Discover the splendors of Kutná Hora, once nicknamed the ‘City of Silver’, on this day trip from Prague. With an expert guide, travel through the countryside by coach to the UNESCO-listed Czech town that built its wealth on silver mining and once rivaled Prague. Ogle the Sedlec Ossuary, a chapel decorated with human bones; and then devote your attention to the medieval Old Town. Enjoy free time for lunch and see the Church of St Barbara, the former Royal Mint and other landmarks as your guide recounts Kutna’s history.
What to Expect
Make your own way to central Prague and meet your guide. Then, take the bus to the historical Czech town of Kutná Hora, once one of Bohemia’s most important towns.
As you travel, hear about Kutná’s history and how, having grown up around a 12th-century Cistercian monastery, it rose to prominence after the discovery of silver ore in the 13th century, coming to rival Prague in wealth and power during the late Middle Ages.
Once at Kutná, travel to the Sedlec Ossuary on the town’s outskirts. Enter the chapel and be awestruck by the haunting walls, ceilings and furnishings — all made from or covered in real, medieval human bones. As you inspect the morbid contents, discover why the chapel exists and how the bones are believed to come from around 40,000 people.
Continue into Kutná’s Old Town, an open-air museum awarded UNESCO World Heritage status for its well-preserved medieval architecture. Visit the Gothic Church of St Barbara to admire its opulent interior and wall frescoes of medieval miners, and learn how the church was dedicated to St Barbara, the miners’ patron saint.
Delve into the quaint squares and alleyways, and see other landmarks such as the impressive Italian Court — a fortified building that served as Kutna’s Royal Mint — and the Gothic Hrádek (Little Castle) palace.
Break for lunch (own expense), and in the afternoon, witness more Kutná highlights, including the Knight’s Hall and intricately carved Plague Column.
When the time comes, catch the return bus to Prague, where your tour finishes at the station.

Best option is to address the Sandeman tour operator Directly. They tend to respond very promptly.
