My wife found this excursion for us on Viator. We were so glad we could book this tour when our cruise ship stopped in Napier for a day. In total, there were 32 of us rafting in addition to the guides. Deon met us at the port and provided transportation to our launch site. The rafting trip was incredible. Thought we were in a wee bit of trouble when we were assigned to Mad Dog Mike as our guide, but he was an incredible host! He made the trip fun and enjoyable. Rafting trip lasted about 2 hours on the river and then we were treated to sandwiches and desert before we made our way back to the ship. I highly recommend this rafting trip when you have time on your visit to Napier.

Wow! We have just returned from our experience - Deon collected us from our cruise ship and drove us to his home where we were kitted out in appropriate clothing. After our safety briefing we had an amazing rafting experience. His knowledge of the river was extraordinary and he safely guided us through despite the recent damage from the cyclone. We then returned to his home and Jo ( his wife) provided a delicious lunch for us and we played with the pups Callie & Star and met Barbara the sheep and Peppa the pig - overall a great day had by all !

We were on a cruise around NZ from AU and ported at Napier where we decided to book this scenic rafting tour. Deon the organiser was fantastic! He met us at the port and picked up our large group of 9 along with another small group of 3. It was about an hour out to the rafting shed then we geared up and went out to the river. Deon made it lots of fun and assured one of our group members was safe as she’s terrified of water. Everyone loved this activity, everyone would love to do it again and would highly recommend to anyone wanting to see the beautiful outback of Napier. We saw many waterfalls and beautiful scenery where you really get close and personal with the outdoors.

We were looking for a rafting trip to introduce our children (ages 8-12) to their first ever rafting experience and were recommended Raft Fish. It was quite last minute but Deon was great to communicate with and managed to fit us in on a two hour, grade 2 experience. The company provides everything you need like wetsuits, footwear, life jackets and helmets. You just need your togs. Everyone we dealt with was so relaxed and friendly but also very experienced and knowledgeable and you felt in very good hands. The drive takes about 45mins from Napier towards Taupo and is in a truly stunning area with the beautiful Mohaka River. On arrival you get sorted with gear and a briefing and then they drive you to the start of your trip. The grade 2 level was very easy with a few small rapids along the way which the kids loved but more importantly, Deon made the entire trip fun with many opportunities for people to jump out for a brief swim, lots of splashing, and the odd intentional bump into rocks or float under a little waterfall for a bit of fun. We had four adults and five children in our raft (plus our guide) and while you do help to paddle, it’s by no means strenuous. Just a few paddles every so often to help Deon steer. I can’t recommend these guys highly enough. Genuinely lovely, fun people who put you at ease, know what they’re doing and are great with kids. And the scenery is incredible. A great trip for families. We’ll certainly be back!

We had a great time rafting on the Mohaka with Deon. We did a two hour trip - a good intro to rafting for me and a great way to see the river. Deon and Jo really looked after us, would definitely recommend this activity if you're in the area!

Visited with my grandad and his friend on a road trip around New Zealand. Amazing beautiful river. Deon our guide was amazing and very accommodating. I got my times a little mixed up and was booked to go that morning but ended up not being able to get there until 1200. Deon was great at rearranging the day no problem. Spent the afternoon rafting down a grade 2 second of river and having a go at fishing. Non of our party had done any fishing before, deon was great at giving us instruction and help. Caught a few great rainbow trout which tasted incredible fried with bacon the next morning Thanks

Deon & his team put on an excellent few hours on the water for a group of friends. Rafting, fishing and some shenanigans made for an excellent day out. Deon's hospitality is endless. Couldn't recommend highly enough!

Excellent guide, who was knowledgable, relaxed, in control of the raft, and humorous. Had a wonderful experience, and loved our conversations whilst fishing (very successfully!) and rafting down the river. Deon and Jo gave us an unforgettable day. An incredible pristine, private and biodiverse river valley. Would highly recommend this experience.

We had a fabulous time floating/rafting down the river. I don't think I've laughed so much and enjoyed myself as much as I did in a long time. Deon was a great guide and made the trip down the river a really memorable experience. I hope to return in the future and do it again.

Deon and the his team did a fantastic job in guiding us down the Mohaka River for three days. An awesome experience I would recommend for anyone keen to get into the outdoors. Great hospitality and genuinely a great team and hosts.

We had a group of 7 including 3 kids a was looking for a day excursion for a shore day in Napier. David our guide created a fabulous experience and had some great stories and interesting facts. Deon was great in helping us organise our day as we had left it to the last minutes. As we had to hire a car to get us group out as the bus was full we arrived earlier then everyone else and had the opportunity to commence our trip down the rover before anyone else. This created an experience of rafting with no one else near us and it felt as the river was only for us. Thank you for a great day. The kids had an great time!

Just like to say a huge thanks to Deon for a great day out on the river with my family. Awesome guide who knows the river like the back of his hand. Showed us the best fishing spots that were totally inaccessible by any other means than on his raft. Looked after our boys 5 and 10 while my wife and I were fishing. Caught some bloody awesome trout. Can’t recommend this trip more highly. Had a great bbq at the end on the deck with him at the end of the day . Did not want to leave. If you get the opportunity do it .

Deon was perfect in every way. He answered all my initial emails quickly. He was on time picking us up near our ship. He provided a great day of fly fishing on the beautiful Mohkaka river. He is kind, patient and knows what he’s doing. His wife Jo is so sweet and took great care of getting us to the river and providing plenty of lunch. My husband and I highly recommend this couple for a memorable day on the river.

We had such a fun afternoon rafting with Deon and Lance on Boxing Day. From the minute our family of 5 arrived we were were well looked after and Deon took extra time to make sure that we had all the right gear and were comfortable. My kids ( 2 x 10 years old and 1 x 7 year old) like a bit of adventure and action and Deon catered for this so well! They were provided with many safe opportunities to jump into the river to swim alongside the raft (which they loved doing) and my daughter loved having a go at floating down the rapids. The Mohaka river is simply stunning and this was a wonderful way to see it. Thank you so much Deon, Jo and kids. This was a wonderful way to end our camping trip and your hospitality added a special touch to a fun and relaxing afternoon of rafting. It was lovely meeting you all. We're going to book another trip for Evan (fishing rafting this time) in a few months for his birthday (you might need to get ear plugs Deon haha) as he loves fishing.

Had an amazing afternoon with Deon who was a brilliant guide/host to our group - our family of four and another family of four. He was good fun but took safety very seriously. He was brilliant with the kids (and the adults) and was especially patient and understanding of our son with autism. We had such a fantastic time - the rafting was great and the scenery amazing. Plenty of spots to jump in for a swim and lots of bursts of rapids to bump through. Deon and his wife were very friendly and we felt like family guests eating the bbq after the rafting. For a fun few hours on the river I can totally recommend raftfish - highlight of the trip so far.
