A Chilly Comedy of Errors: Carry On Sightseeing
Oh, what a Tallinn-tastrophe it was! Picture this: a frosty October day, yours truly, a sprightly 70-year-old adventurer, eagerly waiting for the hop-on-hop-off bus in Tallinn. But wait, and wait, and wait I did, until my patience froze over faster than Elsa's castle. As I stood there, feeling older than the medieval walls of Tallinn, I could've sworn I overheard my lower back having a heated debate with my L5S1 discs – apparently, they had some "bracket-busting" issues of their own. I must admit, I've never seen my left foot look so rebellious, too! It's not a proper vacation unless you bring back a souvenir ache or two, right? In a desperate search for assistance, I dialed the number for City Sightseeing, hoping to find a sympathetic savior. But instead of a knight in a thermal cape, I got what felt like a callous firing squad commander on the other end. "Oh, it was canceled," he said as if he was talking about a TV show, not my chilly ordeal! Well, folks, it turns out they had already informed the local handlers about the cancellation, but no one thought to give me the memo. Did they miss the Customer Service 101 class at "Sightseeing University"? So, on that fateful 31st of October, I mustered the courage to request a refund. The email exchange that followed felt like a rollercoaster ride – one moment, they told me no refund was coming because I failed to cancel in time, and the next moment, they had the generosity to announce that my refund was en route. It was like playing a never-ending game of "Hello, Dear Customer." But wait, there's more! When I called to vent my frustration at the tourist office in the Old City, they revealed that they too had spoken to City Sightseeing that very day. Another dissatisfied customer had complained, and they were told there would be no more tours until the New Year! It's almost like City Sightseeing and I were starring in a comedy – "Carry On Sightseeing" – a film full of misadventures, misunderstandings, and missed buses. So, if you're ever planning a trip to Tallinn and want a dash of drama with your sightseeing, give City Sightseeing a try. It's like an amusement park, only colder and with more back pain. Who needs roller coasters when you can experience the thrill of booking mix-ups and mysterious refund policies? All aboard the "Carry On Sightseeing" adventure! 🚌❄️🙃

Ridiculously overpriced for a limited experience
Sorry, not worth the money. A Bolt taxi (or a walk) to a few main attractions would have made much more sense. First of all, the time schedule is confusing as it changes if it’s a cruise day. We couldn’t find any information whether it was one or not. Well, it turns out it was one. The bus was delayed and full. The young lady selling tickets on the pavement tried to answer everyone’s questions and told us there would be another bus, but she was not sure what time. We got on the bus. The top floor was full so we had to sit inside. The view wasn’t clear and the middle passage was blocked by wheel chairs and baby strollers. Their was no Aircon and windows didn’t open The audio was audible, but honestly quite boring - and not always in sync with the actually attractions. A few passengers gave up and took their earphones off. Speaking of earphones, no collected used sets for recycling. 😢 No passengers hopped off, except for a few ones going back to their cruise ship. All in all, ridiculously over-priced, understaffed for a very limited experience.

Sightseeing vs. Red Buses be careful!
There are two bus companies for hop-on hop-off in Tallin, Estonia. They are similar in grade of confusion. We took “sightseeing” and the experience was not very good. I suggest to take Red Buses, a true international company. Sightseeing has only 2 buses apparently! For 25 Euros is not worth it. Choose red buses instead.

      Interesting tours
We thought that both bus tours were good value for money, the information was very interesting and we noticed quite a lot of different languages available. The weather was lovely for the open top, but if it rains the top can be closed. The bus could not go into the centre of town as it is mostly pedestrianised, but the tour gives you good ideas of where to visit . We enjoyed the tour and would definitely use city sight seeing tours again when we travel to other places.

Great way to see the city
This was a great way to see the city especially in the rain. Audio was perfect. Staff were friendly. Maybe in the future they could have a stop closer to the old town square for us who are old but over all it was wort the money

      Overpriced for Tallin
Having used Hop on Hop off before and found them great and decent value . This experience was a little flat , Tallin is a small place and the Red route took little under an hour to get around the stops . Now fair enough its winter and quiet but the Green route there was only 1 service and that offers little more . The public transport system is cheaper and better . Information given on bus was also canned and dull sorry but needs to be better and longer for money in my opinion. Buy a day ticket or smart card to see same site for a third of price

      Good option for Tallin
Still my kind of tour when I have little time to go sightseeing. There is a stop at the city harbor which is not close to the historic center so that made the Hop On Hop Off option quite handy as we were on a cruise.

Get the lay of the land on the Hop on Hop off.
Good way to see the city and history before deciding what to explore in detail. Also good for a cold or rainy day activity if you stay on the bus. It is a short tour compared with other cities, and it does not go into the old part of the city as it is pedestrian only. You can start the tour on any stops on the way. (It also has a stop at the Cruise terminal.) Tickets can be bought on the bus. Senior discounts are offered.

      Just ok
Good for convenience when on a cruise and you only have a few hours Used it whilst on our Baltic cruise as the bus was at the port and we had limited time. However most of the sites of beautiful Tallin are in the old town where the bus cannot go So we saw the port area and the new areas of Tallin and the old walled town from the outside but to see the best of Tallin you need to walk the streets. Not the worst, they were as frequent as they advertised, and not the best

      Terrible tour
I have been on hop-on hop-off bus tours in many cities, and generally love them. This was not one. First of all the bus does not go through the old , very charming part of town, it goes first out to the middle of nowhere, then skirts around the town and you have to get off and walk yourself into town, which you could have done from the start. There is no reason to use this tour. On top of that, it was sweltering hot (with the outside temp of 68) smelly (of diesel), and extremely slow. Just don’t do it.

      It was OK
The good thing about Tallinn hop on hop off is that you can ride the 3 lines as you wish and enter any of the buses. Generally the buses are VERY very slow and the bus driver on our bus was unhelpful and quite rude actually. Tallinn can be seen by foot because it is a compact city and it does not pay off to take this bus. Unless you want to see some museums that are outside of the city.

THey pick up right beside the port
Used this service while on a recent Baltic cruise. As we only had a few hours in port we just needed a quick overview of the city. We did one of the routes that lasted about an hour. .

      Fast and loose
The staff were friendly and the seats were actually fairly comfy but the tour is a little repetative and dull. The pace i suspect due to traffic was actually quite fast and like many things here geared up around the many cruise and ferry passengers. We did the old town and green line and i think we visited the ports three of 4 times and sat there quite a while which was a bit repetitive. The commentary is fine and theres a good choice of languages. That seats are comfy but the suspension on the bus wasnt great and so if you are sensitve bumps I wouldnt try and do this all at once. I have done a lot of these tours and just done one in helsinki. Id say this was ok but not the best I had done. However it is probably consteained by the traffic systems. It does what it needs which is show you around tallin quickly and easily. Highlights was tv tower and seaplane muesum. Decent views of fat margarits tower also. Also nice trip through the forrest and past the sea. Drawback was the pace, and time spent going to ferry and cruise terminals.

      Avoid!
Avoid this company! The bus didn't follow the published schedule. The driver informed us that the afternoon green route bus wasn't running. Very disappointed as we paid for a hop on/off servise but only had one trip half way around the red circuit due to the limied service provided. We saw many, many buses from the other hop on, hop off company regularly around throughout the day and were so disappointed we had picked City Sight seeing. How can this be a gop on and off service when it does one lap off the green route each day! The bus is also very loud upstairs and the window panels don't feel safe or stable.

Weekend break in a unknown city
We decided to go to Tallinn after reading about it in one of the Telegraph paper offers. A lovely city to wander around, lots of restaurants and coffee shops. Everything close by. Maritime museum is well worth a look, as was the Telecom Tower (Bus 34A). KGB museum was an eye opener into the countries history. Prices similar to Krakow and Prague. The hotel was 66 euro per night, right in the port area. Two full days was enough. Best retaurant was in Hotel Schlossle.

I had purchased a family ticket for Tallinn to use today. We had planned to visit the seaplane harbour museum as advertised as a stop on the Tallinn site. I literally downloaded the map from the webpage this morning, and it showed the green route as stopping at the seaplane harbour with the first bust leaving at 11am. So we headed for the main drop for 11 to be told the first green bus wouldn't leave until 12:55. So we had to kill 2 hours while waiting. It was then 20 minutes late to the stop. Then, when on the bus, we grabbed a leaflet and saw that it wasn't going to go to the seaplane harbour museum. The route advertised on the website, is different to the route taken by the bus! So, the birthday treat that we had planned for my husband, couldn't happen because they have falsely advertised their service! We've used these buses in every major city we have been to, but this was a disorganised nightmare. The bus was old, rickety and the commentary was dull and boring. The bus only went on two of the three routes on the website and this is peak summer, so surely they should all be running, or it should be clear at the time of booking. I am sorely disappointed by the lack of service we have received today.

Just getting back from a European trip. Any major City we visit, we have always loved the Hop on Hop off buses. This had to be the worst operated one we’ve ever done. The operator of the bus kept talking over the pre recorded tour that plays. Almost as trying to put his own spin on things. And really didn’t stop at but 1 or 2 of the sights where he actually gave you the chance to get off. Also being in Tallin a few days and paying attention to this bus. He seemed to be the only one running.

Very disappointed with this “tour”. The bus was in a bad condition, noisy and old. Audio was bad, the explanations also of bad quality and there were too long pauses when nothing was being explained. Language buttons were all mixed up. The worst hop on and off bus I have ever experienced, and I ve been in a few. 30 euros for this was a complete waste of money. Besides, they give discount to young people up to 17 years but no discount to senior citizens!

Don’t waste your money. We didn’t read the trip advisor reviews and feel like we wasted ours. Visited Tallinn as a cruise stop. We got on the bus at the port and they kept us waiting trying to fill it up which is a rude waste of time! There are 2 routes (red and green). We got the red route from the port. It didn’t go back to the port but the map shows it does. We got off to catch the green route which also apparently goes to the port too but we discovered it isn’t available in the morning. After a walk about Tallinn we went to a stop onto the red route and saw we’d have 40mins to wait for the next bus. We walked back to the port in 25 mins. Tallinn is being let down because Hop on Hop off at other cities is great.

This really cannot be considered a "hop on hop off" service there were only 3 "circuits" in the day unless there were cruise ships in port ( but of course you have no way of knowing) . This meant there was something like 90 minutes between buses. To make that worse the bus timetable was not adhered to and in our case resulted in us "just missing" the bus in the old town, deciding to go for a walk for 40 minutes as there was 70 minutes until the next bus - wrong we saw the next one after only 20 minutes and had to flag it down much to the annoyance of a grumpy driver. We wanted to go to Kadriorg Park and it was lovely - unfortunately we now had zero confidence in the HOHO bus and decide to make the 40 minute walk back to Tallin !!!. Total waste of money

What a complete waste of €25 pp. pick up from terminal. There were 3 stops & then last 3 stops were back to the cruise terminals.
An absolute rip off for what you got. Don’t waste your time catch ship shuttle to town & walk to old town walls from
    there

We got the Hop On/Off bus as my wife is ill and cannot walk far without a rest. We bought tickets on Sunday 31st December, and got off the bus at the Cruise Terminal to visit the market. We intended to catch the last bus at 15.15 as the timetable at the bus stop stated. Unfortunately we saw the bus leaving early at 15.05. There are many reasons why a bus can arrive late, but none for it to leave early. We waited until 15.40 in case we were at fault but no bus appeared. As it was cold and getting dark I had to pay 12 Euros for a taxi back to our hotel. I can understand that buses cannot be expected to keep perfect time, but the last bus in service should leave at the stated time. We were not the only passengers to be left stranded that day. Can I have my 12 Euros back please?

If you are on a Scandinavia & Russia Cruise you have MANY VERY HARD TOURING days and not many @Sea days! Here is an easy break for you. The Hop On Hop Off bus waits right at the Port Gate and after a nice city tour returns you to the same place! It is well organized, very reasonable, has a great commentary (earphones with commentary available in many languages) and requires almost NO effort unless you take a little walk through the "Old Town", We highly recommend!

Presentation not organized. Staff not helpful. The bus went past the most important place we wanted to see without stopping. We finished that line then switched to another, thinking we had simply missed it. Again, the bus did not stop. We then asked the driver (who spoke little English) and he pointed to a small sign on the side of the bus window. It seems that if a major stop would be excluded, customers should clearly be forewarned before purchasing tickets and wasting time. However, the history provided via narration was interesting.

Good narration on the bus tour. This was adequate but we didn't realize the buses ran hourly at the end of the day and we got caught out 1+20 hours before our all on board time with no Red Bus options. We ended up walking a mile or so from the HO/HO stop to the train station for the nearest taxi, about 7 Euros. In hindsight, the taxi option is cheaper and quicker if you're just going to Old Town...and there's not much to see outside Old Town
