About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Linda N0 contributionsGreat wineries and breweries tourGreat day out. Venues were excellent especially Jarvis winery. Lovely bunch of people on the trip which always helps in my opinion and Dan the driver was wonderful. Very friendly and helpful. Would recommend this companyWritten 20 January 2024
- GaryC3610 contributionsA relaxing day sampling fine wines and beers. The tour overall was memorable. A well managed small group tour of boutique wineries and breweries. Dan our driver was very good, his knowledge of the region was notable and the itinerary was spot on with a balanced selection of venues. Lunch was provided along with a selection of beers. The charcuterie plate for two was delicious. This tour is highly recommended and our group leader Dan as our designated driver was top notch. A free pick up within the Margaret River area was also included.Written 19 October 2023
- SERGIOHDUDBNKEBKXJNW0 contributionsAwsome day outVery good experience, been to Margs twice and of all tours that I've done this was my favourite, called up the evening before to ask for available spots and the owner allowed myself and a friend to book and pay over the phone quick and easy, wether you're a more classy drinker or you're there to (be that guy and) have some fun, almost everyone is guaranteed to get along in the end, and what made it better was the little things, like at the end the driver allowed us all to make a stop home to leave our wine before taking us all to our desired spot to continue the night with our new mates.Written 28 January 2022
- calshocks0 contributionsReally Great Day Out - Highly RecommendRussell was a legend of a tour guide with a great playlist belting through out the day. The wineries and breweries we went to were more than generous with their pouring and the food was good. It was really great value for money and we had the best day. I would definitely go again and would recommend anyone going to Margaret River to do this tour over any other. Thanks Russell you really made the tour.Written 6 April 2021
- NixterPerth0 contributionsBootleg Brewery lost Margies BDO a rating pointThis was the second tour we’ve done with them and I wouldn’t hesitate to book with them again, but Bootleg Brewery needs to come off their default lunch choice. Here’s why I love BDO but why I didn’t rate Bootleg this time. Pros •Wes! Awesome guy, picked us up on time and had the perfect balance of interaction with us. We enjoyed his conversation and company. •Entirely different wineries and breweries on offer this time that we didn’t go to last time (except for bootleg). Jarvis Estate was a winner. Thanks Sara for the education. •Solid six hours. Cons •Chocolate factory is neither here nor there, literally little buttons to sample out of a help yourself dispenser and the visit is purely to buy things. Bootleg Brewery •Platters were fine but no where near as good as they used to be. •They catered to my request for a vegan option but it contained beans (nice), avocado dip (nice) but then just crackers, corn chips and Turkish dip with dukkah, eevo and balsamic. Basically loaded up on cheaper carbs. •Hot chips were nice. •Incredibly unkept, it was old and needs some new life put into it. •Lawn was long and patchy and very uninviting. •Service friendliness needed improving. Appreciate Wes bringing our beers but explanations on tasting notes would have been nice. If I did this tour again I’d make sure I requested not to go to bootleg, as that would be the difference between me booking with/recommending this tour over others.Written 18 March 2021
- gilese20140 contributionsAwesome dayHad an awesome day out with 14 of us. Had the bus all to ourselves and was exceptionally hosted by Wayne. He took care of everything for us. All we had to do was drink and eat. Can’t believe we haven’t done this in the past, but will definitely be doing it again Thanks.Written 31 October 2020
- tpenang0 contributionsBeer and wine tourI've been on a few wine tours and thought this one was definately one of the better ones. Very well organised at each winery. Pick up and dropoff at our hotel. Driver was very good and well knowledged. Tasty lunch at the brewery. Good choice of wineries, was nice to see some smaller ones that were off the beaten trail. Definately reccomend this tour.Written 21 September 2020

- Jan T0 contributionsGreat Day OutI organized a private tour for 10 people last week. I rang Russell who was really helpful, made excellent suggestions for which wineries to go to (our favourite was Domaine Naturaliste) and suggested Flutes for lunch. The driver Wayne was great fun and everyone had a fabulous time. I would definitely recommend this great day out! Thanks guys, will organize another tour in March!Written 9 November 2019

- Safari5291980 contributionsDisappointing so called wine tourA bit dissapointing being two couples / friends the only ones on the tour.Driver was good but one winery was so tight with thier tastings & we got the move along for another tour was nothing short of rude. The chocolate factory wasnt a tour or tasting.Just dropped off to sample three lots of choc buds..Crap The farm house brewery was great but wasn't a tour or tasting.Had to pay for everything ourselves. How was this a seven stop paid for wine tour.It wasn't. Better off doing a tour yourself & having $400 to spend on grog.Written 31 December 2018

Had an awesome time. We booked 9 adults & 2 children (4yr & 5mths) and managed to get the tour all to ourselves. Wayne was our bus driver & guide and he was excellent at remembering our names & checking that we were all happy. Before the tour I didn't know what to expect as I have done wine tours in Perth (in the Swan Valley) that were cheaper but now that I've done Margies tour I realised what good value it was. For starters, other wine tours would serve you pizza for lunch, but Margies stopped at Bootleg Brewery and we had the most AWESOME food platters. They also catered for the Vegetarians and a vegan in our group. I have a feeling, that no other wine tour that I do in the future will beat this. Also, a bonus of being a group booking was we saved time. Being picked up at the same location, meant that we could linger a bit longer (i.e. take our time) at the last venue as Wayne said he only needs to drop us off (i.e he doesn't need to drive around everywhere dropping people off at various places). I thought the amount of wine & beer tastings was sufficient. I even skipped a few tastings just so I could pace myself.
FYI - my friend had her 4yr old and she took some pens & paper with her and had a great time at all the wineries. plus lots of grass areas to play in.

We had the most fabulous day out with Margies Big Day Out Beer and Wine Tour ( mad Monday’s) today!
Wayne was a fantastic driver and tour guide as he chauffeured ten of us to 3 wineries, the gin distillery and the chocolate factory.
Wayne was very knowledgeable and knew the roads like the back of his hand. Prompt pickup and drop off times and none of our stops on the way disappointed!
Thanks so much to Wayne and the team for showing us the best day out! For $100 per person it was well and truly worth it!!

This South West Outfit tailors a day out for those who can relax in the broader community. Although, it is far from a black tie event (Look at their billed picture!!)
I have been reading many of the 1 star comments and am disappointed people no longer communicate their issues directly with those responsible on the day.
I have done this trip several times and enjoyed the onboard banter between drivers and patrons on all occasions , in all weather conditions. As with most boozed fuelled events, they begin reserved and by the end of the day most people are roaring with joy. Team Big Day have been at this for many years. The people they employ are generally very out going and customer friendly.
I no longer do this trip for the beers and wines. I engage in the social aspect of meeting other travellers that enjoy ''Life'' If something goes south, move on.
It's a small bus that with the right people onboard can go ''Off'' and on all my past trips , have really gone Off!!. Some drivers have read the Riot Act!! (lol)
Those who say they could save the $$$'s and do their own show are missing the point. The Tour offers Door to Door service. A running history of the area which I discovered 30 years ago. Offers a balanced exposure to the local produce and maintains a timely schedule.
Believe me, you won't see 6 hours fly faster than this one.
For those who complained about the shared service at the Bootleg, I'm just blown away. There is a service counter there, still hungry? Order more! Most people are satisfied with the Tour offerings, I have always been.
All Tour operations are demanding, most people are demanding. As stated B4 I've done this Tour several times with great memories. I hope the Covid lockdowns have not destroyed this great one of a kind business. I'll be back!!

We created our own itinerary of wineries and lunch venue which was received by Russell one month prior to our booking date and confirmed. However, five minutes prior to the bus arriving on the day, we received a message advising there had been a “screw up” with the booking at our lunch venue, so we were automatically booked into Bootleg Brewery (despite requesting wineries only). Upon getting in the mini bus, Jacinta clarified the fees involved in wine tastings that Russel reportedly advised us of prior (we had no knowledge of this). Jacinta also advised that of the five wineries we selected we would only be visiting two. The remaining three were made up of a different winery and two breweries (without being advised prior to the tour and asked if we would like to visit these). Later in the day we arrived at Bootleg Brewery where we were seated and had two bowls of chips brought to the table (for 8 people) and some basic, small cheese boards to share. There was no option to choose our own lunch from the menu to cater for dietary requirements of people on our tour. There also was not enough food and was more of an afternoon snack, so we all left hungry. Russel was at Bootleg whilst we had lunch and appeared very friendly with Bootleg staff, so it made us wonder if this was a way of making further profit for him.
We were all very disappointed with the above and given the price paid, however Jacinta made the trip so enjoyable for us! Whilst in the wineries, Jacinta spent time calling other venues to find us venues we would enjoy, in between taking hundreds of photos for us all. Jacinta also managed to squeeze in a visit to the chocolate factory and Providore after our disappointing lunch. Jacinta was extremely friendly and genuine and was eager to get to know our tour group which made it feel a lot more personal. Jacinta was empathetic and understanding of our situation and did all she could to ensure we all still had a wonderful day, which we did thanks to Jacinta. We all said we would have bailed on the tour if it wasn’t for Jacinta. She is a credit to Margie’s Big Day Out.
In addition to this, we were reportedly the third group this happened to this week, so please be mindful when booking.

We do our best to try and accommodate requests where possible. I do believe the situation was explained at the time so I don't wish to make this long. We are disappointed we couldn't meet your expectation at this crazy time, happy the Jacinta was able to make some changes for you.

Specifically called the company to get itinerary so I didn't double up on venues (had another tour booked during my stay). After getting in the bus, discovered that the venues we were visiting were different to what I had been messaged.I had planned my trip with the understanding I would be visiting the locations I had been messaged.
There was no introduction by the driver until we arrived to the first venue.
Driver allowed us to choose the music, which would have been good except the age differences between the members meant our tastes were wildly different. It of course ended up that people started skipping through songs before they had finished because they were bored with it, or there was a song that only one group liked. The driver should have had a playlist ready of easy to listen to songs - I was on this tour in Jan 2020 and the driver at that time did this and it was a much better experience.
Winery experiences were OK. Brewery experiences were disappointing. For a brewery tour, there was no tasting of the beers. Driver just brought out entire jugs of one type of beer and would only get another type when it was finished. I would have preferred it treated like the winery, where we had the opportunity to sample all the types. That is why I went on a brewery tour instead of just a winery tour.
At the end of the day, had some random young guys ask the driver if they could get a lift back into town with their bikes as they were tired. Driver didn't ask for anyone's thoughts on it and let them on while everyone squished up to allow their bikes on.
Messaged all these issues to the owner - no response. No apology, or anything.
This tour in 2020 was so good that I came back again, as well as recommending it to others, but this experience will make me not recommend it again.

Hi Scott I understand your frustrations with the day as it didn't go as planned for you.
The itinerary needed to be changed as the original venues wouldn't take the number of passengers on the bus.
we have installed blue tooth access to the sound system on the bus to allow everyone to play music that they enjoy. Mostly the people are very good about sharing access and also playing music that is generally suitable to everyone. This is a first that there was not a sharing attitude and I may have to rethink that access. Thanks for advising of this problem.
As you have been on the tour previously, I'm sure you would have had the pleasure of lunch at Bootleg & the drinks that we bring to the table. We have had the same situation at lunch for many years now.
Appreciate the feedback on allowing the young guys the lift back with their bikes. We don't have a problem with this sort of assistance but you are right in saying that it should not have inconvenienced anyone on the bus. I have spoken to the driver about this and he will definitely be talking with the people on the bus before he does anything in the future.
Thanks for your feedback Scott we will always try to be better.

Not what we expected to be honest.
This tour advertises a beer and wine tasting with three tastings included.
We went to Rivendell winery and Wills Domain winery for tastings so only 2 included.
No beer tastings at all.
Went on a tour last year which brought paddles of beer to sample with jugs of each beer at no cost.
Had to pay for many drinks and the driver was not informative at all. Played very loud head banging music on the bus which is ok I suppose when you've had a few but not at 10.30am. Would have rather him communicate where we were going.
The clutch had gone on the bus and stalled several times indicating that we were nearly ready to break down.
Would not book this tour again. You do not get what is advertised.
Long story short it cost us $ 120.00 each for two tastings and lunch.

Hi and thanks for the review. The driver did explain to everyone that the bus did require mechanical work to be completed but at Christmas / New year that wasnt going to happen. We also had a bus hired to replace and were informed on the morning of your tour that there were none available due to overbooking. The decision was then was do we run the tour and disappoint everyone, or use the bus. we chose to not disappoint. Guess not everyone was grateful, or had a sense of excitement.
Thanks for your comments anyway.

My partner and I have done a number of whole day wine tours in the south west and this one is definitely NOT recommended.
Russell the bus driver didn’t even bother to introduce himself when we got on to the bus, and then proceeded to drive like a manic for the next one and half hours picking up everyone all over the place before the tour even started.
We had to pay for two out of the three wine tastings, no commentary throughout the day about the region, the wineries, breweries or other places we were dropped at- we were simply dropped at locations and left to it- the beer places we went to- no tastings just left to wander in and buy a drink!
Most of the others on the tour were disappointed by the lack of info and interaction and I felt sorry for the interstate visitors who were given no info on the region.
There are far better companies to spend your money on. Don’t patronise this business.

Hi Melhop
I agree it wasn't the best day but under the circumstances it was the best I could do. The alternative was to cancel, & that was the lesser of two options.
Drivers calling Friday to let me know they couldn't do a Saturday tour certainly messes everything, especially when I was not well myself.

The day started fine we were picked up on time as we were the only two on the tour then proceeded to our first stop Jarvis winery where we were introduced to Sara which was very informative as she provided tastings and information re the running and produce from the winery. Our next stop was lunch, Wes our driver asked whether we would like to visit more wineries or breweries we advised we would visit based on his recommendations as we mentioned that we weren't that big on wine and that we did the beer brewery tour last year which we enjoyed. Arrived at our lunch stop which was Black brewery our driver escorted us in, then we were asked to pick a meal off the menu to which neither of us would have intentionally dined as there was nothing that appealing so here where it continues to go downhill. Driver places our orders for lunch then retreats back to the mini bus after some brief conversation, no gourmet lunch as advertised, no beer or cider tasting with lunch as advertised. After completing our not so good lunch the driver reappears so we can continue our journey next stop Wild Hop brewery dropped off in the carpark we had 45 mins to do as we please then back on the bus next stop Cowamamup brewing dropped off in the car park 45 mins again back on the bus next stop and last Colonial brewing dropped off in the car park you guessed it 45mins back on the bus our driver stayed in the bus the whole time we had no beer commentary or any further tasting after our first stop nor did we visit any Cheese or chocolate tasting as described. Everything advertised very little delivered and very over priced for what we got as it cost a lot more than I anticipated having to purchase all of our drinks for the afternoon.
Very disappointed and definitely wouldn't recommend this tour which is unfortunate as there seems to be a lot of positive reviews but didn't deliver on this occasion.

Thanks for the review Geoff. Disappointed that you saw the tour in this way as your driver Wes asked many times which venues you would like to visit, including if you wanted to visit the Chocolate Factory & Cheese tastings. Obviously not your type of tour.

First cellar door stop we were there at wrong time so double booked. Bus was unclean aircon smelt. Driver hardly interacted with us. Drive was uncomfortable and one passenger was car sick. Nothing to help with her or to clean up. Overall not a good experience.

Excited about this tour but let down tbh. I love dogs but the bus smelt of drivers dog and a wine tour in this area you expect some class, at least a little. Dog hair everywhere. People do get dressed up sometimes for these tours. Driver was nice guy but totally disinterested in whole tour and non informative about anything. Tastings at 3 wineries were average and third winery we had to pay for tasting anyway! Lunch was ok but a tour we did a few months back was same lunch at Bootle brewery.. At least on that tour we got a heap of drinks. At Bootleg we had a shooter of each beer to taste. Last stop, Wild Hop Brewery, no drinks inlcuded. So all in all 5 stops, 2 tastings at wineries and equivalent of a middy at Bootleg with lunch. BYO music, driver was happy listening to 720 news. Zzzzz. No vibe. Afterwards we had to drive back into Dunsborough to return other passengers so got back into Margs much later than expected. Also - should be noted that if bus full, which our tour was - two people will be on single seats, which sucked for us being a couple. Wouldn't recommend, sorry.

We are very sorry that you didn't enjoy the tour. We always enjoy the feedback as it does help us with making the tour an enjoyable experience for all. Interesting comment with the music as most people love having the opportunity to choose their own.

Which accommodations are included in the pick-up/drop-off? Is there a specific radius/area?
