Fantastic way to spend a morning!
Becky our guide was so knowledgeable and made the tour so exciting and fun! I loved being a tourist in my own city and learned so many new things. Would definitely recommend even if you have lived in Newcastle a long time! Likewise would recommend for tourists to get to know the interesting history of and stories about the area.

A worthwhile way to learn about the city
Becky is the both the proprietor and guide and her enthusiasm and love for the city was apparent. Her knowledge is expansive and there was a constant flow of relevant information from things most important to just interesting. She's formally educated in some of the topics she covers and speaks authoritatively about all of it. We've done many walking tours over the years and this one rates as one of our best experiences. If you like walking tours to help orient you to a city, this one is worthwhile doing.

    Fun and Informative
We did the Newcastle Gin Masterclass on Sunday. It was tons of fun. Our tour guide, Becky, shared lots about the history of pubs in Newcastle which was quite interesting (Do you know where the idea of Happy Hour comes from?). She also told us about the heritage architecture of the buildings and the beautiful artist created murals we passed on our walking tour. We learned a lot about gin, had some lovely cocktails, learned some Newcastle history, and had lots of laughs. I also was served the best gin and tonic cocktail I have ever tasted! Thanks Bec for another fabulous tour!

A great way to experience Newcastle on foot
Becky, the guide, is passionate about Newcastle and so knowledgeable about all aspects that make up this city. The history, the present and the future of Newcastle were all a part of the walking tour. I can’t recommend it highly enough. Loved it so much I did a different tour the next day.

Great walking tour of central Newcastle
Our guide Alex was excellent. She was very friendly, engaging and knowledgeable. We enjoyed hearing some of teh history of teh local buildings and the city of Newcastle. We visited three interesting pubs/restaurants with food provided at two of them as part of the tour. The food at our last stop, the Spanish restaurant, Bocado, was excellent. Highly recommend this tour.

Great way to see the sights
I did the Seascapes to Laneway walk with Becky and it was wonderful. It was very informative, interactive and covered a great range of sights. Becky also made excellent suggestions for places to eat and shop in Newcastle. I would highly recommend doing walking tours with Newcastle Afoot.

    Great walk
The Seascapes to Laneways tour that we did on a perfect Newcastle Sunday morning was a great experience. While we know Newcastle well because we live here, we learned lots more things about our beautiful and interesting city. Bec has a great knowledge of Newcastle’s colourful history and is more than happy to share it in an informative but also amusing way. We walked past heritage buildings, down cute, hidden little laneways and past the beautiful beaches. Congratulations to Bec who has created a unique and much needed business in Newcastle, and whether you live right here in the Hunter or come from afar, you won’t be disappointed with the Newcastle Afoot experience.

    Happy times afoot in Newcastle!
Becky did a great job taking us to delightful venues, and recounting some of the fascinating back stories about this wonderful harbour city. She was an engaging and knowledgeable guide, and the bars had a terrific range of cocktails for us to sample, along with tasty treats to chew on.

Discovering the east end of town
The tour offers cultural, historical and city regeneration artistic perspectives in a very enlightening and entertaining 2.5 hours easy walk exploring the sites of the east end of town. Our enthusiastic guide Becky has become very much part of the local community and tells many stories that enhance the tour experience. The sighting of two whales at our coffee stop at the beach was an added bonus. Would highly recommend this tour.

What a wonderful way to get to know Newcastle! I came across Newcastle Afoot on Instagram, booked online and found it easy to redeem my NSW Govt ‘Discover’ voucher. Becky was so knowledgable, passionate and engaging. We enjoyed a well paced 2hr tour, exploring some of Newy’s best known heritage buildings and facades, modern architectural marvels and street art. Becky also shared interesting snippets about the traditional custodians of the area, Newy’s industrial history, local creatives, place making initiatives and the redevelopment taking place in the city. We had a small group of five, and I found it easy to distance and wear a mask throughout. I’d absolutely recommend Newcastle Afoot to locals, visitors, and hope to go back.

The best part of the tour was Becky's incredible knowledge of Newcastle's history and emerging direction as she plays a critical role in current art projects around the city. Becky set the tour off by giving a thorough overview of what to expect on the tour. She is passionate about Indigenous history paying her respect to traditional owners. Tourists and locals alike can expect a non-stop two hour guide through Newcastle. Set at a gentle pace, Becky will take you through the unexpected as she relishes in Newcastle's future.

This was one of the best city tours I've been on. Becky's enthusiasm for Newcastle overflows and creates a fun and super interesting tour where I felt like I was seeing Newcastle through the eyes of a local who loves it. It was wonderful learning some brief history of Newcastle, and seeing some beautiful buildings and Street Art. Amazing what is happening in this creative city.

Becky takes the time to get to know the interests of the group also and shares information of particular interest.

Thank you Becky! Very highly recommended!

The whole experience was terrific and Becky an excellent hostess with an engaging character and a reservoir of history and heritage.

In addition she has firsthand experience of the street art and it’s artists, having organised and directed the Newcastle Street Festival known as the Big Picture Fest. As well as having studied architecture - very relevant to this tour.

$40 bucks well spent.

My partner and I really enjoyed our tour of Newcastle with Becky! She was extremely knowledgeable and passionate, had great recommendations, and enthralled us with her lessons on the history of the city. Well worth the money and would highly recommend. We’re sad that we didn’t have an opportunity to take the Seascapes to Laneways tour before we leave, as we would have happily taken another Newcastle Afoot tour during our time here. Thank you Becky for the fabulous tour and recommendations!

A thoroughly informative and interesting tour on the old and new development going on in Newcastle as well as the street art from the this year and 2020. I made sure to go back and check out one of the hidden secrets another day. I will recommend the tour to friends and would definitely do the Seascapes and Laneways tour if I come back to Newcastle. And the recommendation of Moma was taken up for breakfast with a slice of the passion fruit cake to take away.

What a fabulous introduction to the city centre. We always like to start with an orientation tour of cities we don’t know well, and as central Newcastle is so pedestrian-friendly a walking tour was the obvious choice for us. Becky has a passion for Newcastle that shines through as she shares stories of the history, architecture and street art that have shaped the city. Highly recommended to anyone wanting to experience the city from an insider’s perspective. Thanks Becky.

What a great walk around the old city. We really enjoyed the commentary and the carefully selected sights. Our two grandsons were able to have all their questions answereed and now have a new appreciation of street art. Becky also pointed us to good restaurants which we appreicated.

Gemma was our tour guide on this particular tour. Gemma was very knowledgeable and had lots of information regarding all the places she took us to. My friend has lived in Newcastle for over 40 years now, and Gemma showed her places and street art that she was completely unaware existed. The tour went for two hours and was done at a very pleasant walking pace for a couple of 60+-year-old women.

I would strongly recommend this cure for not just tourists but locals as well. I will be booking in for the other tour in the near future.

Did you know that Newcastle is the second oldest city in Australia, well now you do!
