An unmissable tour for Lord of the Rings fans
A knowledgeable, friendly and entertaining guide Dixie provided the perfect accompaniment to a hugely entertaining tour. If I had to find any fault might I suggest QR Codes on the Rivendell information boards (which do need refreshing anyway). All in all this is highly recommend, read essential, to all Lord of the Rings fans.

Reliving the magic of Middle-earth ffter 15 Years - Absolutely Incredible!
Revisiting the Lord of the Rings Tour 15 years later was an unforgettable experience! Dixie, our guide, was fantastic - her knowledge, stories, and even fun props like Frodo’s pipe made the tour so immersive. Walking through iconic locations like Mt. Victoria, Rivendell (Kaitoke Regional Park), the Gardens of Isengard (Harcourt Park), and the Anduin (Hutt) River brought Middle-earth to life in a way that felt fresh and exciting, even for someone who’s done it before. The addition of the Rivendell gate (wasn't there 15y ago) and the Weta Workshop tour made it even more magical. This is a must-do for any LOTR fan - you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into Middle-earth!” HINT: Bring more swords, staffs, capes, and maybe even carrots for us nerds to fully geek out. 🤣 Relax and be nerdy to the max!

For LOTR fans this full day emersion of seeing the locations where many of the scenes were created and then the Weta workshop to see the real swords, armor, masks is a must do. Our family loved the entire day and the tour guide was super nice and full of stories and insights

There and back again, and unexpected(ly fun) journey
An excellent day out for any LOTR fan if you’re in wellington. Fantastic if you don’t have a car as they drive you everywhere and some great hidden spots. Fun and informative guides with excellent commentary (Andrew was amazing and had lots of anecdotes). Even got some extra tips for Greta places to visit for the rest of our wellington stay.

a MUST for Lord of the Rings fans- An absolutely incredible tour!
This tour was absolutely amazing for Lord of the Rings fans! I had no idea how many film sites there were in the area, and highly enjoyed seeing them in person. Our tour guide Grant was incredibly knowledgeable about the books, movies, and the entire filming process. The anecdotes he told us throughout the day made us laugh, nod, think, and all in all appreciate the dedication of Peter Jackson, the cast, and the tireless crew members that made the movies possible. The Weta workshop tour was the perfect length of time, and the guides there were enthusiastic and informative, again impressing us with the extent of detail included in their piece of the tour. Lunch was included and expansive- plenty of ribs and chickin wings to go around, as well as some New Zealand-special desserts. Some admin notes- The company was very good at getting back to us to answer any questions or concerns we had about the trip. We were on a cruise ship that was a bit late coming into port, but they were responsive when we kept them apprised, and were flexible to pick us up there at the docks. We had young kids with us who haven't seen the movies or read the books yet, but there was enough time to get out of the bus to keep them entertained walking paths, throwing stones into a river, or even playing at a playground at one of the stops. There was a fair amount of walking that would be difficult with a wheel chair or walker, but otherwise manageable for our party- to include a 2.5 year old and a 66 year old who had knee surgery ~10 months prior. You'll see some negative reviews, but note that they are all or predominantly from people who haven't seen/read or didn't care for the Lord of the Rings trilogy. If you're one of those, this tour isn't for you! But if you are a fan... this might be the best day of your life! :)

          Great tour and wonderful time!
This was a great tour and was really enhanced by the tour guide. I am kicking myself that I cannot remember his name, but he was awesome. The tour showed us several filming locations and the workshop. I found what I really remember is the stories and light heartedness of the tour. It was greatly enjoyed!

Our guide, Samuel, picked us up shipside, so it was quite convenient. He shared interesting info about Wellington as we drove to our first stop at Mt. Victoria where he showed us several sites where filming of the Lord of the Rings movies took place, accompanied with photos of the actual movie scenes. The visit to Weta was led by one of their tour guides, an energetic young lady. She showed us displays of various props, costumes, automatronics, etc. When we finished that tour, Samuel showed us the various buildings that make up Weta productions I'm Mirimar. It was a fun tour.

We booked this tour the evening before, not knowing quite what to expect. We wanted to squeeze in some extra LotR stuff into our trip and this was a great addition! Our tour guide was Irish Dave!!! He was an incredible tour guide who was hilarious and full of interesting bits of information on Lord of the Rings films. He also pointed out a bunch of landmarks and notable local spots. We had such a blast with him.

Highlights: We saw where the Hobbits hide from the Nazgul after Frodo says “Get off the road!”
Our Weta tour was slightly delayed (15 minutes) so Dave took us by the Roxy and we got to take photos of and with the Gandalf statue out front. We also stopped in a shop and met an artist and actor who was in the Hobbit!

Weta tour with Austin was pretty great as well. Very informative, just wish you could take photos of and with the props/costumes.

This was awesome. You get to see some of the places from the first Lord of the Rings movie. You get to sit in the tree where Frodo and Sam smoke some pipe leaves. The tour ends with a visit to the Weta workshop which did a lot of the stuff for the movies. The guided tour at the workshop is at extra cost. A movie about the workshop is free.

Loved the tour . It was an excellent experience. I haven’t seen the LOTR movies & was expecting it to be boring, but was quite surprised how enjoyable the whole tour was. I went with my adult children who are fans & they loved it also.
We were in Wellington for a day only, the half day tour was perfect as we still had the afternoon to explore the city .

There are copycats out there but this one is the original! Chewy the main contact person apart from the guide treats me like a royalty customer. He’s so very very nice to talk to over the phone and 100% responsive to every text I asked. I reckoned Chewy has a military training background so quick to act to his customers. Maybe he’s the mystery manager that Grant, our very knowledgeable and equally kind tour guide is reporting to. As for Grant, I’m very pleased with his initiative in making my Mom comfortable during our tour especially in the forest. The best thing I liked with Chewy is his sincere action to find my Mom’s lost phone during the tour. Good news! His kind efforts paid off and Mom’s phone was found and returned to us. Cool as Chewy! Thanks again!

We're always happy to reunite people with their lost property! Chewy doesn't have military training, but does run a tight ship in the hope of everything running smoothly. We really enjoyed our afternoon. We were picked up by Laura and alas, we were the only two on the tour (that's Covid for you! - hopefully things will pick up). We really enjoyed our tour - Weta Workshop is very interesting and our guide Emily was very enthusiastic. We also did the Thunderbirds tour which was one of the highlights for us. Laura then took us to Mt Victoria and showed us some LotR film locations and the scenes that were shot there - Laura was very friendly and knowledgable and made the afternoon an enjoyable one.

While I understand that this company is competitively priced, i was very underwhelmed at the sites we saw during this tour, thus I feel there are other things to do in Wellington instead of a LOTR tour.

Our tour guide was very friendly and chatty, however we encountered a few problems. First off, we were told that we would be picked up from our hotel at 8:35AM and we woke up early and got breakfast and was ready in the hotel 10 minutes early. We were not picked up until after 9AM as they had last minute bookings and other passengers were not timely picked up, causing us to wait nearly half an hour.

While on the tour, our guide took us to Victoria Peak and told us some great facts about the area. The view from the peak was fantastic! We then went to one of the major scenes of the first LOTR movie, which was easily noticeable from the film and again our guide had interesting stories and provided us with little known facts about the location. We then went to Weta Cave and things started to go a bit sour. After completing our tour, we waited for what felt like an hour waiting for a credit card machine. Instead of making us wait for a long time while we were hungry, it would have been nice if the other driver had met us at the cafe where we had lunch. The lunch spot had a special menu, however there was no LOTR inspired food on the menu.

After lunch we went to the Anduin River and the guide was going off on tangents about other movies and characters and we spent a long time just standing and listening to the guide before heading back to the bus. After this we went to Rivendell, which was a fun spot and did a little walk and heard about the how they were planning to build a facility at the location. We had a snack and drink and then went to Isengard, which was quite underwhelming (at least to me because it was a frisbee golf park and looked nothing like what the movie portrays). We spent what felt like an hour here and due to the morning mishap and waiting for the card machine, we ended up at the hotel later than expected. We were briefly shown Helms Deep and Minas Tirith locations from the bus, which again you would have no idea any filming happened there. While the tour delivered on what it promised, I just feel it was not worth the full day we had in Wellington and certainly not worth the cost.

For other Wellington visitors, I'd recommend not doing a LOTR tour as there are better things you can do with your time and money. Please note I am a lord of the rings fan and this review is my opinion. I will reiterate that the tour delivers what it states, however not worth the cost.
