Itinerary
- 1Situated nine miles (15 kilometers) north-east of Port Douglas, Low Isles is a coral cay surrounded by 55 acres of reef in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. The sandy beach and clear, calm lagoon waters are ideal for swimming and snorkeling. Low Isles is well-known for its population of green turtles, keep an eye on the surface as they regularly pop up for air. Occasionally dugongs can be seen grazing on sea grass and large rays may glide by. During the cruise, a Marine Biologist will conduct an informative talk on the fish and corals and provide details on the activities available throughout the day. The 30-meter luxury sailing catamaran offers the excitement of big ship sailing combined with the ultimate in comfort. Relax in the luxurious air-conditioned lounge with fully licensed bar, or soak up the sun under the sails on the expansive deck. On arrival a shuttle will take you from the boat to the island, or you can dive straight in and swim to the beach! Join an organized snorkel tour led by a marine biologist, or take to the water independently and explore at your leisure. Snorkeling equipment is provided and the friendly crew are on hand to assist. You don't have to get wet to enjoy a day at Low Isles. You can join a glass bottom boat tour over the soft coral gardens that surround Low Isles. Your guide will point out giant clams, a variety of fish and corals, and of course be on the lookout for turtles. On land you may like to join a guided beach walk around the small island. Learn about the flora and fauna of the island along with the history of Low Isles as an important place of marine research. We recommend you book this reef trip on your first full available day. You then have the opportunity to be flexible and change your travel date if you wish. Your booking can be changed at no additional cost directly with the operator once you are in Cairns. Prebook and secure your booking, but relax in knowing you can make amendments at no charge.

- erikaavellaneda0 contributionsFamily friendly and fun, we saw a turtle! We did this tour in Jan 2025. It was a great experience. We were traveling as a family of 4 with three and a 5-year-old who had never been snorkeling. The crew was super helpful and friendly. The boat was clean, and air-conditioned and there was ice water, and cordial for free all day. Biscuits were available at any time, and lunch was a great selection of salads, pasta, prawns, chicken, cold meats, bread rolls, and butter. They asked everyone if they had eaten enough before putting it away. Even people out on the island! They biologist did a presentation at the beginning explaining important facts about the reef and made herself available to anyone during the trip. The reef was beautiful with heaps of fish; we saw a shark and a turtle. I highly recommend this trip if you have small children. Probably the only way to see the reef comfortably.Written 19 January 2025
- A5454ZFalisonb0 contributionsTips for future familiesThe boat and crew were 10/10. Food was great too. We loved the trip back with one of the crew taking to the mic and singing with guitar. Tip- put your stinger suit on on the boat. There are 2 tables on the island to put gear on. You’re pretty much putting your stinger suit on whilst standing on fine crushed up coral. Don’t do the snorkel tour if you have kids. There is not enough time to get everyone ready before the guide counts down and takes off. A little stressful with 2 kids in a new situation. The reef is completely bleached so no colour, but still some big fish and turtles. Note to the guide, tell us to be mindful of reef sharks whilst we are on the boat, not when we are 20m off sure about to swim our further, this was not thoughtful of the kids in the water whether they are harmless or not. Take water and electrolytes for the island tour, is damn hot!Written 10 January 2025
- G5106RZrebeccah0 contributionsTurtle spotting !Fantastic crew so helpful and kind . The boat was clean and spacious and the reef although badly damaged we were able to see and swim with green turtles on our day out to the lie isles.Written 11 November 2024
- X3755YHjenniferm0 contributionsThe best day out on the Great Barrier Reef!lWe had the BEST day with Wavedancer out on the Great Barrier Reef! We travelled to Tropical North Queensland for our wedding anniversary and were looking for a trip to the Great Barrier Reef that wasn’t just a snorkelling tour. We came across Wavedancer Low Isles Cruise and their itinerary looked perfect - not too long of a cruise off Port Douglas, glass bottomed boat tour, island tour and snorkelling, topped with food and drinks included. It was exactly what we were looking for. We weren’t stuck out in sun all day, we could pick and choose what we wanted to do and we were so well looked after by the staff and boat crew. A couple of highlights for us include: the snorkelling, the guided island tour and the beautiful live music whilst sitting on the front of the boat heading back into port. Thank you so much for the wonderful experience and we can’t wait to come back!Written 18 October 2024
- sarahcP777EE0 contributionsPerfect memoriesFrom the moment you are welcomed aboard to the moment you say goodbye, the whole team are there to deliver. Fabulous boat which was not too crowded. Highly professional focus on safety to ensure that everyone has the best experience for their ability. Can't be easy when you have rookie snorkelers struggling with their gear, but so much care and patience shown by all. The reef didn't disappoint - we saw turtles, a reef shark ... plenty of fish(!!) We were kept well fed, with a delicious & generous lunch - as well as morning & afternoon tea. This team are a class act.Written 22 September 2024
- ChrisTrips40 contributionsCute islandGreat day out, just be aware the island is made up of dead coral and can be rough on the feet. The food was pretty good(cold), I recommend the guided walk which I thought was cool. There’s drop toilets located on the island.Written 8 August 2024
- Sightseer627206053530 contributionsThe Great Barrier Reef experienceIt was a well-organised cruise. The staff members were helpful and friendly. Lunch was tasty but a bit rushed. The GBR experience was underwhelming. We did see lots of fish, though.Written 11 July 2024
- shanew17680 contributionsFun experience, not too tiring as the boat ride was just over an hour. The crew were great. Food was mainly cold dishes but the selection was adequate. Snorkeling was tough for young kids but the island walkabout was interesting.Written 22 May 2024
- Nacigator3405300 contributionsFantastic experience with great company.Great experience, although we failed at snorkeling 🥹. The whole day was so well organised with friendly, helpful crew. Lovely, fresh lunch - prawns, chicken, salads & pasta. Glass of bubbly on our way home. The company kept us up to date via email prior to joining the boat.Written 7 May 2024
- 465kn0 contributionsAmazing!!!We LOVED this tour. It was amazing to snorkel up close to the reef and visit the island. The staff are fantastic - friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.Written 28 April 2024
- Redheadpom0 contributionsExcellent choice for family reef optionWonderful day out to the inner reef. Chose this option with my family as having been to the outer reef a few times previously wanted to ensure an easy enjoyable trip. Good points- Less distance to travel (do take the sea sickness tablets as soon as boarding, none of us were sick) & an island to stand on in case anyone was unwell & needed time to recover. Boat was clean & comfortable, staff very helpful. We went at Easter & thought would be busy but was an actually only about a third full so lots of opportunity to move around the boat. Stinger suits provided & snorkel gear. Would be helpful if they’d advised to put on suit when travelling across to the island save then trying to put on on the sand. Good snorkelling on the reef, we were lucky the tide was in so able to access the reef, good snorkelling saw lots of fish, clams. Coral & a distant turtle. Would have liked to have done the guided snorkel tour however it moves off very quickly after first transfer to the island & didn’t allow enough time for us to get our suits on & snorkels (trying to sort out the children). Which was a real shame as my eldest son (12yrs) particularly wanted to do it. Food was lovely, lots of choice & plenty of it.Written 12 April 2024
- 237anjaf0 contributionsGreat snorklingGreat trip of you are there for snorkling. The glasbuttom boat was not impressive. We were 2 on this tour one who was snorkling and one who was not. That is why we chose this tour over others. But we has expected more from the glassbuttom boat.Written 2 March 2024
- 384SusanL0 contributionsWhat an amazing dayMy husband and I and our 2 friends booked the Wave dancer trip in the uk before our trip to Australia, we were so glad we did. The day was amazing from start to finish. From the moment we boarded the catamaran we were given very thorough safety instructions and loads of information on marine life and snorkelling. When we arrived at the beautiful Low isles we were quickly shuttled across to the island and given first class equipment. The guided snorkelling trip was great and we felt very safe at all times. When we got back on the catamaran at lunchtime there was a fabulous buffet waiting for us comprising of king prawns, chicken, beef and an array of delicious salads followed by fresh fruit and later cheese and biscuits We couldn’t have asked for more, then on the return journey we were serenaded by this lovely man with a glass of bubbly to round off an amazing day, I didn’t get any of your names but all the crew were brilliant and super friendly. I would not hesitate to recommend this trip it was first class.Written 12 November 2023
- Scenic632935647070 contributionsPerfect TripAwesome from start to finish! What feels like a short hour journey from the port to Low Isles. Staff briefing on safety was extremely thorough and filled us with confidence. All the equipment provided was like new and we had no issues other than sizing of one of our wetsuits (underestimated girth). A fantastic day all round with a great guided snorkel, beach walk and glass bottom boat. Shoutout to Glen the marine biologist for those. Capped off with a complimentary glass of bubbles on the way back to port.Written 26 October 2023

What an unforgettable experience! Pickup from Palm Cove direct to the boat along the coastline, a beautiful 1 hour sail to the island. Snorkelling instructions and information provided was fantastic. Very friendly staff and service. Would recommend taking the glass bottom boat out and eating lunch before the snorkelling experience / walk around the island so that you don’t waste time on the shuttle to and from the island. Grey (crew member) sang us back to Port with a complimentary glass of bubbles. Was highly enjoyable and would definitely recommend!

We went in the glass bottom boat first as most people went snorkeling. It was a very informative ride and we got to see lots. We saw a reef shark and turtles and lots of coral. We then ate lunch which was delicious especially the prawns and there was plenty to eat. We then went snorkeling and the water was very warm. The staff were great and gave lots of information. We had a complimentary glass of wine on the way back. There is tea, coffee and water available throughout the trip. We had a fantastic time and would recommend this trip.

What a fantastic day trip. Pick up can be booked for Palm Cove where we were staying
Coach arrived on time. All staff throughout the day were great. The bonus of a Marine Biologist to take you snorkelling or for a walk around the island just added another dimension. Lunch was great and served up quite generously in COVID times by staff. Stinger suits and all gear provided. Cheese and bikkies and a glass of bubbles on the trip back was also fabulous. Oh and the terrific crew member who got out his guitar and sang us back to port. A day to remember. Oh and the boat!!!!

Just wonderful service and we saw so much around the island.
The group six was quite big but we knew that given the boat size.
Lunch was magnificent and that complimentary glass of bubbles at the end was a nice touch.
We saw turtles, reef sharks and so many other awesome sea life.
Well done guys.

This was a fabulous day out on a really lovely boat with a nice bunch of people, probably no more than 50, but it's a big boat so loads of space! We have done this type of tour before in various places but this was right up there with the very best. The day was as expected with excellent food, drink, snorkelling etc all provided. What made it so exceptional was the lovely crew, so friendly, fun, efficient and professional. As well as the expected activities we were given a talk and a short walking guided tour round one of the Low Isles by the on-board Marine Biologist. She was able to answer all our questions! What a great day, thoroughly recommended!
