Meeting at 8 a.m. next to the tram stop Karolina (shopping centre OC Nova Karolina).
Our guide will take you to the Lower Vítkovice area by a city transport. You will savour the unforgettable atmosphere of the city's unigue location. Lower Vitkovice area is considered to be the Ostrava's Hradčany. We will tour the mining tower and blast furnaces. Vítkovice is a European rarity because the mining of coal and its processing as well as preserving took place at one single site. Thanks to that you can fully experience the whole process of this hard work.
After the tour which lasts maximum 3 hours, we will head off to the city centre for a lunch. Then we will visit the nearby highest point in Ostrava - Halda Ema, the so-called Ostrava's volcano. It is a pile of wasted slag extracted from the coal mining. The middle of the slag is still burning and you can see a steam rising up from the heap.
The city transport will take us to the Landek Mine where we experience the hard life of the miners. Equipped with yellow helmets, we will go down the shaft by an original elevator. The local guide, usually a former miner, will introduce us to the work of miner, turn on the machines that helped the miners with the exhausting work and tell you a story of shaft building. We will also experience the deep dark that was omnipresent during the miner's work. When back on the surface, we will learn about the Mine rescue service.
After the tour, we will end up in the historical centre of Masaryk's Square where we end our trip.
