Passionate, Enjoyable and Interactive
Jun. 2021
This provided a wonderful combination of Maori History and Culture. You get to see the hangi being raised and explained then an easy gentle walk through the bush with an explanation of and example of some Maori history and then back inside for a Hangi and show. Being run by a family who are passionate about who they are and what they are doing was amazing to experience. The Hangi was one of the best I have had ( I have had a few over the years) and I definitely recommend visiting if you have the opportunity.

Great evening, good food, nice show. ( opted for Mitai as they still do the hangi)
Excellent !! Enjoyed every minute ! Chose Mitai as read reviews and they still do the hangi traditional way.

Fantastic, due to covid no bus trip ( lack of tourists I guess) BUT we loved how they went from Polynesian to Maori and we got to experience both!! The food great , hospitality wonderful , loved everything and the holy spring water fountain blessed to see.. small group again due to covid but awesome and felt special!! Best way honestly as as a kiwi we blessed to live In a covid free country atm. Personally I think it’s best to travel with these hard times and support Maori and NZ places... thank you for your hospitality and to you Kylie ( just a little darker as you said 😂 ) . Kia Kaha

A Special Cultural Experience
Jan. 2021
We were so warmly welcomed and enjoyed the delicious hangi meal followed by the hula to Hakka concert. A highlight was the walk through the bush to the MItai VIllage and the sacred spring. The whole evening was a real learning experience for our teenage grandson.
MItai is doing an amazing job in these extraordinary times when we do not have international tourists. All New Zealanders should have a MItai Maori VIllage experience.

Well presented evening with a delicious meal. Kept everyone engaged. Learned more about our culture and its origins. The bush walk to Fairy Springs was beautiful and informative too.
Clean, hygienic presentation of food. Would definitely take visiting friends again.

Sad experience run by amateurs
Feb. 2020
The van (great driver) that collected us from our hotel was tired and run down and that’s basically how the rest of the evening panned out. They have been doing this for 20+ years they say and it showed. Our compere or host rambled in his speech which was repetitive and peppered with inaccuracies. The walks outside had too many people / not enough hosts so if you got stuck at the back, you couldn’t hear or even see the person speaking. The walkabout after dinner was even worse as not only could you not hear or see them, a lack of lights made wandering along forest paths a serious safety issue. The meal, cooked in a gas fired pit, looked good but it was all cold by the time we got to the self-service. The stage show lacked a story line and any form of choreography and was a very flat series of dance and song sound bites. It could be so much better but the profits are not being reinvested in infrastructure and the event needs improving. Get on and do something about it guys!

OK, just ok
Mar. 2020
The good: if you have never done a Polynesian-culture-type thing, this is pretty good for appreciating some of the Maori culture highlights.
The canoe procession, and the explanation of tools and instruments used, were both good. Being picked up from your hotel (to and from) is a major plus.. The wine/beer/drinks to buy (not included in meal) were not overpriced, and ok. The food was okay—esp. the NZ sweet potatoes and the chocolate roll dessert.

The bad: Disorganized from the get-go. There were way too many people there — about 300 in a sort of open grass-hut (and let me say, I was worried about fire exits the whole time); the group leaders couldnt manage all the people, and groups got mixed up and reshuffled during the "tour." Some of the food ran out before everyone had been through. The different "leaders" did not work together; altho they are sincere and part of a family-owned tradition in this business, they cannot get their message across when they are trying to collect money from so many people at once. Our group "leader" selected a "chief," and then somehow suddenly another guy was drafted by someone else to go up on stage and be the chief, but many in the group did not realize who he was representing. A lot of the chanting and stages of the program seemed like they were boring the people doing them, so how do you expect visitors to react?

Great Maori Experience
Mar. 2020
My husband and I felt that it was important to learn more about the Maoris while in New Zealand,. The performance was excellent, and the meal was also great. Everything was handled well. I did not give it a 5 for 2 reasons: 1. the announcer was a bit long winded 2. the walk to see the glowworms was a bit anti-climatic and actually a bit dangerous since it was not always easy to see the path. The actual experience, however, was top notch.

Great entertainment
Mar. 2020
The overall experience was very good: 4.5 stars for the entertainment and 3.5 stars for the food. If you can set aside your preconceptions of authenticity, there is a lot to enjoy and learn. The dancing and singing were awesome, especially the haka and poi dances. The tour of the village was a little bit rushed, but we had plenty of time to ask questions to the guides later. The fairy spring is cool. My only criticism is the food - it was just so-so. I've never had a hangi before, but I have had food cooked underground (many culture do this), and the flavor here was unimpressive.
