About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- sonjam7580 contributionsWonderful way to see this magnificent landscape!Had a really enjoyable day - scenic flight, Cathedral Gorge & Echidna Chasm. Our guide Cheryl was knowledge and ensured everything was smooth sailing. Truly breathtaking scenery- definitely a must do in this region. Regarding the tour - mostly excellent. I think afternoon tea could be skipped and another walk squeezed in though! Long way to go to just go to the lodge in the afternoon. Also- if you suffer from motion sickness be prepared for the flights!! Overall, highly recommended!Written 1 August 2022
- elias5010 contributionsSpectacular, historic and cultural experienceThe walk to Cathedral Gorge was unbelievably beautiful. The tour started very early with a flight from Kununurra to the Purnululu airstrip. The pilots are well informed and very skillful at flying so that everyone in the plane gets to see the area. We did a short walk under the careful guidance and well educated Pete - about an hour and a half into Catherdral Gorge and the land forms were amazing. We spent the afternoon at Savanna Lodge cooling down in the pool and relaxing. We walked up a hill with Nic who was working at the Lodge to watch the sunset while having a glass of wine. We chatted to Gabe who also worked at Savanna Lodge and who has been learning about the land since he was a boy and was a font of knowledge. We had a delicious meal (cooked by Reuben) under the stars and retired to our little cabin. No airconditioning but we still slept well. Following morning after an amazing breakfast we flew back to Kununurra. This is one of those unforgettable life experiences. Put it on your bucket list.Written 5 October 2021
- ssw888880 contributionsIncredible!!Danni was or tour guide and she was assisted by Gabe (who was great fun) and Danni was fabulous! So knowledgeable and patient and engaging on our trips. The first day we flew in from Kununurra to Bungle Bungles. We stayed at Savannah Lodge for 2 nights. As it is an eco lodge so it has no heating or cooling so plan when you're going to stay! The first day we did the mini palms (quite challenging as you have to climb over boulders and walk over a lot of loose creek stones) and the Echidna Chasm. Both are absolutely stunning and worth the effort. We came back to the lodge around 230pm when it is really hot and had a swim in the pool. The bar opens 3pm-8pm with a small selection of wines and spirits. The dinner is delicious as they have a great south african chef. They light a lovely fire to keep warm and stave off mosquitos! The next day we visited the Cathedral gorge which was breathtaking. This is a MUST DO trip and truly incredible.Written 20 May 2021
- LRMKI0 contributionsBungle Bungle Wanderer tour - breathtaking! We flew with Aviair to Bellburn airstrip and the flight was great, the pilot knowledgeable and professional and we felt safe and enjoyed a guided flight learning about local history. From there we went by 4wd bus for the Bungle Bungles guided tour and it was magnificent! The guides Dani, Wally and Gabe were all very knowledgeable and ensured that all the group was catered for throughout (there were different ages and fitness levels but all were well catered for). It was great to learn about the local Aboriginal history during the course of the tour along with the magnificence of Cathedral Gorge, Picanniny creek and of course the domes of the Bungles. The flight back was outstanding with our pilot Renee giving us great information about the landscape we were flying over and we took in an amazing sunset. Overall, highly recommend this trip if in the Kimberley, both Aviair and the tour!Written 17 May 2021
- Craiglinne0 contributionsEchinacea Chasim - a must do when visiting the Bungle Bungles and Savanna Lodge.Echidna Chasm is a must do and Cathedral Gorge was spectacular. Pete our tour guide was very knowledgeable and the service was second to none. We flew in and stayed at Savana Lodge and the staff were very welcoming picking us up from the airstrip The dinner around the camp fire was delicious and this is one of the hidden gems in the Kimberly. Highly recommend doing it.Written 17 July 2020
- Elor19480 contributionsBungle bungle wanderer and Echidna ChasmWhat an excellent tour. Flight from Kununurra to land on an unsealed airstrip. We were only a group of 3 so we got to go in cruiser as opposed to bus, really good. Excellent guide Dayn? Walk in the morning excellent with lots of interesting facts and features that I would never found on my own. Lovely lunch and the off for second walk. Rough underground but the chasm is amazing. If you can stick the heat and the rough ground -do it!Written 17 September 2019
- Wendy C0 contributionsFantastic TourWe flew here from Kununurra and joined the tour from the airstrip. Our tour leaders were fabulous, really informative about the geology and flora and fauna and very safety conscious. Had a wonderful walk in to the Cathedral Gorge with a delicious lunch. We were so impressed that all the drink bottles, dishes and cutlery were reusable, no plastic to be seen. We also had afternoon tea at the Savannah Lodge which was also delicious before our flight back.Written 11 August 2019
- lappingwave0 contributionsExcellent two day adventureWe took the overnight two day trip from Kununurra to Purnululu National Park ( Bungle Bungles) and what an experience. First day was an early morning flight down by Aviair, and taken to Savannah Lodge for a delicious breakfast before departing for Echidna Chasm and the Mini Palms gorge. Mick our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the park and everything in it. We have been twice before, but still learned new things from him.A great day, incredible scenery, new knowledge and a good packed lunch. During the day Mick talked about doing a Heli -hike into the top end of Piccaninny Gorge the next day, which wasn’t part of our tour. We decided to see if we could swap to that tour instead of Cathedral Gorge our intended destination as we had seen it before. We were amazed that Mick and Luke, the manager at Savannah Lodge managed to arrange it for us after phone calls back to head office in Kununurra, and even loaned us equipment as this was a more serious hike, than we had anticipated. The Heli hike was spectacular, but not for the faint hearted or unfit! We had a wonderful day, made a new set of friends, whose tour we gate crashed, and will be forever grateful that all the people involved made it happen for us! Well Done guys! Btw Savannah Lodge is a great place to stay, very comfortable accommodation, marvelous scenery and wonderful food and exceptional staff.Written 11 July 2019
- hags550 contributionsFlight with Avair over Bungle BunglesWe had the early morning flight over Lake Argyle Diamond Mine and Also The Bungle Bungles. The flight was an amazing experience and it was also clear to pick out the different land marks. We had a 530 am start but it was certainly worth it as the 2 hrs passed very quickly. This is a must - if you’re up this way.Written 6 July 2019
- Tricia15630 contributionsThan You Thank You$315 per person and so worth the money. The corrugated roads would not be pleasant if taking your own car. The Isuzu and Hino passenger trucks fly over the corrugation with minimal discomfort. Sam our driver and Rosa were a barrel of laughs and kept us amused all day. Morning tea was fresh baked cake or packet biscuits with tea/coffee or water. Lunch was the largest ham and salad wrap I have seen. The tour stops were fantastic and informative with plenty of photo opportunities. Left at 6.30am and back before 5pm all going well. Dinner is also included at 6.30pm with the tenderest sirloin steak and chicken dish. Only minor complaint was the cost of a glass of wine or mixed drink $10 each, sorry this is way overpriced. Beer $5, cool drinks $3. Again thank you for a memorable experience.Written 4 July 2019
- rickjennyd0 contributionsGuided tourLeft Kununurra airport on an Aviair caravan, Paul our pilot. Luckily we had Lisa, our guide on the plane with us. Great flight over Lake Argyle and Ord River then Bungles. Landed and met by 2 more guides, both indigenous and had a wealth of knowledge to share with us. Kolya and Jimmy were happy to pass on their extensive knowledge of the area, its geography, Culture, animal and bird life. Both were also happy to share jokes and stories. Lisa also has a great affinity with the area it’s significance to the region and the Aboriginal tribes who share its beauty. Truly great day enhanced by magnificent staff who made it an experience we won’t forget.Written 21 June 2019

It was an easy three hour return trek with plenty of rest stops and fascinating info talk about the geology, history and flora and fauna. We were joined by an aboriginal guide too, Pelican, who shared some wonderful anecdotes and stories about the history. Cathedral Gorge itself is immense and a beautiful place to sit and eat lunch. - joarcher20160 contributionsFly in / fly out 2 day Bungles guided walking toursHave just spent two days on walking tours to Cathedral Gorge, Echidna Chasm and Mini Palms Gorge - guided by Mick Hall. Mick was an excellent guide: very knowledgeable, considerate and attentive to our group. He sensitively managed our differing capabilities, knowledge and fitness levels - and taught us so much about the area - especially in terms of its flora and geology. Mick’s passion for the region and ensuring that guests were safe, comfortable and informed was complemented by his good sense of humour and obvious commitment to ongoing learning. Our first tour was supported by Colya, who provided fascinating insights about his culture, people, country and the Bungles. We were very fortunate to have been allocated these great guides.Written 15 July 2018

This flight over the Ord River, Lake Argyll and the Bunggle Bungles was superb. The pilot Emma was skilful in her manoeuvring of the plane to ensure we all had fantastic view of the magnificent landscape. After landing in the Bungles we started our walk through the outstandingly beautiful environment towards Cathedral Gorge. This site is awe inspiring. An absolutely stunning and serene space. We enjoyed a lovely lunch and finished our walk with afternoon tea followed by another fabulous flight back to Kununurra. Our tour guide for the walk was Lachie and he was a considerate and extremely knowledgeable tour leader. I appreciate that this tour will seem expensive but the Bungle Bungles are very remote and the tour iprovides a unique opportunity for immersion in this area of outstanding and unique beauty.

We booked the Aviair Bungle Bungles Wanderers through the Kununurra Tourist Information Centre. It was good. We were collected from our accomodation and flew over many sights in our Cessna fixed wing roughly 14 seater plane with pilot Brent at the controls. He gave quality historical and regional commentary and took us over the Ord river scheme and Durack homestead now a dive site during the dry season! We joined our tour guides Dooma and Purnululu First Nations guide Jethro. We walked the 3km round trip to Cathedral Gorge in significant heat, with a photo opportunity to where the choir performed I Still Australia Home. Beautiful. Rock art and bush plants described quietly by Jethro. I would’ve loved to hear more about the First Nations story and experience of this wonderful wonderful country - the current connections with country, bush medicines and other cultural aspects and observations that were mentioned just in passing. I think overseas visitors would also appreciate much more insight into First Nations history as really it is obviously an ancient land with an ancient past with a continuing relationship that should not be denied. How lucky are we to have access to such amazing country! Some of the geology information clashed with the information we had received elsewhere eg. The reasons for the orange and black stripes. That needs to be ironed out and a deeper more scientific description given. I think the participants are up for it. The care taken by Dooma and Jethro, particularly for those of us not so sporty and strong, was just great. Plenty of much needed water and great food too! Safe hands. Our return pilot Will gave us a wonderful view of the Argyle Diamond site and others. All up, a big experience. We slept well last night!

Thank you very much for taking the time to leave such a lovely and detailed review. We are very glad to hear you enjoyed your time exploring the Bungle Bungle with us.
Brent and Will are fantastic pilots, we're very proud to have them on our Aviair team. Dooma and Jethro do a wonderful job guiding and we are pleased to hear they provided plenty of support and care during your walk.
We are working closely with the Traditional Owners of Purnululu National Park to encourage and support them to share their stories of the history and connection to country. We feel very privileged to work alongside them and agree with you wholeheartedly, their vast knowledge of the area is fascinating. We hope to continue working alongside our T/O's for many years to come!
We hope you enjoy the rest of your time in the beautiful East Kimberley!

My family recently did this tour on the same day as my sister. We were however in separate groups. Our guide was Cheryl; their guides were Ivan and Jethro. Although ostensibly the same tour, our experiences could not be more different. Our walk was a stroll to Cathedral Gorge with a peek down Piccaninny Gorge. My sister's group also went to the Lookout and Whipsnake Gorge and were shown rock art right near Cathedral Gorge. Jethro also spoke at length about the plants etc. from an indigenous perspective.
Because we did so very little (not even the 400 m G
Domes walk en route), we spent 15 mins in the car park doing nothing and then another hour at the Savannah Lodge having a cuppa and doing nothing! We didn't pay all that money to get to the BB Range and do nothing. It was so disappointing.
On the plus side, the Aviair flight with Lachie was interesting and magnificent. And of course the ranges are awe inspiring. I just cannot recommend the guided walk part especially knowing the other group got so much more out of it.

Dear ESMcQ,
We are very sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your recent tour with us. We do strive to provide a high value and informative tour that truly articulates the Cultural and Ecological significance of Purnululu National Park, and so we too are disappointed to not have met your expectations on this occasion.
We have discussed your feedback to ensure we can provide consistency on future tours. While you were partnered with one of our most passionate guides on flora and fauna within Purnululu, we can appreciate that missing out on the Cultural commentary from an Indigenous perspective will have been disappointing. We have been working hard in the area of Aboriginal employment, with 50% of our workforce Traditional Custodians, however there are still occasions where this component of the tour cannot be provided.
On this particular day Jethro did elect to take his visitor group for the optional lookout walk, which does not normally form part of our tour due to time and warm weather constraints. Whipsnake Gorge is a Category 4, 10km return hike, and doesn’t form part of the tour.
While we would have preferred that your entire experience was 5-star, we are glad that you enjoyed the scenic flight, and do thank you for your feedback.

Most people, approx 220,000 a year, fly over the Bungles for a short flight and this is certainly a must do đź‘Ź
However to get the real, perspective you need to complement this with a days hiking. Yes, it’s remote and hard to access but the sense of awe you get from the flight is only exaggerated by an on the ground visit. Be one of the 25,000pa to hike as well and feel the total magnificence of thecBungle Bungles

Hi Howard,
Thank you for your lovely review! The remote location of the national park does make a fly-in tour a very convenient and relaxing way to experience the marvels of Purnululu. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip.

We flew on a 12 seater plane with Aviair. The pilot was very knowledgeable about all areas we flew over, including Lake Argyle. The walk was with Bungle Bungle Guided Tours, and our guides were Marnie and Wes. They were terrific guides, both with knowledge andpsion fo he area. We walked into Cathedral Gorge. Beautiful and breathtaking. We had lunch there, sharing some quiet time together. A great experience. Bring a backpack to carry the lunch provided. There's alo plenty of water on hand.

Absolutely stunning visit to Purnululu National Park, home of the Bungle Bungles, 360 million old sandstone. Aviar very knowledgeable about the Kimberley region, HeliSpirit pilots took great care in preparing us for a truly amazing 500ft view over the gorges & domes of the Bungles, then flew back to KNX over Lake Argyle & restoration of the Diamond mine. Delicious lunch, morning & afternoon tea. Truly an unforgettable adventure ~ Thank you to our passionate guides sharing this incredible beauty of nature on the Nth Western corner of Australia 🇦🇺

Absolutely amazing tour, our initial flight was delayed and we were a little worried it may impact our day, but what it gave us was a more personalised experience with our amazing guide J.B, and with only 6 in our group, made the experience so much better. The fights and pilots were great and very informative however, had trouble hearing the pilot's commentary on the flight back. Only negative I would say is the morning tea with arrowroot biscuits and the lunch was a bit ordinary for the price we paid for the experience.

We were picked up from our Kununurra accommodation at 5.15am and driven to their private airstrip, they were fantastic and had masks for everyone for the flight and a bottle of water if you wanted it. Rhys flew us out to the Bungle Bungles and he was probably the best pilot we’ve ever had, I am not great at flying but he was excellent. He flew over the Bungle Bungles and Lake Argyle allowing time for good photos. We then had Pete our guide welcome us to Purnululu National Park, we were given a burrito for breakfast at the airstrip then we drove to the domes section of the Park, took a 3 km walk (round trip) into the Cathedral Gorge which was breathtaking, had around half an hour there with a muffin for morning tea. Pete provided excellent information along the way and showed some rock paintings. We then drove for around 1.5 hours to the North end of the Park to the Echidna Chasm. The walk in was fantastic, the light at that time of the day was just perfect and we ate lunch half way into the Chasm which was really special. The lunch was excellent- all the food on the tours has been fantastic. We then drove to the Savanna Lodge dropped some of the guests off there who were staying over. Had fruit and tea/coffee for afternoon tea. Then onto a lookout which was great and then to the airport. Flight back circled over the Bungle Bungles again and also the Argyle Diamond mine. Back to the hotel around 5.30pm. Brilliant all day tour, got to see everything from the land and sky without stressing about breaking down, highly recommend. Pete was just brilliant as a guide, very passionate, excellent driver.

We have recently done the Bungle Bungle Wanderer tour which incorporated an Aviair flight from Kununurra. It was an outstanding tour, made essentially memorable by the staff
Will, the Aviair pilot was knowledgeable and engaging. He is also a great pilot. The actual tour, led by Gabriel and Chris was superb. They are both friendly and eager to please. Chris is a great organiser and kept us fully informed and entertained. Gab has a brilliant knowledge of the area and a wonderful sense of humour. They combined so well to make it a memorable day. Well done

What do you need to take with you on your day trip tour of Bunglr Bungle
Written 24 August 2021
Check out the tour website it tells you everything to take, water is a must, hat, sunscreen, shoes, etc all required. If you’re doing it without a tour food, knowing how your 4WD works is critical. A family had a flat tire along the way and didn’t know how to change it out in 35 degree heat, not advised if you don’t know what you’re doing. The tour is awesome and keeps you safe
