The 4 day cruise along the Murray River aboard the Emmylou was amazing. The sunset was gorgeous The food was excellent and the crew were wonderful. Five Star experience on a unique boat.
The whole experience was excellent. All the crew learnt everyone's name by dinner the first night. Nothing was a problem. The chef,Greg, prepared exceptional food the whole tour, and Amy at front of house ensured impeccable service of food and beverages. Scotty the skipper was a wealth of information regarding Paddle Steamers and the Murray River in general. Anthony the engineer was only too happy to explain the working of the engine and pitch in whenever something needed to be done. The tour was a good balance of organised excursions and down time on board to appreciate the beauty and tranquillity of the River. If you are thinking of doing a Murray River cruise then this one

An Amazing 4 Nights on the PS Emmylou
What an incredible experience on the PS Emmylou for 4 nights! From the moment we stepped aboard, we were made to feel so welcome, and the entire cruise was a luxurious, relaxing getaway. We didn’t have to lift a finger – just sit back, unwind, and enjoy the chilled-out atmosphere along the Murray River. Whether it was with a good book or jotting down some poetry, the vibe was perfect. Amy, our fantastic hostess, made sure we never had to ask for anything. She pre-empted our requests for food or drinks, ensuring we were always comfortable, and her warmth made us feel right at home. The food was equally amazing, with Chef Greg serving up delicious meals that kept us well-fed throughout. The all-inclusive nature of the cruise, including meals and alcoholic drinks with dinner, added to the carefree experience. Our cabin was comfortable, equipped with its own air conditioning and a wonderful rain shower with excellent water pressure. The bed was cosy, but I recommend bringing only carry-on-sized luggage to maximise cabin space. The cruise itself was packed with delightful experiences. Our first night, spent at a tranquil bush mooring, was magical. Watching the PS Emmylou bathed in the glow of the sunset was unforgettable. We also enjoyed a fantastic walk at Restdown Winery, where we had lunch in a cool underground wine cellar and sampled some excellent organic wines. The third day’s long, seven-hour cruise was blissfully relaxing, and we learned so much about steam engines during a fascinating session with our talented Captain/Engineer, Scotty. The entire crew, including Ross and Warren, wore multiple hats, acting as tour guides, bus drivers, skippers, and entertainers, and they did so with passion and joy. Their love for their work shone through in everything they did. One highlight was the stunning evening BBQ by candlelight, held by the river with the PS Emmylou as a backdrop. The food was delicious, and the fireside entertainment was such a delightful, unexpected surprise. On our final day, we enjoyed a tour of Echuca, led by the entertaining and knowledgeable Beth, whose family ties to the area made the experience even more special. She’s also one of the few female skippers and engineers in Australia, which was inspiring to learn. We opted for the 4-night cruise, and it was the perfect choice for a fully immersive, relaxing trip. I highly recommend booking one of the multiple-night cruises with Murray River Paddle Steamers. I’m excited to hear that a new boat, the Australian Star, is launching in 2025 and will surely continue the high-quality, personal service that this team offers. Thank you to the entire crew for an amazing, unforgettable experience!

      What a great experience!!
What a great experience! The food was wonderful. All the other passengers were so friendly. Three full meals plus morning and afternoon tea each day! And the crew was awesome! Shout out to Amy for taking such good care of us!! We've done river cruising in Europe and the USA and this is by far the best experience. We saw kangaroo, wallaby, wombats and dozens of birds that you only see in the pet stores back in the states. The accomodations are not luxurious but adequate. With everything to see, you won't spend much time in your room. They have a new paddle steamer, PS Star, coming on line in 2025. We will be coming back in a few years to try that one.

      Best Week's Holiday Ever
At 80 years of age, I enjoy travelling solo. This was my second cruise on the EmmyLou, my first six months ago, which probably speaks for my pleasure in this holiday. My fellow guests were very compatible company. The peaceful hours of cruising were probably the best, as I enjoyed the trees, the prolific bird activity, the rhythmic thrum of the engine and the skill of the skipper navigating the river. I loved every onshore excursion, - wineries, museums, historical and indigenous sites - all accompanied by very knowledgeable guides. Another highlight came from three campfire nights with music and yarning, laughter - and warm blankets! The white tablecloth dining was exceptional with choices from a superb A+ Chef, and local wines. Underpinning all this was the passion which each member of the crew had for the Murray and the EmmyLou, and their willingness to share their love. I'll be back, guys (dv)

      A Most Memorable Adventure
How serene to cruise along the majestic Murray on the grand old PS Emmylou, to the rhythm of the steam engine, paddles turning gently in the water, and plumes of steam streaming behind. The onshore tours provided another delightful dimension, with much to see and learn. It was a glorious cruise, beginning on the first night with songs around the campfire, under a starry, starry sky, after a fabulous onboard dinner. The superb food and wine continued to flow over the entire time, as did the warm hospitality of the whole crew who, in various ways, help to make it a most memorable adventure.

      Personal attention
We loved the personal attention nothing was to much trouble we also loved the small number of cruising couples on the Emmylou We loved the white table cloths for dinner and the little extras (wild flowers from the shore line ) that made our dining experience more pleasurable The off shore excursions where very informative but still allowing enough time to enjoy cruising up the Murray River.

      Brilliant! A trip to remember
An amazing 7 nights aboard PS Emmylou for a 70 birthday celebration. Our thanks to 1st crew; Scott, Julie, Greg & Caleb, followed by 2nd crew Richard, Chris, Anthony & Andrew. We enjoyed nothing less than 5 star service, cruising with a group of likeminded people and friendships formed. Amazing meals from breakfast through to dinner with morning & afternoon tea between. Perfect weather conditions for relaxing between off shore excursions, all enjoyable especially the incredible silo murals. Out thanks also to Ross our informative bus driver, Waza who entertained us with songs and stories & Beth tour guide & skipper of PS Canberra. To everyone who made our cruise an unforgettable trip we thank you! Paul & Pauline ACT

      Calm and Adventure
There's nothing quite like steaming along the Murray River to the rhythmic background of a real steam engine! All the cares of the world seem to evaporate as the gum trees pass gently by. Enjoy excellent food and good company and it really is the ultimate adventure. How many other holidays can you go on that revolve around technology that is a couple of centuries old? There really is nothing like it. On our trip we also discovered a lot about wetlands and the water issues of today as well

      Third trip on the Emmylou
Our 7 day trip was wonderful !!! We visited many different places including beautiful Perricoota Station homestead, took cruising trips on the Murray River from Echuca on the 110 year old P.S.Canberra and the Murray Explorer, went to the amazing Beer Shed, which is not just a beer shed and of course the Australian BBQ around the campfire on the riverbank with Wazza singing and playing his guitar. All the staff you could see loved their jobs and gave us a wonderful time. The Emmylou was a peaceful and relaxing trip on the Murray River. So Please have a trip on the Emmylou you will definitely enjoy yourself.

    Just facts:
We booked this cruise and noted that the contract we signed said that, in the event of Murray River Paddlesteamers cancelling the cruise, we would receive a full refund.
Our tour was cancelled because of flooding along the river. People on shorter tours were immediately refunded in full.
The company refused to refund money on four-night cruises, offering us instead the option of a transfer to a future date.
We are in our seventies, not rich and live in the U.K. We can’t be sure of having the money or the health to return to Australia at some unknown point in the future.
When we pointed this out, they told us to contact our insurance company.
Our insurance company were not sure whether they would be able to pay out because the problem was caused by a natural disaster. They referred us to our credit card company.
The credit card company refunded our money in full.
We won’t be recommending Murray River Paddlesteamers to anyone in the future!

Four days steaming down the Murray river was one of the best holidays I've ever had. I absorbed the beautiful river, was looked after in every way: by singing skipper Warren, Anthony the engineer, Julie front of house and Chris the chef who created superb meals out of the tiny galley. The rooms were snug. I didn't want to get off Emmylou.

My husband and I needed to de-stress and found a totally stress free holiday on Emmy Lou. From the instant we met the welcoming crew we felt at ease and welcomed.
Skipper Warren (wazzah) navigated Emmy Lou with ease, he was also our historian revealing his passion for the river and the Paddle Steamers. Wazzah entertained us around the camp fires with his Guitar and songs.
Jeff the engineer looked after the amazing steam engine that powered our Paddle boat with expertise. He gave a talk one afternoon that was extremely informative explaining the workings of an 18th Century invention; Steam power. A step back in time.
Our Dining Crew Julie and Greg fed us some truly magnificent Culinary delights. Master Chef Greg worked tirelessly to present each meal and snack for the pure pleasure of each passenger. I was so grateful and impressed at how Greg made sure my “special” dietary needs were not only met; but to perfection. Julie was the most welcoming host, greeting us all as we entered the dining room, making sure of comfort by attenting to all of our needs. Greg and Julie so made our experience on Emmy Lou magnificent!
Ross, our coach driver, took us to some very interesting places when Emmy Lou was moored. His knowledge of the local area was broad and informative.
We arrived back into Port of Echuca energised and refreshed. We loved our Emmy Lou 4 Night escape and would highly recommend it.

Had a wonderful time, pity it wasn't longer. Skipper (Warren) and his crew looked after all our needs - especially the eating experience. Thinking about booking the 7 day cruise on the Australian Star.
We were in the Emmylou suite (12 sq metres), which was fine for us, but others said they were quite cramped in their rooms (6.5 sq metres) - maybe the cabins will be bigger in the new boat.

We so enjoyed our sailing on the PS Emmylou on the Murray River.  It will be one of our fondest memories of a most fabulous experience.  Not only the sailing, but the way we were looked after by all staff, who were very kind and helpful, and also very generous in sharing their knowledge of the Murray River, the flora and fauna, the workings of the paddle steamer, history of the paddle steamers etc.  The chef created fabulous meals every day, and the front of house made mean cups of coffee! Thank you PS Emmylou River Cruise!  We cannot recommend this trip highly enough.  Go and do it!

It was a great fun cruise.
    Pros:
The crew made us feel more like family than customers. Nothing was too much trouble.
The company is able and willing to assist in any part of the organisation of your trip.
The added excursions were very informative and enjoyable.
The food was excellent and very plentiful.
    Con:
It is a small boat requiring mobility.

We would totally recommend the cruise to anyone wanting a fun educational trip.

After maybe 5 or 6 previous cruises on Emmylou varying from an hour to 4 or 5 days since the mid 80's, this cruise offered way more off boat experiences. True this one offered only one full relaxed day enjoyed without a reason to disembark, meandering along the Murray amidst the background of untamed nature & the rhythmic sound of the paddlewheel caressing the current. True the vertical bunk beds and midnight walks to the on-deck toilet room are now a distant past memory. However, the food and convivial atmosphere remains a constant unforgettable and valued small group experience where strangers became trusted friends buoyed by sharing wonderful experiences, past and present!

The gentle pace and old-world service is a rare experience these days. The river and the boat are the stars of the show, but the supporting cast is great. The crew are very committed and love what they do. The food is wonderful and plentiful. It helps to be a person who admires nature, is happy to chat with others, and is interested in a bit of history. It is a holiday that felt like a holiday, and one which I will remember for a long time. Now - can I just get my mum to come along?

We went with high expectations and they were well exceeded due, mainly, to the outstanding crew of four (Warren, Julie, Greg, and Anthony) who were unfailingly helpful, positive, cheerful and delivering the experience way beyond their call of duty. The service in all aspects was 10/10, the food 10/10, the hospitality and company 10/10, and the overall experience 10/10. The winery/farm excursion was brilliant and very inspiring and the evenings around the campfire with great banter and singalong music were great fun.

As the Emmylou is a touch older, like most of the guests, there are a few signs of wear and tear and it's sometimes hard to get entirely comfortable; but maybe that was the boat or just my grinding bones! Maybe an 8/10. However, the cabins are fit for purpose, the ensuite shower excellent, and there is very little time spent in them other than for sleep. There are places to sit around the boat, both inside and out, to enjoy the Murray bushland banks drift slowly past. It is very relaxing.

The river is tranquil rather than spectacular and still and peaceful in the cool August mornings, then clearing to simply beautiful days. The warm blankets were plentiful in the evening, just like the exceptional range (and quantity) of food and very decent wines that were served up with dinner. The steam engine, looked after with care and devotion by Anthony, was forever engaging to observe, as was the murmuring of the paddles as they gently massaged the river surface. We had no regrets in taking this excellent winter sojourn with Emmylou on the Murray river and the crew of four made it truly memorable.
