      Marine Life at its Best!
Spending a day at the Hervey Bay Dive Center was the absolute highlight of my stay in Hervey Bay. After my two scuba dives with the warmest and most welcoming dive team I‘ve ever met in Australia, I was speechless for hours and had the biggest smile. Lucky me I have ears otherwise I would have smiled in a circle. The dive at the Three Ships dive side was amazing. I saw marine wild life I‘ve never seen before: two kinds of rays, turtle, lots of fish. So so happy and thankful for this wonderful day I will remember forever.

      Disappointed with HBDC liveaboard
In September 2023 I took two trips with HBDC- one a day trip and the other a 4 day liveaboard dive trip. The day trip to swim with humpback whales was great but the liveaboard was disappointing. The engine on the boat broke down several times and we had the number of dives shortened and were out in the ocean for many hours at a time with nothing to do in the middle of the day while the crew tried to fix it. Also the engine dying affected the air compressor which meant the tanks were only partially filled when we finally got to dive, shortening the dive time on our already limited dives. The captain said the engine broke down all the time, and on the last trip the refrigeration broke down. Why run a vessel with such an unreliable boat? I also didn't think the dive guide was very professional, telling us not to have dive buddies and to just follow her in a group of eight while she swam off very fast instead. The currents affected the dives a lot, and she refused to check them before giving the dive briefing even after I requested it on the second day. As a result, on one of the dives we swam against the current the entire time. It was exhausting and felt more like a boot camp than a recreational dive! I wasn't the only passenger to complain about this but the crew just shrugged it off. They also didn't follow the regulations for Queensland dive safety, which include having every diver sign back in once they get back on the boat. Not such an issue with only eight divers compared to the much larger boats, but still. When I wrote an email of complaint about these issues later, the captain responded and acknowledged everything I said was true but he didn't see a problem with it or offer any solution or compensation. If you're looking for a dive liveaboard in QLD check out the Spirit of Freedom leaving Cairns. A far better experience for not much more money!

      Stunning whale watching tour
We took a tour out to sea to spot some whales and hopefully snorkel with them. The tour was excellent and the boat crew looked after us amazingly all day. We didn't really get to do much snorkling with the whales but that didn't matter one bit. We saw so many whales it was incredible. There were lots of mothers with their calf and they were splashing and breaching in the water. We could have watched them for hours more and it was sad to leave the whales and return to land. Just incredible.

      Whale sighting/swim
Fantastic day - even though we weren’t able to swim with the whales we spotted loads of mummas and babies, dolphins and turtles! The food was great, the crew very entertaining and the weather was perfect. Would take this tour in a heartbeat many times over!!

      A memorable experience
It is a great experience for me and my girlfriend to meet whale before our wedding ceremony, although it is almost the last season for watching whale, we can still see many whale nearby our boat. We can hear the sound of whale, whale jumping etc. The screen will definitely inside my memory forever. Besides, the staff is very nice and tell a lot about the whale, and the trip includes lots of food, snacks and drink for us to enjoy.

The best day in Hervey Bay
Went on the whale watch and swim tour and it was fantastic. The guides were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. We saw some fantastic whale action and had the chance to get in the water with whales. The day ran smoothly and was just lovely. Highly recommended.

      Great whale watching! No swimming..
I took the boat for the day to go swim and watch the whales! They did say in the emails that it was whale season and that you can not go swim with the whales if they have calves. When I went mid September, 95% of the whales have a calf. It is amazing for their population and we got to see them very closely but I was quite disappointed.. Maybe it's a bit misleading to be expecting swimming with the whales when the babies are born and from September should only be called wahle watching?

      Fantastic Experience
We had a great day out, even though the weather was not ideal, the crew worked very hard to ensure we made the most of our whale experience. Much better than being cancelled and missing out completely. Great experience.

      A dream come true!
Where do I start? This trip was very emotional for me, trying to make one of my biggest dreams come true and Hervey Bay Dive Center succeeded! Coming as close as the whale wants on it's own terms and seeing this impressive animal glide through the water with my own eyes... Unbelievable! I did a lot of whale watching in other countries, but Hervey Bay surely is something else, seeing so many curious whales coming close to the boat, others breaching and flapping their fins onto the water and, of course, being in the water, surrounded by them, looking them into the eyes, as they were swimming close underneath us several times. Never believed I would ever be able to experience something like this! Also the price is very reasonable going on a trip for 5 hrs and the crew is very caring offering snacks and drinks all the time. If you have special dietary preferences, they're prepared and always happy to answer all of your questions. Can't thank you enough for this incredible experience! You made a dream come true! Still having tears in my eyes watching my pics and vids. Thank you! Tanja

      The BEST experience
We had the most amazing day. Saw so many whales, our guide said their population is increasing each year in this area so definitely a great time to go. Very friendly and knowledgeable guides who respected the whales but also did their best to try find whales without calf’s so we could get in the water with them - which we did! Lots of food and snacks on board! Really felt like they wanted to give us the best experience possible. This is a must do!

What a totally awesome experience!! Firstly we saw 2 whales breach about 30 to 40 times. Unreal to see and you never get tired of watching. We then had one whale swim around our boat for about 2 hours. As you are in a smaller boat than the whale watch only boats, you are so much closer to the water and the whales. It costs more but there are way less people and most definitely worth it. Well the whale swim was unbelievable!!! You must add this to your bucket list!!! The crew Ed, Grant and Jess were great and very knowledgable and helped make it a fantastic experience!! I had tried 5 times previously to go whale swimming in Mooloolaba without success due to weather and whales not playing the game. It was well worth the wait. If you don't get to swim with them due to conditions etc, don't give up on the chance to swim with these beautiful creatures.

Only one suggestion for Trip Advisor. I had to put travel with friends, as family option had only with children and teens. I travelled with my sister and there was no option for sibling or parent.

    Wonderful afternoon!

We had a beautiful show all along the afternoon, with a very respectful contact from the company.
The wonderful show came crescendo, and the final was amazing. We had the chance to see a male whale flirting with mum, with her baby.
They were playing very closely from the boat.
The crew was giving very interesting explanations about whales behaviours. We really felt the passion and excitement for the whales from the crew. We also heard their songs.

Amazing time. Thanks so much, we probably going to dream about it for a very long time.

I have been on many whale watching experiences and it is rare you come across a crew as awesome as this one. They were incredibly considerate of the whales and patient to ensure that we swam with an appropriate pod. They don't try to rush this experience into a few hours like some tour operators might, taking that extra time is well worth it because the interactions we had when we got in the water were fantastic, for many will be once in a lifetime. You can tell the crew have done plenty of whale season and really understand the behavior of the whales in this area. They work to guarantee you the best day possible without compromising the whales.

What a great day we had as a family. For the record, Hervey Bay Dive Centre doesn't guarantee you'll see or dive with the whales but they do they're very best to make sure it happens . . . and happen it di for us all. We got into the water and were about 1-2m away from up to 10 whales over the 4 opportunities we had to get into the water with them. Each 'dive' is strictly controlled and you must be attached to a line or a part of the boat by holding on to a rope. The whale watching from the boat itself is equally amazing as you are much closer to the whales from the deck of the boat - it's a smaller craft with less people than most other whale watching boats It was a brilliant day and the bonus is that you need to travel quite a distance along the western side of Fraser Island to get to the main whale watching area - so you also get a scenic cruise as part of the deal. Would thoroughly recommend.

Went out with Hervey Bay Dive Centre for their Whale Swim on a beautiful August day. Our skipper Ed new exactly where to go and we were lucky to find some whales who were interested in checking us out. Grant made sure we had a sensational and safe experience in the water, and also offered a hot cuppa when you got out. It's truly magical seeing these gentle giants up close and in their element!

This tour was amazing. The crew were attentive and there was so much delicious food.

Even though our opportunity to swim with the whales was limited I would still highly recommend this tour.

My only suggestion would be to allow those who have not had a chance to get into the water a chance before those who have already had a swim. My husband missed out on the opportunity to get in the water due to poor planning and the eagerness of others wanting a second chance.

If swimming is a priority, like it was for us then be aware that you may have to be quick in getting in line for the swim.

I could not fault the crew or the Captain 10/10

First time adventurers with Dive Centre crew. These guy's were absolutely fantastic, very friendly staff, polite, courteous and provided a relaxed enjoyable atmosphere - A+ ! Thanks for making our day so amazing guy's. The whole experience from beginning to end was nothing short of spectacular and to be able swim near the whale's as they were breaching the water surface was absolutely exhilarating !

Thanks for a great day out.

Wow - amazing, incredible, food for the soul. I was a sceptic when we went out and first got in the water and nothing.
But then we found two inquisitive whales spy hopping the rangers boats. They came over to check out our boat and we were in the water. Three whales swimming right up to us, under us, rolling on their backs and swimming under us. They were less than a metre away.

After everyone had a float and experience with the whales we moved on and did the same with some other whales.

We then watched whales breaching, pec slapping, spy hopping, tail slaps.

My only disappointment was the idiots who didnt follow rules and let go and drifted off the line (snd got in everyone elses view), and then held onto the line with their feet, except it was my snorkel they had their feet on and tried to drown me.
follow the instructions and just hold on the line, flow and dont feel entitled to get the experience without regard for others or the whales.

I researched for a long time and found just the right tour. A small group, about 18 people, on a very good boat with toilet. Grant, Nick and Mat took care of us and provided us with information again and again. They were so relaxed and cordial that it felt like a trip with friends. Mat even had his family with him, so it was really very familiar. As I said, completely relaxed.
The skipper (Grant) always managed, with the best view from above, to get us at a proper distance from the whales. And there were many of them in the best weather. Jumping out of the water, flapping their fins, swimming on their backs or showing off their fascinating tail fins, we saw it all. And they also tried to make swimming possible, but since 90% of the mothers are there with calves at the moment, and you are therefore only allowed in the water with solitary animals (without fins, on a line in the water), it is very difficult. And then these few whales would also have to swim in our direction.

Tea, coffee, sandwiches, fruit, sweets and non-alcoholic cold drinks got us through this great day. I can only recommend this tour with this organiser.
