      Beautiful
A great little island, famous of course for its lovely quokkas, they really are easy to find, especially if you’re near the food outlets. The trip from Fremantle was great, smooth trip and took about 30 minutes. We also did the bus tour, the signage to the bus meeting point wasn’t the easiest to find but we enjoyed the whole experience.

      Great
Very well organised. Island is fabulous. Quakka’s are definitely a lot different in person to the photos you’ll see online.

Worst bicycle I have ever ridden
Worst bicycle I have ever ridden… gears not functioning, unsafe brakes. I had to wait to swap it when another ferry arrived. Next bike was a little better but no seat slant adjustment. Very uncomfortable to ride.

      Ferry trip was generally okay
Quokkas and the beautiful nature reserves are the reason to plan a visit to this island. While the cost to reach there is on the high side (i.e. close to 100AUD for a 2-way ferry ticket, excl. any rental of facilities on the island such as bike), it is still worth a visit if you have the time and loves the sea and sun!

      Rottnest Island
The island is cute and quaint, typical tourist island. If you are not going to bike or surf, there isn’t much to do. The Rottnest Express has only 2 trips out and 2 trips back which makes for a very long day on an island without much to do. The ferry company provides a buffet of snack sandwiches etc on both legs of the trip which was nice. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would give it a 4.

      Excellent service and facilities
Excellent tour and experience. I booked the ferry from Perth city, with bus pick-up. The bus pick-up was on-time, and straight onto the ferry. There was a guided commentary during the journey down to Fremantle, with some great insight into the area. The ferry was comfortable and felt safe. On arrival at Rottnest Island wadjemup, I had time before the bus tour. The bus tour also departed on time, and the tour guide was expert and very informative, including adding some humour. They were happy to try to answer questions at any point. My only feedback would be to tone down the gendered greetings (ladies and gentlemen), and to be a little more sensitive and informative about the Aboriginal history. All facilities were clean and comfortable, and the ferry home departed on time. There is no bus drop-off after getting back into Perth, which was clearly communicated to passengers.

      Dismissive company
Despite both my brother-in-law, who has Down syndrome, and me being injured and covered in blood after an accident on the island, the ferry company neglected to provide adequate assistance upon our departure. Even worse, they reached out to dispute our negative review on TripAdvisor after ignoring our initial email feedback. Their social media agent even laughed at the fact that my partner and I left reviews, saying, 'One wasn't enough? Hahaha. ----- What a surreal and unsettling experience I had with this ferry company – it felt like something straight out of Black Mirror. Despite providing feedback on the lack of empathy service we received, we received no response to our email. However, the moment we posted on TripAdvisor, things changed drastically. When both my brother-in-law, who has Down syndrome, and I experienced an accident on the island, leaving me with 8 stitches, 4 broken teeth, and my brother-in-law having to amputate a piece of his finger, we were shocked to find that no one from the ferry crew assisted us in leaving the ferry. Despite the nurses calling ahead to inform them of our injuries, we received minimal help. It's important to note that when the company contacted us afterward, they didn't want to speak to me about the accident or who was involved – they wanted to speak to my partner, who wrote the review. It was infuriating when the representative claimed our situation wasn't an emergency, suggesting we should have waited for the 500 passengers to leave first. I didn't cry from the accident, but I cried from the lack of empathy and self-absorption of people and crew. She even suggested it wasn't an emergency otherwise we would have been airlifted or taken a private boat. She even said how horrible the passengers were, not taking accountability for the crew, and also mentioned that the nurses never let them know we were coming, which was not true, because, my partner and his two other brothers, and I heard them speaking to the crew over the phone. And when I said that, the representative said, "Are you calling me a liar?" and I said I didn't lose my memory, and I was there; she wasn't. Is this really the phone call you want to get after a traumatic accident? Choose your people better. A simple apology and acknowledgment of their lapse in humanity would have sufficed, along with the implementation of procedures to prevent such incidents in the future. Overall, the lack of empathy and accountability displayed by the ferry company is deeply concerning. Potential passengers should be aware of the company's dismissive attitude towards customer concerns. ----- this was my original review where I even gave them two stars: "I am extremely disappointed with the service we received. After a bike accident on the island, I had to use a wheelchair to reach the ferry. Unfortunately, the crew was not accommodating. Even upon departure, they failed to ensure we were taken care of. Despite being in urgent need, I had to struggle to disembark and get to the ER, covered in blood along with my brother-in-law. People were running past us, yet the crew didn't prioritize our safety or create space for us to exit promptly. The lack of humanity from the crew was appalling. I submitted feedback before posting here, but as of today, there has been no response.

      Great destination.
The island itself is well worth the trip. We left from the Barrack St jetty because we specifically wanted to hear the commentary about the Swan River. Unfortunately the sound quality of the speakers was so bad that I, even as an English speaker could only pick up about every 10th word. Maybe the ferry company could invest in headphones like they have in museums where the commentary could be also offered in different languages. However, the staff on the ferry were friendly, helpful and knowledgable. The bikes could do with a good audit and service. I had to return my first bike as the seat kept on swivelling and then the bike I ended up with only had 2 gears out of 3 which meant I had to get off and walk my bike up several hills. The food at the Rottnest Pub was really good and overall I would recommend this experience.

      Cycling Rottnest
Well organised regarding ferry and bike hire. Dome cafe a bonus. Great general store with a surprisingly good selection of wine (and food). Major deficit is lack of clear direction signage when cycling. Maps were good but no signs on roads to link with these. Lots of hills if cycling, hard wok for oldies like us.

Cold, wet but OMG, the Quokkas!!
So, the day we'd booked to visit Rottnest island was cold, wet & grey. It rained almost non stop but - we were told - this was good because the quokkas came out more when it was wet. Despite the weather, it's a cute little island with a lovely beach, a lighthouse & the usual shops & places to buy a plastic raincoat (they made a fortune on the day we went!) We did a bus tour of the island & were lucky enough to spot lots of wildlife (fur seals, ospreys, humpback whales, king skink lizards & of course, the wonderful quokkas - which, let's face it, is why most people come here. There's a great little shop selling hot pasties & cakes (not too much for vegans but I'm used to that) & the sun shone for a little while, making everything seem so much better.

      Great trip
Everything as stated on ticket. Get your ticket at the booth before you get in line for the ferry. It is about 1 block before the entrance for ferry. Would have liked to have electric bikes. Lots of hills on island. We did see one quokka ( as they are nocturnal).

Amazing to see a sleepy quokka
Went with my elderly husband on a Sunday with Viator Tour. There was a cruise on the Swan River, a bus tour round Rottnest Island with commentary by the driver cum guide. Then we were treated to lunch on Frankies. A main, drinks and dessert. I had the salad and my husband had the squid and chips. For dessert we had lemon tart and chocolate brownies. Brownies was wonderful but the tart wasa bit too sour for us. We had fanta orange juice to wash the food down. It was a delightful lunch. Saw a sleepy quokka and took a photo of it. Sat by the sea-side and it was a pleasant day out. Left the island at 5pm. It was a lovely outing.

      Disappointed
Have been trying to get in touch with you. The trip over to Rottnest Island no trouble. When we arrive we were told our bus would leave at 11.20 so we lined up for 30 minutes to be told no we were on the late bus and on the 4,30 return ferry. As we had a disable man with us who couldn’t stay out that long. We had to return to Fremantle on the 11.45 ferry. So we saw nothing. Sent you a message from ferry but have heard nothing. Please get in touch. Thanking you Jeanette Williams

      Daytrip to Rottnest.
Booked the combined ferry and bus ride around Rottnest. Was a smooth operation between the ferry and bus and the guides provided an interesting history of Perth, the Swan River, Freemantle and Rottnest Island over the course of the day. Would have been nice to be able to stop and take some photos at some of the locations during the bus tour, given that there was about 2+ hours available at the conclusion before the ferry departed. In the same light though, we had a chance to spend some time getting Quokka photos and do some snorkeling at Pinky Beach. Definitely recommended.

We really enjoyed our experience with Rottnest Express. The price included a return ferry crossing, the high-speed circumnavigation of the island with the boat stopping off at bays and coves around the island. The guide was very knowledgeable about the wildlife and we were lucky enough to see fur seals, two pods of dolphins and various seabirds including a juvenile osprey perched on the rocks. The high speed boat trip took 90 minutes. Lunch at Frankie’s on Rotto was included. The wood-fired sourdough pizzas were excellent (very large so my husband and I ended up sharing one) and there was a choice of main courses. A glass of wine, beer or soft drink was also included. A really excellent day out - thanks Rottnest Express!

Enjoyed a fantastic Adventure tour with Des and Ollie, the power of the 900hp boat gets you in and out the various bays in breathtaking speed. Great to see the island from the ocean, get up close to the seal colonies and smash through the swell on the Western side of the island. Des was very entertaining and informative, and Ollies final dash to chase the Ferry into Thomson’s was a huge thrill.

We went on the Eco adventure tour and it was amazing! The the trip out to the humpback highway was very enjoyable with Jodi making it a lot of fun to ride through the swell. Sophie provided excellent commentary with a jovial take on everything that kept everyone in a good mood even whales were being elusive and did her best to maximise the number of whales we saw. Saw about 8 whales one was less than 10m away from boat. Would recommend for both the thrill seeker and marine enthusiast.

This adventure boat was a 10/10 experience, Jodi was incredible at spotting wildlife and navigating the boat which was so thrilling and scenic doing a full loop of Rottnest Island and Nadine was an amazing tour guide who offered us so much information and continuously did her most to make sure everybody was comfortable and enjoying the ride! We spotted bottlenose dolphins, NZ fur seals, Ospreys and Australian Seals. This was totally incredible and I couldn’t recommend it enough!

I am traveling on my own with only a day on the island and thought this tour would be great to get an overview of the island, staff were pleasant and well organised. Good waterproof covers are provided.
    However, beware..
You have to leave your backpack on land, this makes it difficult if you have an enthusiast camera and different lenses.
"Weather Permitting" they still go out, even if they can only do a third of the island due to unfavourable wind as happened to me. 28th Oct 2022
They go looking for whales although they know there is little chance of seeing them. (This gives you a fast "exciting" ride to make up for it, didn't do it for me)
They only tell you they are looking for whales once you are on the boat, wrong lens for this for me, but we never saw any, so it didn't matter.
So in fact I wasted 90mins, more if you count waiting to board and we didn't see the whole island, we didn't see seals, whales or dolphins. We did see a sea eagle nest if you had binoculars you might have seen the bird.
For me it wasted my day, I would have been much better getting the "on and off bus" that circumnavigates the island and chatting to the volunteers on the island.

I realise times are tough and not going out would be a loss of income, but I might have decided not to go at (although I had already paid) rather than wasting my time. It had so much potential, but over promised and underdelivered.

Hi, Firstly, we are sorry to see that you felt disappointed with your experience with us and would like to do what we can to rectify this. With that being said, our adventure boat tour is extremely weather dependent and our skipper will always do their best to make this work on the day so that the tour is as exciting and comfortable as possible. Unfortunately, sometimes this means that we have to alter the preferred course to avoid any damaging winds at the western end of the island. As for whales, as they are wild animals it is never guaranteed on our tours that you will see one, which is why we choose not to advertise this fact - however we are disappointed to hear that you were upset with the amount of wildlife you did see. We would be happy to offer you a discount on a future trip to the island to make up for this less that optimal experience. If you send us an email to marketing@rottnestexpress.com.au we would be happy to help arrange this. Once again, we apologise for any disappointment caused from this experience. Kind regards, The Rottnest Express Sales Team

Our trip took us to the basin to see some crayfish that people had caught on a boat. Then we were lucky enough to see a Bronze Whaler Shark, everyone was so excited. Next stop off to see the NZ seals at the west end. Visited fish hook bay to see beautiful clear water and limestone cliffs. Saw the Australian Fur Seals and Osprey nests. We so enjoyed the ride Damo our skipper went fast and impressed us all with his turns to. Des our tour guide was full of information we all really thought he was amazing. A very good safety briefing by the guys at the start. Fabulous Fun afternoon thank you Des and Damo we so loved iit so much. Jill and Jenna ❤️ my Rotto

We had a fabulous time onboard the adventure tour with our skipper Ollie and tour guide Sophie. We were informed it was the first tour of the season and my god it did not disappoint! We were incredibly lucky to witness a mother humpback whale and it’s calf of whom came up within 5m of the boat.
The tour itself is insanely exhilarating for all thrill seekers out there - would recommend for all the family!

We went on the adventure tour and LOVED it. Our skipper and guide was Guy, and his knowledge and experience made the trip so enjoyable! Everyone on board had a good time-from kids to teens to older adults-it really had something for everyone. I have been to Rottnest many, many times and even I learned a few things and saw the island from a new perspective!

It is one of our most popular offerings over the Summer period, and certainly great fun for the whole family! I will pass on your compliments to Guy. The Adventure Tour is his favourite to host, so he will be thrilled to know how much you enjoyed it and that he was able to provide you with a memorable experience. Thank you for travelling with Rottnest Express, and we look forward to welcoming you back for another adventure soon. Kind Regards, Lydia

The speed boat soooo fun! One of the best bits was when we were going really fast over the big waves. We got to see humpback whales breaching, dolphins and seals - awesome trip with great hosts!!

I found the ferry was very efficient and ran to time, the commentary was very good and informative. The ferry was clean and spacious.
The adventure boot was really good fun and the sights that we saw were amazing, the captain of the boat provided good views of the sea animals and the tour guide was excellent, she was very knowledgeable and friendly.
We had a really good day out on the Island.
