Tale by Tale, Pint by Pint
We were lucky to be hosted by the Big Bossman Ben as he brought us on a walk down CBD across a few landmarks, such as QV market down south to Flinders. Tale by Tale, Pint by Pint we were delightfully entertained with stories of creepy/scary/ghostly history bits of Melbourne City which you wouldn't come across even if you walked every single pavement of the CBD. Thanks for the introduction to the laneway bar scene as well!

    Tom is great
Throughly enjoyed our tour with Tom- very informative, loved learning about the history of melbourne and found the backstories of certain streets and bars really intresting. The bars that were recommended were very fun with aspects of secrecy and good drinks

    Worth every cent
We did the Hidden Bars & Creepy Tales tour on the weekend and had the best time. We learned so much interesting, grisly and spooky history walking through the streets of our state’s capital, thanks to our fantastic, knowledgeable and fun guide Lenny. The three bars we visited were very funky and made THE coolest looking cocktails. Definitely considering a return to Melbourne soon for another tour from your offerings. Thanks for a fun afternoon.

    Laughs and Drinks in Melbourne
Excellent history and drinking tour of Melbourne. Have lived in Melbourne most of my life and still learnt so much and saw parts Ive never noticed before. Brilliant guided tour with Alda who made sure we all had a great time exploring the hidden laneways full of creepy stories. We also stayed hydrated in some great bars along the way. Bravo Alda!! Highly recommended..

It was ok, but we would have preferred Historical bars over their hidden bars selection..
The guide was good, the creepy tales were interesting & the historical tour stops were appropriate... but the hidden bars were disappointing. Bar #1 - Workshop: average (at least we had a decent place to sit & get to know other tour-goers). Bar #2 - Ferdydurke: the worst (they crammed us in the back of the bar & obviously weren't prepared to seat a large group. I don't know why this bar was chosen for the tour as it wasn't a big enough place, when already full of the usual patrons. Also the music was garbage & too loud to actually chat, so we all sat awkwardly drinking our drinks until it was time to leave). Bar #3 - Jack & Bones: average (decent food & drinks + available seating, but the guide bailed soon after arriving due to needing to catch a late tram home, so the tour felt like it fell flat at the end). Honestly, due to the historical nature of the rest of the tour, we would have preferred to attend historical bars instead (E.g., Oxford Scholar + Young & Jackson).

    Informative, entertaining experience.
Our tour guide, Alda, was very nice & knowledgeable about Melbourne, took us to 3 bars, Alda had lots of stories to tell us at different locations, we also loved meeting others in the tour group,

    Whiskey and Gin History tour
I was on this tour with a friend for his birthday present. The tour guide was very informative and had lots of information about the history of Melbourne distilleries. We went to 3 bars and although everyone on the tour were whiskey lovers we had more Gin than Whiskey. I was a bit disappointed as we thought we were getting a whiskey tour. If you like Gin this is definatley the tour for you.

    Not as expected
Guide very nice but tales not very creepy or interesting and took too long to get the actual reason for the story. Would have been nice to have more than a “quick drink” in each bar. First bar nice and quirky 2nd bar terrible and 3rd bar excellent.

    Interesting but not scary
Our guide Alfa was very knowledgeable and the stories she told were interesting but I had expected a more ghostly and slightly scary experience. The bars were fun especially the last one with a hidden door. But overall the description did not match what I expected.

    Fantastic experience. Interesting and entertaining
It was a cold night, but that didn't matter. We enjoyed the walk, the stories, the bars and the drinks. Although we've lived in Melbourne for many years, we got to see a side we hadn't experienced before, and that was great.

July 2023 Lenni as our guide. Was a really good night thanx guys ❤️❤️❤️
We had lenni as a guide and I must say, he is extremely enthusiastic about his job, but he actually MAKES the tour. Lenni is a wealth of knowledge, and a great tour guide. He seems to be a really good person and really excellent with people. I would indeed go on a tour like this again, but me personally I will wait for summer and I will have a whole group of friends do the tour with me... Highly recommend... A+++++ THANX LENNI AND #DRUNK HISTORY TOURS ❤️

If you are searching for history information about Melbourne, this is the right trip. The guide is knowledgeable and enthusiastic. However, I expected to spend more time in the hidden bars. From the 3 hours we have we spent less then 1 hour in a bar. Me and other participants felt rushed to finish our drink to go on to other spots in the city. 2 stars therefore for the enthusiastic guide. For the amount of money paid, I would have liked more time in the bars getting to know one another then outside the bars.

Hi there boa and thanks for your review. Sure, its always a challenge on timing, and given the we visit 3 bars in three hours, its always a challenge to get the balance right and not have people feel rushed. On average, we spend about 30 mins per bar and about 30 mins walking between bars. So on average we spend about as much time walking and learning about the city as we do inside the bars. Thanks again for taking the time to leave a review and I hope you enjoy the rest of your time in Melbourne! Cheers, Ben

So much fun! Tim did a great job of managing a walking tour on a very rain Melbourne day, the information and stories were great, even know we live in Melbourne we learned a lot!

The bars were great and it’s nice to see so much of the city that’s otherwise hidden

Definitely recommend

The tour started around 3.30 pm after some very ordinary Victorian weather.
We meet Alda outside the Transport bar and we all introduce ourselves to each other.
It was a cool breeze blowing so Alda wasn’t no time starting our Drinking and History tour.
The cocktails hit mark every time and the venues were amazing, the History and knowledge that Alda showed was brilliant and we will be back to do this again.
Highly recommend.
Alda did an amazing tour.
Well done Benno this was a brilliant idea.

Genuinely highly recommended way to enjoy an afternoon in our beautiful Melbourne. Andreas was awesome, guiding us through streets, touching on Melbourne’s drinking history and culture. A great way to learn, walk with wonderful friends, make new friends and embrace our gorgeous city, topped off with some truly delicious cocktails. Definitely recommend to locals and travelers alike, great to support locals and see Melbourne come back to life.

Lenny our guide was fantastic. His knowledge of Melbourne and the fun facts along the way made the afternoon highly enjoyable.

We loved walking down the laneways checking out the street art to discover our next bar to stop in and have a drink at.

We did this tour with a small group of 6 ppl which was a great size to be able to interact with everyone.

Everyone in our group had all lived in Melbourne there whole lives but by the end of our tour we had all learnt many new interesting facts about Melbourne.

Thanks again Lenny for a great day.

What a fabulous way to spend an afternoon. This is more than just a booze tour it gives you so much history of how Melbourne was formed and some of the unique old buildings. Alda our tour leader was so knowledgeable and she made the time go so fast. The small group size made it easy to listen, ask questions and move quickly through the town. The 3 bars chosen where unique in their own ways and the cocktails simply Devine. Cannot speak highly enough of this organisation and tour, I am definitely going to book the night tour when next in Melbourne. Grab some friends and have a fantastic time.

7 friends spent a great afternoon wandering Melbourne’s laneways with Lenny - we called into three different spots and had a lovely drink at each one.
Lenny shared plenty of stories of Melbourne’s early days and was a great host.
Great value for money - 3 hrs, drinks included and a great guide.
Highly recommend any of their tours - they would all be great.

What a great exprience. Our guide Dan was execellent and his stories and knowledge of Melbourne was interesting and fun. There were 14 of us (all friends) and I think he enjoyed our "tour" as well. The bars were all different and the snacks at the 2nd one were a bonus, providing a feed for us oldies! Overall a fantastic time and I would recommend it to anyone. Thanks for the great time.

Daniel was such a great guide, full of fun facts with a healthy sprinkling of ‘alternative facts’ as well, the sort of tales you wish were true. The bars were awesome and the cocktails divine. Really makes you appreciate what a great city Melbourne is.
