Piha and Karekare Rainforest Wine Tour from Auckland
From USD 181.50
Overview
The wine regions around Auckland are some the best on the North Island, benefitting from the fertile volcanic lands of the Waitakere Ranges. On this tour, enjoy three guided wine tasting experiences at wineries in the Henderson Valley, Ararimu Valley, and Kumeu wine regions. In addition, explore the stunning natural scenery of west Auckland, with stops at the black sand beach of Piha, the Karekare Waterfalls, and the Arataki Visitor Centre.
What to Expect
After pickup from your Auckland hotel, leave the city and head south along the West Coast in an air-conditioned minivan. The first stop of the day is Babich Wines, a family-run winery in the Henderson Valley, where you can sample wines grown in the valley, as well as from the Babich vineyards of Hawkes Bay and Marlborough.
Next, visit the Arataki Visitor Centre in the Waitakere Ranges Regional Park, where you can learn more about the region’s geology, wildlife, and Maori heritage. Continue to Piha Beach and Karekare beach, both known for their black volcanic sands, and take a short hike to see the beautiful Karekare Waterfalls.
After lunch at a local café, spend the afternoon wine tasting, with visits to West Brook Wine in the Ararimu Valley and Kumeu River Wines along the Kumeu Wine Trail, which is famous for its chardonnay.
Finally, return to Auckland, where your tour ends with drop-off at your hotel.

I agree with the comment above regarding the ocean temperature. There were folks in the water at the waterfall however when we were there in October. So a brief dip might be possible if you allow time for it.

No response from John so no tour for a solo traveler. No worries, I'm spending 3 weeks in NZ - that I'm not welcome on John's tours won't ruin my trip!
