- stano60200Amazing experienceIf you’re on the fence about attending this tour i can whole heartedly recommend doing it. Great way to meet people and our guide Hugo is an amazing guy, enthusiastic and very knowledgeable regarding the melbourne drinking scene. Huge SO to our unofficial guide Simon as well he would make a great addition to the team.
- Z6332BRsharonl00Must do when in MelbourneDo yourself a favour and book this tour! Hugo is the best guide and we went to some amazing bars and all had the best time! Highly recommend this tour!
- R3492SUsuej00Unique and fun experienceThe hidden bars were fabulous, the cocktails were amazing, we thoroughly enjoyed the tour and exploring Melbourne's laneways.
- 708troyp00Good Times!Laura was so good on the walking tour, we decided to take her hidden bar tour! We had a great time and met some new friends along the way I highly recommend this tour. You probably won't find these cool bars on your own
- larryhG8069LV00The must do mystery tour in MelbourneThis was the third time I have done this tour with our tour guide, Hugo and Depot Adventures All three times have been absolutely awesome !! The venues and the history of the bars we visited were explained in depth by our tour guide, who really has a passion for showing guests to a different side of Melbourne. Cant wait till my forth tour in 2024
- NorthStar5461038528200Great food and venues thanks to our terrific guide, Hugo.We loved Hugo. He went out of his way to accomodate our group of 8 couples, wanting to ensure we had a great evening exploring Melbournes hidden gems. He got the balance right between pushing us out of our comfort zone and not overdoing it. We tasted a diverse range of cuisines, with Hugo’s extensive knowledge of food and the city allowing him to elaborate on the history/ story of each venue. It was a fabulous night and we would highly recommend it to those who want to explore a different side of Melbourne. We hope to be be back to see Hugo next year!!!
- apsphase500100% recommendThis is a professionally run tour suitable for any occasion, I 100% recommend. Thanks again Hugo !
- 917grantb00Highly recommended - put this on your listThis is a must do in Melbourne. Hugo was an excellent guide and we went to some amazing places. Highly recommended - a history lesson with cocktails:)
- anneerobinson00Night bitesHigh expectations after cocktails and nibbles at the Seamstress but would have appreciated a little more to eat for the main course. Delicious desserts
- 614simonew00Highly recommend!I had a lovely tour with Thomas on Tuesday. He was very knowledgable about Melbourne and the cocktails were lovely!
- Cindy M00Perfect start to our Melbourne adventureI picked this tour after a lot of research for our first day in Melbourne. We arrived early here and I wanted something we could to power through the “jet lag”. It was perfect. It is as stated it is alot of walking but you stop at each spot for yummy drinks. Our group was eight which I to be perfect getting around. Thomas our guide was super! He gave us tidbits of history all along the way. Also gave us some other recommends of restaurants, sites and more bars. The group was a great mix, weather perfect and our guide the Best! Thank you once again Thomas for a lovely afternoon❤️😊
- LooLoo70s00Great Tour!Excellent tour. Marc was brilliant and very knowledgeable. The tour was fun and learnt something along the way. Nice way to get to know the city. Recommend.
- magairangmail00Melbourne. Best place to visit.Very great tour guide. Impressed with the laneways art's and decor and all that it had to offer. Our guide provide us with a free cup of coffee/chocolate and beer at the end at 2 of his most famous spot. He even provided a map for us to stop at some of the most unpopular of beaten attractions upon end of tour. Thank you very much for showing us around your city of Melbourne. Very reasonable for the price.
- Jeannette06600Laura rocked it!Laura was such an informative host. She was able to sprinkle in bits of if history and current events with our tour. She went above and beyond to share information and to make everyone feel welcome and included. The choice of venues was perfect and the diversity in sites was really appreciated.
- MaryGrune00Hugo is a great guideWe enjoyed the walking tour. Hugo made it special. He took us to the best hot spots in Melbourne. His talk was full of real experiences and wishes to make the very best of your visit.

This is our second visit to melbourne. And although weve wondered around the city centre, I guess until someone starts to point out and explain certain things, you haven’t really seen the city centre per say. There are lots of different tour companies around. They all seem pretty good. I would still give it 5 stars, but perhaps next time I’d opt for one of the free walking tours and pay at the end, rather than prepaying online. Just my opinion.

Although I have lived in Melbourne for 6 years and I work in the city I didn’t know much about the history of Melbourne or stories of the lane ways and buildings. We had a great afternoon with our guide Hugo who shared his knowledge with us and top tips. It was super to see the city bustling with life again after a long lockdown.
I highly recommend doing a tour - for locals and visitors alike - to appreciate our great city and support our local businesses like Depot Adventures.

Thanks for the review! Hugo's a great guide and I'm glad you got the chance to get to know him. He's been hard at work lately brewing his own beer — keep your eyes peeled for his brand, "A Local Beer."

Kevin was knowledgeable, fun and informative about Melbourne and surrounding areas. Our tour was approximately three hours and we visit Federation Square, Flinders Street station and graffiti, St Paul's Cathedral, Burke and Collins Street, RMTI gallery, City Museum of Old Treasury. We enjoyed this tour, thank you for having us.

Ideal way to get acclimated to Melbourne- we learned about the city's history, explored the architecture of several buildings, gained an understanding of the city's layout and found some cool places to take pictures, drink coffee, etc. We also learned about Ned Kelly! As this was our first visit to Melbourne, this tour was a perfect way to start our trip. Kevin was an excellent tour guide as he even shared ideas for places to see outside of the city (Phillip Island, Great Ocean Road, etc).

Hi Michael,
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a lovely review. I'm so pleased you enjoyed your tour with Walks 101, and me! I love getting to do the Complete Walking tours, as the guaranteed smaller tour groups mean I get to take time to get to know each of my guests. I'm so pleased that you found the tour as enriching as I found it enjoyable to deliver. I will always endeavour to not just champion my wonderful city but also the amazing surrounding attractions, I hope you managed to make your way to some of the suggested locations.
Perhaps we'll see you again when next you visit Melbourne!
Happy Travels!

Bridget did a nice job with the walking tour. However, we booked online for USD33 and when we arrived inMelbourne, we found that the online booking cost was AUD29, about 35% lower. Is it fair today that I feel cheated?

Hi there — thanks for coming on our tour and taking the time to leave a review. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed Bridget's tour.
Can you please email me at john@walks101.com and let me know where you saw the tour advertised for $29? The tour isn't now and has never been $29, so it might be an issue of TripAdvisor displaying the local currency. The price of the Complete Tour at the time of this writing is $49AUD, which is roughly $33USD.
I'd love to know the source of the confusion, so please do email me so I can investigate and correct. Thanks! -John

The tour provided by Walks 101 was excellent, our guide was very professional and funny on the same time. She walked us thru whole CBD and revealed a history of the city with plenty of interesting facts. I loved it! Keep up great job!

Got the details from Nomad hostel. Met at Gordon Sq. Our guide said he was from Dubai but had fallen in love with the city and was staying. His knowledge and enthusiasm showed as we twisted and turned through narrow alleys and arcades and past art and imposing architecture. Everything from high end tea shops to 19thC prison and art deco. Melbourne has it all, and this tour over 3 hours certainly whets the appetite for more exploration.

I have lived in Melbourne for 56 years, and this tour taught me many facts about my home city that I was unaware of. Great guide, very knowledgeable and a great sense of humour. Highly recommended.

Normally this would be a group activity, but due to the crazy times we are living in at the moment...... I hit the jackpot and had a private tour.
Lucky me :-)
My guide John, was fabulous..tailoring the tour to my interests on this occasion. I am an amateur photographer that also loves art, architecture, interiors and street art.
The time flew by as we wandered through the various laneways decorated by many layers of graffiti art, had a sneak peek into the bars and restaurants setting up for lunch or talked to the local business people about how their business were being affected.
A coffee at John's favourite cafe @junglejuicemelbourne to soak up the atmosphere of Centre Place then we were on our way again.
Now I may sound like a tourist, but I was bought up in a Melbourne suburb and worked my first job in Block Arcade. This for me was a walk down memory lane and a way to see one of my favourite cities in the world through a local who is passionate about the city he has chosen to call home.

Hi Lorraine, thanks so much for leaving this lovely review. In the age of COVID-19, you were indeed the last tour I gave before travel restrictions.
Keep an eye on our website though — we're working on digital experiences at the moment.
Thanks again for coming, and I hope you're staying safe out there!

We took the paid walking tour of Melbourne our giide was Beau.
He was totally informative.
We walked the city by ourselves and after the tour we realized we missed everything.
It takes about 3 hours you go down small little Alleys and see cool things.
I hope you can get the guide Beau

walking tour leaves every half hour. Starts at historic library (not sure how far from harbor). Tour is free and you can tip if desired.
Why is trip advisor quoting $85.80 for 2 people when this is advertised as a ‘free’ walking tour with a voluntary charge?

We saw the tour online. I'm sure it was advertised as a free walking tour, taking approximately 3 hours. Our guide asked for a payment based on how much we thought the tour was worth, and how well the guide conducted the tour. From memory we gave $40.

I am a little confused, I was planning on booking this walking tour and the cost is $24 per person, but on other posts it says it is a free tour, with tips at the end. I am happy to pay the fee, but which is correct?

If this is a “free” tour then how come TripAdvisor is charging me to book it? Can I not just show up and join like other free city tours?

Hi everyone - John from Walks 101 here (we run the Free Melbourne Tour).
The $3 booking fee isn't required, but guarantees your spot on the tour.
The challenge with free walking tours is that we're never sure how many will arrive. On very busy days, we occasionally need to turn folks due when we haven't scheduled enough guides.
Booking with the reservation fee helps us know that you will show up, and as a result we will ensure that you will go on the tour you booked.
You're welcome to arrive without a booking, but the $3 booking fee is the most secure way to go.
