I did a couple of Horse Treks. Very, very nice, quiet and lovely horses. So don't worry it's totally safe, even for people who have never been on a horse. Amazing views over the Lake Te Anau and the mountains. Great staff!
Come and ride with us at Westray Adventures. We are located near the lakeside township of Te Anau, and can offer stunning 360 degree panoramic views over the lake and mountain ranges of the world renowned Fiordland World Heritage Park. Take a tour through our working farm and say hello to some of our horses, sheep and cattle. The relaxed horse ride is suitable for beginners as well as experienced riders. Through Natural Horsemanship our horses are calm and happy and will look after you, so you can enjoy the trek from start to finish.
Upon arrival at Westray Adventures, only 5km outside of Te Anau, you will be greeted by our friendly staff and can make a first connection with the horses. We will take you through a safety briefing, explain the tour and fit you with helmets.
After we have gotten to know you a little bit, we will try to match you with the best horse depending on you riding experience and character. One of our guides will give you riding instruction and a demonstration to ensure even the first timers will feel confident. If there are no questions we start on our tour.
We will ride through working farm land, so an encounter of other horses, sheep and cattle is more than likely. The trek will take you straight up hills, along duck ponds, our man made "mini lake" and over green paddocks. When we reach the top of the hill you will get the chance to soak in the view and enjoy the panorama. There will be plenty of photo stops where we are more than happy to take a picture of you, your horse and the scenery. So make sure you bring a camera.
For the more experienced riders there might be a chance to go for a trot or canter depending on weather conditions. The rest of the group will continue in a more leisurely speed. Please request this at time of booking.
We will have a light snack at the the highest point. You can take off your helmet for a bit, have a refreshing drink and snap a selfie with your horse.
We should arrive back at the stables after around 2 hours. You can take the opportunity to give your horse one last big stroke and give him a brush if you wish.
We offer a free pick up from your accommodation in Te Anau. Please advice at point of booking.

Such a great experience - totally made by our guide Olivia who was so chatty, but also kept us safe! It's quite off the beaten track but it's a fun experience, gorgeous horses, incredible views, really recommend!
Stunning views and great to ride horses where you get a bit of control. We found this place in our hotel's (Radford) flyer and I'm glad we did. The trek was on private property. It goes up quiet a big hill where you get stunning...More
