About
Join us on a journey that began thousands of years ago through what is today known as the Middle Passage. We pass through the whirlpools and eddies between Jooloom and Jayirri and allow you to experience the power of some of the World’s biggest tidal waters and learn how these massive tidal currents were used by the Jawi people to hunt, fish and trade.
Rosanna Angus is a Jawi woman whose family lived on Sunday Island, she shares stories of life on the island before the mission closed in 1962. Discover who started the Mission and why Sunday Island was chosen as the site. Learn about life at the Mission and why the culture is still strong.
This unique piece of Australia’s history has remained hidden from many for too long. The collective stories of those who grew up at the mission have been collected and recorded.
We look forward to sharing these stories with you on

About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Michael P0 contributionsGreat tour option for the wet seasonI was in Broome in the wet season so unable to go on a cruise boat to see the Horizontal Falls as I wanted to. I saw this scenic flight option was available so book this instead. The flight itself was beautiful. I didn’t realise how scenic and pretty the Falls and the surrounding areas were going to be. Lots of photos were taken. Initially, I didn’t have any interest in the pearl farm stop, as I don’t like those high-pressure sales installed into tours. However, this was nothing like that at all. The staff there were very inviting, friendly and very enthusiastic about what they do. I learnt a lot in a very short period of time including some history about broom that was really interesting. Despite living in Australia, my whole life, I did not know a lot of things that I learnt at this place. Finally the air Kimberley staff and pilots were very welcoming and very lovely genuine people . Overall a nicely paced day.Written 29 December 2024
- Stuart P0 contributionsWonderful flight to Horizontal Falls and Cygnet Bay Pearl FarmWe really wanted to see the Horizontal Falls and sightsee above Broome. We were wait listed to fly knowing that we needed 4 people to book. As our leaving date got closer the staff at Air Kimberly and the Cable Beach Club Resort and Spa pulled out all the stops to accomodate just us as a couple so that we could still go. We were picked up by Jensen and taken to the airport where we met our amazing pilot and host for the day Lachlan. He was an excellent pilot and gave us a real insight into the beauty of the area, his love of flying here, and what to expect next. The falls were amazing and along with the geology and seascape made the flight highly worthwhile. The trip to the Cygnet Bay pearl farm was fascinating as we got to see pearls being removed and new ones seeded. On our boat trip we saw lots of birds and sea life as well as experiencing the powerful tides and the whirlpools. Our boat captain also explained to us his families long connection to the region and his love of the area. A real highlight is landing and taking off from the airstrip at Cygnet bayWritten 29 November 2024
- mandycW9640XF0 contributionsBeyond ExpectationExceptional! This is an absolute once in a lifetime bucket list experience. From the booking process right through to the end of the tour, every experience was exceptional. Our incredible pilot, Lachlan went above and beyond every step of the way. His knowledge and sense of humour added so much value to the tour. The ground staff were wonderful and Cygnet Bay was very interesting. Lunch was delicious and our dietary needs were well catered for. The swim in the pool was perfect given the heat of the day. The views from the air are simply breathtaking. A experience that my whole family will never forget - thank you! Without a doubt, I would recommend doing this tour!Written 11 November 2024

- 677elsker0 contributionsGreat scenic flightFantastic flight with Mia, our very friendly and skilled pilot. She flew us over Smirnoff beach as it was impossible to reach this beach over land. She also gave a lot of information about all the interesting spots on the coastline. Thanks Mia for giving my father a great tour 82,5 years after he made the first landing of his life on March 3rd, 1942 in Broome.Written 31 October 2024
- petercK5910OL0 contributionsHorizontal Falls and Cygnet BayWe did an amazing trip up to the horizontal falls, then Cygnet bay for lunch and the pearl farm tour. Was a great day and Darcy the pilot was informative and kept us entertained for the day. Well recommended.Written 4 October 2024
- AdventureJS46190 contributionsIncredible day and amazing serviceTrip of a LIFETIME!! Our pilot Renz was exceptional, very knowledgeable (thanks for the excellent commentary throughout the flight!) and went above and beyond to ensure we had the best day. The take offs and landings were very smooth and Renz made us feel very comfortable. The scenery was incredible, from Dampier peninsula to the rugged terrain of the kimboltons and then the turquoise-like water of the King Sound and surroundings, everything was great. The nice touch of the photos and drinks were the cherry on top after an amazing day! Highly recommend Air Kimberley if you want a taste of the Kimberley and for providing such a wonderful tour!Written 1 October 2024
- MikeC73030 contributionsAn excellent adventureThis was so much fun, and took in loads seriously amazing scenery. Our pilot (thanks again, Freddie) was efficient, helpful, and regaled us with useful information along the way. He took us around the Horizontal Falls several times to ensure we all got the perfect view. The visit to the Hatchery was absolutely fascinating; our local guide was knowledgeable & gregarious; she introduced us to local marine wildlife & a potted history of the local peoples & this business especially. Don’t forget to have a swim in the warm sea. The flight back along the beach was also beautiful. The plane is small, & close on a hot day, but this is part of the experience.Written 30 September 2024
- emilymF1333GF0 contributionsStunning views, friendly staff, unique experience all round! We had an AWESOME time on this tour! Our pilot, Lachlan, was friendly and knowledgeable. The falls and the coastline were stunning. The hatchery tour - especially saying hi to Myrtle the turtle - was lovely. After having tours cancelled twice (by other companies) we were so happy to have the helpful staff book us onto this one. Ash was great. Being able to have our 2 doggos petsat at the office whilst we did the tour made things soooo much easier, too. Thanks to the office staff on 30 September for keeping an eye on them! Highly recommend this to anyone, especially those with furbabies! 💗Written 30 September 2024
- Lottiehelen0 contributionsPut it on your bucket listVery professional, friendly people. Great to be able to fly at such a low altitude and see the country. Having the opportunity to do a walking tour at the bungles made the day. Thanks to the team and our pilot HughWritten 28 September 2024
- annavL7120WB0 contributionsWow, what an experience! Our trip was exceptional. The region is truely the “wild west” of Australia. You experience the vastness and ruggedness of the landscape and you get an idea of what it requires to live in this beautiful but harsh environment. Our Pilot, Lachlan, was very knowledgable and went out of his way to ensure we all had an enjoyable experience.Written 27 September 2024
- lordy390 contributionsAmazing day outWe had an excellent full day trip with another couple. Our pilot Daniel was very professional in his commentary, but also very friendly & so easy to get along with. Excellent service from Air Kimberley, right from the time they picked us at our accommodation, till the moment we were dropped back. Don’t leave Broome without such an experience in the air & on the ground.Written 25 September 2024
- jwroblewsk0 contributionsGreat day, put the area in perspective. What a great day, two older couples getting a broader view of the Kimberley. We had driven the area, been around by boat, and this tour just pulled the whole perspective together for us. We had Mia (not Emerly) and she was both a great host and pilot. Most importantly she was professional and very safety conscious. She also led us around the area including at the Pearl Farm, can’t speak highly enough. All in all it was just a great day, that put it in perspective for us.Written 15 September 2024
- 625elenef0 contributionsExperiencing The Bungle Bungles From The Air And Ground Is A Must. This Is The Tour For That. What an amazing tour, from pick up to drop off. The beauty of this tour is that you get o see the Bungle Bungles from above and the ground. Our flight was smooth all the way with Tommy our pilot providing informative commentary along the way. Amazing scenery all the way there and back. The fly over the Bungle Bungles was awe inspiring. Our guide on the ground Bec (Kingfisher tours) was amazing. Her first hand experience and detailed knowledge of the area and the life of the first nations peoples ( from birth to death) was extremely interesting. So much so that some random person tried to latch on to our tour. Bec's stories were equally intriguing and humorus. The walk into Cathedral Gorge was not difficult. May was a good time to go. We were pleased to be in a small group (4 of us) as Bec was able to field our questions and show us things off the beaten track as we made our way to Cathedral Gorge. If you are nervous (as I was) of flying in a light plane all I can see is don't be. Our flight was very smooth and we were in great hands with or experienced pilot. So glad we did this. The only hiccup was that a day before the tour Kimberley Air rang to cancel and offered a tour the following day and didn't give a reason. Not wanting to miss out we hastily scrambled to rearrange another tour in order to accommodate the change. I would recommend to maybe book and allow a few days in your stay to reschedule in case this happens to you as this is a tour not to be missed. Also maybe take a light jacket or pants for the flight. I sat at the very back and didn't realise how cold it would get. Although forecast for 35 degrees that day the early morning temperatures were still quite chilly up high when we flew in even with all the vents closed. The flight back was not chilly. Maybe it was just me but just putting it out there if you are inclined o feel chilly easily.Written 13 September 2024

What a great four hours going from Cygnet Bay to Sunday Island wit Rosanna. Taking off by boat in blustery weather the trip out was a bit wet but exhilarating. On arrival at Sunday Island Rosanna was very informative of the local history and geography. Landing at the island and going for a swim was a real treat in one of the more lovely bays in the area. This is a must for all visitors to Cygnet Bay.

Rosanna’s cultural tour was excellent. She told us about her heritage, the way her people live, fish and care for land, as well as the history of Sunday Island. Showed us many old photos and took us to beautiful secluded bays among magnificent rock formations. With a swim and her excellent dampers added, it was a terrific 3 hours to explore this unique part of the world near Cygnet Bay. Her little niece, Melanie, already learning the trade, was adorable.

A beautiful day. The scenery was epic with stunning beaches, huge tidal pools, rugged Kimberley red cliffs, sharks, mangroves and we were lucky enough to see the waterfall reef because the tides are right.
Rosanna is an exuberant storyteller. She is also living history of the pearling days, the missionary days and the connections to land. She has amazing images of first contact that was deeply intertwined with her personal family history. Fascinating.
Her damper on the beach was so lovely. Best of all was the hug to my family at the end of the trip!
