About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- KazziM20 contributionsDon’t miss this oneABSOLUTELY fabulous. Thank you so very much. The best $40 I have spent in Tasmania. The day could not have been more perfect. The water was still, the sun so warm, the Captain (thank you Huon) so informative with a great sense of humour🤩…. Sensational ❣️ (We are going to do it again at low tide for a different experience) Thanks Tamar River CruisesWritten 5 February 2025

- Dave W0 contributionsTour of Launceston harbour and Cataract GorgeReally good experience 50 min. Tour to Cataract Gorge on a small cruise boat. AUD20 per adult really good value for money short tour. Just around the Harbour with a brief history from the master of the vessel, trip up the gorge and recommendation for dinner in Launceston. 50min durationWritten 28 January 2025

- vpmuscat0 contributionsFascinating, Educational and informative River CruiseWe thoroughly enjoyed our time on this river cruise, seeing the sights and learning some interesting facts and insights into the river and surrounds, the Captain and crew were very helpful and always welcoming, there was more than enough to eat from muffins for morning tea to Focaccia sandwiches for lunch followed be a cheese and fruit platter after, there was even a mini wine tasting, tea and coffee was included throughout and cold drinks and alcoholic were available as an extra, we would thoroughly recommend this river cruise.Written 22 January 2025
- Relax224545076430 contributionsRelaxing and informative cruiseHi all, I have just completed my 4 hour luncheon batman bridge cruise and I am so pleased to let yall know I had a thoroughly relaxing and informative cruise, our captain, Mr Callum is so kind and patient and let us know many little interesting facts about tamar valley, my only knowledge of tamar valley is the delicious yoghurt that our country imports:)), so when Mr Callum tell us interesting facts like who is who *, the famous environmentalist Peter Cundall, and the NZ actress Rebecca Gibney, used to reside in Tamar valley, we find very interesting indeed! The wildlife is also spectacular, like the white bellied goshask n pelicans in their very natural habitat, all in all, every penny will be worth it because, wine tasting n beer tasting and the gorgeous spread of lunch platter, makes it very wonderful experience, I like to extend my heartfelt thanks to The captain, JJ and team, for this memorable experience through the tamar valley, bridges, cataract gorge and the wildlife that you can spot along the cruise!Written 3 January 2025
- W5676WCchrisj0 contributionsRelaxing short cruise in the heart of LauncestonA quiet and gentle short (50 min) cruise to get the feel of the Tamar River, North and South Esk Rivers on Launceston's doorstep. The cruise starts with a toot of its horn and then turns in the pool of the North Esk, goes a short way up the Tamar to Kings Wharf, once the bustling heart of Launceston, now a shadow of its former self, then turns again to make its way up the cataract gorge with its towering dolorite walls. Although you are not able to get right up to the basin where there is a pool and chairlift over the river, you do get to see a fair bit of the gorge itself, the walkways either side and wave at the walkers. A good trip for families, less mobile people, or those short on time. Gentle and relaxing.Written 1 January 2025

- allenpA7060CQ0 contributionsYes, well worth the experience. We went on this cruise on 3 Dec 2024 (couple) at 3:30pm It was well worth the time and low cost. We booked in advance. Duration 1 hour, went up the Estuary / Harbour, and then to the Cataract Falls. The Skipper was the guide, he was good - Thank you. There was recorded commentary filled in various places along the way. The Harbour was interesting and historic. The old Bridge was worth photos and the history. The Cataract Gorge was good to see and photograph. Yes, well worth the experience.Written 10 December 2024
- SarahG47700 contributionsEnjoyable CruiseLovely morning on the river, nice views and great commentary from Callum, though it was hard to hear at times. Morning tea was included, tea and coffee and a selection of cakes and fruit. Not always easy to see the views as passenger seating faces inwards. Cataract Gorge was a lovely ending to the cruise.Written 6 December 2024
- johnmT1374HU0 contributionsInformative and short trip.Very pleasant and easy cruise. Informative skipper (James) and the ticket office staff are very professional and friendly. A great way to get oriented in Launceston and discover the city region and walkways. Embarcation point, is close to downtown and well maintained.Written 6 December 2024
- M8840COannef0 contributionsThoroughly enjoyableAwesome way to see parts of Tasmania. Lisa was working non stop and ensured everyone was catered to, Callum our captain was a fountain of knowledge, could not have asked for a more informative guide. Well worth it in our opinion.Written 3 December 2024

Callum our Captain and guide gave a brilliant and informative explanation about key point throughout the cruise. The second crew member was excellent, taking photographs for passengers and serving light refreshments. A wonderful introduction to The Tamar valley!

From the ease of making a booking to the cruise itself was very satisfactory. The captain Lynn was a font of knowledge regarding the Tamar Estuary, the history of the river and surroundings. Laura his assistant was friendly providing us with some tasty food and wine samples during the cruise. Most relaxing and informative.

Such a lovely way to take in the scenery and learn about the history of the area from the Captain as you cruise for 2.5 hours north up the Tamar River and back down and into Cataract Gorge. Friendly Captain and crew and light snacks to enjoy along the way, plus a wine tasting. Cataract Gorge was full and flowing very fast due to all the recent rains. A magnificent site to see. Highly recommend this cruise.

Avoid 2 + hours of torture by giving the "cruise" a miss. Thumping diesel engines, rated for 60 but barely enough seating, commentary impossible to hear if seated at the rear as the boat is driven downstream after the first 30 mins at high speed to a pointless destination. "Scenic riversides and lush bushlands" certainly but noise and vibrations totally detract. Far from relaxing.
Suggest cruise be made shorter and more leisurely.
Environmentally harmful way to see the beautiful Tamar and historic town foreshore. Unless you're desperate for a "free" muffin and thimble of wine, give it a miss !

Excellent trip. Captain and crew were very nice and gave excellent commentary without overloading.
Boat was clean and comfortable. Lovely service with a wine tasting and afternoon tea. Would highly recommend when in Launceston. (The wine was pretty average but, hey, it's a very nice touch).

Fabulous! Great boat with comfortable seats and lots of options inside/outside/upstairs. Commentary on the journey very interesting and just the right amount. Afternoon tea and wine tasting added to the experience. Saw a seal on arrival back at base which topped off the afternoon.

We had a great time on this cruise where the staff were really cheerful and friendly. The afternoon tea was terrific with muffins, fruit cake, big biscuits and fresh fruit plus tea and coffee. Enjoyed a beer and a glass of wine from the bar as well. Can highly recommend it for a great afternoon.
