- DarienJim0 contributionsBeautiful and the drive from South is amazingThis is a can't miss visit and very easy walk where there are several lookout locations to view the rocks. Apparently you need to time the tide to high tide to see the blow holes work (we were mid tide and saw nothing) but the views are still incredible.Written 10 January 2024
- SandraR84280 contributionsFamily visit to PunakaikiThe rock formations are fantastic. Paths on the walk are great. A pity though that you can't take a dog on lead on the path.Written 5 January 2024

- Travel404725343060 contributionsTotally worth visiting...WORTH stopping to view this amazing formation of rocks. We were there at low tide and I wondered if we had of timed it for high tide how ferociously spectacular it would have been in comparison to the low tide which was ALSO very beautiful. Definitely worth visiting... amazing Mother Nature wowing us with her splendour...Written 30 May 2023
- Terri M0 contributionsPancake Rocks and BlowholesThe guide was a local who was very knowledgeable, interesting, friendly and accommodating. A thorough professional. The scenery was brilliant (as expected from this lovely country, New Zealand). The Pancake rocks and blow holes path is easy to walk at your own pace. Highly recommend this tour.Written 13 May 2023

- 782gretah0 contributionsInteresting sites near GreymouthNew small bus, cranky but actually very nice guide, beautiful coast, interesting rocks and plants, this was a great way to spend 3+ hours after the train from Christchurch and before hitting the pubs. Plus, we didn’t need to rent a car for our night in Greymouth.Written 9 April 2023
- 102jillb0 contributionsAmazing natural siteAbsolutely impressed by this natural wonder, we were advised to go near high tide and saw amazing wave surges in the blow holes. Our tour guide Trevor Molloy has a lifetime's knowledge and experience of the area and shared many local treasures and anecdotes that a self guided day tripper would otherwise miss along the way.
* Well paced and entirely led by individual interests and ability on the day
In spite of rain and mist, which added to drama and atmosphere, this was well worth the soggy boots. No refreshments at The Gorge, so refuell at Tree Tops cafe or take a flask

TREE TOP WALKWAY - This is an amazing tree top walk on an excellently built structure and easy to access. Part of the way along the walkway there is also a tower which is about 40 metres above ground level and by climbing up this you get an even greater view of the native forest and you can look out upon Lake Mahinapua. Lots of birds in the trees and back on the ground we saw several Weka's which were amazing to watch. Beautiful countryside and so peaceful.

We did the walk again after a number of years and it was a good experience the views were stunning, looking forward to returning to do the Zipline in the future. Afterwards we enjoyed a good coffee at the Cafe but due to staffing shortages there was no kitchen open. That's such a shame when they are one the Wilderness trail and lots of cyclists were stopping off for food and refreshments

The West Coast Travel team is abysmal at communication and honestly ruined the entire overall experience for me due to a lack of courtesy, professionalism and communication. After the initial booking confirmation email, I received no correspondence from them in the week leading up to my trip. And despite the many emails I sent off asking for confirmation that my pick up address was confirmed, I received no correspondence from them. It got to the day of, and despite my many emails and then several calls that morning, still no confirmation from their end. So I was required to travel myself from Hokitika to Greymouth to go and sort out the issue in person, and which after some scrambling from the person working there, eventually led to a delayed day tour.
But honestly I would have much preferred a refund. Then I could have taken myself to both the Hokitika Gorge and the Treetop walkway, and had more than three quarters of my money left. The 195NZD I was charged was ultimately not worth it given the Treetop adult ticket id 36NZD and the Hokitika Gorge walk is free (and currently half closed for bridge maintenance, so half of it is entirely inaccessible so be aware).
My guide was a lovely lady who tried her best to make up the experience despite the admin mistakes, but unfortunately I had just been entirely demoralised by the difficulties I had trying to communicate with the West Coast Travel office that I couldn’t fully appreciate the tour.
Definitely take the drive out yourself. A hire care for the day would likely end up being cheaper overall.

Many interesting viewpoints along the way. The gorge walk was though, but worth It. The treetop walkway gives the impression of being in another world... I would've preferred the two to be separate exploration activities though...a bit tough on those who don't have the time or the inclinación to tackle both in one go.

Wow! Bob picked us up from Hotel Lake Brunner and took us back to Hokitika for the tour. It was just my husband and I on the tour which was kind of neat really. Bob is a fountain of knowledge, telling us about all the different things on the way.
Hokitika Gorge is just truly amazing, the water was a milky blue due to all the rain and was just stunning. The walk is easy with beautiful scenery, swing bridges and lush forest.
The tree top canopy walk was great. This attraction has been well designed and again is an easy walk.
We stopped in Greymouth for lunch on the way back and saw a bit of the town which was great as we had not been there for around 25 years.
Thank you Bob for a great day out.

Exceeded our expectations. Picked up from our accommodation on time and met Trev our driver who made the trip memorable with his vast local knowledge. A real West Coast amdasador. Unfortunately raining when we left Greymouth but miraculously cleared when we arrived at the Hokatika Gorge and the treetop walkway. Both venues were amazing in their own ways. Got us back to the Transalpine train on time. This tour was a trip highlight and we loved it.

Every time you turn a corner, there is somethng even more brathtaking to look at. I could have spent hours ther just been bowled over by the natural beauty. Make sure that you are wearing sensible shoes as there is a fair bit of walking invovled and some of it is up hill.
The mini bus driver, Bob, was lovely. Knowledgable and very friendly. Lots of local stories and a great advocate for New Zealand.
if you get the chance to do this trip, do it!

It took us about an hour to do the Hokitika Tree Top Walkway. The walk was very easy. The scenery was very nice. For people that want more thrills, you can take a zip line from the top of a tower to the starting point. There is also a cafe for light refreshments.
