Itinerary
Your tour begins with a complimentary pickup from your central Queenstown accommodation (charges may apply to rural locations). Leaving Queenstown on the Southern Discoveries Coach from 6:30am depending on accommodation location, travel in comfort through rugged mountain terrain through Te Anau, a quiet town on the shores of the largest lake in the South Island. After morning tea in Te Anau, the journey continues through the Southern Alps and along the picturesque Eglinton Valley, a place of ancient alpine forest and gushing waterfalls and one of only a few road-accessible glacier valleys in New Zealand.

Take advantage of the photo opportunities along the Milford Road, like the stunning Mirror Lakes, where on a calm day the surrounding mountain ranges are perfectly reflected in the still waters and Knobs Flat, where glaciers have carved their mark on the terrain. Travel through the Homer Tunnel, a 1.2km passageway drilled into solid rock stopping at Monkey Creek and Experience the Chasm, a short but impressive walk over footbridges, spanning a series of powerful, swirling waterfalls and rapids.

The second half of the adventure begins in Milford Sound, where your driver escorts you to the boat docks to board your Milford Sound Cruise. This purpose-built Southern Discoveries Nature catamaran traverses the full length of the 12km fiord over 1 hour and 45 minutes. Aboard, enjoy a hot buffet lunch, with complimentary tea and coffee. Spacious outdoor viewing decks allow you to take in all of the Fiordland scenic highlights, including waterfalls taller than Niagra Falls, and an array of indigenous flora and fauna.

Following your Milford Sound cruise meet your Air Milford pilot to embark on your return flight to Queenstown, which takes in aerial views of many pristine alpine lakes and waterfalls that Fiordland National Park is recognized for, including the Sutherland Falls which span 580m (1904ft), flight time is  35 minutes. After enjoying your scenic Air Milford flight back from Milford Sound landing back in Queenstown, we will return you to your accommodation to complete the journey.

The most beautiful flight you’ll (probably) ever experience

Milford Sound’s cruise is just a glimpse of the wonder you’ll see while airborne. Coming from Malaysia as a pilot myself I asked our pilot Alex Turnbull if I could seat myself on the right seat. And he agreed! So we took off from the...More

Wonderful Experience!!!

We had a delightful trip to Milford Sound. The weather was bad so we couldn’t fly directly into Milford, but the Milford Air folks had an even better “Wet Option”. We took a spectacular flight to Lake Te Anau, then traveled through the Fiordland National...More

Amazing views but not worth the money

My friends and I chose this tour because we wanted to get the full Milford experience - by coach/driving through Fiordland National Park, by sea, and then by air. Other tour companies didn't offer all three, so even though they had raving reviews we chose...More

Dear Stephanie, Thank you for taking the time to review Air Milford. It has taken our staff some time to collate the facts, especially considering it was a combination tour with an outside coach/cruise company. Having just heard back from them today, I will endeavor...More

A thrill from the air

We were fortunate to make the trip on a day when the skies were calm and clear, eliminating the distraction of nerves. Our pilot, Tom, was gracious and communicative. If there was a disappointment, it was not with Milford Air, but rather with the Milford...More
