Great fun afternoon cruise on the Ord
We did the jjj cruise today. Mark (aka Mabo) was our skipper. The explorer with sunset was fantastic. Mabo the skipper had extensive local knowledge on the area, river, birdlife and crocs and made the cruise informative and very enjoyable. He also has a good rapport with others on the river, and is obviously a local identity and a real character. We would recommend this cruise to anyone with an interest in the river or the east Kimberley. We thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon.

          Don't miss this tour!
This was an outstanding tour and one not to miss in Kununurra. The scenery along the river is beautiful and we were able to see quite a lot of wildlife, but it was the excellent information provided by our boat captain that separated this tour from otherwise we have been on. We highly recommend doing this one.

A fantastic tour of the Ord River scheme. Started with an excellent cruise on Lake Kununurra which was very informative and entertaining. Included lunch at an amazing riverbank location. Joey the guide/driver was very informative and entertaining and also an excellent driver.

          Fantastic
We thoroughly enjoyed our Ord River experience. The scenery was spectacular, the boat was fantastic and our captain, Mabo, insured we were safe, entertained and provided us with an excellent overview of the area. Then to top it off we were given a delicious afternoon tea and finally treated to a perfect sunset on Lake Kununurra. Thankyou a perfect adventure.

Wonderful Ord River, doesn't get better than this.
My wife and I went on the 6 hour Ord River Tour 55km up to the dam wall and back with Joey as our skipper. What a fantastic day, from start to finish, everything was amazing. The boat is awesome, powered 2 x 350hp V8 Yamaha's, and it powers through the water. The scenery is to die for, as is the wildlife, crocodiles, birds, and more Skipper Joey is a strapping 6 feet tall if you believe him. Provided a wonderful and interesting commentary of the river, the Ord River Scheme, the Dam, and of the Wildlife and Flora. He shared some great dad jokes, too, one in particular regarding how tall he is. So very impressed with the whole day, fro. Bus drivers, the boat and Joey, and of course of the mighty Ord River and its inhabitants. Don't think twice, just do it, you will not be disappointed. Thanks Joey, fantastic day.

          Outstanding boat trip
This jet boat trip was one of the highlights of my Kimberley trip. It was outstanding. Joey handled the boat beautifully as well as slowing down to point out wildlife such as birds and other animals. He really seemed to enjoy his job and showing us the country. He quickly and skilfully set up a nice lunch by the riverbank. I couldn’t recommend this trip more highly.

          Great day on the river
Great experience - beautiful scenery, lots of wildlife, hair raising bends and an unexpectedly good lunch! Joey was a veritable font of knowledge as well as being just a tad cheeky. Thoroughly enjoyed the river cruise. Would like to have had more time at the historic Durack homestead but had to cut it short because of commitments of a travel group on board.

We joined the Triple J Ord River Discoverer with sunset tour. We were picked up in a very comfortable coach and driven the 70km to the Argyle Homestead Museum. The bus then drove to the dam wall of Lake Argyle and the upper end (highest point) of the Ord River. We joined the boat and our tour guide, Grant and began our 55km cruise back to Kununurra. The first 15km was an exhilarating ride through the narrowest section. It was freezing so each of us grabbed a blanket to help shield ourselves from the elements. Every now and then we stopped and became ‘birdos’ as they were the main wildlife. Freshwater crocodiles were scarce due to the colder waters from 4 days of overcast weather. Further upstream, we enjoyed an afternoon tea of pumpkin scones and sticky date cake with a welcome cup of steaming tea or coffee. We continued towards Kununurra, making frequent stops and nipping into a little estuary. We spotted a couple of freshwater crocs but they were little and elusive. We also saw an amazing rock wallaby. Finally we came to a halt in time to view the sunset. We were dropped directly at our residence, Discovery Caravan Park. Brilliant trip and the cold was unusual.

This was a high speed (at times) ride powered by 700 horsepower and skippered by Jason. He was knowledgeable about the Ord River Scheme and the flora and fauna of the river system. We saw a number of Freshwater crocodiles along with birds and that stunning orange Kimberley scenery. Afternoon tea was excellent at a river side camp with shade and pit toilets. We stopped often on the way up - floating temporarily whilst getting a commentary. Went up to the dam and back. The boat ride was very fast and exciting through the narrows up and back from the dam. Sunset on the river near ‘sleeping Buddha’ rock was another highlight. Only improvement would be more information about the river and the Indigenous people who lived along it for thousands of years. Most of that history is under the diversion dam and Lake. However, we did think it was a big responsibility for one person to take 50 + mature aged people on a boat trip 55 ks upriver, but they did have a satellite phone. Overall a very enjoyable and efficient trip including bus pick up and drop off from accommodation.

How amazing is that sunset spot by the 'sleeping Buddha'! We are so glad you got to see so much throughout your tour. In regards to having more information about the indigenous culture in Kununurra there are multiple cultural tours available in Kununurra who specialise in this. We pride ourselves on only delivering local information we have the most knowledge in which includes the diversion dam and agriculture system. Thanks, Triple J Team

This tour company has been operating for many years and does not seem to have updated their approach. You are given no information about the local Aboriginal community and cultural practices. In fact Dave the bus guide didn’t know who the traditional owners are and bordered on racist in his commentary. The stop at the Argyle Holliday Village was bizarre. Why would they stop at a caravan park for 20 minutes? Don’t except to see much wildlife because most of the time the boat speeds up the river. On the up side, the afternoon tea is great and the river is beautiful.

Hi Jane, Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. In response to your comments around Dave the bus driver and his lack of indigenous commentary content. We are not a cultural tour nor is Dave Aboriginal himself so our guides are not instructed to offer cultural commentary as it is not our area of expertise. There are multiple cultural tours available in Kununurra who specialise in this and we encourage people to utilise them for a accurate cultural experience. Majority of our staff are seasonal and come to Kununurra to work for the season as with most tourism businesses in the area, which means that they do not have the accurate knowledge on local traditional owner groups or local aboriginal cultures. We pride ourselves on only delivering accurate local information and so the guides will not speak about anything they are not fully versed in. The stop at the Argyle Resort has since been removed from the tour itinerary as we felt that it was not a stop that fitted with the rest of the tour. The total distance covered on the boat is 55km so with the high volume of in depth commentary delivered we do need to move at high speeds to be able to cover the distance required. In saying that our tours on the water are minimum 3.5hrs long so there is always lots of stops, of which many are based around wildlife viewing opportunities. Wildlife however in a wild setting such as ours is of course not guaranteed and everyday is different in terms of what is viewed on the river. We are glad to hear however that overall you enjoyed your day out on one of Australia's most spectacular waterways with us and we will pass on the positive feedback to our amazing kitchen staff.

The best tour we have done in Australia! The thought and planning into making the most out of your time and experiencing lake Argyle and the Ord River is worth the day for this tour. Jeff shared his immense and interesting knowledge of the area’s history, ecology and current affairs. The value for money and the scenery of this tour is definitely a must if in the area.

We found the first half of the trip good. The second half was boring as the boat staff filled in time to allow the other company boat to catch us. As explained this was so both boats could pass the business owner's house/ pontoon at the same time at speed. We had numerous stops and we got to spend ages looking at crocodiles that did not move If you like fauna and stopping every 10 feet this is for you.If you expect a fast exciting boat ride then this is not for you.

Hi Neil, We are sorry to hear you found the tour not to your style. The entire trip was awesome - from the moment we stepped onboard all the way to the end after seeing the most glorious sunset over Ord River. We loved the wildlife spotting by the keen eyes of our guide, of crocs, birds and fish. We enjoyed the commentary on the history of the river and dams, of indigenous ways of life, of plants and agriculture. It was exhilarating travelling at high speed in between serene cruising. Afternoon tea by the river was tasty and relaxing. It was a great way to appreciate the magnificence and beauty of the Ord River, brought all the more to life by our excellent and experienced guide!

Dylan our driver guide was fantastic. His passion and knowledge of the Ord River water and bird life was exemplary. Once we had stopped the jet boat for lunch at a magical location on the river bank Dylan buzzed around and within 10 minutes had a delicious lunch organised. Just as quickly after lunch everything was tidied and we were on our way again. His love for the river and the area shines through.. Not leaving out his obvious passion for jet boats.

This was a really enjoyable experience, mainly due to one of the best tour guides I have ever had, namely Marina. As the skipper of the boat and also tour leader, she made the tour so interesting, displaying great knowledge of the area and interspersed it with humour and fun.

The tour itself was informative and enjoyable. The afternoon tea in the bush was great and all in all, it was a great day. Marina certainly made it that much more enjoyable and isa real asset.

        I highly recommend this tour

We had the most amazing day out.
Picked up from our accommodation by Matthew and given a great commentary and stories on our drive from Kununurra to Lake Argyle, including an interesting tour through the Argyle Downs Homestead.
On arrival at Lake Argyle, after a quick walk to the infinity pool, we boarded out TripleJ boat for the 55km trip back to Kununurra.
Jeff was our skipper and guide for this part of the trip and his knowledge of the local flora and fauna was second to none.
He managed to show us a couple of Freshwater Crocs and numerous birds. As a bird watcher, the boat was perfect, plenty of space to walk around and views from either side.

The afternoon tea was fabulous, I would definitely recommend the pumpkin scones.
The sunset views from the river were glorious.
We were deposited on the banks of Lake Kununurra right outside our cabin.
I would thoroughly recommend this tour.
