- DamianMead0 contributionsReally fabulousExcellent experience with Wildfinder. A feeling of freedom for three days straight that lasts a week afterwards. There were some roads to navigate but cycle paths are being built along most of them.Written 17 October 2024
- M8025LVjackier0 contributionsAwesome Remutaka Rail TrailA fantastic cycle trail in Wellington enjoyed the Hutt River Trail then onto the Rail Trail onto the coast which was very wild weather & washed out did not complete the coast ride next time! The friendly staff Issac kept us informed about distances weather food coffee we liked & if we were enjoying ourselves. Ebikes were great accommodation friendly & comfortable highly recommend this company Wild Finder.Written 17 October 2024

- Z6413LWmichaelb0 contributionsRemutaka, solo and in winterI did the Remutaka trail. Not as tough as I was expecting. A nice steady incline. Bush views and lots of historical things to look at. Tunnels and swing bridge make it a little bit different. Good down hill run and a small singletrack section at the end. Wildfinder were excellent The bikes were good. Food and accommodation (at Featherston) excellent. As a solo rider I appreciated the GPS tracker. Isaac was great. So flexible with the arrangements to fit my time availability and the weather. From Siberia Tunnel I had rain, lightening and hail. I appreciated Isaacs pick-up at Cross Creek.Written 23 August 2024
- wc98280 contributionsThe place to rent bikes for the Remutake rail trail ride. The Wildfinder bike hire company, which has locations in and around Wellington, has a small location at the Remutake Rail Trail start. The young staffer was friendly and very knowledgeable. It was an overcast and potentially rainy day and we were on the verge of bagging the ride. He convinced us to get on the ebikes and go, and it was a great ride with typical New Zealand rail trail scenes (tunnels, swing bridges, gorges). The rain never came and we thoroughly enjoyed the ride (20km to the end and back).Written 7 March 2024
- 978priscillav0 contributionsExcellent companyThe staff Alex and Isaac were excellent, caring friendly and informative. We had to change our pickup on the last day suddenly due to family circumstances and the company ,Dave was very accommodating in organising this. On the first day you are given a briefing , issued bike lights, first aid kit and locator. Excellent. A App with circuit on for the phone would have been helpful as maps got wet on 1st day. We found the Hutt Valley track ( a council issue) poorly marked but Locals were helpful. A great ride with excellent accommodation. Just be aware that at Lake Ferry if it's not a couple the bedding is sofa bed ( for 2nd person) in small space as bikes needed to be inside to charge overnight. At all accommodations bikes had to be in room for charging, perhaps in the future they may be better set up for ebikes like on West Coast of NZWritten 2 March 2024
- T4749HAwendyb0 contributionsGreat DayThoroughly enjoyed our bike ride on the Remutaka Rail Trail , loved the scenery, the tunnels, and the bridge, it made it all alot more interesting.. The lunch supplied was delicious . Everything about the day was wonderful .Written 18 February 2024
- David M0 contributionsAn outstanding experience. We 5 pensioners took a 5 day e-bike tour through the Remutakas and the Wairarapa valley. The support and organisation through Wildfinder was outstanding. Special thanks to Isaac, Alex and Dave.Written 17 February 2024
- Gemmaister0 contributionsFantastic ride, great operators, highly recommendWe did the 2 day/1 night Remutaka Cycle Trail starting from Wellington CBD, taking the ferry across to Eastbourne where we were met by the friendly Isaac who explained the route over coffee at the pleasant beachside cafe. We discussed various start points and options to accommodate how long we wanted to ride for and when we wanted to reach our accommodation. Isaac was extremely accomodating and nothing was too much trouble over the 2 days. There were regular, but not intrusive, checkins, excellent route info/maps, comfortable accommodation and the food was delicious and plentiful. We hired mountain bikes (one of which was electric so we could ride together due to our differing cycling abilities) and found them good quality and comfortable. The ride itself was great - plenty of beautiful scenery which was at times also wild and dramatic. The first day was easy and the first half of the second day was too. If you decide to do the full route and cycle from Ocean Beach to Orongorongo be prepared to push the bike through soft sand and shingle for lengthy stretches. The scenery on this part of the ride is fantastic as you are following the coast the whole way but that wind is very strong at times so be prepared to be stopped in your tracks while the wind does its thing. We enjoyed this ride a lot and thought Wildfinder were excellent and professional operators. We highly recommend them.Written 13 February 2024
- Trek172048870020 contributionsA really great day out bikingWe really enjoyed out day on the Wildfinder eBike Cycle Tour. We were picked up at the Wellington railway station by Cooper who took us up to the start of the trail at Kaitoke. He gave us a very comprehensive safety briefing and explained all the features of the ebikes, and the various safety equipment that was with the bikes. We were also provided with an excellent map and instructions. The trail to the summit follows the old railway line and is reasonably easy going with some spectacular views, especially at the bridges. There are numerous sign boards along the route that made fascinating reading. It was a very windy day so we didn't stay too long at the Summit settlement and headed down the east side towards the Wairarapa, down the route of the old fell railway, to Cross Creek where we had our lunch. The packed lunch provided by WildFinder was excellent. The section of the trail from Cross Creek to the Cross Creek car park is a little more difficult and it’s only one bike wide, and you need to concentrate a bit more on this section. As we had made reasonable time we biked into a strong head wind through to Featherstone, where we enjoyed a cold drink at the Royal Hotel before being picked up by Cooper. We were then transported back to the Wellington railway station arriving back at around 3:30 PM. The ebikes provided were very comfortable and we still had plenty of range on the battery at the end as for most of the route we only needed to use the eco setting. The pannier bags provided held all the safety equipment and space for our lunch. We had a thoroughly great day out and strongly recommend this trip with WildFinder.Written 14 January 2024
- CJKing10 contributionsFirst class customer service matched with stunning views and beautiful accommodationWildfinder provided excellent customer service- staff were friendly, helpful, flexible and supportive. This was matched with an emphasis on safety. The accommodation was first class. The route was stunning, amazing scenery and although challenging in places ( single track, a few hills), it was manageable- we had normal mountain bikes. Cannot recommend this company highly enough.Written 21 December 2023
- jojufa0 contributionsBroken chain - no problem!!Did the source to the sea ride from the Kaitoke kiosk to Days Bay, in Eastbourne using one of the e-bikes. Wildfinder was very helpful setting up the ride, even providing me with a spare e-bike battery just in case the original battery died (which it did 3 km prior to my destination). My bike chain broke at the beginning of the ride - although a bike chain repair kit, spare link and instructions are provided along with the spare tyre, I threaded the chain back onto the derailleur incorrectly and got stuck. I contacted Wildfinder and Paycee met me a bit later, where she was quickly able to fix my chain and get me back on the road again. The ride along the south section of the Remutaka rail trail and along the Hutt River is a scenic highlight - it is mostly downhill, with (for the most part) very good gravel or paved bike paths, with only a few sections around Eastbourne requiring street riding. I highly recommend Wildfinder - they have very good bike tours with excellent support and service.Written 17 June 2023
- JohnHarrisNZ0 contributionsOver the hill on ebikes with a shuttle backHired two ebikes at Kaitoke to cross the hill section of the Remutaka rail trail with friends who are a bit hardcore M Bikers. We added a pick up on the far side for return to Kaitoke afterward for all four of us Bike set up was good, bikes were great and comfy. Ride is easy with the far side being all downhill. Uphill side is an easy ride, even without e bike. The grade 3 for the downhill side seems a bit harsh, not tecnically hard but a bit narrow in places Very interesting history, good weather (not guaranteed) Took us 3 hours not rushing at all. Windfinder staff were friendly and helpful Great tripWritten 26 April 2023

- Navigate277727240130 contributionsCross creek to Days BayAwesome experience from start to finish! This trip had been on my to do list for a while and didn't disappoint. After reviewing the options, I didn't want a multi-day experience but wanted a longer journey so opted for the reversi and sought some advice from over the phone when booking to put my mind at ease. I was travelling from Auckland and unfortunately was unable to fly due to the cyclone - the team at wildfinder were awesome at allowing me flexibiliity to re-book when I was able. I booked in a few weeks later. The organisation was top class. Being picked up from my door, given maps, a high quality bike and a yummy lunch was great! Big shout out to Tony who was a fab host and gave me all the information I needed (including phoning him to check I was going to right way later on)! Tony is very helpful, chilled out and the perfect guide - super nice person. My bike was great, the trail itself was great - I was a solo rider and my favorite part was the incline just close to the start and the suspension bridge. The rest of the trail was great too, including the tunnels and the ride into Days bay to finish. Highly recommend - even if you live in Wellington - this option makes it super easy as you just need to turn up! Thanks heaps team - well deserving of your 5 starts and great value for money.Written 18 March 2023

Just finished the 4 day, 3 night circular Remutaka Cycle Trail from Days Bay clockwise around the Remutakas and back to Days Bay. All in, about 160km.
The service by Everyone’s Adventure is really good, good bikes, great food and good maps and directions.
The trail itself varies from urban cycle paths through to grade 4 trails along the side of very steep slopes. Like the trail, the experience is varied, from tough uphill slogs to high speed thrills from a down hill plunge.
Accomodation is good to basic. This is the beginning of this trail becoming one of the worlds great destination rides and the accommodation will get better with time.
Enjoy the ride and enjoy the remote beauty of this fantastic place.

This is a must-do ride. Wildfinder were excellent to deal with right from the initial time of booking right through to them collecting our bikes on the other side. Isaac is a top guy - explained everything clearly to us, patiently explained how to use the bikes and set us off in the right direction. He was there to meet us at Featherston and was genuinely interested in how our ride went.

We have just ridden the rail trail in 3 days.. We can't speak highly enough of Wildfinder's involvement in makng this such a memorable sibling experience. There is a fabulous culture in this company as everyone we had contact with either in person or online were just amazing, so personable, engaging, informative, helpful and funny. Thank you Charlotte Dave, Peter, Tony and Matt and the others we didn't meet. Being given a tracking device too was an excellent safety feature. We highly recommend using Wildfinder to cycle The Remutaka Trail

Don’t do their 5 days tour!!!
First 1.5 days of the 5 day tour are everything you would imagine. Lovely peaceful shared used paths and cycle trails. The remaining 3.5 days are a complete nightmare for someone not used to riding on 100kph county highways and roads.
My wife tried to communicate her concerns for her safety with the owner. Who basically flipped it back on her by defending his use of the term “quiet country roads”, and said it was “unfortunate too we were not made aware that your top priority was to stay off road” .
Well we’re on a nice vacation we would have thought it was blatantly obvious we didn’t what do predominantly road riding on this type of tour.
I would have put this review against their 5 day tour, but for SOME reason the owners choose not to advertise the 5 day tour on a platform like trip advisor where people will review it….

We were picked up in downtown Wellington on time and had a very happy ride to the start of the track with all our questions answered and sights explained.
We were given good explanations about the bikes and they were set up well for our use.
The trail was magnificent, a big swing bridge and the last bit of narrow track was the hardest but if we could manage anyone could. The packed lunch and water was ample and all in all a great day. At the end we had a fast bike into Featherstone for a coffee which was a nice finish. After all this we were picked up and transported back to the hotel.
I can’t recommend this enough as a day in the NZ bush and enjoying the history of the trains that opened up the Wairarapa in the early 19th century.

Our group of 6 have just had a very enjoyable 3 day cycle experience with Wildfinder on the Rimutaka Trail. Every day a completely different experience, and the whole trip was superbly organized. The accommodation, food, the logistics and the personalized care from Tony and Pete all fabulous.
The trail itself was terrific, and we loved the option of up close seal colony, fishing boat retrieval and lighthouse at Cape Palliser on the final day. Great option guys !
Can't recommend this trail enough, will be back.

We rode the 6day/5 night Remutaka trail through Wildfinder. Their service was excellent from great accommodation, good food provided and information on routes and highlights of tour. Staff were fantastic and made the tour run smoothly. The bike ride was beautiful with plenty to see enroute. We saw seals and dolphins.
Would highly recommend anyone wanting to ride this tour to use Wildfinder.

The Remutaka Rail Trail is just outside Upper Hutt, north of Wellington on New Zealand's North Island. This was our third rail trail outing in the country and they were all wonderful. The trail is 20km round trip, slightly less if you just ride to the summit. There are three tunnels and a suspension bridge on the way. We rented ebikes from Wildfinder (located at the start of the trail) and they came in handy with the steeper parts of the route. Had lunch at the summit and continued to the end, the suspension bridge over the gorge.
