About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- 429richardr0 contributionsWhat a great day. What a great day, Our guide Chris was so entertaining and the wine stops had different samples to try. One of the planned stops had a fire that morning and it was where we were supposed to have lunch. They were able to rearrange on the fly so we didn't experience a disruption. The only thing that would have improved the tour would be lie flat seats for the return ride to Sydney!Written 24 December 2024
- 436annettet0 contributionsHunter Valley Wine DayDave arrived on time, and was such an upbeat guy. He filled us in on the flow of the day. He talked the entire drive and gave us All such a great history lesson about Sydney Australia . He was engaging, and answered any and all questions we had. The wineries we visited were great. The first, Oakville was our favorite . The wine hostess was fun and very knowledgeable, and the wines we tasted there Were excellent. We also had the most delicious lunch at Briar Ridge? winery. One winery did a cheese pairing, and the other a chocolate pairing. We ended at the gin distillery, which was a blast. We tasted way too Many types of gins, and liqueurs. We did buy some liqueurs to bring back home. We had a long but terrific day with Dave. We all wanted to see kangaroos During our Australian vacation. Dave found a “mob of kangaroos “ And he stopped the van and pulled over so we could takes lots of pictures Of the kangaroos. It was the highlight of a great day for us . Thank you DaveWritten 31 October 2024

- Laurelea D0 contributionsCheers to Clip Board Dave!Fantastic day in the Hunter Valley. Excellent your guide, Col, AKA Clip board Dave. Very comfortable 12 seater bus. Visiting a selection of boutique wineries. We weren't fans of the glitter Gin but I'm sure this would appeal to a younger crowd!Written 6 October 2024
- 850fionac0 contributionsA long day but an enjoyable and unforgettable experienceWe did the Hunter Valley Win, Gin and Food Tastings Tour on 7th March 2024 with Daves Tours. The guide (unfortunately I can't remember his name) was a lovely Italian gentleman who was very welcoming, friendly and knowledgable. We had a lovely day touring various wineries in the Hunter Valley and saw some truly wonderful sights along the way. The Australian countryside is absolutely stunning! As the tour started very early, we drove over Sydney Harbour Bridge at 7.30am and that was an experience in itself! During the tour we went to one winery where there was a demonstration of how wine is made and we visited another where we got a lovely sample of different types of chocolate. Lunch was also included in the tour. We also had the chance to see some kangaroos although they were hiding under the shade of a tree as it was so hot! We were in a lovely small tour group - 7 in all. The only downside was the bus itself. It was very small and rickety and in my opinion, unsuitable for such a long journey - you're on the bus for at least 2.5 hours to get to your first winery (albeit with a coffee/toilet break along the way) and then it's another 2.5 hours back in to the centre of Sydney. The air con packed in at one point too. A larger, more modern, luxury type bus/coach would be much better for such a long journey. That was my only complaint however. Everything else was brilliant although with the length of the journey out and back, I don't know if I would do it again.Written 15 September 2024
- chris920090 contributionsPerfect Day Trip!First, Dave’s Tours are incredible and the guides are excellent. Colin, Mark etc…great guys!! Second, having done a variety of these tours over the years I find Dave’s the BEST way to visit the Hunter Wineries in a small group but most importantly the best wineries! Not all tours go to the better wineries. Lastly, the transportation is comfortable and the value for the cost is amazing. Will be doing this tour again !!Written 11 September 2024

- Compass185486838010 contributionsSimply AmazingFrom start to finish the was an amazing experience. I was a solo amongst 15 others. Chris was a very personable and professional guide. Even on a light rainy day the pickup was on time. He was extremely knowledgeable of the area and kudos to him. The wineries were all very boutique and the Gin & Vodka tasting was delightful. I’m not a Gin or Vodka fan but I am now. I would recommend this trip to anyone who wants a relaxing wine tasting experience.Written 15 June 2024

Loved tge wine tasting - the hosts were all very different. The first two winery hosts were very informative about their wines and their winery - the third one not so much but he was highly entertaining!!!! If and when you go you will see what I mean. A great day out - would highly recommend.Written 6 April 2024

It was a fun tour with good weather, outgoing Krystal who looked after us well, and the vineyards happily hosting us with the wines they were proud of. Dave's had a good sense of selecting destinations as we were able to enjoy the tasting and learn the culture to the most. This tour is especially helpful if you come to Hunter Valley for the first time and don't know where to go or how to appreciate alcohol.

Crystal our guide was fun, informative and engaging. The variety of stops showcased the best the Hunter has to offer. It was a fabulous day and the rain only added to the magic of the Hunter. Highly recommend it and would happily do it again.

I went on the tour with a friend and would highly recommend! Pick up and drop off was Sydney central.
We had driver Col - a lovely, chatty and knowledgeable guy! He was super friendly and made the effort to get to know everyone in the group.
It was a nice small group of travellers from all over the world and it was a really nice way to meet new people! A mix of couples, friends and families but it would also be perfect for a solo traveller.
It was really well organised and all ran to time. The wineries all had something slightly different to offer, which kept things interesting! At one we did cheese pairings and another was chocolate and gelato. All the winemakers were knowledgeable and engaging. It was nice to visit some of the smaller, less commercial wineries and meet the winemakers themselves.
Woodfired pizza and salad was provided at lunch and it was really good. Lots of choice for all tastes!
The only downside for us was the vodka/gin stop at the end - it was quite a different vibe (coloured/flavoured spirits) and I think another winery or something a bit more similar would have been better. I appreciate it was to give variety (and it was just a quick stop) but it didn’t quite work for us.
I’d highly recommend the trip, great value for money and we had a brill time!

Thank you for such a detailed and thoughtful review! It’s wonderful to hear you enjoyed the variety of stops, the group vibe, and Col’s friendly guiding style—he’ll love hearing your kind words. I appreciate your feedback about the distillery stop; it’s great insight for us to consider. Hope to see you on another tour soon!

Really enjoyable day. Plenty of wines to taste and loved the pairing with the cheese and chocolate. All the guides at each winery/distillery were knowledgeable and gave plenty of info about their products.
Plenty of time at each stop, didn't ever feel rushed when trying the produce.
Chose to join trip from Newcastle rather than Sydney as it meant a shorter amount of travelling on minibus.
As we were staying in centre of Newcastle, the tour company ordered an Uber to pick us up from our hotel, taking us to a more convenient place to meet up with the minibus, and to drop us back after the tour at no extra cost to us.
Todd, the driver/guide was lovely, courteous and helpful.
Thankyou for a lovely day.

Thanks for the 5 star review Mitzi and it was a pleasure having you on the tour for the day. Newie is only a small place but the Uber is well worth it when getting in to town is a bit harder.

An awesome tour of the Hunter Valley. Boutique wineries, outstanding lunch and great cheese and chocolate wine pairings. The shimmering spirits was a fun twist too. Thanks Daves for a comprehensive tour of the Hunter, and keeping us warm, dry and happy on an otherwise wet rainy day. Our tour guide was excellent and we had a lovely group to spend the day with. Highly recommended 🥂🍷

Enjoyed the Hunter Valley experience a lot. Thanks to Andr who's been a friendly and caring guide and it's lovely to go with easy going fellow tour goers. Wine, cheese and chocolate are divine, the Gin is more interesting and exploratory than practical. Overall a quite satisfying experience.
