Overview
See a poignant piece of World War II history on a 5.5-hour tour of Auschwitz-Birkenau, with private transfers to and from Krakow. After pickup from your Krakow hotel by private driver, journey to the UNESCO-listed site for a guided group tour of the complex. Your guide will discuss the camp's harrowing history as you walk. Visit the watch towers, crematoriums and exhibitions as you hear stories of the lives that were lost there. Your trip will conclude with private transportation back to your Krakow accommodations.
What to Expect
Established in the early 1940s by the Nazis, Auschwitz was originally intended for Polish political prisoners. Later, when it was extended to include the neighboring site of Birkenau, it became an extermination camp for primarily European Jews, killing an estimated 1.1 million people.

Begin your trip at your Krakow hotel, where a driver will meet you at your preferred pickup time. Arrive outside the town of Oświęcim around 1.5 hours later, where you’ll join up with your guide at the camp’s visitor center.

Enter the gates of the complex under the chilling inscription of ‘Arbeit macht frei’ (‘Work sets you free’) and explore the key buildings and exhibitions that preserve the memory of the many lives lost there.

Learn how the Nazi camp functioned as you pass the barracks and watchtowers, as well as the gas chambers and crematoriums. Your guide will take care to discuss the harrowing stories in a sensitive manner as you go. You will have a brief break to eat a pre-packed lunch (own expense), as there are no eating facilities at the camp.

Afterward, visit the camp's memorial, and spend a quiet moment to remember the lives of the victims. Your tour will conclude with private transportation back to your Krakow hotel.

Great Service

Used Discover Cracow for both the Salt Mines & Auschwitz tours, a little rushed but hard to squeeze everything in but all very informative. Also 20% discount on return airport trip. Great service & organization on both tours, couldn’t really fault them

Auschwitz and Birkenau

Excellent guide on the tour, very informative and very clear speaking. Feel there could have been some kind of commentary on the bus telling about the area and places We travelled through, but only a comment didn’t take away from the actual tour.

Not A Small Group Tour with Discover Cracow

First, the Aushwitz-Berkenau sites are a must visit for anyone heading to southern Poland. Rated 5* My 3* rating is for DiscoverCracow because their "minivan", as mentioned on their website (for this tour) was a full-size motor coach (ala 55-60 people). Also, we were told...More

Awful experience

Auschwitz deserves better guides/translators than what we had to experience today. The woman who translated didn’t know ANYTHING (eg. who Anna Frank was, she also didn’t know anything about Mengele, she didn’t explain the figure of the Kapos, etc.). The explanations were lame, the information...More
