      Overcrowded and disappointing
We booked this excursion from our cruise ship thinking that a snorkelling trip to the Barrier Reef with a scuba diving option would be one of the highlights of our trip to Australia. A large powered catamaran picked us up directly from the ship. It surprised us that they were taking 250 guests to the same diving platform on the reef. It was so busy that we only just managed to get on the introductory scuba diving experience, (some were left unable to get on this due to the high demand). Once we arrived at the platform, everything felt rushed. We were in the first group to go scuba diving. As this was new to us, they led us through everything step by step and literally held our hands through the entire dive. At no point did we feel unsafe, but equally in the limited time we had we felt we were worrying about the process rather than enjoying the experience. We then went snorkelling and there were far too many people in a small area. There were a few fish, but most of the coral looked bleached. They did serve a buffet on the way back to our ship. Overall, it was just too busy for this to be an enjoyable experience.

      Disappointed by this tour
This tour takes their boatloads of tourists to the same place on the reef daily. It’s been a longtime dream to see the Great Barrier Reef but due to a very small snorkeling area and so many people in the water there were very few fish and the coral was not colorful or diverse. The “tea” and lunch were limited and not appetizing. The tray of cups for coffee and tea were dirty. I picked up one that had lip prints on the rim from someone else. That was gross. Next time I travel to Australia I will choose a smaller tour boat and hope to go to a more spectacular part of the reef where people are not bumping into each other due to the small area for swimmers this tour offered. The underwater viewing was same. Very few fish. The submarine ride was ok but water was murky and again very few fish and little coral was visible.

      Unreliable ferry service
We were very disappointed with our experience -we are scheduled to go to the great Bear reef today and after an hour of waiting, they told us our boat broke. We tried to quickly make up some other plans to “save the day” so booked a trip to Airlie in which was also delayed and had to wait 35 minutes for that boat. We walked around and arrived back at 2:20 to take the ferry back home only to find out they had canceled this ferry. This company completely unreliable and sadly ruined one of our very limited family day vacations in Hamilton island.

Just book the 2-days great barrier reef
I stayed at the Reef Sleep, and im highly recommended. First of all, when you stay overnight, whether in a Reef Sleep or at a Reef Suite, you have the opportunity to experience the reef by scuba diving or snorkeling without all the people who come for a day visit, and there is a more relaxed and pleasant atmosphere. But for me, although im a scuba and freediving enthusiast, i found actually the accommodation to be the real deal. The staff who stayed with us and hosted us were simply wonderful and friendly. We started our stay with wine and cheese, the chef's meals were great, and the intimate atmosphere creates wonderful connections between the other people who are also staying. I am a solo traveler and felt very comfortable. At night, you can meet Georgia/George at the underwater observatory, and sit and watch the sky full of stars. It was absolutley amazing. It is highly recommended to book a stay at Reef Sleep or Reef Suite, and totally worth the price. A huge thanks to the amazing team that hosted us, and to the other people who stayed.

      Overpriced and overcrowded..
What a disappointment. On the positive side, the boat was very comfortable with clean bathrooms, a coffee and tea station and two air conditioned cabin areas. If you have a young family or elderly travelers in your party, this may be a good fit for you. But if you are an experienced snorkeler or diver, you will be very disappointed. The boat was very crowded, especially in the beginning as it acts as a ferry to other islands with passengers coming from the airport with their luggage after it drops off those passengers and picks up some more swimmers. It finally heads out to the great barrier reef. Once at the reef it docks with a permanent floating station where the swimming begins. The tour offers many different options for swimming, snorkeling, scuba, diving and other types of tours. It is incredibly chaotic as all the different groups of people try to get off the boat And hook up with their excursions. My wife chose the snorkel excursion, and I did a scuba dive. Both of us are very experienced and have traveled all over the world diving and snorkeling. In both of our excursions, we were very limited into what we could do because of the size of our group and the inexperience of some of the participants. On top of that, the portion of the reef where the diving occurs is pretty bleached out and doesn’t have a lot of colorful, coral or fish. The whole process of getting off the boat and into our scuba gear took way too long and we ended up standing around in our tanks, waiting for another boat to take us to our entry location. As if all of that wasn’t aggravating enough by the time we got back to the boat for lunch almost all the buffet food was gone. My wife is a vegetarian and all of the lettuce tomatoes and fruit was gone. Fortunately, a crewmember named Jess recognized our frustration with the buffet and came and found us at one of the tables after she had come up with another container of fruit we really appreciated her efforts If you are an experienced diver, there are better options for than this company.

what a CHANCE BAY?? Wasted money and time! We could not go WHITEHEAVEN BEACH!!!
We should have gone to Whitehaven Beach, but they did not explain to us well why we should not go there. And we had to go to Chance Bay instead of Whitehaven Beach… It was so small and nothing.

Excellent staff and especially great with non- confident divers
We were most impressed with how the staff made us feel at ease during the guided snorkel safari. We weren't confident swimmers and the currents were very strong on the day we visited. Bela and Ollie were wonderful - they made sure our equipment was all as it should be, and reassured us during the snorkel itself. The information they gave during the snorkelling was also really interesting and they took us back to see particular coral we loved. Overall, the day was great and we got a lot of time to see the reef in different ways.

An amazing experience start to finish! Delicious food throughout the day, incredible coral and fish to see when snorkelling, canapés at sunset, group dinner and more snorkelling the next day! Couldn’t recommend it enough!

      Waste of precious vacation time
The Whitsunday Islands are amazing but this trip was a big disappointment. The trip was $200AUS per person and was a waste of the money but most importantly our previous vacation time. Hamilton Island is beautiful and worth a shuttle out to see it at less than $30AUS but the the trip we booked claimed to provide the use of facilities and pool of the Yatch Club which was closed. The beaches are not swimable this time of year without a stinger suit which was not provided for this leg. The lunch a Popeys Fish and Chips provided a very generous amount of fish but it seemed precooked and pretty tasteless. The trip to Whitehaven should have been the highlight but due to unfavourable winds we were landed at Chance Cove which given the huge number of fabulous beaches in the area was a strange choice- absolutely nothing to recommend it- small and unremarkable in any respect. They didn't even take us past the iconic beach we paid for. they provided a BBQ of fried hot dogs and fried onions that they could have just as easily done without. Major disappointment.

Breathtaking view and plenty of time to swim
Breathtaking day tour at the beautiful Withsundays. In fact, it's a ferry to Daydream Island and Hamilton Island, but they also offer half day and day tours to Whitehaven Beach. On this tour, you will see the north end of Whitehaven with the breathtaking lookout onto the white Beach. You can swim there and after that, you will board a watertaxi directly to Whitehaven Beach. There's lunch and plenty of time to enjoy and swim before getting back to Airlie Beach. We had Redman as our tourguide, he's friendly and knows much about the Island. Thanks again!

Transfer from Proserpine airport to Hamilton Island
We booked a transfer from Proserpine Airport (PPP) to Hamilton Island for a party of 4 adults. We were upgraded to private transfer in a comfortable mini van. Jenny our driver was amazing with her knowledge of the area and also gave us a quick tour of Airlie Beach. The booking process was quick and easy even with confirmation/follow up, as we left out information on the original booking. The team at the PPP airport and Jenny were all very professional.

      Very Comfortable [and large] Boat
Went on the 1/2 day Hamilton Island cruise. Very modern and large boat which meant the trip over to Hamilton Island was smooth. Good mod cons. Spent the day touring Hamilton Island with their free shuttle bus service. One bus goes from east to west and the other from north to south. Worth having a look around the island.

Absolutely incredible experience. I don't know how but it actually exceeded my expectations. You really can't put into words what it's like to sleep underwater with the fish and turtles.

Compared to other places in the world this was a very affordable experience and if you're thinking about going I recommend 100% that you do it!

I want to thank Leah our host who was very beautiful and provided us with excellent customer service and hospitality. She deserves a promotion! The chef's food was excellent too and he came to say hello and see how we were which was nice.

The snorkelling was absolutely unreal. I feel really sad just thinking about how I'm not there anymore. The coral is amazing the reef is amazing the fishies are plenty and then there were so many turtles too!

The reef trip on the ferry boat there is 3 hrs and it actually goes pretty fast. There was a lovely senior staff woman with long blonde curly hair who was absolutely very nice and fun and provided excellent customer service. Also a young man with brown hair. However that's where the compliments end.

To management I would like to say thank you for an incredible stay and trip that my friend and I will cherish forever.

I am sorry to have to add, there was quite a few young staff on the boat to and from the reef that were less than amiable. One girl did not smile at all and when she came over to us actually made us feel uncomfortable because she looked so angry. And this was both on the way there and back with 2 days in between. There were other young boys that were also unhelpful when we asked questions and just looked like they didn't want to be there.

After experiencing such good service from the Leah and the other 2 staff members it was a real contrast to see the younger staff blatantly not care.

I did not want to tarnish this review in regards to the experience but just wanted to pass along to management that maybe those staff need some training.

We did the Reefsuites in December and it is an exceptional experience. Our host Abby took great care of us and the meals we had from Chef Mario was of the highest quality.

From the moment you get on the boat to Hardy Reef you are made to feel welcome. The activities are all enjoyable and recommended but the absolute joy is when the day trippers depart (at 3.00pm) and only you, the remaining crew and a small posse of other guests remain.

You can watch the amazing sunset over a drink and canapes, marvel at the stunning night sky into the evening and be mesmerised by the reef life from the underwater windows in your suite. We saw many large and small fish, a Turtle and the enormous Groper that hangs around Reefworld.

In the morning enjoy, a brilliant sunrise, more great food and crowd free snorkelling, whilst experiencing that bittersweet feeling of shortly having to return to the real world.

The Reefsuites are relatively new and in great condition, the air conditioning is very comfortable and a welcome retreat from the heat of the day. Beer, water, wine and ciders are included in the Reefsuite package along with Mario's magnificent meals. We did the scuba diving which is extra.

The other overnight guests also had glowing reports that the above deck Reefsleep experience was amazing. The group we shared the experience with were a good bunch and the overnight crew are very engaging and helpful.

An incredible experience if you like fish. We have dived and snorkelled extensively in many countries, so the idea of snorkelling off a tourist pontoon was not a drawcard for us, but the idea of spending a night in an underwater hotel room with floor to ceiling glass, even in the bathroom, and more glass in the floor -- certainly was a drawcard. And it did not disappoint.

Be sure you get the "reef suite" and not the "reef sleep", as they are substantially different. Three hour trip out from Airlie with 100 randoms who then spend a couple of hours splashing around the pontoon, then they thankfully depart back to the mainland and you have the place to yourself. The staff are amazing, the food is plentiful and of good quality, and the drinks flow freely. But you won't want to leave your room, and watch the daytime fish get replaced with the nighttime GTs and their various moods that change minute by minute, and the lurking presence of a 1.75 metre Qld Grouper and his little 1.5m friend.

This is an experience best suited to people who don't sleep soundly, because you'll want to keep waking again and again throughout the night to see what's going on.

There are two suites, each just like a compact hotel room and *very* nicely appointed, given they are under the water. There are also a dozen tents on deck, but tbh I think it's well worth just paying the extra and doing it properly.

In the morning, after a great breakfast, some snorkel time, and some morning tea, the boat returns with more punters ready to have a thrash around in the water. But you're having lunch somewhere separate and then get back on the boat to head back to land.

Basically, the flow is: 3hrs on the boat in transit, 4hrs with randoms thrashing the water snorkelling in lifejackets, 20hrs of sane serenity on the pontoon spending as much time in your room as possible or snorkelling in peace, 4 hrs of randoms and 3hr boat trip. The "busy time" on the pontoon is the price of admission, and once the boat departs the vibe completely changes.

    This is a unique experience.

Not sure how anyone could give this experience anything but 5/5 it was perfect in every way. My son and I were lucky to stay in the Reef Suites last weekend and it definitely had the WOW factor. So many fish swimming past constantly, comfy bed, temperature a little cool but that was fixed easily with a jumper and recommend ear plugs as I am a very light sleep and I could hear the swish of the water on the side of the walls. The food was absolutely delicious and there was a constant supply - you will not go hungry. We also did the helicopter 10 min ride which I totally recommend, seeing the reef from above is just breath taking. The staff especially Michelle were so friendly and helpful, and my 11 year old had the best time ever. The snorkelling is so good and this time of year (March) the water temperature was perfect. Anyone thinking of doing this definitely do, you will not be disappointed.

We stayed overnight in a Reef Suite and what a once in a life time experience this was. The weather was very bad on our first day with rain and wind on arrival to the pontoon. It was miserable. We were led immediately down to our Reef Suite on arrival and were blown away. The bed was super comfy and the room although smallish was perfectly fine and you could move around easily. The bathroom had the best loo with a view as did the shower. You just need to be mindful that the day trippers and everyone can snorkel in the area of you windows and although not many did snorkel near us we did encounter some that chose to snorkel further away. You just don't want to be caught in an uneasy situation. There are blinds in the room and bathroom for those who choose to use them for privacy. We opted not to as we had paid the money to have the under water view and figured two nearly 60 year olds if they looked it would only be one time LOL. The food was 10/10. Shaun our chef was amazing. You will not go hungry. So much food and it was all of a high standard. The staff are quite busy while all the day trippers are there but once the boat leaves to take them all back you have the pontoon to yourself along with all the other overnighters. There was only 6 of us the night we stayed. It is very intimate and wonderful to have peace and quiet and snorkel once the day trippers have left. Staff wait on you hand and foot and after a big day in the water and full bellies after dinner we all retired early at 8:30pm. My husband and i loved sitting on our bed with the blue underwater light and watching all the fish in their natural environment and were lucky to watch "George" the massive 3 metre Groper swim back and forth by our windows for over 7hrs, sometimes with his girlfriend and heaps of his fish friends. In the morning after a full buffet breakfast we had our "private" Snorkel Safari with "Charlie" who took us floating in the current over the reef explaining all about the fish and coral. You have all morning to chill and snorkel or dive (if arranged) before the next day trippers arrive at 11:00am. Once we checked out of our Reef Suite at 09:30am we were taken upstairs with our luggage to the top of the pontoon to the "Reef Sleep" Exclusive Area (only people that stayed overnight are allowed in this area) where we spent the rest of the day, and was served lunch until it was time to leave at 3pm. If you can afford the $1,095 per person then do it. We had the best time even with a day of terrible weather. You wont regret it.

We booked over 12 months ago and paid in full to experience the reef suite for a special occasion. We were informed 12 hours prior that it had been cancelled due to industrial action being taken by staff. We were beyond disappointed and quite frankly gobsmacked that a company as large as @journeybeyond which owns Cruise Whitsundays, could deliver such sub standard results for their customers. Failed miserably ! We would never trust our dream holiday to them again. Definitely would NOT RECOMMEND.

We wholeheartedly apologise for having to cancel your Reefsuite booking. Knowing that this experience was meant to be a special occasion for you only adds to our regret. As you know, we are currently facing operational challenges because of some of our crew members participating in industrial action. This has led to a shortage of critically skilled personnel, preventing us from fulfilling our commitment to provide a safe and truly once-in-a-lifetime experience. We want you to know that your feedback is incredibly valuable to us, and we are putting in every effort to overcome these challenges and enhance our reliability. We genuinely hope that you can consider giving us another opportunity in the future, as we are dedicated to delivering the exceptional service you rightly deserve.

We have done a lot of “experiences” and this would have to be the best.
Service was impeccable, food was outstanding, snorkeling was amazing especially once all the day trippers left we had the entire reef to ourselves. We only had 6 other people with us so it made it extra special. The under water suite that we booked was first class and the fish life was mesmerising. For us this isn’t going to be a “once in a lifetime” bucket list item it will be a yearly visit that needs to be experienced over and over again. Thanks to all the staff that contributed to a wonderful 2 days.
Photos do not do this suite justice. Book the reef suite rather than the reef sleep you will not regret it.

Absolutely gutted! Payed a lot of money for this experience and waited a long long time, only to find out two days before travel our trip is cancelled because the staff are on strike. We Booked and locked in the date 9 months in advance! The agent on the phone breaking the news to us said they had been in negotiations for a while which means they could have organised contingency plans or let us know prior to us booking flights accommodations etc! Zero compassion shown by agent on the phone no offer of compensation or even another booking option, when requesting our full refund told would take 7-10 days. Completely unacceptable and unprofessional will never try to do this experience again. Extremely frustrated and dissatisfied customer, would highly NOT recommend this company to anyone ever! Also the fact your staff are striking indicates they must be getting treated horribly onboard this vessel. Do better!

We are truly sorry for the disappointment and inconvenience that this cancellation has caused you. As a business, we pride ourselves on sharing special places and shaping lasting memories and we are saddened that we could not deliver on this due to the extreme measures taken by the Maritime Union Australia (MUA). Negotiation for the new agreement have been ongoing for months. The notice of protected action was not advised to management until days ago and was something as business we were hoping the new proposed agreements could avoid. We can assure you that every avenue was explored prior to making the heartbreaking decision to cancel. Unfortunately, due to potential ongoing protected action unfortunately there were no there options available to us to offer to our displaced guests.

It doesn't get any better than this. Not only is the Reefsuite an amazing underwater experience - complete with blue lighting into the ocean so that you can watch the reef go about its business - but the staff are also ready to provide the best possible hospitality. The food is top quality, prepared by Sebastian, a French chef and no detail for our comfort was overlooked.

My husband and I were blown away by the experience. Snorkeling and seeing a groper hang out near our room was definitely memorable. Staff were super friendly and assisted our snorkels. Special thanks to Michelle for the hospitality and Sebastian the absolutely amazing chef who overfed us!
