The remote West Coast of K'gari (Fraser Island) is our ultimate destination....a place where few people have been. We also see Round Island, Big Woody Island and the stunning Pelican Bank on our way out to K'gari.

A great company to go with to see Humpback Whales in Hervey Bay
We did two trips with Whalesong (one in afternoon and one the next morning). We had booked and paid for the first afternoon with Pacific Whale Foundation but they cancelled us the day before so Whalesonf stepped in..... Both cruises were really good - on the afternnon cruise we saw around 18 different pods (each 2-3 whales) and - on the following morning cruise we saw around a dozen but they were very active, breaching and clapping their fins etc The crew were great and the Captain moved us in as close a possible without getting too close. The fee includes food - luch on the morning cruise or supper on the afternoon cruise - and it was a big plate of food! The boat is purpose built for whale watching so there are multiple decks / spaces to move around on to get the best possible views. also as a catermeran it is pretty stable - the usual front to back roll but limited side to side - which is good if anyone suffers from sea sickness Overall a very good two trips Best time per captain is from July to late Sept but we went first week of Oct and we saw loads of whales!!

        A whale of a time!
We had a thoroughly fascinating half day, with fine and windy weather. We were fortunate enough to see several whales (mothers, babies and some males) during the trip, and even to hear them via the undersea microphone. The baby Humpback whales spent time playing with each other, and around their mothers. It was thrilling to see the whales breaching through the water, waving their fins and slapping their tails. Took some photos and appreciated the captain's advice to use the video function to capture the breaching and tail slapping. We also some dolphins on the way back to harbour. We'll definitely go again.

Best half day whale watching cruise
The half day whale watching cruise was fantastic! The crew were very welcoming, helpful and knowledgeable. The food was fresh and generous. We saw 32 whales today that we counted. The boat was spacious and plenty of places to view the whales. I can't recommend Whalesong enough. 10/10

        Whalesong Sunset Whale Watching Cruise
We really enjoyed our sunset cruise with Whalesong. It was pretty choppy out on the water but our experienced captain spotted lots of active calves with their mums and safely steered us to within about 75 metres of them. He provided us with some great knowledge of these wonderful creatures. The crew were welcoming and did a fantastic job providing us with food and drinks throughout the cruise, especially given the rocky conditions. Communication with Bec was easy and we would definitely recommend Whalesong to our friends and family.

        Excellent crew, great boat
Though I booked the afternoon cruise, they called the day prior to suggest the morning cruise due to forecast winds. We switched & SO glad we did. For 1/2 a day we watched a calf play with us, splashing about & rolling over to look at us. The mother & a male ‘chaperone’ were huge to behold. We were lucky/crew was clever. Crew couldn’t do enough for us, answering questions and providing food & drink. Recommend for all (we were a family 10-70yo). All love it!

Whale of a time with whalesong cruises.
Absolutely fabulous. Skipper Doug focused on giving us THE best views of these amazing creatures without encroaching on them. Clean boat with exceptionally organised crew. Have to admit we thought seeing a humpback whale at say 500m is what we expected, but to see them so close was more than we could have hoped for. Crew members Janie and Lexi deserve thumbs up and a mention too! If ever back in Hervey Bay would definitely do this experience again.

Absolutely amazing experience, highly recommend! We saw heaps of whales breaching, heard them communicating with each other, up close and personal with also respecting the whales. The crew (Maddie and Doug) were so accommodating, informative and friendly. Will definitely be back again!

        Excellent tour
Excellent cruise, saw many whales. The mama whale teaching her young calf how to tail slap and breach a highlight and then comes the male trying to get mama’s attention breaching tail slapping but she did not welcome this male’s attention and was determined to shake him off, mama and her calf took off along the side of the boat with mama vocalising a big humph. The male then put on an astonishing show breaching many times and tail slapping so near our boat. We watched this for quite a while – we did see other whales but this was a great show. The commentary was interesting, dinner good and the crew outstanding

Whalesong Whale Watching Cruise, how good was that?
What a great way to spend an afternoon in the sun on a whale watching cruise. The staff and crew were very friendly and helpful and the service on board was great. The ships captain ensured we saw as many whales as we could in the time frame and his knowledge about the whales was terrific; very informative. Food & Drinks were really good and have already spoken to family and friends about going next year. Thank you

        Unforgettable!
Just had an amazing day with Whalesong Cruises! Aside from the unforgettable experience of seeing countless whales during our morning tour, the crew was super friendly, organised and efficient. We missed the name in particular of one thoughtful crew member who helpfully brought the lunch plates to my senior mum & aunt, saving them from having to balance on the boat and stand in line for the food 😀 The boat was very comfortable and not overly packed. Everyone had good views of the whales. Would highly recommend this cruise!

Had a great day out on the water and got to spend time at a beach swimming in clear blue warm waters. Snorkeling, kayaking beach cricket all included but what my teen boys loved the most was the tube rides (also included)…. They also loved jumping from the boat into the water when we got to the island. Morning tea and lunch were also provided nice and fresh. We selected hotel pick up and were greeted by friendly staff. I selected this tour going off other trip advisor suggestions but also it was attractive as we didn’t have to pay full adult fare for our teenage boys 15 and 17. Loved it and would do it again.

      ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT
      What an awesome experience
After approximately 50 Fraser Island tours throughout my life, I have never experienced such an amazing experience in this region
At $110 per adult, we were offered a 5 hour charter, which included over 2 hours of excitement on the beautiful Fraser Island
Lunch consisted of King Prawns, Steak, Sausages and a variety of salads.
Morning tea was a variety of fresh fruit, fruit cake and the most beautiful Madeira cake that one could ever desire
The crew were first class. The captain valued the safety of us all, and the female deckhand was an extremely hard working young lady that took pride in everyone's satisfaction on the day.
Even when we arrived back at the wharf for the completion of our journey, they let all of us feed the local fish that at the rear of their boat. This included a huge cod that was almost a metre long.
      This cruise deserves 10 stars
      It was simply amazing
Put it at the very top of the list of things to do
Oh, and a little tip. Purchase the cruise directly with them instead of an agent and you will receive a $15 on-board credit which can be used at their fully licensed bar.

WOW! What a fabulous review! Thanks so much for the thorough and extremely positive feedback....really appreciate it! "Never had such an amazing experience in this region and 10 stars out of 5"...we're so happy to see this! Our skipper and crew do such a wonderful job of looking after everyone and ensuring our guests are having a great time! They take pride in their work and love what they do....and it shows! We reward our guests who book direct with us as it ensures we are paid on time (and before the cruise, not up to 3 months after the cruise). A $10/adult and $5/child credit is the least we could do to show our appreciation. Top tip! We look forward to hosting you on board again sometime! Warm Regards Bec GM/Owner

We went on the first summer trip of their season. When we arrived we didn’t realise we were going to go onto the island and we weren’t sure about getting on and off the boat.
The team made it easy to get on and off and even provided chairs and umbrellas.

Overall it was a nice trip but it was made much better by a young lady named Mel. She checked in on us constantly, added humour and provided information about the island. The whole team was busy the entire day and went through a lot of effort to ensure it was run efficiently.

We look forward to coming back in whales next year.

The staff and experience were fantastic, and the island beach was beautiful. My 4 boys loved all the beach activities provided. I would highly recommend the experience.
Especially impressed with the way the staff handled the situation on our first attempt of the trip where we had to turn back literally as we reached the island due to poor weather conditions. We were able to reschedule without any problem to do the whole thing this time successfully 48 hrs later.

Thanks for the high recommendation and your wonderful 5 star review! Yes, it's a shame we had to turn back the first day. Sometimes we don't know how bad it is until we get over there. We always turn back though, if we deem it unsafe. It's great you were able to join us again a few days later. We're always more than happy to reschedule to ensure you get to enjoy the experience...it's too good to miss out on, isn't it!? Hope to see you again sometime.

Fraser Island beach is beautiful - great stretches of smooth sand - but you need to appreciate that there are no reefs around the island so although the water is lovely and clear, there is absolutely nothing to see in it. Dingos were no problem but knowing they are there stopped you venturing into the interior. Fishing tackle was well below par and my partner spent most of his time trying to get it to work (and he knows what he's doing). Snorkeling gear was a bit hit and miss and not much of it. Also pointless, as there's nothing to look at. A few kayaks were available but most people just used them for 10 mins or so as there is no particular place to aim for. There was a beach cricket set which was a hit with those with children. A small marquee was erected for shade (there's nothing on the beach at all) and a few chairs were available but not enough for the whole party. The crew worked hard with what little they had and the BBQ lunch back on the boat was very good.

Thanks for taking the time to review our Fraser Island Beach + BBQ cruise. Such a shame you didn't appear to enjoy the cruise as most other people do. We certainly do our best to cater to everyone on the boat and their needs for the day. Sounds like it didn't happen for you though. I'd like to address your concerns: - Dingoes: the skipper always gives his 'be dingo safe' talk before disembarking the main vessel. As he says, there many be some present, but you're generally fine if you're with someone else. We emphasise that children shouldn't be left to run around on their own. Apart from that, it is highly unlikely you will even encounter a dingo, let alone be bit by one. It's a shame it deterred you from venturing off the beach to discover the beauty of the interior. Many of our guests have looked around there, without any incident. Fishing tackle: As you would know, fishing tackle and sand don't mix well. Our equipment is perfect for just throwing in a line and having a go to catch a bit of whiting. No, it's not the best quality (we save that equipment for our optional fishing add-on which is not done on the beach) but serves it's purpose as a fun thing to do. As we provide ALL equipment for the trip (and it's not a specialised fishing trip), we cannot provide the highest quality equipment, for the price of the cruise. Also, we invite our guests to bring on their own equipment, if they wish. Some of our more serious fisherpeople do take us up on the offer and we're happy for them to have their own equipment on board. Snorkelling: you're correct, being a sandy bottom, there's not much to see besides bait fish, whiting and the odd ray or parrot fish. If it's a dedicated snorkelling trip you're after, then you'd find more variety of gear for your use. Kayaking: yes, there's no place to aim for. This whole experience is just about trying different things and having a go on the water. It's not a guided tour and our guests are able to do as much as they want or as little as they want (some take the kayaks out for a bit of fishing too...just a few whiting caught though). Shade: definitely no natural shade on the island. We erect 3-4 shades of 3x3 metres, depending on the number of people on the boat. This ensures that everyone gets to have some shade whilst they're not doing activities. In general, we provide enough decent equipment for the numbers we have on the boat. As we take up to 40 guests sometimes, we don't have 40 of everything on board...it would take us too long to transport it all to the island. This just means sharing with others and most people tend to understand that. Everyone gets to have a go at everything they want to and the crew is always there to assist. One of our crew has been fishing all his life, so would've helped you sort out the fishing equipment if he'd have known. Glad to see you enjoyed your lunch back on the boat.

This was a last minute booking for us as there was a mix up by our tour operator and our proper full day K'gari tour got cancelled.
We had a good time all in all. The staff were friendly and the cruise was fairly smooth. 3 of us did the dingy ride which was good fun. There were a few rain downpours but we managed to shelter and it didn't spoil the day.
Lunch back on the boat was a bit disorganised and it set off before many of us had finished eating and how windy it was made it quite impossible to enjoy it fully.

We had an awesome day on the cruise with BBQ. The crew are friendly, approachable and very good at getting their jobs done with no fuss. It’s obviously a professionally run business and the crew make what they are doing look effortless.
We loved the trip over and back and the food was fresh and refreshing. We were pleased with what was on offer and the portions were good sizes.
The beach itself is immaculate and the water was beautiful but we couldn’t go past the ride on the tube... go hard or go home!!
Would definitely go again and also recommend to everyone for either groups or couples or families.
We can’t wait for whale season to book a trip with them again.

We were so impressed with how well everything was organised! Everything ran on time; the crew were fantastic, friendly & helpful & the food was delicious! The boat is beautiful and the activities were great! So reasonably priced for what you get; highly recommend this tour during your stay in Hervey Bay 🙌

Great weather and the cruise was well run and the food yummy! The crew were friendly and the boat clean and well kept.
The local Hump Backed Dolphins seen on the way home was a bonus😊
