About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Curiosity395188040580 contributionsBelow average yourHonestly very dissapointed. I did alot of research about which company to go with and I have used cruise whitsundays before and had pleasant experience. Firstly , you spend approx 4 hours travelling , waste so much time I understand airlie isnt close but so unnecessary going to hamilton island on the way and on the way back , perhaps you could do airlie first on the way back to make it fairer as hamilton guests spend way less time on the boat and essentially use it just as a taxi . We had a “ mechanical engine issue “ about half way out to the reef. Do you think they told us anything ? NO. My partner was sea sick and freezing cold wanting to move to sit elsewhere and we were told as if we were children that the seat belt sign was on and we couldn’t move , ridiculous as we were stuck NOT MOVING . We weren’t told anything about what was going on other than one announcement saying they had issues , as such we were delayed and instead of arriving at 11 we arrived at 12 although the staff said we were only 20 mins behind , don’t know where they got that math from !! We were treated like school children not being able to move I understand if it was a safety thing but be kind to your guests ! Particularly if they were unwell and freezing whilst being told to sit . Secondly Elise my goodness as the cruise “ officer” she was appalling . I have never met someone so rude when looking after guests she clearly was stressed but being kind and reassuring would’ve gone a long way considering the issues had with the engine. Do not book with this company waste of time , they try and upsell you everything !! $30 for one single photo , $70 for “ guided snorkelling “ when we already paid $300 and they ran out of morning tea but kept rushing us to queue but when we got to the front they had run out ..Written 9 September 2024
- Julie P0 contributionsVery professional ServiceI cannot rate this company high enough, after staying on Daydream Island we went for a day trip over to Hamilton Island where hubby left his phone behind on a picnic table near the cruise reception. Some lovely person handed it in & contacted our daughter in Tassie who let us know it was missing - totally unaware at this stage. One phone call was all it took to the lovely lady at reservations in Airlie Beach and they arranged to send it over to Daydream on the next connecting ferry for hubby to pick up… so thankful for your fantastic service!! .. and the ferry trips where great too, very clean, professional and punctual😀Written 8 September 2024
- Badgersoutandabout0 contributionsA once in a lifetime day out! This was a fabulous day out! I ended up going solo as husband not well, so treated myself to the 10 min helicopter ride over Heart Reef - do staggeringly beautiful it made me cry! Initially 4 hours seemed a long time to be out there, but in the end I didn’t have time for the submersible! Not a confident snorkeller so signed up for the ‘guided safari’ and Amber was terrific, giving us almost an hour of fascinating snorkelling! Met some lovely friendly folk too. Thoroughly recommend.Written 6 September 2024
- 99johanr0 contributionsAmazing experienceAmazing experience to explore The Great Barrier Reef under the surface. The hotel pickup worked great with really friendly and professional drivers. The boat is big and stable so it handled even big waves quite smoothly. The Captain and the rest of the crew were skillful, helpful, knowledgeable and very friendly. The facilities on the boat as well as the Reef World platform were great. Wet suits, fins etc all well organized by sizes from where everyone could pickup the ones that fitted. We started by taking the semi-sub boat to explore the reef via the glass bottom of the boat. Already from there we could see many colorful fishes and the beautiful reef edge and got even more excited to go snorkeling 😉. After lunch, which was delicious, we jumped into the water for snorkeling🤿 . Such an underwater beauty all over the Hardy Reef and especially by the reef edge where the parrotfishes were eating corals🪸 so that you even could hear it 😉. Excellent snorkeling 👌We did two rounds of snorkeling, which was just about right timing, in my view. The boat ride home was also a smooth ride and when exiting the boat the whole crew were standing in a line, on shore, and greeting everybody. Excellent experience! Thank you! 🐟🐠🪸🎉Written 28 August 2024
- georgesa15070 contributionsBad certified dives.Very very sales focused. Food was good. The pontoon was floating over lots of bleached and damaged coral. I did the certified dive and one of the worst dives I've ever done. Given more weights than requested. All we saw was dead and broken coral and exact same as you would see when snorkelling. I don't recommend these certified dives off this pontoon. The entire cruise was spent trying to sell things and make money. Not as enjoyable as I would have hopedWritten 23 August 2024
- Gareth H0 contributionsExceeded Expectations! We were originally booked on another tour but they cancelled at the time of pickup on the morning citing minimum number not met and poor weather conditions...we were very dissapointed and moved to this booking as we left the next day. After reading reviews I was not expecting much but very quickly after boarding the boat I was impressed. Yes as others said you pickup on other islands but we quite enjoyed being on the boat as weather conditions were poor it was a good opportunity to see the area. We changed boat at Hamilton Island and felt from that point it was more tour like with the captain talking about what was around the area on either side. My daughter felt a little unwell and Brooke made her very comfortable with water, sick bag and an ice pack, she really went out of her way to make her feel better. She shared information about the island and was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. When we arrived at Whitehaven the weather improved and we had a great experience. The company offer equipment at the beach to use, there was no charge for this or stinger suits, and included paddle boards. There weren't huge amounts but enough to enjoy. On the beach we met Chloe from the company too who was also friendly and informative about the island. Brooke then fed the fish allowing us to see many types which my daughter thoroughly enjoyed and was again informative about the species. We boarded the boat and had a nice snack on the journey back including salami, olives, cheese, crackers and cake. If the weather had been better I would have wanted longer at the beach than two hours but we booked the half day tour so we were expecting that. Overall all the staff were fantastic, but specific mention to Brooke and Chloe who made us very welcome. I would recommend the company and the tour but if you want longer at the beach or to visit the reef then this isn't the tour for you. It was perfect for ourselves given the previous cancelled tour with a different operator and then exceeded our expectations.Written 13 August 2024
- susaneY9865QC0 contributionsTerrible servicewe booked with cruise whitsunday to do a half day Whitehaven beach tour in early July. We booked on the Wednesday of our stay for a Thursday half day trip and on the Wednesday night 3 members of our family became violently ill with food poisoning. We were told we could reschedule within a 5 day period but if we cancelled we lost our money ($500) but would be refused entry on the boat under health regulations if we tried to go. We rescheduled for the Friday. By 11am Friday we were still unwell and cancelled our tour. We tried to compromise with cruise whitsunday to get our money refunded but the took our $500 and ran. Absolutely disgusting service, no compassion under extreme circumstances and Absolutely no willingness to compromise. Never again.Written 2 August 2024
- Kgoesplaces0 contributionsStop the selling and tell people about the reefGreat day out but too much selling of extras during boat ride. Spend some more time on education and information about the reef, perhaps play a 20 minute video about the reef and its marine life rather than constant selling photos, helicopter rides, dives, snorkelling tours.... it was tiresome. Ran out of choc chip cookies. Staff member said they always run out. So stock more?? Some people lined up and missed out by the time they reached front of line.Written 22 July 2024
- 578rhiannac0 contributionsEasy but needs to be better organised for the numbers they takeIt is more than half a day from Airlie. You change boats at Hamilton Island. Boats are comfy. Took quite a long time for the one tender to take us off big boat to Whitehaven Beach. Suggest making sure you get on the first one, I was on the last and therefore didn’t get as much time on the beach/swim. They need a better system for providing afternoon tea. People pushed in for seconds before everyone had a chance at a first go.Written 17 July 2024
- Michele L0 contributionsCrappy booking experience and serviceTo preface, I didn’t get to experience this adventure, this is a review on my experience trying to enjoy it. I was SO excited for this experience, it looked awesome. I booked on trip advisor for 1 and was declined by the company with no response why. I tried again, again the tour was declined and cancelled (probably bc I’m 1?) Apparently I’m quite relentless and tried again through a 3rd company and yay, it went through. Except I forgot with all of the things going on planning travel, getting business and affairs in order and actually getting out there (I’m from the US so this was a massive 3 week work and play trip with a lot to organize around it). I didn’t receive any reminders so I just thought it was not meant to be and I was sad but went on enjoying other incredible experiences (if you’re in Whitsundays, def check out ocean raft company!! SO GOOD) Until I got a voice message from them they were boarding in 10 minutes and I was about to miss it / missed it. I was deeply upset so tried my best to see if I could reschedule until the next day (tomorrow) because they had openings. The person on the phone was pretty rude and not a lot of help. The woman I met in person was kind but the manager she consulted said they have availability but I have to talk to my tour company I booked through (get your guide) who also tried calling to help reschedule and they were again denied because even though they have availability tomorrow (quite a bit according to their booking site) they don’t offer last minute reschedules/rebooking under any circumstance. I’m very disappointed in my experience trying to resolve this although I know it was my ultimate error. I wish I’d known more was I was denied the first two times (likely Bc I’m 1 person) and why I couldn’t be rescheduled for 1 person on a day with availability. Instead tossed out and written off with a big financial loss. Total bummer.Written 12 July 2024
- F0zzie0 contributionsYOU HAVE TO DO THISWhat a wonderful experience at Reefsleep. To wake up to a stunning sunrise over the reef after a fantastic night at reefsleep is truly magical. - O4177DPchrisb0 contributionsSnorkeling at the Great Barrier ReefThoroughly enjoyed my experience at the Great Barrier Reef. Started the day being picked up at Airlie Beach. Our route took us to Hamilton Island for a second pickup before we were whisked away to the pontoon at Hardy Reef. Along the way we got some great views of the Whitsunday Islands and were even lucky to see some Whales. On the reef I took a whizz around the reef in the glass bottom boat (free) before doing my main activity which was a guided snorkel of the reef wall (about 89 AUD). The guide (Sunny) was very knowledgeable and informative about the reef and it was a great experience. I didn't opt to try the free snorkel area so can't comment. As an overall review, the activities were fun, food provided was good, it was a real experience. Downsides were it is a lot of sailing time (circa 3 hours out to the reef, 4 hours play time and 3 hours back) and the underwater photos, whilst good, were a bit expensive. I paid 91 AUD for 5 photos. They do offer a Go Pro that you can hire for the day and take as many pictures as you like for 80 AUD, this may have been a better option. Also should say as a first time snorkeller felt safe and taken care of throughoutWritten 23 June 2024
- emma b0 contributionsWorth every penny. You must do this in you’re in Airlie Beach or Hamilton Island. You won’t be disappointedA must do! We had to most memorable 2 days, a holiday of a lifetime! We couldn’t fault a thing at all. It was the highlight of our Australian trip so far. The staff are excellent, they can’t do enough for you. Being able to sleep under the stars and wake up to a beautiful sunrise was amazing. Once the day guests leave, you have the whole Pontoon to yourself. You certainly won’t go hungry, plenty of food and all drinks included from the moment you leave Airlie Beach. We did the Scuba Diving and the Heli Tour, both worth every penny. The dive team are so patient and lovely. They put you at ease. We saw hundreds of different fish. The Heli you get to fly over Heart Reef. The whole experience really is amazingWritten 18 June 2024

- griffinsatthebeach0 contributionsSimply Amazing!!What an amazing experience! Every second of being on this pontoon boat and their attentive staff was pretty awesome. The boat ride out to the stationary pontoon was tough. It was 2 hours from Hamilton Island and 3 from Arlie Beach, I believe. I was so glad we changed out depart and return location. I’m not sure I could have handled the extra hour. The staff on board seemed to have posts whereby they watched for sea sick riders and handed out and collected barf bags. The girl beside me was a bit green but held her bag and held her lunch. Once onboard the pontoon it was all superb! They escorted us to our suite. I immediately didn’t want to leave. But there was so much to do on deck and those activities wouldn’t be running in the evening. So we snorkeled out to the reef. We went on the glass sub. The underwater viewing room. We missed the helicopter ride. Those fill up quick so you must sign up on the boat ride out. The lunch for the masses on the boat was good. But after the crowd left and the reef suites and those sleeping in the tents on deck were treated like royalty. What an amazing experience! I slept maybe an hour total. The view out our window and glass floor were just stunning all night. The reef suite room was unbelievably well appointed and beautiful. We absolutely loved it! Worth every penny! We had AC and were dry. Those up on deck went through periods of rain and then being too hot. But they said they enjoyed it as well. Great experience!Written 25 May 2024

Very enjoyable day of sailing. Crew of The Camira were very welcoming, friendly and organised. Plenty of food and drinks on board. Stinger suits provided. Whitehaven beach beautiful but very hot with little shade available. Best to travel here during May to October when it is not so humid and the water is free of stingers. Sunscreen and water is imperative as limited shade is available on the boat as well. Overall, a great way to spend a day in Airlie beach!

I have been on this trip once before and it was great and wanted to share it with my partner which lived up to my hyping reviews on how good it was before and went beyond my expectations. The many meals were incredible and the all inclusive beer, wine and cider was a big bonus!! But the overall best part of the trip was the amazing crew who made it that bit extra special. They had found out that it was my birthday and did little cake slices with candles and the boat sang happy birthday. They had run out of little plush turtles and Big Red was not having it, so when we got back to port he ran to the reception to grab me one before we all left the boat for the day. The Camira is one of the best day trips I’ve been on to date, being able to chill out on the sailing boats front trampoline nets, listening to some chilled out music and having some cheeky alcoholic beverages. When we come back to Airlie Beach you can bet we will be booking another trip and telling anyone and everyone to go on this trip. Thank you again to the Camira crew, Bing Bong Bing Bong 🤙🏼

Massive shout out to Emily at the Cruise Whitsundays office for helping organise a trip out on Camira for group of 25 people - fabulous service and she made sure everything ran perfectly for us. Give that girl a pay rise!
Great day on the water, Camira is just the perfect chilled day out with a nice balance of sail and beach time. Thank you to Luca and the other staff on the boat for being a big reason our day was brilliant.
Unfortunately there is no buffet on the boat atm due to the corona restrictions - however if you indulge in the free bar it makes the packed lunch more bearable!

Glad we did this trip. I was slightly nervous at first it was going to be an 18-30's loud drunk trip but it catered for all. The skipper and crew were really great and kept you fully informed and looked after.
When ever whales were spotted they slowed and explained about what they were, the migration and feeding. We were lucky enough to see a mum with a very young calf on the surface.
The food was great and plenty of it. They boast a bottomless Esky which one man took to extreme. He started smack at 10 am and returned pretty much every 15 mins of the trip. His language was foul as was his belching and vommiting. If there was one tip for making this trip ever better is maybe try to monitor slightly better the consumption of alcohol. Maybe vouchers per person and once your vouchers are gone you have to ask crew for more.
I highly recommend this trip, we were just unlucky to get someone who went for the beer and not the sights. He didn't even. Get off the boat at Whitehaven.
Thank you crew.

Was an excellent day and the food was exceptional. Most of the crew were fantastic.
A couple of negatives were:
1) Because of Covid no snorkelling - which I fully appreciate but the bar opened at 10am . Normally I wouldn’t have an issue with this but some needed to drink “their fill” for the day which wasn’t necessary. Have a 3 limit voucher system per person.
2) one crew member needed to be a “show pony” which I didn’t appreciate, standing at the helm and steering with his feet while the skipper had a short break. Then allowing an intoxicated young female to do the same, not cool.
The boat was a little worn but was an excellent day all the same.

Fantastic day out with lots of exhilarating sailing - we hit 23 knots and averaged about 18 knots, so was great fun. The crew were friendly, knowledgeable and engaging, and did their absolute best to ensure everyone had a good time despite the Covid-19 restrictions around having to serve the food individually rather than buffet. It was so good to sit back and chill with unlimited rinks as we scooted back to port in the afternoon. Oh, and finally fulfilled one of our bucket list wishes to spend time on Whitehaven Beach - certainly lives up to its reputation!. A must do trip....

We booked a full day Camira catamaran cruise around the Whitsundays in early November. We were informed the wind was in a strong northerly direction which would make a good sail but choppy seas. It was not 100% certain we would be able to stop at Whitehaven beach until later on. The crew were very helpful, professional and fun. We stopped for a snorkel which was safely conducted albeit with choppy seas care was needed to negotiate in and out of the dingy tender! The captain informed us we could get to the Whitehaven beach but again care was needed on and off the tender. The crew again were extremely kind and helpful to assist me getting out and back safely. The beach was stunning and I am so pleased I got to see it. Food and drink on board were very good and there was a lovely mixture of ages and a good atmosphere. Thanks to all especially Amber, Alison and Max.

Not great weather but it didn’t matter - the catamaran handled beautifully and the skipper and crew were terrific, always checking if we needed/wanted anything. We seemed to be eating all day including fresh prawns with BBQ lunch. Beer, wine, cider, soft drink and water all included. We still managed to do everything even with wind and rain. Loved when the sail went up, so peaceful.
The crew love their jobs which makes for a fun day for everyone.

The journey and staff was 2nd to none, in terms of planning and letting customers know what was happening. The food, drinks, etc was great!! Inclusion of young / small humans in making announcements was a good touch and the music suited most people. It did get very cold due to conditions between 8.30am and 11.30am, despite being told to bring warm clothing, etc, perhaps a few thermofleece blankets (like at restaurants when it's really unseasonably cold ??).... could be offered?? A very enjoyable day - all people were respectful and the staff were great. Thank you Max for your work on the tender and also talking to us about the impact of cyclones on the Whitsundays!!

We travelled on the Camira Purple Boat tour on November 16th. Before getting into the meat of the review, I just wanted to point out the unfortunate negatives first.
1. When we checked in at the check-in desk at Port Airlie, we were informed that due to strong northerly winds, there was a chance we may not make it onto Whitehaven Beach (the reason we booked the tour in the first place).
(It was disappointing to be informed of this within an hour of departure, as this was the only reason we booked this tour, and so the day started off on a poor note).
*these winds only happen 10% of the year, according to a crew member*
2. During our approach to Whitehaven Beach, the captain told us that they were going to “give it a go” with stopping on the north side of the beach, which excited all of us. 10 minutes later, the captain informed us that they’d changed their minds and that we weren’t going to make it onto Whitehaven. This sucked.
This sounds like a negative review, but it’s not, as though we didn’t make it onto Whitehaven (though we were led to believe so), we still had one of the best boat trips of our lives.
First and foremost, props to the crew who were spectacular, through how helpful and funny they were. They made what could have been a pretty good day out into a fantastic one, and that was all down to how they made everyone feel throughout the trip.
Tea, coffee, beer and soft drinks were kept nice and cold on eskis throughout the day, whilst the food on offer was truly delicious and a real highlight.
Though not making it onto Whitehaven was a shame, the alternative spot of Chance Bay was beautiful (though a bit busy), and probably one of the best beaches you’ll find.
By the end of the day, we were chilling in the sun on a boat ride back to Airlie, downing cold drinks like it was no one’s business, and we realised that regardless of whether we made it onto Whitehaven, we still had a brilliant day out, and that was thanks to the team on the Camira Purple Boat.
I’d recommend this trip and this team to anyone.

How long roughly is the snorkel time during the day?
how long at whitehaven beach?
thanks

We had about an hour of snorkelling and about 2 hours on Whitehaven. From what I hear they can be flexible with things but it’s more than enough for both. Snorkelling was great but it was frustrating and saddening seeing some people trying to stand on the Corals.

Hi, I would like to know the full day itinerary for this trip, specially the activities and how much time will be provided for each activity. Also, the spots where we will be sailing through or stopping at.

Hi,
I cannot give you a full itinerary. They sail out around 8.45 in the morning. A good part of the morning is spent on sailing. They make a stop at a reef for those who want to snorkel. No more than 1 hour. Then it is on to the island of Whitehaven. The boat drops the guests at the opposite side of the famous beach, and a guide takes the group to the other side. Along the way you will climb up to the crest of the hills on the island, and visit three photo spots. You end up at the beach, where you will spend no more than an hour. Then it is back to the boat, where BBQ is being prepared. After that, the boat makes the long trip back. Arrival is around 19.00.
