        Amazing tour
I highly recommend the tour! The crew was very kind and helpful, clear on the instructions. There’s plenty of food during the day. The boat is so beautiful and Whitehaven is a must, outstanding beach, I have no words to describe. You should go. Don’t forget to pass sunscreen and that’s all.

        Don’t do this excursion.
I have never left a review on anything, ever. I am easy to please. The captain on this cruise was horrible. I think he is new to tourism. He has to be. While Whitehaven beach was wonderful, the lack of interest by him in everything a tour should encompass was surreal, laughable, if not dangerous. Until this crew turns over, don’t bother with this excursion. I hope the owner of the vessel reads this review.

Day trip sailing around Whitsundays - 80% engine cruising, 20% sightseeing.
Whitehaven beach and Hill inlet are uniquely beautiful and seeing them is worth taking any trip. That said, the trip with Providence V may not be the best choice. The trip lasted 9 hours, of which 7 were spent on the boat - the remaining 2 were split between 2 stops: 1.5h for Whitehaven beach/Hill inlet and 0.5h for snorkeling. The 7 hours spent on the boat were quite boring - some sunbathing, snacks and limited views; also NO SAILING - the entire journey was engine-based (the boat wouldn’t have made it on time by sail, as it is not really geared to sail with moderate wind and is just a downsized replica of an old ship). The 2 hours spent sightseeing were rather rushed and we would have preferred to spend double the time to really enjoy the stops. Also, note that this tour visits the North end of Whitehaven beach (apparently also known as Betty’s beach), not the main strip. See below the operators reply to our remarks: “Whitehaven Beach is 7km long, and we categorise the beach into two ends - the South end, and the North end (which is also known as Bettys Beach). The North end of Whitehaven Beach, also known as Bettys Beach, is where Hill Inlet is located, and where a lot of the Whitehaven Beach day tours visit. It is still part of the famous Whitehaven Beach with those pure silica white sands. The owner of the vessel did advise that in the morning there were no winds which did not allow for any sailing time.”

        Sailing at sunset
Just a few words on the beautiful sail we had on the Providence at sunset in Airlie QLD. Our hosts Jarrah and Luke looked after us with food and drinks while our captain guided us across the harbour. We enjoyed 2hrs of sunset bliss. What a beautiful place Airlie Beach is. Thanks Providence, job well done

We had a fantastic day out with Oscar and Andy. They were fantastic as was the food served. We thought the boat looked a bit tired and could do with some TLC. Apart from that it was a wonderful adventure.

        Whitsundays Sailing Review
The views were amazing, the other passengers were friendly- the crew was great - the only disappointing feature was that there was only one sail up - the others were being repaired- I wanted to experience a sailing trip - I think you should be told this before going.

A beautiful and serene sailing experience with a friendly crew and caring captain on a great looking boat with fantastic view of the sunset over the Airlie Beach hills. Sailing on board the Providence is a treat. Take your date with you. You will not regret it.

        Beautiful and fun sunset cruise
We had a lovely evening cruising around the Whitsundays on the Providence - my husband even got to help with raising the sails. Great captain and mate, champagne and beer available, a tasty cheese platter and lovely views. What more could you ask for?

        Mixed Feelings
We were warned that we would get wet on this trip as the weather was windy, leading to chopping sea conditions. We didn't just get wet though, we were soaked right through to our core (underwear and all). It was as if we were on a comedy show and someone kept throwing buckets of ice-cold water in our faces. Only once we were soaking wet and freezing, were we offered raincoats by the crew, however it was far too late. The trip felt rushed - there didn't seem to be much time on Whitehaven - just enough to get to the lookout and back down for a quick look at the beach and then we had to head back to the boat - not even enough time to get dry from our trip out. We were held up at the beach by another couple from our group trying to catch a ride home with other boat crews as they wanted to stay longer at Whitehaven (they were also quite miffed with how wet they got). Snorkeling felt like a disaster, too choppy for me and not a lot of instruction if you were trying snorkeling for the first time. Although I literally stayed in the ocean 5 minutes, the time for others in the water seemed short. The idea of this sailing boat was much better than reality for us on the particular day. I'm SO glad we didn't take our 7 and 4 year old on this trip, it would have been dangerous given how choppy it was and how much we were getting thrown around.

        Sunset cruise
Very enjoyable sunset cruise on the providence. Staff were friendly & approachable. Great atmosphere. Only negative - only one platter of nibbles provided which was hard to get to if you weren’t sitting close by. Maybe several smaller platters placed around the deck would be easier for guests. Thankyou !

This was advertised as a sailing trip. The motor was never turned off, and the headsail was only up for less than an hour, while the motor continued to run.

The brochure states that stinger suits are included in the price, but everyone was charged $10 each, cash, prior to departure. We did a number of snorkeling tips in Cairns and Airlie, and all the other tour operators provided stinger, or wet suits free.

Boat was old and in need of maintenance, especially the toilet. Lunch consisted of a chicken wrap. Much better value elsewhere

Hi Andrew Thanks for your review. We do provide stinger suits in season free of charge for health reasons. Wetsuits are available for hire at $10 pp as we have someone who runs that business looking after the care of the wetsuits and this is advertised on our website and on tickets. Providence is undergoing her annual maintenance. Lunch includes the wrap and frittata which is accompanied by morning tea with home made brownies and fresh fruit in the afternoon. If the winds are not favourable we do have to motor but take every opportunity to put up the sails. Thanks for finding time to review us.

This was disappointing. We booked this sailing cruise as it was advertised as a luxury, romantic, intimate tour. That’s not what we experienced.

When we got into the boat I noticed it was not in as good condition as the photos and the seating options were limited to old cushions on branch seats. It was also crowded, with everyone sitting down we were touching shoulders with other passengers.

We were rushed out of the harbour with the engines on and given half a donut/muffin for “morning tea”.

Then crowded in while the captain told us the plan for day and promptly informed us that we wouldn’t be stopping long as he had to get back for his sunset cruise.

After taking a very crowded trip on a dingy to and from Whitehaven Beach we were all starving and given “lunch” which was a cold wrap with a lot of lettuce and a little bit of cold chicken and literally nothing else. We were then told that there was no hot water left for tea and coffee and charged for a can of drink and served a fruit platter from a Tupperware container.

At no point during the day did the engines go off, we didn’t do any sailing - due to the fact that he had a deadline and didn’t have time to slow down at all. We also saw some whales that were having an amazing little play but motored right past them without even slowing - again due to the tight deadline.

During the tour the two staff sat at the back of the boat vaping and played some music including some heavy metal / EDM which is not really the vibe for that kind of tour. There was no communication about any of the local landmarks or “learning the ropes” as described.

Also we hired wetsuits from a local shop which was recommended by the tour, they told us to leave the suits on the boat as they are closed. When we politely said we were leaving them the skipper said “no what are we mean to do with it”. We ended up having to take them home with us and come back the next day to drop them off.

Overall I feel that the tour was over advertised and it felt like a budget group tour not a romantic relaxing sailing tour.

I’ve read some other reviews saying the same thing and they have been responded to by the owners very negatively, this is not a review meant to attack the company but they should seriously consider taking on the feedback given to them regarding the food and customer service. Most of the website photos don’t even resemble the actual boat we went on.

Thanks for your review and I can assure you we certainly take any feedback seriously. We are in the process of changing caterers and you should have received frittata and a wrap for lunch. The skipper is filling in and may not have known the issue with the wetsuits and will talk to him about this. And certainly sailing is what we do and there should have been sails put up. We also do not allow crew to smoke or 'vape' onboard and we have spoken to them about this as well as the choice of music. We do have two boats and we have never described Providence V as 'luxury' - MiLady our overnight yacht is in that category. Providence V is a traditional tallship. It's a shame you did not enjoy your day and thanks for providing feedback.

The brochure suggets this is a tall ship, so we thought we were going sailing. How wrong could we be, Skipper Peter was a cranky, rude man and told us he did not like putting up the sails. So we spent the day with the noisy motor and smelly diesel fumes. Well if we would have know that we would have taken the bullet.
There were 21 people on this boat squeesed in like sardines, snorkel and goggles broken, holes in our stinger suits. Come to lunch well we ran out and I was given a salad in a bowel with a teaspoon to eat it with.
There was no fun to have on this cruise you would have thought we were at a funeral.
With Covid they were handing out brownies and quiche with a pair of tonges which touched every persons hands???
Skipper Peter was also rude to little Daisy who tried her best but was run off her feet, while he was at the back smoking????????
All the years I have been travelling Australia and taking day trips like this there is no doubt this was the worst.
Saying that Whitehaven was beautiful, just wish we had experienced with a better company.

Thanks for your review and we have followed up with the skipper. Rudeness is not acceptable. The crew usually take any opportunity they can to hoist the sails if the wind is favourable as that's why they work for us. I just wanted to correct a few things, however. There were 19 passengers on the day you sailed, not 21 and we are in survey for 24 and operate a Covid Safety Plan which is why morning tea is served and not on a platter and our lunches all individually wrapped and served out. On the issue of lunch, upon checking with the crew that day, apparently you were said you had ordered a vegan meal but there was no dietary requirements on your booking. Daisy offered you her lunch as she is vegetarian which you refused. So we certainly did not run out of lunch as you assert. Also as I picked you up on the bus that day, I would have hoped when I asked you how your day had been, which I always do, that you may have discussed your concerns and raised any issues which you did not. Can I suggest this may have been helpful in correcting and addressing your concerns rather than resorting to a grumpy review?

This trip should have been cancelled with the conditions on the day. If they are experienced providers I’m sure they were well aware prior with all the weather apps available prior to setting off knowing the imminent weather approaching. No duty of care taken prior as to required clothing. We were under motor for the entire trip (9hrs), NO sailing, the tide was so rough and there was a storm & it poured rain on the way home. Enough rain jackets for about 10 passengers (6 were ripped and broken) where full wet weather gear (pants incl.) was definitely required for everyone. The crew had full wet weather gear on pretty much the whole way. This small gesture would have made it bearable and maybe we could have enjoyed it. We were soaked to the skin, it was cold and incredibly windy. We were not told to bring anything to keep us warm, they hired wetsuits and most left them on the whole day as they were body shaking with the cold. It was downright dangerous conditions. It would have taken one or two to slide over for a disaster to unfold.
My summary: It was like being on the worst ride at the theme park non stop for 8hrs in the rain & wind in a summer dress. Arrrgghhh!
Def money grab from the tourists. So disappointed 😞 We tried to discuss it with the owner after but he wasn’t interested.

PS interesting as they say full refund if cancelled due to weather conditions in their fine print! Also now looking at reviews (wish I looked before booking) this occurrence seems to be a regular one. Obviously they don't care!

Thanks for your review. This seems to be a similar review to your partners' review earlier. I was driving the bus that day and you boarded dressed in summer shorts and t-shirt. We are quite prescriptive in our advice on our terms and conditions - as it is winter in the Whitsundays - to wear warm clothing. We are under no obligation to provide wet weather gear and as a perpetual traveller, I would always prepare for whatever activities I had engaged in. To venture forth on a sailing boat when, yes the conditions were windy but certainly not dangerous as you describe, is foolhardy. To expect, when rain had been forecast that we are obliged to give you wet weather gear is also less than adviseable. I have been on boat trips in Tasmania when the weather was also extremely cold and windy and wet and would certainly not have expected to be provided with clothing by the operator. The crew are certainly not in wet weather gear. And probably the best kind of countering to your accusations is the wonderful reviews we had from exactly the same trip from other passengers. It seemed, from the point of view of our crew, that you were argumentative and determined to make the trip as less enjoyable as possible including sounding off to other guests. So we are advising as travellers that you and your partner are better prepared in future if you go out on a sailing boat. On the motoring aspect, again lack of experience may have influenced your views. Sails were up on the day but not all the sails were up that day due to the winds and so we also needed the motor.

On the surface Providence sailing looks like a great day on the water however they need to follow their own policy statement which says

“This experience requires good weather. If it’s cancelled due to poor weather, you’ll be offered a different date or a full refund“

And cancel the trip when it 25 knots on the nose and raining!
As they have a no refund policy if they run you go or lose your money.

My fiancée described our trip well “the worst ride at whitewater world that you had to stay on for 8 hours.
It is a very wet boat in choppy conditions and the wet weather gear provided was poor! Cheap plastic raincoats with torn sleeves and not enough to go around.
Pretty sure they don’t read their reviews because nothing seems to heave been improved.
I wish I had read the reviews and not just booked from the brochure

Sorry you had some windy weather which we have had recently in the Whitsundays - still quite safe for sailing. We do read the reviews and do take on board any issues raised. We do recommend jackets and warm clothes in winter as even in the tropics it can get cold especially on the water. We supply the raincoats - which rest assured we are awaiting another order - as an extra in case people don't bring jackets. Our reviews are positive usually and we take our guests' needs as a high priority - returning prescription glasses left on board; ensuring everyone's needs are met and all of our crew do care. I'm sorry you did not enjoy your experience.

I very specifically asked for a sailing trip so was told by the Tourist Information agent this was the boat to go on.
However on boarding this old boat with only 2 crew members and no winches it was clear that there was going to be no sailing despite good winds.
Had I wanted to motor all the way to Whitehaven Beach, which I most certainly didn’t, I would not have chosen an open boat with no protection from the waves, wind or sun for a 9 hour trip. We sat on the deck all day without any back support, everyone got wet and most people were shivering for the last hour on the outward trip because they were so cold and wet. Because they were so cold some people decided not to snorkel but they didn’t miss anything because the coral is dead where we snorkeled and not many fish so we only spent a very short time snorkeling.
We motored for the whole day which was noisy and smelly and very disappointing.
Lunch was a wrap and a slice of quiche.
The trip is advertised as a sailing trip but IMO with limited crew and no winches that was never going to happen so I consider that to be false advertising.
If you want to sail make sure you choose a boat that’s well manned or better equipped

Hi Helen This review sounds identical to the other review below and I have responded to this already. The crew are quite able to hoist sails. We don’t use modern winches which may be your previous experience and we have been operating the vessel with two crew for fifteen years. We do not agree with the comment about false advertising. Just apart from anything else it make absolute economic sense to use the sails not the engine but as I don’t have your full name or date you sailed, I cannot give you the reasons why the skipper chose not to (or find out whether) he did put the sails up that day.

A slightly disappointing trip. We had originally booked another ship, but the day before was told it was cancelled due to an essential part not being delivered in time meaning the boat was unable to sail…some notice on this would have been nice as we were then rushing to secure an alternative option at 5pm whilst offices were closing.

On the day, the staff were lovely (included 1 trainee) and tried hard to keep guests happy, but the overall vibe was pretty miserable as the day went on.

We got on board and struggled to find a seat -for our 9 hour ‘cruise’. There were 23 people which in our opinion is almost 10 people too many. Not as advertised with people laying down on the benches. We were given a brief introduction from the captain who didn’t seem very happy to be there. He mentioned we were able to grab a mouldy rain jacket that holes in to keep us dry. No where is it mentioned how wet you get and without spare dry clothes, we were all sat wet for the 2.5 hour journey to the beach.

The food was quite basic, nice sandwiches but simple store bought cupcakes and banana bread for morning tea.

      Overall we wouldn’t recommend

A lovely day trip on the boat which was a beauty in itself. The crew were awesome- very friendly and helpful.
Would have probably preferred something other than cold quiche as afternoon snack- maybe a hot drink and some crackers and dips would have been better. But still enjoyed the day with an amazing trip to Whitehaven beach and a nice snorkelling adventure.

We both had an awesome day, even with the sunburn in the morning and torrential rain on the way back. Skipper Ryan and daisy were friendly, funny and knowledgeable about everything sailing and whitsundays, with useful tips and suggestions throughout the day and a lighthearted way to discuss the warnings that come with Queensland climate, snorkelling and sailing.
Lindsay and Grant, the owners, are fabulous and easy to talk to on the pick up and drop off to our hotel.
Possibly would have liked to do the hike to the lookout before any snorkelling/swimming to stop the salt water chafing on my legs, but that was my bad for poor choice of clothing.
All in all we had a great day and enjoyed every minute of it!

Thanks Jessica and appreciate your kind review. You are right the Queensland climate can be challenging but you had the right approach for sure. And it was great to meet you both.

Had a really fabulous day out sailing on providence. Peter and Oscar were just lovely, informative and entertaining. The weather conditions were not the best but Peter made sure we were able to do the snorkeling and visit Whitehaven beach. The walk up to the lookout was easy and the views amazing!! The weather turned on the way back but it was superb to feel the waves crashing against the front of the boat - loved every minute of this sail!!
