About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- 125LarryS1250 contributionsPleasant afternoon on the water!Very pleasant ride on smooth water with a bit of description of features we passed by. Boat not full so viewing was easy. Nice A/C inside. An OK ride on an OK river from Perth Quay to Fremantle & return. The phenomenon is keeping Swan River as part of the community—too shallow for industrial use. Lots of marinas & yacht clubs, wind surfers, small boats. Very pleasant afternoon on the water!Written 16 January 2025
- P700ULnicolej0 contributionsDo it, you won’t regret it!This is our second time now doing this cruise and we honestly can’t fault them. First time was for my son’s 21st and we found it super relaxing and educational. The most recent time was for my Dads final wish and to celebrate his birthday, he was in a wheelchair and the crew was amazing, even though this was a busy trip the crew was always super helpful.Written 13 January 2025
- nzers0 contributionsGreat views. Useless as a “Tour”If this was simply a ferry transfer from Perth city to Fremantle then I would rate it 5*. However it is sold as a “tour” and as such it is useless. The boat is mostly enclosed and caters for people purchasing their lunch package. We did not include lunch and wanted to sit outside to enjoy the views. There are clearly insufficient seats nor space to accommodate all passengers making it very uncomfortable. The commentary provided was inaudible and no written version available which was the most disappointing aspect. Therefore it was simply an expensive ferry ride. Poor form from Captain Cook cruises. They should do better.Written 12 January 2025
- Road295188637920 contributionsAmazing!!! Highly recommendA huge thank you to All the amazing staff for such a wonderful experience. The views, service and food were outstanding. We had the most enjoyable day and will definitely be booking another one. Thank you so much.Written 6 January 2025
- dianel9230 contributionsA lovely giftThis was a thank you for two friends, for the support they gave me when I had breast cancer. I added the option to have the cheese platter. I was pleasantly surprised it came out on a plate and not the pre packaged I expected. We sat out side so could not hear the cometary. but that is to be expected. We had a great time. I would highly recommend the trip if you have visitors and want to show off Perth.Written 4 January 2025
- RichardT5530 contributionsImprovements requiredThis review relates to the New Years Dinner cruise. Firstly the positives…..booking process was efficient and we were advised we would be seated in a semi outdoor area…no problem. Fireworks were excellent and food was acceptable. The negatives…. Boarding was slow, as the person boarding us had a list of boarders and the seating map, but it would have saved a lot of time if an alphabetical list of guests was available with the table numbers cross referenced, or even better…a simple cross reference of customer bar code to table number. The app on each table recommended for ordering drinks simlply did not work, causing frustration amongst the majority of guests, and the need to go to the bar to order. Not a real problem, except we were told we needed to use the App to avoid queues at the bar. The credit card payment system at the bar was unreliable. Fortunately I had cash but other guests were not so fortunate. There was no count down or commentary for midnight, which was very poor for New Years Eve. Fortunately guests improvised themselves. Simple improvements could make this a very memorable evening (for the right reasons)Written 1 January 2025
- jhgolden08070 contributionsSunny day on the SwanNice cruise with the right amount of commentary. There were some parties that were drinking a bit and loud, so it could be hard to hear at times, but overall nice experience.Written 28 December 2024

- susanclogsdon0 contributionsFremantle to Perth round tripWe were looking forward to learning about what we were seeing between Fremantle & Perth. The trip up the river toward Perth was pleasant. However, the commentary was difficult to hear. On the return to Fremantle, 3 Holland America Line excursions joined us & it got very noisy! (We are on the same ship!)Written 9 December 2024
- 951teresaw0 contributionsBirthday Wine TourWe enjoyed our Swan Valley Wine Tour very much, great having an all girl crew with amazing skipper Amy. Lauren & Ariana (forgive my spelling) sung fantastically, great job girls. We will be telling our friends and family about your cruise. My husband loved you guys singing happy birthday to him, Thank you 🥰❤️Written 28 November 2024
- Nicole S0 contributionsRiver cruiseThe staff were lovely and I thoroughly enjoyed the commentary. We were a couple minutes late as we couldn’t find a car park. Would recommend people leave more time as it’s a short walk from parking to the jetty.Written 26 November 2024
- MarkE200 contributionsCairns to Perth via Outback Way 2024The 4 of us booked the Swan River Cruise and Rottnest Island Ferry and Bus Tour to be taken on consecutive days. We got the best weather for both days. The river cruise also offers a lunch cruise. We went from Fremantle to Perth and return. It winds up the river under bridges, past interesting sites, fabulous homes and the old Swan Brewery before stopping at the ferry terminal in Perth CBD. The captain gives a running commentary all the way there and back. You can get refreshments on board. We were lucky to have dolphins follow us for a short time. Well worth doing.Written 24 November 2024
- 597keithl0 contributionsGreat addition to our itinerary.Very worthwhile cruise back into Perth from Freemantle. Whilst staying in Perth we took an early morning train ride out to charming Freemantle to visit the markets and nearby beach. This cruise completed the journey. Great views, helpful staff with informative commentary.Written 24 November 2024

We really enjoyed the cruise up and down the Swan, with good food, drink and entertainment. The crew were great, fun, helpful and informative. I think it was let down by the onshore wine tour portion that was conducted by another provider, as it was lacking in commentary and felt rushed. The locations visited were very busy and touristy and the male guide was rude and standoffish.

Lovely cruise up the Swan River to Guilford. The boat was clean, staff were friendly and attentive, however the boat was extremely packed and definitely felt crowded being that you are on their for a total of 5 years. Morning and afternoon tea were supplied. Out lunch at Sandalford was good, service was quick and food was fine, although menu was very limited. We visited another winery and chocolate factory on the bus tour after lunch. The return trip cruise saw an open wine bar for 2 hours and entertainment by the female crew. A pleasant day on the Swan

An extremely relaxing way to pass the day with a variety of experiences through the historic Swan Valley with good commentary and a great play list from our driver and guide Kim to set the mood. Visits to the two wineries and the chocolate factory were nicely spaced with plenty to sample, cheese platter and chocolates. Upon boarding the boat for the cruise home we were greeted with a delicious array of fruit and cake, accompanied by tea and coffee. Shortly after, the bar was opened and drinks flowed for the duration of the return cruise. We had some great entertainment from the crew on the way back and stunning to enter Elizabeth Quay with the city skyline as a backdrop. This outing was very manageable for anyone with mobility.
Issues. Had a great day and would thoroughly recommend.

Fantastic experience, customer service and flexibility. The cruise from Perth to Swan Valley was the perfect start to a great day. Knowledgeable captain sharing information about the sights on the way and efficient and knowledgeable staff sharing wine tasting tips and techniques along with generous wine samples and a cheese board to get us started!
Long table lunch with adult beverage included was then provided after a very short drive from the jetty to the Homestead Brewery at Mandoon Estate.
After lunch we split into two groups. Those returning by bus and those returning on a later cruise. Despite having actually booked the cruise return we were graciously allowed to stay with the bus and visit additional wineries and a brewery. This made our day!
Highly recommended tour but ensure you start out hungry! You WILL be satiated...

Hi W3690RQpaulg,
Thank you for taking the time to write such a nice and detailed review!
We are glad you enjoyed the commentary together with the food and drinks on board. I absolutely agree to start the day hungry, because you will most certainly be full of nice food and great wine at the end of the day!
Kind Regards,

Our original trip( gourmet wine cruise) was sadly cancelled by the cruise company and we were offered a refund or an alternative cruise. We opted for the alternative cruise which was running on the same day as our cancelled trip.
Good points..
Crew were entertaining and very helpful.
Wine tasting on board was nice with cheese and biscuits
Wine tasting at winery well organised and good
Chocolate stop was ok
Trip back on river was very pleasant with free flow wine
Not so good points…
Drinking water on boat was vile -sorry to be brutal but chemical city and undrinkable with no option to buy bottled water..
Lunch was pre ordered and very basic menu ( burgers salad pizza). Sadly several lunches were served 25 mins after everyone else..
Mini bus was mini! If you’ve got a bit of a girth ( I have!) it was quite tight to pass up and down the aisle.
Bus driver was very good though and she drove us very nicely.
All in all the day was ok but quite expensive for a river trip with burger and chips or pizza. I think the gourmet meal at sandlefords winery would have been much better but we didn’t get that opportunity.

Thanks so much for providing us with detailed feedback on your recent tour with us.
Gladly we see that you found lots of good points from your day out, but we are sorry to hear about the taste of the water on the boat. We will follow this up immediately.
We are also sorry with the delay in your lunch, that'd not good at all, and must have been a little frustrating for you.
Hopefully we get the opportunity to maybe welcome you back another time in the future, for ideally an experience at Sandalford.
Kind regards,
Kat from Captain Cook Cruises

Small bus through Gilford to Swan Valley by a very informative driver named Keith. Had a fabulous day with lunch, cheese, chocolates, afternoon tea & drinks along the Swan River on the way back to Perth. Staff on board the vessel were entertaining & just fabulous, they made a verry happy, joyous atmosphere.

I booked this cruise for a group of 12 lively ladies to celebrate my milestone birthday. From booking the cruise to boarding the boat, everything was really easy and communication great. The cruise is excellent value, considering all the inclusions you get. The cakes on arrival were fabulous, followed by generous cheese boards and then onto wine tasting.
The boat couldn’t sail all the way up to Guildford as planned due to a high tide, however this was no problem and we were kept informed along the way. We sailed to Marylands instead and a bus then took us up the Swan Valley. Fabulous lunch at the Mandoon Estate ( yet more food), then onto the always wonderful Lancaster Winery. Lots of wine tasting! And yet more cheese boards. Then onto the Margaret River Chocolate Factory- chocolate platters… we are very full up now! Back on the boat for the bar opening, more cake and some fantastic entertainment with Lauren singing. The boat had a real party mode on the way back with many groups having celebrations and it was so much fun.
Thank you to all the crew on the boat who worked so hard, especially Lauren ( fabulous voice too) and the lovely Emilie from Belgium. And thanks Kim, our tour guide who played some cracking 80’s tunes on our minibus.
I’d highly recommend this cruise, especially if you are celebrating something, I had a fantastic day!

Hi Salfordred_9,
Its always our pleasure to welcome groups on board our tours, and the team at Lancaster Wines really do a magnificent cheese board and tastings.
My personal favorite is the chocolate samples at the Margaret River Chocolate Factory - delicious!
We appreciate all your positive feedback and will let the team at Mandoon Estate know, as well as our excellent crew, to keep up the good work.
Kind regards,
Travis

Great day. Mixture of boat and bus depending on the tides. Food and wines galore. The commentary going there was mixed. Lots of people talking while the captain was talking. Maybe give an option for those who want to listen….give headsets to listen and to also drown out the idle chatter.
Choice of wineries were nice but I didn’t find a wine I could rave about.
Meet some lovely people.
The staff singing on the way back was not my cup of tea.
Good day though. More positives than negatives.

What a great day in the Swan River, wine, cheese, tastings and death by chocolate to finish off with. Very generous with the tastings on board, and unlimited wine on the way back - lots of people falling asleep though! The lunch at Homestead was superb as well. Never had chocolate liqueur either which was a novel experience. All in all a great day out.

Good afternoon Gill N,
Thank you for your lovely review! It sounds like you had a splendid day up at the Swan Valley and on our Taste of the Swan Valley - one of my favorite cruises and tours we operate! The free chocolate at the chocolate factory accompanied with the liqueur hits the spot.
We hope you'll cruise with us again soon!

We went to Perth for a two-week holiday in June and booked this cruise several weeks ahead of our departure. While we were in Perth, the company rang to advise that the date we had booked had been cancelled, so we changed to the following day. Then they rang to advise that this cruise had also been cancelled, so we claimed a refund.
This was very disappointing because we only had limited options and it was something we were looking forward to as part of our Perth visit.
So, I have no idea what the cruise was like! And pretty poor that such a renowned cruise company can't manage their bookings.

Good afternoon,
Thank you so much for providing feedback and please accept our sincere apologies for both cruise cancellations, we are very sorry for this disappointing outcome.
Somtimes we do need to cancel for operational reasons but we agree, that cancelling once and then again for the next day is certainly not ideal, and a situation that we avoid as much as we can. This is a rare occurrence, fortunately.
Hopefully we will have the opportunity to welcome you back on board with us another time in the future.
Kind regards,
Kat
