      Amazing Trip
We did a half day afternoon trip and the whole afternoon was so enjoyable. The boat was spotless and the information we were given through the speakers in every part of the boat was fantastic. We saw numerous whales and we were talked through what they were doing and what sort of groups they were in etc. I wasn’t expecting to see so many! It really felt like we were just watching them go about their lives without interfering with them - but we still got such amazing shows from them. The animals themselves you can’t predict of course (in our experience there was an abundance of whales to see and they seemed very active) but the tour itself was brilliant. Spotlessly clean, large well equipped boat, friendly and knowledgable staff and a cup of tea and biscuits on the way home to top it off.

Great experience, not to be missed
Sunday morning trip, great weather, boat very comfortable and well appointed. Crew amazingly friendly and well informed, obviously passionate about their jobs. Plenty of whales to watch and photograph, excellent commentary from the skipper and crew.

      Brilliant day out
Could not have been happier with our morning trip, great commentary throughout the day, large spacious boat with plenty of room and viewing areas - not to mention the whales! So many pods, calves playing and putting on a spectacular show, we were amazed at how many we saw and got close to. Highly recommend this tour

      Worth every cent!
We did the 1/2 day whale watching trip today and it was absolutely amazing. We were fortunate enough to see numerous pods of whales, with special shows from both baby and mumma whales. The staff and crew were extremely friendly and very informative throughout the trip. Worth the money for sure!

Plenty of Whales on a Windy Day
We got on the boat knowing that the weather wasn’t going to be great. The crew advised that it would get a bit rough but we were expecting to see a few whales. After a good run out it was only a few minutes before we saw our first whale. From then on it was pretty much action all morning. Even though the weather didn’t cooperate it was still a great trip. The staff were wonderful looking after everyone and were very informative. Great day on a big comfortable boat.

End of season...but we still saw whales..
The Shuttle bus picked us up at our hotel, the driver was very chatty and informative - we were first pick up. At harbour paid rest of the money - only paid a deposit at the hotel. We boarded the boat, plenty of room. The captain said he thought it maybe up to 45 mins before we see any whales - judging by the day before - BUT we saw a mother and baby only 10mins out! We stopped to watch them (watching us!) . Then went on saw several more, also loggerhead turtles, green turtles and coral spawn. We had a good view of Fraser Island coast. It was a very windy day, but an excellent morning (with morning tea included). We had an excellent trip and would like to thank the crew fro their knowledge and friendliness. The shuttle dropped us back - at the pub at our request!

Awesome staff and lots of whales
We went on Spirit this morning with our two young children. The seas were a little Roley poley and the staff were so helpful with our kids but also making sure we got to see whales as well. Mothers and calves tail slapping, breaching and pec slapping all around. Your staff are awesome and made the trip so much better.

      Take seasick tablets!
A group of friends and I went whale watching on Sat arvo. It was very choppy on the way there and unfortunately only one mother whale and her calf came close to the boat. Was a great experience nonetheless, remember to take sea sickness tablets!

We had a whale of our time
Perfect Winters day out on the water and with in 40 minutes we saw our first whale off pelicans island. Further over past moon pt into Platypus bay. Saw several pods in the distance. 2 male juveniles 4..5 years old swam over to the boat immediately and began their dance around the boat for 20 minutes. It was awesome. Later we got to follow couple more who were breaching and fluke tail slapping. Next time we will go in September to see the mummas and bubbas.

      Fraser Island Explorer Day Tour
Had a great day out with Mark who was our bus driver on Fraser Island. Really got the most out of the day. The ferry ride across to Fraser Island was really smooth. He recommended the flight with Jessie on the island who is a great pilot. Thanks for the great day out.

      This is great!
Came in October at the end of whale watching season with friends, we chose this boat because it is the biggest one and most comfortable. It was such great experience, we saw a mother of whale with her baby and a big male playing together around the boat for more one hour, they were not scared of us at all. And the view of harbour was stunning! There were free snacks, tea and coffee provided.

This was something we’ve always wanted to do. So glad that we’ve finally ticked it off our bucket list. The tour ran for approximately 3 hours giving us a lot of time taking photos of those beautiful mammals. It was fun watching the whales having fun and showing off their tricks. Our guide gave us interesting information on whales we’ve never known before. We highly recommend this tour.

This is a large spacious boat and the operators are very professional and experienced. Unfortunately the whales were not feeling very social on the day I went out however we still managed to see quite a few pods but they weren’t coming as close to the boat as in previous times when I have been whale watching. Like the weather, it is not something anybody can control. That said, they were still pretty close and they were flapping and breaching which bought a few oohs and ahrs from passengers. I did a morning cruise from 0830 to 1230 and it was a lovely morning out, especially on the return journey when we cruised close to Fraser Island. I highly recommend a whale watching experience in Hervey Bay.

Wow , what an amazing experience we had this morning viewing a large number of young whales ( August) . The whales came up close to the stationary boat ( out past platypus bay ) and appeared to perform for us much to the absolute delight of everyone on board . The boat was very spacious and comfortable and staff knowledgeable and most friendly . We were lucky with the weather . The seas were calm yet we still saw a great number of whales . I would definitely recommend this whale viewing experience to everyone .

We did the Spirit of Hervey Bay morning whale watching cruise on Lyn's birthday, and were not disappointed. We were able to rebook on this boat at the last minute due to the cancellation of our original cruise on another boat because of mechanical issues...thanks to the team at "Spirit" for helping us out. We saw heaps of whales, some coming up right beside the boat to check us all out. We got morning tea (coffee + muffins) included in the $99 price, and the captain and crew were all very friendly and helpful. We would definitely cruise again on Spirit of Hervey Bay, and have no hesitation in recommending the trip to anyone wanting to see Humpback Whales.

We were collected from our accommodation and promptly left the harbour on time. At first we were worried we weren't going to see any whales but then we saw the most beautiful calf playing and breaching. The team onboard are full of knowledge and bad dad jokes and make the experience fun. The only downside is the morning tea on offer is very limited so if you have kids make sure you pack snacks and have cash to buy extra drinks etc.

Absolutely loved it. All the staff were fantastic. Tam gave me a business card with all the crews name on it to thank personally but I lost it somewhere on my travels. But big shout out to all the staff especially the captain and host on microphone as they were very knowledgeable and entertaining. They got us to where the whales were and they knew which ones were more likely to interact with us. We had whales come so close to the boat you could reach out and touch them. They even put the back platform down on the boat to get as close as you ever possibly could be to a whale. It was an amazing and unforgettable experience. Thanks also to Tam and your female comrade who were both friendly and helpful in spotting the whales and tips on how to attract their attention 🤗. Loved it so much, do yourself a favour and go !!! I’ll be back again

Great experience, with lots of whales sighted up close. The skipper was great, appeared to go out of his way, further out to get to some whales. The extra journey was well worth it. Whales swimming around and under the boat.

My only concern is social distancing in Covid times. Plenty of room on the trip to and from, but as soon as whales appeared, social distancing went out the window. Even at boarding and the line up for morning tea was crammed in. There was over 100 people on the boat, which was probably too many.
Covid safety was not mentioned at all by staff, aside from a cursory advice that there was sanitiser to use as you boarded.
Guess we have to hope we don't get sick in the next couple of weeks....

Thanks for your review. Pleased you had a good day out with us. We are aware that during the experience of whale watching, social distancing is very difficult to maintain due to passengers wishing to make the most of their opportunities to see the whales when they are beside or on one side of the vessel. Due to the number of levels and spaces both inside and outside of the vessel, the Spirit of Hervey Bay is well placed to provide separation between passengers, if you so desire. We suggest, if you are at all concerned about being amongst other people, we suggest you reconsider travelling with us at this time

I've been whale watching before but nothing has been so brilliant as our Hervey Bay whale watch trip with Spirit Of Hervey Bay. The catamaran was very spacious with plenty of viewing areas and even underwater viewing windows. And then there were the whales! Loads of them came up to the catamaran and stayed around for quite a while. We experienced everything - loads of breaches, tail dives, fin slaps and even some whales coming right up beside us and looking at us. It was an awesome experience and very memorable. We will be going back again! The staff on board were also excellent - the skipper gave us updates on sightings and other interesting facts, our guide on the boat pointed out where the next one was likely to come up - and he was right and the staff at the bar/cafe were lovely and friendly. They all did a great job from the time we were greeted until the time they said goodbye to us. Brilliant Job!

Reasonable Afternoon with the whales. Tried this one on our tenth whale watching cruise. Not as good as others in Hervey Bay in the past. Information was limited, very basic afternoon tea.

Boat was beautiful with smooth sailing on bay

Just get a better commentator as he does not compare to many others available

    Clean boat and facilities

Sorry we didn't meet your expectations for the commentary and afternoon tea, on your afternoon cruise with us. We do have an experienced crew, but sometimes you have to train a new person in the commentary and this takes time to be fluent.

We loved this tour. It was early in the whale migration season however we finally got to see some whale action in the afternoon. The staff and captain of our boat were very informative and friendly.
They have offered a discount when we come back through Hervey Bay if we want to do another tour and see the whales again.
Take a jacket as it can get breezy on the water. Well worth the price.
