- Rotorua Canopy Tours Risk Disclosure Statement: Rotorua Canopy Tours is an adventure activity that has risks and the potential to encounter hazards due to the nature of the activity and the unpredictable natural environment in which the tour operates. Rotorua Canopy Tours operates a strict safety management system that is audited to New Zealand standards and best practice for adventure activities including weather operating parameters to reduce exposure to these risks and hazards; however, we cannot completely mitigate all of them. It is important you are aware of these and that these risks and hazards may lead to injury, serious harm or death. Specific hazards and risks include but are not limited to vehicle accidents, falls from height, zipline collisions, entanglement in equipment, slips and falls, falling debris, staff errors, suspension trauma, exposure to typical NZ conservation practices such as trapping and adverse weather effects due to varying environmental conditions that can change quickly and without much warning. Weather can include but not limited to thunderstorms, strong winds and gusts, rain, heavy rain, hail and occasionally snow, as well as extreme temperatures and humidity (seasonal depending). Rotorua Canopy Tours will provide wet weather and warmth gear if required and will not let anyone participate if not dressed appropriate for the forecasted weather. Physical requirements Participants must under 120kg (264.5lb), be comfortable with being at heights, able to walk on uneven terrain, cross swing bridges, and ascend up to 6 flights of stairs. Participants should be well fed and hydrated before arriving. Participants should be prepared for physical demands if the tour needs to evacuate due to changes in weather or an emergency during the experience. An evacuation would require walking up to 1 hour on uneven forested trails with small inclines, declines, soft ground, and exposed tree roots. At most times during the experience, we are over one hour from the nearest hospital. Guests with a history of cardiac complications, those with low fitness levels who may be strained with the exertion of exercise, or those with any other significant health-related complexities who may require immediate help are at risk of not receiving treatment promptly. Individuals with such conditions should seriously consider whether they can complete the experience safely and comfortably. Emergency Services are not able to access most locations within the forest. Please contact us before booking if you have any concerns We take all practical steps to ensure your safety throughout the experience but by acknowledging this risk disclosure you and anyone you are booking for are aware that we can’t fully mitigate all risk and hazards and your safety cannot be fully guaranteed.

Only thing that would have made it better would have been a biscuit or meusli bar at some point. Our travel guide suggested we book this tour in Rotorua and we’re really glad she did as it was a great outing. We were picked up from our hotel in a van driven by Ben, one of our guides. He was extremely friendly and just a really nice person. As soon as we got to their office we were introduced to Locky, our other guide. He was much like Ben, just a nice, funny guy. They got us all outfitted with gear and off to the forest we went. Once we arrived , they explained in simple terms how the zip lines work and what to expect. There were eleven of us in the group and the guides made all of us feel very safe & secure. There were six or seven zip lines of various distances and heights. I had been zip lining a number of times but this tour was probably the best I have been on. The guides showed us some really cool things like riding the zip lines upside down. They had a wealth of knowledge about not only the area but also all things NZ. And they were very patient as I have a fear of heights but had no problems jumping off and sailing through the air over the magical forest. And coffee halfway through on the platform high above the forest was a great idea. Next time, will go back and do the Ultimate tour, bigger and higher!Written 4 March 2025

It was more than worth the money spent on this adventure as we were educated about the surroundings, kept quite secure by thorough safety procedures, entertained by the two zipline guides/masters, and even experienced a couple of occasions where birds, absent of fear, fed from our open hand. Now I know what it’s like to fly above the forest!
Our zipline guides, Andrew and John O, were most competent, engaging, humorous, informative, and attentive. Ask for them by name, accept no others!

Amazing .... simply amazing .. We had done zip lines before ,but this one was head and shoulders above anything we had done in the past. Our group consisted of 10 flyers and 2 guides , Mason and Sam, our guides, were incredible, from the minute we started you knew you were in the hands of professionals. They clearly explained what we would be doing and the safety procedure we would be following.
Side note, one of the picture shows a safety feature that I found unique. You were ALWAYS connected a safety cable, no matter if you were climbing stairs or waiting at a platform its nice touch and helped with the novices nervousness. A second one was attached when flying
Mason and Sam also served as our nature guides. Their knowledge of the plants and birds were amazing . Mason actually had live worms in a candy box, which when put in the palm of your hand a bird would fly down to get it. it was a nice touch
At the end of the tour they spend some time explaining the struggle they have with non native pests and what actions they are taking to preserve this area.
New Zealand is a relatively young country that does not have many old historic building what they do have is 1200 year old trees (That we launched from) and some of the beautiful countryside I have even seen we

We absolutely loved the canopy ziplining! It was such a special way to view the canopy of the beautiful rainforest with so much to see from high up. The ziplines were safe and fun and varied in different lengths and speeds. Our guides Chase and Harry were fantastic and full of knowledge about the forest and its fauna and flora. We highly recommend this for anyone wanting to do something beautiful, fun and educational!

We had so much fun on this tour which far far exceeded our expectations. The staff are in a league of their own when it comes to ensuring you get the best customer experience. From making the booking over the phone (we used a Chuffed gift voucher for the Original Tour but wanted to upgrade to the Ultimate Tour and bring along our two children), to their email communication, to the meet and greet at reception on our arrival through to the actual tour with our two guides George and Mitch, the experience was first class. The tour was both thrilling and interesting but above all, thanks to George and Mitch, was just so much fun. They were both so personable and entertaining to hang out with for a few hours and made you feel completely safe and relaxed. Thank you for such a memorable day. Couldn't recommend this enough. Winter, raining, not warm, what's there not to like. Not being a person who gets overly excited about these things I would happily avoid the attempts to get me hyped and ask questions I do not know the answers to, but hey, that's how these activities roll so I will not try to stop them, just so you are aware. It was professionally run with office staff through to guides exuding enthusiasm and approachability. Nervous group participants were handled well, along with the mouthy, cheeky, think they are funny (that's me) ones. More walking and stairs than I expected. A few of us were puffing from time to time but not overly strenuous. Enough height, stepping off high open platforms, zipline speed, a race and narrow moving bridges to give most people a buzz, or push their comfort zones. Interesting to see how most in the group relaxed into the challenge and were lounging about on the final platform compared to trying to grip with their toes on the first platform. Lack of toilet facilities will bother many, not an easy fix I suspect but thought I would mention it.

Hello Verne! haha yup we love all sorts of guests!! Those who claw at the first platform and those who laugh the whole way, joining in on our banter and woeful jokes! As you said, by the end most guests are launching themselves off platforms!! We have a huge amount of information about the tours on our website but It is hard to fully explain the experience, which is the beauty of it but also some bits may come as a surprise for some if having not read more about us. Really appreciate your review and insights and we will continue to emphasise that base is the only stop for bathroom breaks!! Thank you for adventuring with us!

Amazing!! Such a fun time with beautiful views and amazing tour guides! Jake and Vincent are a hilarious duo. Their sarcastic funny comments making everyone laugh and ease up who was feeling nervous. They made sure we all were safe at every point never felt in danger. Could not ask for better guides, truly made the experience that much better.

Went 6 months ago and had to bring the rest of my family back! Sam and Steve our guides made the experience that much better with their fun humour and vast knowledge. By far the best zip line we have been on and will 10/10 recommend to anyone!! Thanks team at canopy tours 🙏🏼

Great experience! The forest is absolutely gorgeous and the zip line tour gives you up close personal involvement with the beauty.
Guides Alex and Dylan were perfect guides. They did a great job assuaging fears of the more timid visitors. They had a great combination of professionalism, patience and humor.
Six zip lines, two suspension bridges, a very narrow catwalk and a controlled drop certainly provide a sense of adventure. Lots of stair steps provide plenty of exercise. There are endless photo opportunities and I appreciated the free photos they provide you of the adventure.

The Ultimate Canopy Zipline experience lived up to it's name. The ziplines were brilliant, so high in the stunning trees and so many wonderful extras included in the tour. Steve and Mitch our guides made our experience awesome. They made you feel comfortable and helped ease any fears, while being informative and really interesting. Highly recommend this activity for the thrill and the whole package of amazing guides, conservation, ecology, safety and lots of fun.

Highly recommended the ultimate tour. Our tour guides were incredible, extremely professional when it came to safety, knew everyone’s names and made you extremely comfortable on every zip line. The 400m race on two lines with who you were with was a great blast. Enjoyed every minute of the experience, couldn’t stop smiling and will go again.

Also, you can make arrangements for them to pick you up at your accommodation in Rotorua (which is what we did on our first trip to the tour). It's completely hassle-free, especially when booking on-line.

Should be OK for original tour (ultimate requires 10 or older). Part of problem is weight. Think of zipline as a U shape. Kids don't weigh much, so they may stall midway on zipline (don't get enough speed to go up to next station).
