      Weta tour trip
Interesting . Group timed guides into the worshop. Saw many props from many films and series . Done a very quick workshop using just foil! Not enough time to do much. Hoping to see some special effects make up and the line but none available that day although we did have an explanation on how they do the prothestic masks. It was good but very quick tour of 1 hour 30 mins . Recommend for lord of the rings fans as lots of props .

Very good experience, though more costly than anticipated
Really enjoyed this trip with 2 teenage grandsons, who loved the swords. Guide Angie very enthusiastic. Very thorough information. Great to be able to handle things. We were surprised that once we had booked, discovered the dollars were American, which wasn't in the blurb ( unless I missed it). So seemed more expensive than we were anticipating.

      Highlight of our trip!
Our tour guide was the absolute best!! He was super enthuisiastic and passionate about Weta and it really transferred across to all who did the tour. His excitement was infectious. He was AMAZING!! I absolutely loved being able to see all of the hard work and passion that goes into all of the Weta projects. The tour was the highlight of our trip to Wellington along with visiting the Weta Gallipoli exhibit at Te Papa.

      Weta Workshop Wonders!
Super enthusiastic guide, interesting displays and great explanations. Hands on with aluminium foil fabulous too. Only wish would be to have had a peek into the live workshop areas (appreciate non-disclosure issues may be a barrier to that).

      Totally worth a visit!!
The tour guide was very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The tour had lots of interaction, films to watch and objects to see. Also some real people who work at weta to demo what they do. Much more interesting than other tours at other attractions

      Interesting exposure to Wētā
Overall this was an interesting tour and a great opportunity to learn more about Wētā and the projects the company has worked on. Our tour guide was very kind and clearly passionate about the studio. Unfortunately, it felt like much of the tour was spent watching pre-recorded videos vs. experiencing the studio itself. Be aware that this tour doesn’t really include seeing the workshop (at least the version we took). You do see some very cool original props from LOTR and other films, but the rest is spent moving through rooms seeing examples of the collectibles and a few hands-on props likely geared toward kids. We enjoyed the tour but I would say it felt more like an advertisement for the workshop than an informational experience. Worth doing if you’re a movie buff!

Made me appreciate their creativity. Wow!!!
Our guide was very good. It has inspired me to watch all the Hobbit and Lord of the Ring and many more movies they have made.

      Worth a visit
An interesting place to visit if you are into movies like Hobbit, Narnia etc. Our guide was excellent and knowledgeable, he was able to answer any questions. No photos are allowed inside the studio, which is a bit of a shame, but still worth a visit.

      Fun, Creative, Inspiring Experience!
What a fun, creative, inspiring experience for us and for our two grandkids, ages 11 and 15! We all also loved the separate Creative Workshop - Intro to Makeup where we made real looking wounds with blood(!?) on ourselves!

      Amazing!
Touring weta workshop getting to see and hear all the behind the scenes stuff was so so cool. It definitely exceeded my expectations. I went alone and had a great time. One thing that I really loved was getting a peak into some of the peoples stories of how they got into their craft and wound up at weta workshop, made me recommend a very talented friend of mine to apply! There’s also a great gift shop! I love my weta workshop hat, people keep asking me if I work there when I wear it 😂 I would highly recommend this for any one who is an art nerd, movie buff, or LOTR fan! 💜

      Absolute Joy
The Weta Workshop was excellent. Bianca, our guide, was terrific. It was awesome to see all the great work Weta has done for different movies, not just The Lord of the Rings. Very enjoyable day.

      Just WOW
What an amazing experience to go through Weta Workshop. It was incredible to witness the work that is created by very talented individuals collaborating together. I didn't realise just how many projects Weta has been involved in. So inspiring. Definitely worth the money. It was more than I expected.

      Must Do for LOTR fans
Great activity if you appreciate all the hard work that goes into producing costumes and props for movies. Definitely recommend for Tolkien fans. I had Tarsh as my tour leader and she was amazing! Such a wonderful perso !

Great way to spend an afternoon!
This tour exceeded our expectations. The kids really enjoyed it and my husband was really soaking it all in. Our tour guide, Imogen, was so knowledgeable and we thought she really added to our excitement with her enthusiasm. Also, my daughter unexpectedly needed some assistance, and all the staff went above and beyond to make sure she was comfortable during our tour.

I love it, it's amazing and you can tell how much people enjoy working there. You can ask all sorts of questions and the guys are happy to answer and give you some insight of all the work that's been done there. Definitely a must do in Wellington, all the art is beautiful and you can get an idea of how much creativity is put into all the work.

This is a must do activity if you’re interested in special effects or the Lord of the Rings, or you’re just a ‘movie buff’. It was good, although it wasn’t what I expected. You can’t take photos so there’s not a lot to show for your visit. You’re guided around maybe 5-6 rooms where props are on display your guide tells you more about them. However it’s not a ‘behind the scenes’ tour so you don’t get to see a lot of the artists at work (apart from a glimpse into the master wordsmith’s area which was fascinating.)

The only area where you can take photos is an odd final room where they demonstrate tinfoil modelling - and there’s the obligatory ‘dressing up photo opportunity’ here too so you can buy an image as you leave.

I came away a little bit underwhelmed. Seeing the costumes and swords from Lord of the Rings was great, but the overall experience was a bit slow paced (some rooms took too long, others I would have liked more time in).

You walk around with maybe 20 other people and a guide.

Transfer from the city was on time and the driver provided an interesting commentary on the way to the Weta Workshop. We thoroughly enjoyed this interactive tour to see the highly skilled and talent work produced at this Workshop for Lord of the Rings and many other movies.
We were also lucky to see the chief sword maker at work the day we visited.

I went with my 10 year old son on the tour. The ride from the isite to Weta Workshops was brilliant, our driver Grant was amazing with his knowledge of film sets and the areas we were driving through. Upon arriving he made sure we got our tickets and briefed us on the time for the return journey. Our tour guide Mel was passionate in her role, so informative about how things work and are made. My son was amazed with the electronic and techno side of the props where he could see himself wanting to do this. the time just flew by.
The "Thunder birds are go" set blew me away lol, After the tour we had time to wander the Weta Shop before taking the ride back into Wellington, Again our driver went out of his way as my son and I had booked the lunch after the tour and Grant walked us to the restaurant to make sure we got our table, An amazing morning Thank you..

Annie (hope I spelled it right) was a great guide, she had to deal with a party of 18 (noisy , distracting and generally a pain) and she handled them poise and professionalism . Great job. Made the experience great for the rest of the attendees. Thanks

Did the basic tour but it’s pretty much what I needed. Everything that I needed to know was covered in the tour. Also the collectibles and items for sale in the Weta Cave store is so cheap. I bought 2x Tungsten Rings official replica and some shirts. Also they have the exclusive items on store. Looking forward to visit the Auckland Weta Workshop.

For enthusiasts of film and the tv features made in New Zealand, especially the Lord of the Rings movies, but also others, a trip to see some of the behind the scenes work would be a must do. We took two tours combined with pick and drop off from downtown Wellington - big thanks to Grant for added information and a drive around Miramar to briefly glimpse the film stages and giant blue screen. Tours started at the Weta Cave shop, the Weta Workshop, then to see the models used for the Thunderbirds are go tv series. It's just great to see the costumes and other props that seem real although actually mostly plastic. I recommend the tours although I would have liked a bit more depth and more detail. If short of time, and not wishing to spend the money on tours, a visit to the shop and mini-museum might be good enough.

We did this tour with Lester as our guide.. he was probably our favorite local guide during 2 week trip around Australia and New Zealand - very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and interesting! Great job Lester - we enjoyed when he showed as around in the park/forest where LOTR scenes had been filmed! The WETA workshop is super cool for movie buffs - be aware - there ARE some areas where you are allowed to touch items and take photos, and others where you are not.. it was fun to see one of Peter Jackson's actual Oscars though! (you can't touch that one!) - also - don't miss the super enthusiastic lady who sculpts using aluminum foil, and teaches you how to do the same - hands on! Overall - a very fun experience. Recommended.

We had a really fabulous day doing the tour and seeing how the movie characters and props for Lord of the rings and other movies - were made. The tour was interesting and fun. Particularly enjoyed talking with sculptor who made the large trees that came alive in the LOR movie - about the experience. Highly recommend a visit.

I loved it! I really enjoyed our tour guide and learning about the expansive scope of Weta Workshops in the entertainment industry today. I loved being in the room with all the incredible replicas from my favorite films!

There are public transit options for the transfer also. If you have your own car, I recommend driving there yourself so you can explore the area around the studio or make stops along the beautiful, scenic beaches along the way.
