About
Step aboard the PS Emmylou for a seven-night cruise where nature, yesteryear, relaxation and Australian TV history seamlessly blend together into an unforgettable experience.
This cruise, that pays homage to its namesake novel, starring Emmylou as PS Providence, will see you spending your days listening to Kookaburras’ song and watching flocks of galahs fly overhead. Evenings pass watching the sunset through towering Red Gums before the moon rises over the Mighty Murray. You can also partake in movie nights where the 1984 movie adaptation is played, allowing our guests to reminisce about way back when.
Onshore tours will take you to popular and lesser-known places of historical, geographical and cultural significance, where you will learn about the rich history of this beautiful river area.

- Missysolar0 contributionsAn Amazing 4 Nights on the PS EmmylouWhat an incredible experience on the PS Emmylou for 4 nights! From the moment we stepped aboard, we were made to feel so welcome, and the entire cruise was a luxurious, relaxing getaway. We didn’t have to lift a finger – just sit back, unwind, and enjoy the chilled-out atmosphere along the Murray River. Whether it was with a good book or jotting down some poetry, the vibe was perfect. Amy, our fantastic hostess, made sure we never had to ask for anything. She pre-empted our requests for food or drinks, ensuring we were always comfortable, and her warmth made us feel right at home. The food was equally amazing, with Chef Greg serving up delicious meals that kept us well-fed throughout. The all-inclusive nature of the cruise, including meals and alcoholic drinks with dinner, added to the carefree experience. Our cabin was comfortable, equipped with its own air conditioning and a wonderful rain shower with excellent water pressure. The bed was cosy, but I recommend bringing only carry-on-sized luggage to maximise cabin space. The cruise itself was packed with delightful experiences. Our first night, spent at a tranquil bush mooring, was magical. Watching the PS Emmylou bathed in the glow of the sunset was unforgettable. We also enjoyed a fantastic walk at Restdown Winery, where we had lunch in a cool underground wine cellar and sampled some excellent organic wines. The third day’s long, seven-hour cruise was blissfully relaxing, and we learned so much about steam engines during a fascinating session with our talented Captain/Engineer, Scotty. The entire crew, including Ross and Warren, wore multiple hats, acting as tour guides, bus drivers, skippers, and entertainers, and they did so with passion and joy. Their love for their work shone through in everything they did. One highlight was the stunning evening BBQ by candlelight, held by the river with the PS Emmylou as a backdrop. The food was delicious, and the fireside entertainment was such a delightful, unexpected surprise. On our final day, we enjoyed a tour of Echuca, led by the entertaining and knowledgeable Beth, whose family ties to the area made the experience even more special. She’s also one of the few female skippers and engineers in Australia, which was inspiring to learn. We opted for the 4-night cruise, and it was the perfect choice for a fully immersive, relaxing trip. I highly recommend booking one of the multiple-night cruises with Murray River Paddle Steamers. I’m excited to hear that a new boat, the Australian Star, is launching in 2025 and will surely continue the high-quality, personal service that this team offers. Thank you to the entire crew for an amazing, unforgettable experience!Written 27 October 2024
- EvanP3740 contributionsOld time ways of traveling with a modern twist.A excellent experience only wish we had of taken the 7 night option. Relaxing with fun and attentive staff. They really made you feel like you were the only ones onboard. Beautiful views while traveling at a snail’s pace. The beat of the paddles made it a fantastic trip.Written 16 October 2024
- MooriMary0 contributionsPerfect rejuvenation! My husband and I needed to de-stress and found a totally stress free holiday on Emmy Lou. From the instant we met the welcoming crew we felt at ease and welcomed. Skipper Warren (wazzah) navigated Emmy Lou with ease, he was also our historian revealing his passion for the river and the Paddle Steamers. Wazzah entertained us around the camp fires with his Guitar and songs. Jeff the engineer looked after the amazing steam engine that powered our Paddle boat with expertise. He gave a talk one afternoon that was extremely informative explaining the workings of an 18th Century invention; Steam power. A step back in time. Our Dining Crew Julie and Greg fed us some truly magnificent Culinary delights. Master Chef Greg worked tirelessly to present each meal and snack for the pure pleasure of each passenger. I was so grateful and impressed at how Greg made sure my “special” dietary needs were not only met; but to perfection. Julie was the most welcoming host, greeting us all as we entered the dining room, making sure of comfort by attenting to all of our needs. Greg and Julie so made our experience on Emmy Lou magnificent! Ross, our coach driver, took us to some very interesting places when Emmy Lou was moored. His knowledge of the local area was broad and informative. We arrived back into Port of Echuca energised and refreshed. We loved our Emmy Lou 4 Night escape and would highly recommend it. - johnwF4498AO0 contributionsGreat fun trip.It was a great fun cruise. Pros: The crew made us feel more like family than customers. Nothing was too much trouble. The company is able and willing to assist in any part of the organisation of your trip. The added excursions were very informative and enjoyable. The food was excellent and very plentiful. Con: It is a small boat requiring mobility. We would totally recommend the cruise to anyone wanting a fun educational trip.Written 15 September 2024

No rush, plenty of time to relax and enjoy. Thank you to all the staff, especially Amy, front of house, and thank you to Management for employing them. 5 stars.Written 22 August 2024
- B-AnneS0 contributionsMagic on the MurrayWe went with high expectations and they were well exceeded due, mainly, to the outstanding crew of four (Warren, Julie, Greg, and Anthony) who were unfailingly helpful, positive, cheerful and delivering the experience way beyond their call of duty. The service in all aspects was 10/10, the food 10/10, the hospitality and company 10/10, and the overall experience 10/10. The winery/farm excursion was brilliant and very inspiring and the evenings around the campfire with great banter and singalong music were great fun. As the Emmylou is a touch older, like most of the guests, there are a few signs of wear and tear and it's sometimes hard to get entirely comfortable; but maybe that was the boat or just my grinding bones! Maybe an 8/10. However, the cabins are fit for purpose, the ensuite shower excellent, and there is very little time spent in them other than for sleep. There are places to sit around the boat, both inside and out, to enjoy the Murray bushland banks drift slowly past. It is very relaxing. The river is tranquil rather than spectacular and still and peaceful in the cool August mornings, then clearing to simply beautiful days. The warm blankets were plentiful in the evening, just like the exceptional range (and quantity) of food and very decent wines that were served up with dinner. The steam engine, looked after with care and devotion by Anthony, was forever engaging to observe, as was the murmuring of the paddles as they gently massaged the river surface. We had no regrets in taking this excellent winter sojourn with Emmylou on the Murray river and the crew of four made it truly memorable.Written 13 August 2024
- 579Latvia0 contributionsA Most Memorable AdventureHow serene to cruise along the majestic Murray on the grand old PS Emmylou, to the rhythm of the steam engine, paddles turning gently in the water, and plumes of steam streaming behind. The onshore tours provided another delightful dimension, with much to see and learn. It was a glorious cruise, beginning on the first night with songs around the campfire, under a starry, starry sky, after a fabulous onboard dinner. The superb food and wine continued to flow over the entire time, as did the warm hospitality of the whole crew who, in various ways, help to make it a most memorable adventure.Written 22 July 2024

From the moment you are greeted at the carpark nothing is too much trouble for all the crew of Emmylou! We have had 7 glorious nights cruising, eating, drinking, eating, laughing, eating, making friends, eating!!! Greg and Kris ensure every want is met in the saloon from Grannie rugs to sit out on deck to Trivia night!! No food request is too hard to handle from breakfast to Happy Hour ending with dinner every day! Engineers Jeff and Anthony shared their knowledge about the engine which was most interesting. Captains Neil, Warren and Richard skillfully navigated and steered Emmylou from Torrumbarry Weir to Echuca and back. As the Murray is in minor flood that was no mean feat!! Thank you to Scott for driving us all over the countryside. If you are looking for a relaxing break would highly recommend Emmylou!! Thank you Crew.

An amazing 7 nights aboard PS Emmylou for a 70 birthday celebration. Our thanks to 1st crew; Scott, Julie, Greg & Caleb, followed by 2nd crew Richard, Chris, Anthony & Andrew. We enjoyed nothing less than 5 star service, cruising with a group of likeminded people and friendships formed. Amazing meals from breakfast through to dinner with morning & afternoon tea between. Perfect weather conditions for relaxing between off shore excursions, all enjoyable especially the incredible silo murals. Out thanks also to Ross our informative bus driver, Waza who entertained us with songs and stories & Beth tour guide & skipper of PS Canberra. To everyone who made our cruise an unforgettable trip we thank you!

It was a fantastic experience, easy paced and all the staff were brilliant. A spectacular journey, with the added bonus of the nostalgic 100+ year old wood fired steam engine providing our propulsion.
The food was terrific and a big shout out to our chef Greg who was especially accommodating in regard to my wife's dietary requirements.
Our two evening riverbank fires will live long in our memories, the final one very special when our skipper Warren showed off his guitar and singing skills.

What a wonderful time we had. The crew worked so well together. Front of house Amy remembered everything about us from the beginning and couldn't have been more attentive to our needs. Skipper Scott gave great commentary along the way, and engineer Anthony showed us how the engine performed at its best. Chef Greg produced amazing food every mealtime. And of course bus driver Ross was waiting for us each time we docked to take us to the many and varied sights ashore.

The Emmylou Cruise was a wonderful experience. The food was out of this world, the staff very friendly and nothing was ever too much trouble. Even though we have experienced many holidays along the Murray River, both caravanning, camping and houseboating, this was a whole new experience and we learnt so much about the history of the area. The other guests onboard, some did a 4 night trip, some did a 3 night trip, help make it a lovely trip away. With the Murray River rising, it was a sight to behold, something we have not experienced before. We thoroughly recommend Murray River Paddlesteamers and The Emmylou.

The whole experience was excellent.
All the crew learnt everyone's name by dinner the first night. Nothing was a problem. The chef,Greg, prepared exceptional food the whole tour, and Amy at front of house ensured impeccable service of food and beverages. Scotty the skipper was a wealth of information regarding Paddle Steamers and the Murray River in general. Anthony the engineer was only too happy to explain the working of the engine and pitch in whenever something needed to be done. The tour was a good balance of organised excursions and down time on board to appreciate the beauty and tranquillity of the River. If you are thinking of doing a Murray River cruise then this one

The Emmylou is a vessel with loads of character. We enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere while travelling along the Murray River to the splashing of the paddle wheels. The food was excellent in spite of the tiny galley it was prepared in. We had two groups of crew over the week, all of whom were friendly, caring and professional.
There was a good balance of time onboard and time ashore. The shore excursions were interesting and varied, including winery and museum visits as well as a trip to view excellent silo art.
If you are into birds and wildlife you should not be disappointed.
Be prepared that the cabins are small, but you really want to be out on deck anyway. Although the cruise does not travel far as the crow flies, it goes a fair distance along the winding river.

What a great experience! The food was wonderful. All the other passengers were so friendly. Three full meals plus morning and afternoon tea each day! And the crew was awesome! Shout out to Amy for taking such good care of us!! We've done river cruising in Europe and the USA and this is by far the best experience. We saw kangaroo, wallaby, wombats and dozens of birds that you only see in the pet stores back in the states. The accomodations are not luxurious but adequate. With everything to see, you won't spend much time in your room. They have a new paddle steamer, PS Star, coming on line in 2025. We will be coming back in a few years to try that one.

What a fabulous 7 days! I loved every minute of it, the river is so peaceful and the voyage so smooth. Lots to see and do both on board and at each stopping place. The crew are excellent, they work together well, have great senses of humour and just can't do enough for you. The food is plentiful - understatement! - and delicious The cabins are compact but hold everything you need, I can't recommend this trip too highly, it was great.
