About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- williambA2447DF0 contributionsGood experienceWent to Mt Cook / Aoraki on a day we knew the weather wasn’t good. We still had a good time thanks to Sonia. Very knowledgeable, high energy and very accommodating of her clients. We walked part of the Hooker Valley trail and then went to the Tasman Lake trail. Didn’t see Aoraki but give it a good try and got an authentic NZ experience.Written 17 March 2025
- G9099WVpatf0 contributionsGreat adventureSonia did a phenomenal job as our tour guide. She was informative, helpful and a great driver for the 12 hr journey. The rain was not a deterrent for her lively spirit.Written 16 March 2025

- Tourist108258567090 contributionsGreat ExcursionGreat trip from start to finish, prompt pick up, our guide was great fun and full of good information. We had enough comfort breaks and plenty of time to walk the Hooker Valley track to the Glacier and lunch. Would definitely recommend this excursion!Written 13 March 2025

- Fran-and-Pete0 contributionsA most memorable and scenic adventure! This was a wonderful tour! We had superb weather, which made the long scenic drive exceptionally beautiful. Our guide was excellent, giving us interesting stories and background information all the way. The options for different travellers at Mt. Cook were clearly explained and our guide was attentive and thoughtful as she dropped us off at the various sites, then collected us again afterwards. We chose the helicopter and ski-plane flight and this too was very efficiently organised and the pilots were welcoming and informative, as well as giving us a wonderful experience, soaring up onto the glacier. Although expensive, this was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for us and we loved the whole day.Written 11 March 2025

- 740jcp0 contributionsDo this tour!!!!This was an amazing tour! I highly recommend it. Our guide for the drive, Jeff, was wonderful! He gave interesting information mixed with quiet time for just looking and enjoying the sights. I highly recommend the small group tour. It was so much more personal! Lunch was good. Cruise had just over 30 on it i believe. STUNNING views. Complimentary tea and coffee was appreciated. Flying back was a highlight. Amazing to see the sights from above. Shout out to Joseph, our pilot, who did a great job!Written 9 March 2025

- ninakQ8809WU0 contributionsAmazing tripWe have travelled extensively and this trip rates in our top 5. Everything was handled very professionally and as advertised. Amazing experience. Mathew was an amazing tour guide who provided plenty of laughs and insight. The boat cruise and scenery was fantastic. We really enjoyed our flight back with Liam, our pilot from True South Flights. This is a great way to see Milford Sound, especially the flight - one of the highlights of our trip. Would highly recommend.Written 6 March 2025
- Trippy_Tomato20 contributionsTerrific Tour! This is a terrific tour! Though the time spent in the van to get out to Milford Sound is a bit long, it is broken up with a number of lovely stops. The stops include photo opportunities as well as a breakfast stop. Our guide, Albert, was very knowledgeable and informative. The boat ride in Milford sound, which is an out and back configuration, offered beautiful scenery, waterfalls, and some interesting commentary. The airplane ride back is fantastically, scenic, and welcomed, as it eliminated the long van ride back to Queenstown. I highly recommend this tour.Written 5 March 2025
- CraigD8640 contributionsFabulous day to, on and from Milford SoundWonderful day stopping to see sights on the way to Milford Sound, the cruise and the highlight was the scenic flight back to Queenstown. Worth every cent, thanks Cheeky Kiwi!Written 5 March 2025
- AnaC89270 contributionsAlmost perfectThis was a 2 part tour. Picked up at Christchurch by Hannah who was fantastic and gave lots of info, tips and good vibes. The hike was harder than expected but fun to push myself. At Mt Cook we then switched to another van (Cheeky Kea, with Grant) and from then on it felt more like a transfer than a tour - very little info given. It was all very comfortable though and I would still recommend this tour. Just wish the 2nd half had been as interactive as the first.Written 4 March 2025
- Patrick J0 contributionsA great scenic trip and two great drivers.I read previous bad reviews about the second segment of the trip from Mt Cook to Christ Church, so we were a little worried prior to the trip. However, our experience was great for both segments of the trip. Both drivers seemed eager with their jobs. Telling the passengers histories about each attraction that we visited and the sites we drove by. The transition at Mt Cook was very smooth. The second driver ( sorry that I forgot the lady’s name)dropped the passengers off at each respective hotel we stay in at Christ Church central. My wife and I were dropped off at around 7:30PM. There was only one passenger left after us.Written 3 March 2025
- Explore175945293280 contributionsMore than expected!Chose this company/tour because it’s the only one offering three hours at Mt Cook, but ended up receiving much more than that. Lynette was an energetic, knowledgeable and welcoming guide. The tour program was perfect, with well-planned stops and just the right amount of time at each location. A great experience!Written 2 March 2025

Milford Sound is one of those places that everyone will remember following their visit, it is spectacular, serene, almost magical.
We were collected early in the morning by Hanna who was very bright and bubbly for that time of day, which helped to get the trip off to a great start. The journey itself is long but interesting with highlights pointed out along the way, a few photo opportunities, toilet breaks and a coffee stop added into the mix meant the time passed without too much discomfort.
We left Queenstown in rain, travelled through mist and low cloud and had prepared ourselves for a misty and moody experience on the Sound however upon arrival the sun shone brightly and we were treat to a wonderful trip on the boat.
The trip we had booked was advertised as a small boat tour, to be honest we had expected a smaller vessel however it did not impact or detract from the experience there was plenty of space for the numbers on board and the boarding / ticket collection was easy and efficient.
Hanna was a delight she made sure everyone was catered for, had umbrellas on hand for those that needed them when taking in the scenery off the coach in the rain, her information and story telling was interesting and measured so as not to overload us.
The journey back felt long however that is only to be expected given the distance and the full day we had already had. However the experience of Milford Sound is so worth it and the whole day was extremely great value for money.
We would thoroughly and confidently recommend Cheeky Kiwi.

The actual tour was wonderful. Brittany was energetic and informative and a confident driver. The views were scenic, including the boat tour.
However I rated this a 4 instead of a 5 due the lack of age minimum requirement which I didnt foresee being an issue. The van is comfortable but only had 16 seats so its small enough that sound bounces around. One crying baby and the 12 hour tour is ruined and everyone either stops talking or puts on their noise cancelling headphones on.
I am also biased because the 6 month year old sat directly behind me crying the majority of the time. It made it difficult to hear what Brittany was saying and after a while I gave up asking her to repeat herself. Instead I waited until we made a stop. The parents of the baby expected and therefore asked Brittany to make additional stops. All stops we made where extended an extra 10-15 (so they could tend to the baby) going and coming back. In the end, the already long trip was extended by at least an hour. The best part of the drive was once they were dropped off in Te Anau and we finally had the opportunity to interact as a group including my 13 yo nephew who put away his noise cancelling headphones. We participated in car trip games and had the opportunity to ask Brittany questions that we'd been holding back. (We could've bounded as group prior to picking them up at Te Anau, but it was early and we were all asleep until the first rest stop.)

The tour from Queenstown was long with a lot of photo opportunities on the way. As a suggestion, people who are tall and broad in stature may want to consider a bus tour instead of a minibus tour. The seats are incredibly uncomfortable with nowhere to stretch your legs if you're tall. Other than that the tour guide was fantastic and very informative. It was raining on our tour but without the rain there'd be no waterfalls. We were even fortunate enough to see the mischievous Kea, the Kea are normally nesting in the hilltops at this time of the year. It was a great summer tour even though it rained.

Our entire group enjoyed the whole trip (van ride and cruise) and would like to provide extra positive feedback to Tommy for his excellent customer service, commentary and attention to detail. In our opinion he went well beyond what may have been expected and provided outstanding service. Also, we’d like to commend the cruise boat captain for his courteous and skillful handling during the cruise portion. This was an extremely enjoyable experience and we highly recommend Cheeky Kiwi Travel for any planned sightseeing activity needs - Well done to Cheeky Kiwi Travel!

This day was one of the highlights of my trip to New Zealand. Jeff was a friendly and informative guide who went out of his way to make sure everyone was comfortable and happy. We lucked out with a sunny day on the sound and the boat trip was lovely! Highly recommend taking the optional flight back--one of the coolest things I've ever done and so worth the extra expense, plus it saves you a long bus ride back so you get to enjoy your evening in Queenstown.

Rob was an awesome guide and Cheeky Kiwi Tours clearly work beautifully with all of the different people to get us to the different locations along the route and the cruise in a timely but not rushed manner.
Rob’s calm and confident driving helped me to feel calm and comfortable so that I could focus on the grand surroundings.
The provided packed lunch and snacks were perfect. I had packed some fruit and veggies for our family to snack on just in case but we did not need them.
The cruise was great with time near the waterfalls and spots where we were able to watch Fur Seals and Fiordland Crested Penguins going about their afternoon in the wild. We also saw dolphins swimming and jumping alongside us.
All day long- in the van, out on our stops, and on the cruise I kept saying, “Oh my word, that is incredible!”
I would 100% recommend this tour to anyone planning a trip to the Queenstown area.

The whole day was excellent. Having a small group of 11 was perfect and Xavier, our guide, was spot on. He was so knowledgeable and gave us plenty of information without overwhelming us with it all. We stopped at several gorgeous spots on the way to Milford Sound for amazing photo opportunities. The mini van was comfortable and he was a great driver so never felt unsafe even on the difficult roads. Music was cool too! The boat trip was everything and more. Food provided was tasty and the stopping point cafe also had good food options. All in all, a perfect day and I highly recommend using Cheeky Kiwi and am booked on other trips with them.

This was a very long but beautiful trip. We had booked a flight for the return but it couldn’t go because of weather. So 4 hour journey both directions of stunning scenery the whole way. Our driver Colin took very good care of us stopping for photo opportunities and bathroom/coffee breaks. He gave a very interesting commentary as we went of the areas we were passing through. He also had snacks and water for our journey. The lunch provided was delicious. For the return home we mostly listened to music, which was nice. Even though it was a long time in the van it was worth seeing. I would recommend spending the extra money to fly back to shorten your day but know that it’s dependent on the weather. Don’t miss seeing Fiordland National Park and Milford Sound.

We have recently returned from Moa Tours, Far South: Milford Sound Tour 1 to 8 March 2024 and we must comment on our experience.
We are seasoned international travelers but have not travelled that much in our home country New Zealand especially the South Island.
We chose an organized coach tour so that we could have the benefit of a professional approach and itinerary. We were a little apprehensive of travelling in a tour group with a guide for a number of reasons all that were unfounded. We found that the group added to the experience and we had a real professional and personable travel guide.
For those who have not travelled often to the far South, or who have never been, we can highly recommend this tour of a spectacular part of New Zealand.
We can’t say enough in a short comment about our travel guide, Helen Tait, who really added to our experience and seemed to go out of her way to put our enjoyment first in every situation.
The whole experience with Moa was excellent from our first email contact, receipt of the brochure and follow ups prior to the trip and their presence at the airport on our departures and arrival.

This experience was 1000 times better than riding a bus that seats 60 people. It's much more personable and thr van has a little more flexibility in where it can go.
Our guide, Cameron, was very friendly and clearly passionate about New Zealand's nature and Maori culture.
If you are going to Milford Sound, I would recommend doing this tour, going by van, then take a flight back to Queenstown if you can afford it. That way you can see Milford Sound by vehicle, boat, and plane. (The trip by plane is 45 minutes vs a 4 hour car ride). DO IT! It's so worth it

So when it says that they return you to the point of departure at the end of the tour does that mean all the hotels and listed stops that they picked up people from or the place where the the boat departs from?

How can I get from Christchurch to Queenstown for this trip?
Written 20 July 2022
We did that trip but in reverse: Queenstown to Christchurch. We drove and I would highly recommend this as there are so many amazing things to do along the way. The Hooker Valley track would be the highest on our list. An easy walk alongside a river and with scenery of Mt Cook and glaciers- which ends at an inland lake with icebergs! We did stay a night in Lake Tekapo which is about halfway so that we had the time to stop whenever we wanted but you could easily drive it in one day.

Hi!
We just booked this tour but we never saw an option to upgrade to the “mitre” cruise. Is this option still available? We’re going on this cruise for our honeymoon!
Thank you in advance!
Written 10 December 2019
Hi
It certainly use to be available, we went on the mitre tour which is slightly more exclusive however its not going to make a big difference to your day - the other boat looked fine and was only slightly bigger. Avoid the orange boat which was massive.
Check if you have a packed lunch included so you know.
