Full-Day Piha and Waitakere Ecotour from Auckland
From USD 67.62
Escape the concrete jungle of Auckland for a natural adventure along the North Island’s west coast during this 6-hour trip to Piha and Waitakere. Explore this eco-region’s wealth of rugged sea cliffs, black-sand beaches, towering ‘Kauri’ trees and gushing waterfalls, learning about local Maori traditions and native wildlife along the way.
What to Expect
You’ll make your first stop of the day at the Arataki Visitor Centre, where you can gaze out at the panoramic vistas of Auckland and its two harbors. This cultural center also offers unique insight into Maori culture thanks to a variety of Maori carvings on display. You can also learn more about local wildlife in the area, including the ‘weta’ insect and the sky-high ‘Kauri’ trees.
Continue deeper into this wilderness area by heading to the nearby Piha region. You’ll take a short walk to visit a picturesque cascade of waterfalls, and search for native creatures such as the long fin eels and the ‘Keruru’ bird. Make your last activity stop of the morning at one of Piha’s black-sand beaches, a site where you can explore the famous Lion Rock, take a quick dip, or simply sit back and watch the pounding surf.

Excellent tour for a half day after jet leg

We had Mark as a guide and he is great fellow, knows a lot about the track and nature. Even if we weren't full recovered after 28h flight, the group could set the pace of the tour. Recommend!
