  • The Perth Mint is located at 310 Hay Street (cnr Hill Street) in East Perth, a short walk from Perth's city centre and many leading hotels and accommodation houses. You can use the free Central Area Transit (CAT) bus service to visit the Mint. Chose the Red CAT bus (click here for route map) and depart at The Perth Mint stop (Number R06)
  • Open 7 days from 9.00am to 5.00pm
  • Public holidays from 9.00am to 5.00pm
  • New Year's Day, Good Friday, Anzac Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
  • An exhibition guide brochure is available in 8 languages (Chinese, English, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese and Korean)
  • Wheelchair access and special restroom facilities. A wheelchair is available for loan, if required.

The Perth Mint is Australia's official bullion mint. It produces gold, silver and platinum. It was established in 1899 to make sovereigns and half-sovereigns from Western Australian gold. These coins were distributed throughout the British Empire, most are still in ciculation.

The building like so many of that era is very impressive. The history was interesting and the artefacts inside fascinating. The pouring we have seen at another location so that was nothing new. There is then lots to spend you money on, if that's your want in the shop.

You really cannot visit Perth without visiting the Mint. Apart from the fact that the building is so beautiful, take the tour and be entertained and amazed, watching a gold bar being cast. You can also try to lift one of the gold bars too (it looks so easy but is so very heavy)
