About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- J6882DClaurenh0 contributionsGoulash for the WIN!!!Goulash (with a B) was the most wonderful guide I've met in a long time. He really knew his history, was engaging, very witty and funny and took care of us as a group. I would DEFINITELY recommend this company as they are fabulous!!!!!Written 19 March 2025
- Alarder300 contributionsBrilliant! The meeting point was well described and easy to find. Our guide (Bolash) had a little flag which helped you keep track of him and was excellent at English. He gave us a brilliant run down of Hungarian history to start with and then set a moderate pace as we moved from one area of interest to the next. He provided a lot of useful information about the history of statues etc and kept us all laughing as well. He was also very helpful with any questions about Budapest in general - how to use the public transport, landmarks to see etc. and was a qualified tour guide. He was a volunteer so he only asked for however much you could donate/felt that the tour was worth as a tip at the end. Despite it starting to rain about halfway through our tour it was still a brilliant experience and gave us a great glimpse into the history around us. I would recommend it to anyone as a great way to start your trip to learn a little more and help see some of the main sights while learning about them as well.Written 14 March 2025

- C4309ZQannal0 contributionsBuda Castle Tour with BalászBalázs started our tour with a crash course in Hungarian history, which was incredibly detailed yet funny and completely accessible. This set the tone for the entire tour that followed. All participants were visibly captivated and attentive; at every point, it was clear that we were in the hands of a highly professional, knowledgeable, and simply likable guide. We would wholeheartedly recommend joining the Free Walking Tour with Balázs to anyone.Written 26 February 2025

From her very first explanations, it was clear that she was capable of conveying the maximum amount of information in the shortest time and in the most charming way. The tour took us 1 hour and 40 minutes through the Jewish Quarter, and the entire time it felt like we were in the company of a highly educated, approachable, and warm-hearted person. We are very grateful to Dora for the access she gave us to the city and its rich history! Don’t hesitate—immerse yourself in this experience!Written 26 February 2025

Great walking tour with Lily in Budapest.
We covered a lot of ground on the 2 1/2 hour tour but we had regular stops on the free walking tour led by Lily who was really good at describing the landmarks that we visited and historical events of the city.
There were lots of opportunities for taking photos and soaking up the atmosphere at the landmarks and areas that we visited.
Lily engaged really well with all of the group and adapted her talk to respond to any queries raised.
I completed the tour with 4 friends and we all enjoyed it.
There were around 20 other people on the tour from a variety of countries.
Although the tour was free there was a minimum suggested donation to cover the local tax charges.
We were happy to pay much more than the minimum suggested rate due to our consideration of the high quality of the tour.
I would recommend the tour in order to get a good feel for the city and for information on the history, areas and practical things to consider while visiting Budapest.

Dear Colette,
Thank you for your review. I have contacted TripAdvisor to remove it from our account as it does not pertain to our tours.
We do not have a guide named Lily or anything similar. Additionally, our tours are clearly stated to take up to 2 hours in the tour description.
Furthermore, we want to address the issue of tipping. Our guides are trained to adhere to professional standards and do not suggest specific tip amounts to guests. We prioritize transparency, and all information regarding tipping customs is readily available on our website for guests' reference. The guidance offered is to assist guests who may be unfamiliar with local tipping customs, but it is by no means an obligation.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us.

Andy was our guide. He was friendly and informative. His English was very good and he included relevant history into his tour, without overloading us. He managed to present the tour with great sense of humour.
Certainly recommend this tour early in a visit to Budapest and as others have said booking directly on the website avoids fees.

Wonderful tour with Charlotte ( this is her Englishe name) she told us her hungarian name but unfortunately I can ot remember it. She was funny, genuine, personable and full of knowledge. The group were immersed in what she had to say. She did not skip over the hard parts off the history of budapest and some of the atrocities carried put there. Charlotte was also not pushy regarding tips for this free walking tour, which is always expected, instead she introduced this in a funny way. Even after the tour was finished she spent a good 1/2 hr speaking to people and answering questions. Really enjoyed this tour and would recommend. This tour was for the pest side only do we did book onto one for buda side but found this to give a lot of the same facts, so it did not hold our interest the same way. However I would recommend a wkimg tour to anyone to learn about the history, the people the food and learn some words. Thanks again Charlotte for a great tour

It was a bitterly cold January day but our guide ‘Rita’ gave us a warm welcome and a very good account of Hungarian history. We then proceeded to various points of interest around the City with informative explanations and time to take photos. Rita had a great sense of humour and went above and beyond in also giving us tips on restaurants, museums and how to successfully navigate around the city on public transport. We highly recommend this walking tour, especially if you can do it as soon as possible after arriving in Budapest to help get your cultural and geographical bearings!

This was a great introduction into the city to see the highlights and feel welcome. Our guide Emmy was very informative and helped answer all my questions about customs and expectations when traveling as well. I was able to get a quick sense of the history of the city and would recommend to any travelers there first a short time.

This was hands down one of the best walking tours I’ve ever taken! Our guide was excellent—extremely knowledgeable, passionate, and engaging. He brought Budapest’s history, architecture, and culture to life with fascinating stories and insights. The itinerary was well-balanced, covering both iconic landmarks and hidden gems, and the information about Hungarian cuisine, language, and daily life made the experience even richer. If you’re looking for a fun, informative, and well-paced introduction to Budapest, this tour is a must. Highly recommended!

A little confused at first as the guide had a flag with free walking tours on it but we had paid for our tour in advance. It turned out that we were in the right place though. It was a large group which the two guides split into two separate parties. Our guide was Judit and she was knowledgeable and clearly very proud of her counties history and the cities. She started with a condensed history of Hungary before moving us around the city giving us an insight into all of the key locations. Highly recommend the tour to anyone visiting the city. I certainly know more than I did at the start. We’ve even booked ourselves onto the Buda Castle tour later in the week.

Dear Excited,
Thank you for sharing your experience! We’re glad to hear you found the tour informative and enjoyed Judit’s insights into Hungary’s history. We understand the initial confusion with the flag, but we're happy you found your way to the right group!
Just to clarify, we partner with various platforms like TripAdvisor / Viator to reach more travelers. These platforms invest in advertising, which is why they charge a fee. We truly appreciate your recommendation and hope to see you again for more adventures in the city!

Had a great and entertaining tour provided by Balázs. He kept the tone informative yet playfull with jokes making it fun to listen to. I think, since I was standing at the front each time, that he could be heard even at the back of the group.
What was most interesting to me were the small things you don't get to hear in textbooks, e.g. why the St. Stephen basilica has a holy right and left side, or how the locals refer to certain buildings or artworks 🤣🤔.
He was even kind enough to recommend me a lesser known viewing spot on the Buda side, the Elizabeth lookout. And if you're willing to talk while walking, you can ask him anything.
Lastly, give his open-minded friend 🪖, Richard, some food for thought after the tour if you've got anything to spare 😉.

Dear Y2979C,
Thank you so much for your wonderful and detailed review about your walking tour in Budapest!
We're delighted to hear that Balázs provided an entertaining and informative tour experience. It's great to know that his playful tone and jokes made the tour enjoyable and that he was clearly audible even at the back of the group.
We’re pleased that you found the unique details and local insights particularly interesting. These are the kinds of stories that truly bring the history and culture of Budapest to life, and we’re glad Balázs was able to share them with you. The anecdotes about St. Stephen's Basilica and the local references to buildings and artworks are indeed fascinating:-)
We're also happy to hear that Balázs could recommend the Elizabeth Lookout Tower view spot for a lesser-known but beautiful view of the city. His willingness to engage and answer questions while walking shows his dedication to providing a memorable experience for our guests.
We look forward to welcoming you back on another tour in the future. If there’s anything else we can do to enhance your experience, please don’t hesitate to let us know.

Thank you to our guide this morning. Forgive me if I have your name incorrect. I think it was Nacho for short! Anyway, from start to finnish, it was a wonderful two hours strolling around in and out of the sunshine and leaning about the history and culture of Budapest. Your knowledge and passion for the city were very evident, and you held your audiences attention with your knowledge and stories as we went around the different landmarks in Buda. Great sense of humour. Would totally recommend this tour to anyone visiting for the first time. You won't be disappointed. Thank you.

The guide called himself Goulash, although it was not his real name, but something similar. The tour is quite good, dynamic and does not get bogged down with arrows and historical data. It is worth it for a first time in Budapest, in fact I recommend it for the first or second day to get a very general idea of the history and culture of Budapest. (To tell a couple of curiosities when you return home is very good).
