We were thrilled with our time spent at the reserve. To maximize time and get the best bird sightings we booked in advance the morning 10:00 tour with one of there excellent guides. We lucked out with Jim, an enthusiastic naturalists trained in a related field. It was like he was Dr Doolittle as the bird sightings seem to happen with ease. His knowledge, communications skill and hospitality provided for a great ambassador to the site as well as NZ. He shared conservation efforts and eco practices as well. The free shuttle bus to/ fr the site to down town was also very helpful. The driver provided a great into to the area as well as tips for other sites in town . Special day. Thank you Jim our guide and Julian our shuttle driver.

We spent two very enjoyable hours here with one of the volunteer guides walking around Zealandia. We learnt about the origins of Zealandia, saw lots of birds and tuatara and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We'd spent the previous day and many more $ on a tour of the north end of Kapiti Island and this was a superior experience in every way. Take the opportunity to go and support this extraordinary achievement before it is once again overrun by visitors from overseas.

A Jurassic Park of NZ with friendly creatures! Stunning! Make sure you dedicate a day for this. Tours are 11.00, 12.00 and 1.00. but one can walk the trails self-guided, with a map and interactive stations. The main ‘easy’ trial take about 2 hours return on an easy gradient. There are others more challenging. The native bush gives a feeling of what it would have been like when the first pakeha arrived. Make sure to visit the displays before beginning the walk.
Cafe serves up some tasty food and plenty of it.

We booked a two hour tour, not realising that it entitles you to a free entry the next day. Our guide was Robin and he was very good with just the right amount of humour. The two hours flew by, and so did many exotic birds which Robin pointed out to us. The park itself is a beautiful and relaxing place to stroll through. In two days there I reckon we only scratched the surface. We missed the Takahe on the guided tour but Orbell was strutting his stuff the following day.

Had a 10am daytime tour with Roy … such a lovely guide…just the right amount of talking and he was so helpful finding me the Hihi bird which had a special meaning for me with a connectiontomHihi beach Northland.
We loved it all…a well polished team help keep this place up to date and everything running on time.
The birds, tuataras, lizards.. all played there part and there was plenty to see.
We would have missed a lot just going without a guide. So thank you to all at Zealandia for a beautiful Wellington blue dome windless Sunday morning treat.

What an amazing get-away from the city but so close and convenient! We had an enthusiastic and knowledgeable tour guide (Gabriel) who taught us so much about the sanctuary and the birds. We loved this tour so much that we brought another couple there the next day! It was great after the tour to spend time on our own and hike all the trails which afforded us the privilege of seeing even more birds. We absolutely loved this adventure and afterward walked through the botanical gardens back to the city. A fabulous day!

We visited Zealandia as part of an organised cruise excursion and it was an inspired choice. Basically it is Jurassic Park in reality. A designated area on the outskirts of Wellington has been enclosed in electric fencing having been cleared of predators that are not indigenous to New Zealand. The tour included a local guide who was knowledgeable and enthusiastic with regard to the local flora and fauna. Do not miss this attraction in windy Wellington.

Hubby and I spent at least 2.5 hours on a small group tour in the July school holidays. It was well worth doing the tour and having the knowledge shared of this amazing park/land. We loved seeing the tuatara at Zealandia. The knowledge of our guide Paul was fantastic. His pronounciation and use of te reo was also impressive. Great 2-3 hours. Thanks!

We took a 2 hour guided tour, which in our opinion is the best way to go. You watch a movie prior to the tour which sets the tone for a wonderful experience. By doing the tour your guide will be able to locate more species of birds than you couldon your own (unless you are expert of course). Our guide was very informative and you could tell his passion for his job. We were able to see a lot of interesting birds including the Kaka, Takahe, HiHi, Tui and the Kakariki, really amazing. If you have time after your tour you could spend many more hours here since there seem to be a lot of walking and hiking trails. A nice area to get out of the hustle and bustle of Wellington proper.

On arrival we were warmly welcomed and split into small groups to enter the reserve. Throughout the tour we were given loads of information, had wildlife and plants pointed out, encouraged to ask questions and generally well looked after. The tour was easy paced and apart from some steps, which could be avoided if need be, it was ok for all ages.

The work they are doing here is excellent and is well worth a visit. There was a film afterwards about the project, and a nice cafe and gift shop. At the end we were sincerely thanked for visiting.
