    What to Expect
Start with pickup at your centrally-located accommodations in Queenstown, then head to the airport for a scenic flight to Milford Sound. The pilot points out key landmarks and topographical features on the way to the coast, where you land at the head of the glacially-carved fjord.

Board a catamaran boat for a cruise on Milford Sound: with room for 150 passengers, the catamaran is smaller than many Milford Sound boats, so you can get closer to the cliff walls and waterfalls, including the spectacular Stirling Falls. Wilderness guides are available during the cruise, and you’re welcome to head to the bridge of the boat to meet the skipper and get a captain’s view of the dramatic fjord. Keep your eyes on the water throughout the tour, as it’s common to see fur seals, dolphins, and many kinds of birds along the way, and the rare, Fjordland crested penguin can be spotted in spring and autumn. Lunch (midday departure only), coffee, tea, soda, beer, and wine are served during the cruise.

Following the Milford Sound cruise, meet the pilot for the return flight to Queenstown, with spectacular views of the landscape in the constantly changing light. This tour concludes with drop-off at your Queenstown hotel.

Dear Travellik, Thank you for taking the time to share your 5 star review with us and the TripAdvisor community. It was our pleasure to host you and your family recently, we are nocked off our feet with your kind feedback and high endorsement to future travelers. Your pilot Hank is a dab hand, he is the owner of Air Milford and has been flying in Fiordland National Park for over 40 years. He loves sharing his local region with his guests during the scenic flight and we are really pleased to hear that you thoroughly enjoyed flying with him. His talents don't stop there though, he is also an aircraft engineer and likes to maintain our fleet to a meticulous standard, I passed on your kind praise about the plane to him and he blushed with pride! On behalf of Hank and the team at Air Milford, thank you for choosing to fly with us and all the best for your future travels, Sincerely, Mary, Guest services, Air Milford.

Dear Sarah B, It was our pleasure to host you recently, thank you for taking the time to review your experience! We can imagine how frustrating it was to come on a group ski trip with an injury, but we are really pleased that we managed to turn it into a positive, by being free to come on our Milford Sound Fly/Nature Cruise/Fly trip. We like to think it's a once in a lifetime trip and there's always other winters for skiing - but of course if you would like to come again, we'd love to :-) I have passed on your kind praise to our gorgeous pilots (you made them blush!) and they would like to send their regards. On behalf of the whole team, thank you for choosing to fly with us and all the best for a speedy recovery, Sincerely, Mary. Air Milford, Guest services.

Dear Bails1966, Thank you for reviewing Air Milford on TripAdvisor. We are really proud to hear that your Milford Sound Fly/Nature Cruise/Fly excursion with us recently, was the highlight of your trip to New Zealand ✈️NZ🗺️🥝📷😍⚓🛩️🐬!! We try our best to live up to, if not exceed guests expectations and it's awesome to hear that in this instance we were successful. The incredible wilderness of Fiordland National Park must take the lion's share of the praise, we are so fortunate to be able to host guests in this spectacular region, but we are glad to hear that our input enhanced your experience. Our family of four was visiting New Zealand from the States, and we knew that we had to visit Milford Sound. We were staying in Queenstown, and considered the option of taking the bus, but the trip was just too long, and we had to consider that it was winter time. Given time

Dear JRSteve2017, thank you for taking the time to write suck an kind and comprehensive review of your experience with Air Milford. It was our pleasure to host you and your family this winter, we are very proud to hear that you had an excellent time with us! Although beautiful, the drive to Milford Sound is long, it's a 5hrs one-way journey, traversing some impressive landscapes on small and winding roads. For may the thought of 10hrs of driving in a day is excessive, especially when compared to taking an incredible 40 mins scenic flight to Milford Sound, which traverses the same landscapes, but with a far wider view and perspective of the secrecy. Your advice to future travelers is on point: Because of the weather dependent nature of flying, we recommend that travelers factor in a back-up day, or two in their Queenstown itinerary, so that should inclement weather intervene on the first day, they have maximum flexibility to switch their booking to another fine weather day. If a back up day is not possible and guests only have one day to visit Milford, we recommend booking in for a Coach/Cruise/Fly trip. The advantage of this trip is that regardless of the weather you get to Milford Sound, then if the weather is good you get to take the scenic flight back to Queenstown, or if the weather is bad, you take the coach back to Queenstown and don't pay for the cancelled flight. However, as you have experienced, during the winter and spring months, the Milford road can experience closures due to avalanche dangers and the coaches don't get to Milford at all! - on these rare days (a handful every year) guests who are visiting Milford Sound by air, are the only ones who have the pleasure of experiencing the fiord. We are really pleased that you did your research and chose to fly with us and that we, with the assistance of mother nature, were able to exceed your expectations. On behalf of your pilot the rest of the team, thank you for your high recommendation to future travelers and all the best for your next adventures, Sincerely, Mary, Guest services, Air Milford.
