    Very knowledgeable!
Michael was super knowledgeable and really friendly. He was helpful to everyone on the tour and made sure everyone could easily find the meeting spot and make their way around the walking tour. He’s personally researched 100s of casefiles to give a really informative tour. The little booklet was a nice addition too! Highly recommend doing this with friends and grabbing a bite to eat after in the iconic Fitzroy area.

Worth doing, lots of Melbourne's interesting history to learn.
A great tour, which was over too soon. Michael was knowledgeable and enthusuastic, knew his stuff. Wished there was more of our old city left to explore, but that's progress

    True value for money.
Michael has done his research well and it is hard not to catch his enthusiasm. I was disappointed to find we did not visit any lolly shops. No spoiler here - you need to attend the tour to find out why 🤪 Our small group of 7 made it easy for us to find time to ask questions. The booklet we each received was a great souvenir come keepsake. Highly recommend.

    True Crime Walkabout
This was a great tour, the 3 hours went so quickly and we didnt really have to walk very far. Michaels knowledge of the area and the crimes that were happening is great, lots of laughs and some very funny statements that were read out. I would recommend this to anyone who has an interest in Melbourne crime.

A must do for visitors and Melbournians alike!
A socio-cultural-deep-dive into the origins of the Chinese community and criminal underworld of Chinatown in the heart of Melbourne’s cbd. Michael takes you on a captivating journey of the mind as you step back in time walking Little Bourke Street and its many laneways and back-alleys, while viewing its many original original buildings (and finding out what happened inside), as you listen to the true (and sometimes tall) tales of iconic Chinese criminal figures and warring factions, corrupt and drunken constabulary, and the generally seedy underbelly of the area in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Michael’s remarkably well-researched historical knowledge, the intriguing, sometimes dark and often hilarious stories, and all the other juicy details of Chinatown’s past are laid bare. A must do for visitors and Melbournians alike!

Exploring Melbourne's Shadowy Past: Crime, Gangsters & Lolly Shops
We had an incredible time on this walking tour with Michael. Meeting at the corner of Copper Inn, our small group of four was perfect for an intimate exploration of Melbourne's colorful past. Michael's storytelling brought to life the intriguing history of the Red Light District in the earlier days of Melbourne. His knowledge and passion for the city's history made the tour both informative and engaging. I highly recommend this tour to other visitors in Melbourne who are looking to uncover the city's lesser-known, yet fascinating, stories. Don't miss out on this unique experience!

Michael brought to life stories from the early 1900s with such depth of knowledge, I could really picture the events. The stories were fascinating and I’ve learnt so much about that period of Melbourne’s history in 2 hours.

Our tour was with a small group of about 7 in total. My partner and I will definitely go on the other tours in the CBD next time we’re in Melbourne!

Michael gave us a fascinating insight into the activities of the Melbourne criminal underworld in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The tour was taken at a gentle pace and we stopped at several points of interest in Fitzroy along the way where we were regaled with some amazing true stories of some great criminal characters from the past. We loved it and would highly recommend to anyone who fancies a different take on Melbourne history. The stories would definitely rival anything you may have seen on ‘Peaky Blinders’.

This is a great neighborhood walk to take if you have some extra time in Melbourne. The guide is a scholar who has done the work to put together an informative, fun, and exciting program centering on a few blocks with a wild history of sculduggery. Houses and building you might walk past every day have a story to tell and a history to bring to life. Highly recommended.

Thoroughly recommend this to anyone with an interest in history or who just loves good true stories. We’re planning to do his other tour in the coming weeks and looking forward to it

The tour operator asked me to cancel this tour, which I had planned to do, and booked for more than 8 months, and which I was really looking forward to.

Instead of refunding the whole booking price, the company only paid me 97% of it, plus they got interest from the bank for 8 months), thereby enriching themselves, despite of the fact that no service was rendered! What a ripp-off!!

Avoid at all cost, esp. as there are far more interesting and professional walking tours offered in Melbourne!

Sorry Sylvio, But you asked me to break the law by turning a blind eye to the fact that you’d been directed to self-isolate because of the Coronavirus pandemic. I couldn’t break the law or put tour attendees in potential danger. On top of this, you didn’t buy the ticket through Melbourne Historical Crime Tours, you bought it through one of the 4 companies that on-sell my tickets. They hold onto the fee until the month after you attend a tour, so I’ve never been in possession of your money. I know you must be disappointed that you had been told to self-isolate because of Coronavirus but, really, what answer could I give when I received this email from you? “Dear Sir or Madam, I have booked with you a tour in mid April. Having read about Australia's new 'self-isolation' procedure, I would like to know, whether you will give me any 'grief' when arriving for the tour in mid April, i.e. within the 14-day 'self isolation' time. Best regards, (full name deleted)” This is the only review that I’ve received under 4 stars. I pride myself in giving customers the best experience that I can give. You are welcome to come along on one of my tours after you have completed your mandatory self-isolation. I understand how upset you are, it must feel like your holiday has been ruined by the pandemic. All the best and hopefully see you on a tour down the track, Michael

Michael has done his homework! His knowledge of the history of the area shone as we explored the area. He had a lot of stories to share and it was very interesting, the booklet that came with the tour was a nice complement and helped us keep track of the many characters. We will be signing up for his other tours!

Great tour - Michael is very knowledgeable - it gives a very good sense of life at the time, and a slice of Melbourne's history of which I wasn't aware. Well worth it. Great eateries around the walk so easy to do before/after a meal / drink.

A fascinating foray into the underworld of early Fitzroy. Take a journey back in time when the streets of Fitzroy were teeming with the most dangerous and ruthless criminals ever known. Michaels well researched and passionately presented narrative kept me enthralled through the entire tour. There actually wasn’t a lot of walking as there was so much history in just a few blocks. I’m sure there are many more stories to tell and I hope Michael will do more tours in the future.

It was wonderful to discover things about the old houses, laneways and colourful identities of Fitzroy's past. We thought we knew the area a bit, but Michael's thourough and informative commentary opened our eyes to what the area used to be like. A most enjoyable afternoon.

This tour tells of a world straight from a Hollywood movie, but actually in Melbourne, and all true and based on a massive research odyssey by a brilliant storyteller. Michael kept us spellbound even on a cold and damp Melbourne day. The amount of fascinating detail and at times very funny anecdotes Michael related to us were superb, and his passion for his research and storytelling is absolutely amazing. 5 stars out of 5..... no hesitation....This is an experience you simply cannot miss !!
