it to last forever.

As part of our wedding anniversary, we took this river cruise and could not have been more pleased. The sights on this part of the Hudson are spectacular, full of history and the challenge of evolving ecology. The commentary during the cruise was interesting and informative. The captain and crew were engaging, helpful, very enthusiastic about the river and added a great deal to the trip. The snack bar has the expected assortment of tempting chips, pretzels, etc., but the selection of draft beers was surprisingly good.
Parking is an issue, so I would recommend arrival well ahead of departure time. Sun on the river was intense, so we stayed under cover on the second deck and were quite comfortable.
My only issues were difficulty hearing the commentary at first (but when mentioned to the crew, the volume was turned up and clear after that) and seats hard on the tush (cushions would be a nice addition).
If you get the chance, I would heartily recommend this cruise. Ask the captain and crew about things to see and places to dine in Kingston. We took their recommendation for Mariners' Harbor and it made a perfect combination for a great day.

This was a very good two hour cruise on the Hudson. Our purpose there was for a fall foliage and it did not disappoint. We were on the 11am and departed on time. The captain pointed out interesting facts but we could barely hear him. It didn't matter. The scenery was the star and it was well worth the trip.

Was looking forward to a beautiful day on this Hudson River Cruise Rip Van Winkle going out of Kingston when it was cancelled 10 minutes prior to my arrival time. It was such a huge disappointment to myself, my Dad, my two teens. We drove an hour and eleven minutes to be told the ship had broken down. Shouldn’t this shop been inspected early that morning before the 2:30pm depart time. Does not seem organized. I did get a refund via email but still pending on credit card. I will not be back. I wish they would have offered me a discount towards a future visit or free tickets for my time.

A friend and I were visiting Kingston, NY and we booked a cruise with Hudson River Cruise. The day of the cruise, the weather was overcast and a little rainy, but we were covered and stayed dry. The cruise lasted about 1.5 hours and I really enjoyed seeing the lighthouses and beautiful mansions along the river. The cruise was very nice and I'd recommend it.

Tour was scenic and relaxing. The top and middle deck can get windy and cold in Oct but they have a heated lower deck you can sit in and still see the views. Good info and I appreciated that they were honest about the treatment of the Native Americans but please note they are called NATIVE AMERICANS and NOT INDIANS!!! That is why I am removing one star. Also, we came on Columbus Day weekend, not knowing that there was a festival in the area and traffic/parking would be very difficult. I wish they had mentioned this in the confirmation email so that we could leave ample time to get to the area. Was stressful getting there on time to board the boat!

A nice 90 minute cruise up and down the Hudson River. I took the afternoon cruise on a Friday, so the boat wasn't very full, giving passengers time to relax and enjoy the sights and the narration. The crew was excellent all around, helpful with information, and being able to enjoy a snack and drink was nice as well. Definitely worth the time.

We had a great time getting a view of the Hudson river valley from the water. Kingston is a lovely little town with a fascinating history. The crew were friendly ad competent. The professionally done narrative gave us a concise description of what we were seeing. I only wish it could have been longer.

Was looking forward to experience this excursion. Unfortunately the boat needed repairs and our trip was cancelled while they waited for parts to arrive. Unfortunately after driving 30 minutes we found this just before being we should have boarded. I understand things can happen unexpectedly but since the transaction was digitally there’s no excuse for this lack of notification. We finally got a notification after we should have departed.

I’m a tourist to NY and when I tried to book the website said we will provide the address after your purchase. Well it turn out the cruise was in Kingston NY which was a day and five ours away. I assumed we were close to the cruise line upon making purchase. We ended up not going and I’m $240 lighter. I even called customer service hours before the cruise to try refund they took info down but never called back! Horrible experience and embarrassing

I can only speak for the Rip Van Winkle: one boat at 11, and that was on Sat of Labor Day weekend. After Labor Day? Weekdays? You are going to have to look up Hudson River cruises out of Kingston.
